The symptoms suggested a problem with the boost pressure control valve. I replaced that and it made no difference. I cleaned the MAF and checked for vacuum leaks, still no improvement. The EGR valve was stuck fast. I used EGR cleaner from behind and no difference to the problem. I managed to get the EGR valve out by using a small hammer and tapping a scissor blade in behind the gasket and slowly working it around. With patience, it started to edge away and eventually came out after about 15 minutes of fettling. The EGR was very dirty but the valve itself seemed to open and close fine. I gave it a really good clean not expecting much as the valve seemed to be shutting ok. Obviously it wasn’t closing fully and a small amount of exhaust gas was getting through. This clearly messed up the fuel air mixture at low revs. I was amazed at the difference when I refitted the EGR. Still a bit sluggish below 1750rpm but still pulls fine. Before cleaning the EGR, the engine was completely gutless below 2500rpm and would completely bog down below 2000rpm. I have ordered a new MAF as the old one is pretty grubby. Hopefully that will give even more improvement. I have used Wynns Turbo cleaner. That helped turbo response and has stopped a bit of noise at high revs. I also used Wynns EGR cleaner to clean the system up a bit. It didn’t clean the EGR much while it was still fitted and didn’t do a great job of cleaning the residue when I had removed the EGR for cleaning. A strong detergent was far better. I will provide an update once I fit the new MAF.

just had a Trafic (1.9dci)in with power loss problems , basically it was a vacuum problem No vacuum to turbo control valve . this van had only one small vacuum pipe off pump and there was no vacuum there . taking the plastic fitting off the pump it was apparent the unit was blocked . i simply drilled a hole through using a small drill (1-1.5mm) and the vacuum was restored . Even low vacuum on this pipe will affect turbo . a cheap check if anyone is having similar problems
Thanks for adding this. I checked for a vacuum leak and replaced the boost pressure solenoid before cleaning the EGR and replacing the MAF. It can be frustrating to figure out what the cause is.
@@jarpar3414 if it is the same take the plastic fitting off the vacuum pump and you will have the big outlet for the brake servo . Just below there is a small outlet with the control valve pipe attached to it .
