I paid $300 for mine, but it came with two barrels, 18.5" and 28". I use it as an extra shotgun when friends are up and we're skeet shooting. Regardless of price, this is a solid, reliable, versatile gun.
You will definitely enjoy it. Money well spent. I figured out that if you shoot slugs with it a full bead will print high, bead just barely visible over the receiver will hit point of aim. At least on mine.
Nice video Rick . It’s so good good to see you making another video ! Take care of yourself bud. May the Lord Bless you and your family with great health and safety !!
I don't know how I missed this video. I'm glad I'm watching this storm roll in and caught it. Nice shooting as always! I don't think there's anything you can't shoot well. The Maverick 88 is on outstanding value in a shotgun! I have a buddy that's had one for over 40 years. He had to replace an ejector about 5 or 6 years ago. The only thing that's ever worn out on it.
Thanks for watching Brother. I've always liked the looks of these, just had to have one. I believe this weather is gonna get a little rough. Be careful my friend and stay warm. 👍
What’s appealing to me is the fact it’s a Mossberg. Mossberg would literally make a turd worth buying. It’s a company I’ve trusted since day 1 of the shotgun world. I bought the Maverick 88 security model where the lengths are the same (over, under - barrel and tube). I bought this shotgun brand new WITH shells for $280 at a local quality gun shop. Mossberg Maverick is the only shotgun I would ever trust and feel good about if I HAD to pull $200 out for a gun. With foreign firearms flooding the market today, Mavericks seem to be getting pushed over to the side, but I’d dig through a 5 foot pile of Turkish shotguns just to find a beat up rusty Mossberg any day. I’m a big fan of the 570, 500 and 88, 100%. American branded shotgun, cheap but made to run like a cheetah, and the other reason I enjoy it is because of the dual bar ride mechanism on the pump assembly. I have owned several shotguns that only had one single bar that rides when pumping the shotgun and they felt absolutely terrible, wobbly, and just didn’t feel stable. Generally, Mossbergs have dual rides and it makes the pumping feel sturdy, straight, and comfortable. It’s one of those only shotguns that looks great with 0 accessories. And not mention the famous “racking” sound that we all love that Mossbergs make. Haven’t been able to replicate the sound elsewhere.
Thanks for watching my video and for the awesome reply. I'm also a serious fan of Mossberg shotguns, everything on them including the edjector can be changed or repaired at home with minimal tools and parts interchangeability between models make them a shotgun that is easy to keep running and you can bet your life on their reliability. 👍
I picked up one today from Academy. Just a little over $200.00s (238.00's out the door) mine is the 7 plus 1 version (dark earth color) I plan on taking it out to the range this weekend for the first time. I've owned one of these before. And thier Really nice guns.
Thanks for watching Brother, you will love the shotgun, on mine I figured out I need to take a fine bead , just barely visible over the reciever will center the pattern. Hope you have fun at the range.
Yep, I agree that is one good shotgun and the one I bought my son a few years back and also bought him a field barrel too....Have fun with it and nice addition....Good stuff....
Love my Maverick. Going to be reloading the minis. There's a couple of good videos on how to do that here. Way cheaper than buying factory shorty shells. They are fun to shoot and 9 in the mag tube and one in the pipe is sweet in an 18.5" shotty.
You know Rick, I forgot about the Opsol Mini Clip and it is Texas Made. I think I need to snag a Maverick or Shockwave in 12g. I have always preferred 20g because I can carry more ammo, those mini-shells kinda change that advantage.
I have a Rem 870 and Stevens 320 12ga but dont have a mossberg! I need to get me one of those to round out my pump action collection! :D have a good one!

I haven't been looking hard, but haven't seen as many Mossberg shotguns in stock anywhere. I see a lot of cheap junker imports all over. I wouldn't mind picking up a 500. I messed up a few yrs ago and saw a real nice Win 1300 defense model in a shop. I should of snagged it. Unfortunately that shop closed and owner moved out of state. It was my favorite shop around.
Thanks for watching, on the but stock it was already drilled for a standard rear sling stud, the magazine cap was drilled and tapped from the factory. I ordered one of those Mossberg 500 sling mount kits, it came with a new magazine cap, but I only ended up needing the threaded stud.
Yes Sir. And the beauty of it is that parts are everywhere and you can change anything out on it with simple tools. No gunsmith required like other brands. Thanks for watching my video brother.
Thanks for watching, yes it could work if you're close enough, but best bet would probably be to put a field barrel with an extra full choke on it. I got the 6 shot version because I plan to aquire a rifled slug barrel and a field barrel down the road.
Not sure sir, mine didn't come with one. But if your 88 came with a barrel that accepts choke tubes it's probably a choke tube wrench. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching, this is just a cheap surplus nylon sling I bought years ago from a company called Southern Ohio Gun. I don't think they are in business anymore though sadly. I bought some good stuff from them when I had my C&R license.
Awesome, the receiver won't rust, just the magazine tube and barrel. Keeping it clean and wiped down with oil would work, or a rattle can paint job. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching Brother, I got lucky and found these shells at Academy Sports. This is the lightest recoil I've ever felt on a 12 gauge shotgun. Very pleasant to shoot.
Why do you position the camera so that all we see is your back while you're test-firing? It would be helpful to be able to see the pump-action cycling and see how cleanly it ejects empties.
A lot of that actually has to do with the direction of the sun at the time of filming and what I don't want on camera. I apologize for that. Thanks for watching anyway.
I've seen them set up like that, and they look cool. I added a tactiload stock to mine that holds 5 extra shells, but to be honest, it adds weight, and the shotgun doesn't feel as nimble. Thanks for watching my video. 👍

Great shotgun. Very poor customer service from Mossberg. They tell me the reason I cannot buy a 18.5 inch barrel is because of Covid. They have been making this claim for three years.

Man, you got a great deal 👍, I've been thinking about getting a Mossberg 500 deer and field combo to go with this Maveric 88.
I got M88 combo as well. Had to hunt for it for few months. Had no chance to shoot it yet. Got minishell adapter too.
Ditto!
Good to see ya Brother a classic for sure nothing like old school

TFB TV has several cheap shotgun 500 round burn down videos and the Maverick 88 ran flawless while the Turkish shotguns crapped out .

Looks like a nice gun, sometimes the cheap ones are the best ones because your not afraid to get them scratched up
Thanks for watching Dusty Buddy. I've looked at these for years, always wanted one. Good little shotguns.
Out of the cheap ones, these are actually a grade of quality you can depend on. most of these cheapo imports, I would never trust my life with.
Valid point unless they’re Turkish made.
I agree, lots of problems with the Turkish shotguns. The Maveric 88 is a winner because most Mossberg 500 parts fit it. Thanks for watching.

May be a dumb question but what is the little steel plate that came with my 88? It’s shrink wrapped and says “ultimate-mag” on it. Thanks.
