My young Facebook friend whose name is Piet Arion from Austria who never had a singing lesson in his life, works at a low paying job unrelated to music and sings as a hobby ( making tribute studio recordings of his favorite vocalists) loves Morissette and when he saved a few extra $$ walked into the recording studio and performed a tribute song for Morissette, her original song called “ akin Ka Na Lang” . Piet’s native language is German and second is English but he has a Philippine friend who spent weeks teaching Piet the Tagalog language and when satisfied Piet sang “ akin Ka Na Lang.” and posted it several months ago on UA-cam expecting a few hundred responses. But from the moment he posted it on you tube , it EXPLODED!!! It now has over 22,000 LIKES and over 4,000 Comments and 99% of the comments are WOW! OMG! BEYOND AMAZING! “ INCREDIBLE! BEST VERSION EVER MALE OR FEMALE!!! ( equal to Morissette’s) .
He nails both Whistle notes with as much or more vibrato than Mosissette.
By the way, a few people who watched this incredible performance thought he was lip syncing -especially the whistle notes. So to prove them wrong, he performed version 2 and introduces the song from his apartment with a whistle note not from the recording studio. To quell his detractors. Piet will one day become as famous as Dimash-as soon as he starts entering vocal contests like the Voice UK or US which he will win by the largest margin in the history of these shows.

John Reiland Katrina does do a great cover of this song. But it’s her version. Not saying it better or worse. But I prefer the way Morissette performs the different variations of this song. Especially, when Morissette uses her whistle. Others have done whistles when covering this song but it’s not the same.
@@johnreiland216 Kat's version is higher but definitely not better. I mean Mori's tone suites the song better, her emotions and storytelling. Kat is a good technical singer also, i would like to hear her sing this song in the studio.

Hi Coach, Morrissette's breath management is also very very outstanding as she sang a (+-) 15 second phrase riff around A5 during her high pitch chest/mix belt at the latter part of the song...
You are on point when you didn't understand the lyrics but got it right - yes the song is about praying and longing for somebody, it is a romantic song. Im glad you got that because it also shows that the melody of the song is proper to the lyrics and you can actually feel it :) Thanks for reacting! :)

There are english subtitles in this song of which the translation is decent. Google translate often is horrible.
Do turn it on when you listen to it again. You will understand the words then.
If you want a change up, try a collab with her in A Whole New World or You are the Reason. There is a reason why she gets millions of views and call her Asia’s Phoenix. In addition, she is the first Hall of Famer of that Wish Bus and sang that song as her finale. It means “Just be mine”.

The title means Please Be Mine , you should have turned on the close captions for the lyrics in english.

Her Wistle us connected to the verse that's why it's unpredictable. Other "popular" artist is somewhat disconnected and they need to take extra breath to pull it. And Mori is doing "Controlled Whistle".

I totally agree with your explanation of the whistle tone. Over time if used frequently. Deteriorates the quality of your singing voice as you get older. As per your example. Mariah Carey. In my opinion there is one singer who still keeps her beautiful voice. And that is Celine Dion.

It is a song of unrequited love, with hope. Kind of like letting the air out of a balloon then pinching it down to make it squeak. Did you notice that last long phrase where she did it in one breath? It was about 15-16 seconds of continuous singing. She has done other songs where she goes even longer. I do not have an objective opinion about Morissette's ability, to me she is the best Pop and Ballad singer going these days. Maybe it is because I like her heart. She sings like a Diva without the attitude. She is confident without being smug. I have listened to a lot of singers in my 68 years on this planet, and there aren't very many that I would choose over her. She gives each song it's due by singing her best. Plus she is drop-dead gorgeous, but then you would probably know about that.
I have a request, that you take a look at a 12 year old Welsh girl, Gracie Jayne Fitzgerald. She was on The Voice Kids UK. There is a compilation video it is about 17+ minutes long, it includes performances and some coaches comments. One of the coaches is Jessie J and she had some good things to say. Gracie Jayne's coach was Pixie Lott. I had my apprehensions about her as a coach. By the end though I knew she was the right choice. Near the end of the song "Many Rivers To Cross" Gracie Jayne does something she didn't know she could do. But the real highlight is her touch when singing that song. You don't even have to post it just watch for fun, you won't be disappointed. Well I think I have said enough, don't you? Until the next time.

Yes! Very very wonderful. That's why I watched some of her music videos and so on.😊 To give you a trivia of what does the song means, "Akin ka nalang" means Please Be Mine. It shows that a boy or girl fell in loved with someone but he or she is hoping that his/her love one will love him/her back.

Great reaction,very informative. Morissette is indeed a fantastic vocalist,there are so many in the Philippines!! May I suggest that you check out a singer from s.korea called So Hyang. She is regarded as the queen of asia when it comes to vocals(Dimash is seen as the king). She does the arrangements of the songs she performs,which is obviously more noticeable when she's singing a cover of a well known song. She is known for her high mix & you can often find her belting in bb5 & doin riffs & runs while she's up there.she has wonderful transitions. She often makes me cry,even when she's singing in korean & I haven't got the faintest idea what she's singing about which I think is the sign of a great vocalist when they can still move you without understanding the lyrics(as with morissette on this video) . I suggest either her cover of 'bridge over troubled water' or the more traditional 'arirang alone', to ease you in gently, both from a show called 'immortal songs 2'. I'm sure that as you obviously have great knowledge when it comes to music/singing that you will appreciate her talent

You Are The Reason Morissette and Daryl Ong, Wish 107.5 Music Awards Morissette Marcelito Pomoy Secret Love Song and Morissette Darren Espanto A Whole New World. Disney asked Darren and Morissette to record the Aladdin soundtrack for the new Philippines version. So you will notice, Morissette always matches her hair color to the man she sings with, especially when she has red hair just like Daryl. As women, we know the dedication it takes to do that kind of thing as she doesn't use hair clips or a wig.
