I had never seen one of those tools up until now and that is pretty slick... Although you're going to rob new builders the chance to cuss obscenities as their detent pin and spring go flying across the room to be lost forever behind the workbench somewhere. 😁😁😁
Just go to home depot, buy a clevis pin for $1, has holes in it and is the same size as AR pin, and perfect length, and use any punch to push detent in. I have used the same one for over 10 years now
Great videos,, one thing though when installing something remember to do it in front of the camera, sometimes you get out of sight and that ruins the video.
Once you use a pivot pin installation tool you will never do it without one again. Unless of course you like searching the floor of your shop while cussing.
I have a pivot pin that is stuck. It’s new and never had an upset installed onto it. The pivot pin was installed correctly but now it won’t budge. I’ve tried hitting it with a tool. I’ve tried prying it with a thin flat head screw driver but nothing works. Any suggestions ?
Had to replace one yesterday for the firs time no tools. Intently lost my pin somewhere in this universe. I think that there is a design issue with the from pivot pin spring pin assembly, spring would be shorter and pin should just stick out half way out, it would still work just wouldn't be 30 min job to install and no tools.
The camera view was crap in this video! (Sorry but it was!) So, your tool is professional looking, but seemed difficult to use. I have the tool made by Real Avid, and it is easier to use. Same but different! Just easier.
Can’t find that particular tool on brownells ... i have the real Avid but i like the all metal construction and knurling. Do you remember the manufacturer?
ok how many detent pins have you launched into realms unknown never to be found again, i now do this operation in a big ziplock bag to prevent them being swallowed by the carpet monster
You could just push the detent down into the hole with the tip of your finger, hold it like that then at the same time push down and in with the pivot pin using your other hand. Make sure the pin blocks it from launching as you put it in and rotate until the detent seats into the channel. It could still shoot out even if you use a clevis pin if there's not enough pressure acting on the detent as you slide it out.
I missed those FN lowers last week for sale. One marked, other not. But I did get a used FN upper from Thoroughbred Arm. a few days ago. Hasn't shipped yet tho.

Launching some detents into space is a rite of passage.
My first time doing one, my kit had one extra spring and detent. I lost both sets.

Save money, buy a universal clevis pin from home depot, harbor freight or ace!

What if I put the detent first before the spring and got it stuck. I’m having a hard time removing the detent.
Your camera work was NOT good on this vid. Next time it would be nice to actually see what your doing.
Instead of trying to compress the spring just line the hole up drop spring and detent pin in and then compress detent pin and spring and rotate.
Just picked up a Forward Controls gas block pin tool. They have their shit together. Quality parts and good customer service.
Use the right tool for the job otherwise have an Oops kit on standby...😄
Can you give the Brownells SKU number for the pivot pin. Thanks!

Real Avid makes a similar tool for this install, works great
Zero reason for a tool when you can do it without in less than 15 seconds.

You really got to question Stoners motivation in not useing a nut and bolt.
Thanks for the help, I used a hex key around the same size, and it worked. 🙏🏿

I unfortunately do not recall. Brownells has the Wheeler tool which is about the same.
Followed you step by step very easy thank you
Nice tool, but I personally like Real Avid's pivot pin tool (found on Ebay) much better. Easier to use as well.
The real avid won't work on an AR9 - with a 9mm mag well instead of a 223 mag well.
glad to see you're uploading again. Why did you start doing it again from being gone for so long?
I moved a few times and we are now settled down. I was able to build my bench again and start working on pew pews.
@@nsz85 glad you're back. You were always one of my favorite channels.

I need to upload the best way to install the front pivot pin without tools....it takes about 15 seconds too.
Awesome! I can't wait to see it!
@@nsz85 give me a bit and let me grab a lower to disassemble.

That is seriously an excellent way to do it! Today I learned!
