👍 I watch all of you videos till the end and can't wait till the next video. Keep them coming. Your literally the only person I consistently watch every time
Thanks Josh for traveling back and forth on your dime. Thanks to Mark and Ryan for having strong industry connections and access to the good stuff. Great educational vid
I have built an airplane, rebuilt engines, do almost all of my own mechanical work...transmissions have always been a giant 'black hole' for me. This has to be one of my favorite videos just to see the inner workings of an Allison transmission.
Fantastic content!! Thank you Josh, and Mark for taking the time to make this video! Mark, you are the “professor” and a stellar guy for giving credit to Dave and the Goerend family who are truly pioneers in the performance transmission world. Good collaborations are how the best parts have been engineered and developed over the years in the racing world!
I will vouche for the quality builds by GoeRend. They did a "mild " rebuild on my LBZ twelve year's ago. Zero issues and you can hardly feel the shifts. Mark your a stand up guy for giving credit where credit is due. Great content!
Josh, thanks for bringing this kind of content to the channel. I think it’s awesome that you are able to bring these experts in to discuss issues. Somebody always has a transmission, turbo, rear end, electrical, suspension problem. Half the battle is finding somebody credible and reputable enough to speak with. To me, and probably many others, that content is golden 🙌. Any time you can bring in the experts… that is the people who design it, use it, and work on it,… and discuss the pros and cons….is huge. Nice work.
"wasnt like a total tear down". But trans was torn down completely. Modest approach and its greatly respected. You can tell the pride and confidence this gentleman has towards his work.
Even though I'm all the way down in Tennessee, after watching this guy tear down a transfer case a couple years back on UA-cam, I knew he was the real deal, so I sent Kodiak my front differential and it's still running perfectly, it's probably the most valuable part on my 03 lb7 now lol. It was an easy process and in the end, was cheaper than the local dealership wanted and I know it was done right! Thanks again guys
Great video guys. Alto G3’s are a no go in C2 in high horsepower applications. 7 GPZ and factory steels will take season after season of drag racing at 1300hp + HP
I want to see a comparison of parts between the 6 speed Allison and the 10 speed Allison. Specifically the size of the shafts the steels and clutches and the pumps . I’d like to know how the 10 speed measures up to a true Allison. I’ve been searching for an in depth tear down it from a seasoned professional.
Love all the material on watching things put together from the bottom up. Can’t wait till you put the wife max. It would be cool if you can show the build on the motor. It would be awesome to have a how to video on how to rebuild a Duramax for a DIY guy. I’m new to the duramax world just bought an LBZ grandpa truck with only 55k miles on it and love it. I enjoy all your videos on how to work on them. My Grandpa was a mechanic so he taught me how to turn wrenches and I always loved helping him rebuild motors and watching him rebuild transmissions.
Great video! Back in 2021 I broke my p2 planet into 2 pieces and to this day I still enjoy learning about these Allison’s. Can’t wait to see this truck together!
Honestly josh mark an Ryan it’s hard not to watch it until the end, with all the knowledge from start to finish another awesome job everyone nicely done.
I'm thinking of buying my dad's 2006 Chevy LBZ dually with under 100k miles and getting the trans built, along with a new turbo and tuning, so seeing how far you can go in building up the Allison is awesome, but I'll never go that far. I had a 2006 and it was flawless with 190k except for the transfer case pump rub. On a side note, you and a professional golfer named Wesley Bryan are doppelgangers.
My coworker and I purchased built Allison 1000's. His is a stock LBZ, i have a LB7 with 30 over injectors, studded, Hsp piping, 5 inch exhaust, airdog 165 sump fed, EFI Live dsp5, my trans is built for up to 500+ hp overstock. He purchased a transmission that's built for 1000+hp overstock. His transmission runs 230°F-245°F, my transmission runs 175°F-190°F. Seems strange.
@@MrStaybrown Awesome, I’m sure yours needs it a lot more than his since it’s stock anyway lol. I’m in the process of putting a PPE cooler and lines on mine while I’m doing the radiator. Hopefully it helps prolong the life of the Allison until I’m ready to get it built
She purdy! Mark is an Allison Trans surgeon! Didn’t recognize Ryan without his hat😂. Mark is owner operator, gotta operate to own, love his attention to detail! Wifemax gonna be a mean one for sure. Looking forward to the Beard’s pulling content.
I re-did new transmission, transfer, driveline on my lbz. Got transfer case from kodiak, tried to get built trans from same kodiak/Ryan's with no help. I'm glad you were able to get the help.
That was a great video! Extremely important for the guys that are pushing everything to the limit. But what about an Allison 1000 behind an 8.1 liter let's maybe only going to make see slightly over 500 horsepower what is the best option for that besides 6 speed conversion to keep it safe strong and reliable without worrying about limp mode. Between all you guys and the amazing amount of knowledge what do you recommend
I have a suggestion on the hard clutches, could the inner clutch drum surfaces be hardened like Hard anodizing? Or you could roll a steel strip through a roller crimper as a liner for the contact area of the clutch fingers.
not too far from me in dubuque. have had some people take their trucks up there. great service and super good with getting back to customers etc. we all know how hard the phone game can be when were busy all the time.
I'm going through my truck one part at a time, as money and time allows. Just got their transfer case installed. Transmission is next. Then into the engine and tunes. Trying to get all the supporting equipment ready before giving it the beans. I'm in eastern Colorado and wondering who the go-to guy around me would be for an engine
Absolutely fantastic.... Hat's off to Mark and the folks at Kodiak and Ryan and the guys at RDS. Extremely talented and professional and I think what else that's important. Is that Mark is a devout man of faith. With today's world and times it important not to hide that light. So just another plus in his and your favor. To listen to him and watch is a lesson well worth every minute. I am curious about two things.... one is a Trans oil cooler... what recommendations if any does he suggest ? Also and secondly... back when I was young [long ago]..[long long ago lol]... on manual transmissions which most of us ran we changed the bell housing to a scatter shield in case the clutch blew. On auto transmissions we used a blanket. Since you are planning to run this . Are you going to use a blanket or is that something of the past. Another great episode. Mark said it right don't rush the build. Do it right. As always looking forward to seeing what's next. 😎 👍 Watched every second of it.
Watched every second! I need a new turbo, like a 64mm from R.D.S. attention to detail is why an R.D.S. Turbo! and now after watching Mark build your trans, Mark is at the top of My list to rebuild my 6-speed Allison. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻.
3 parts heading my way. Over $4,000 for all 3. Because I want to play harder. Lol I'm not sure if I have a cracked flex plate but I'm replacing the torque converter. So I have a suncoast flywheel/flex plate heading my way also.
Great video Josh, watched it to the end. Any ideas for my 06' LBZ. Only 54k miles on it running Dtuner, hsp full bundle kit, 4" straight exhaust, complete kryptonite suspension, solid straight drive shaft. Just wondering what I could do to the transmission to make this truck completely bulletproof 🤔
