  • In this Photoshop tutorial I will show you how to make comic style 3D Superhero Text using Photoshop's 3D capabilities.
You can also use the resulting psd file as a template to easily modify the 3D text using different fonts, sizes, colors, and tracking etc., as well as simple changes you can make to the text warp.
I needed a heading for a Map Art tutorial I am making for Metropolis Illinois using a comic art style. I thought 3D Text in the style of Superman text would be a good idea.

This tutorial was made using Photoshop CC 2018, I have not tested it on earlier version, however, I beleive that it should work with most versions of Photoshop that can render 3D text.

Some reason when I get to 5:08 it won't do it for me when I hit ok for the stroke

I kept practicing & it kinda worked. 2 things though. As I do it in 3D the lines lose smoothness & I don't have the fx icon for stroking. I can edit & stroke but it wont do the individual letters. Any suggestions?

Not sure what the problem is. At about 5:12 in the video "Right Click and choose the blending Option" . Did you do that? It seems like a useless step, but I had to do that at times for the stroke to take.
Then when you choose the blending options, Does Stroke have a check mark. If not check it, If it has one, turn if off and back on, Then ok and continue. At last resort, you can save your work up to that point, then close and re-open the project. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting.

@@MagicalFruitTuts Thanks, I'll try it again. But I did a fix for the one I did. Made a copy, put it in, duplicated it, erased the crooked outlines of the letters, then stroked it. It covered the crooked edges in the copy under it. I sometimes have trouble with tutorials. Sometimes it doesn't do what's being done in the tutorial. I have mine on a Apple mac. The Catalina OS killed my Photoshop so I hadda use time machine & go back to where I was. I think maybe these newer operating systems effects my Photoshop's functions.

It doesn't let me select the first letter. It acts like I wanna type more.
