Mama Doctor Jones I wonder if she has a prolactinoma!? I’d be shocked if they didn’t check prolactin levels in bloodwork but from someone who has this condition it sounds like a possibility!? I never had a period but randomly did once as a late teenager! Years past and once my condition was diagnosed things changed for me with treatment. Before treatment I did get a random period just once, so it crossed my mind for this women!
@@marthahawkinson-michau9611 oh yeah there are a couple of documented cases of it occurring and probably many more unknown cases. It’s the same as when a woman becomes pregnant with fraternal twins by one man - her body releases multiple eggs within the same time frame and both become fertilized but in this case by two different men. It would mean she would have to have sex with 2 different men within I believe a week (and in if it was brothers that would be so awkward.

My sister and I had our babies within 16 hours of each other. Ended up with different birthdays tho. But my parents drove from my sister’s hospital straight to mine because we delivered in cities with 5 hours travel straight between. My mom was never so happy to spend 11 hours in a car with my dad in one day 🤣.
Doctor Jones, could you make a video talking about how it's okay to talk about periods with your sons? My MIL is a little nuts, and she thinks I shouldn't talk to my two boys about periods because it's "women's business." I told her that I've already spoken to them about it, and she basically thinks I'm a horrible person. It was on a kid level, nothing gross or inappropriate, but I think we should teach our sons about stuff like this because it's absolutely normal.
Not a professional but as a woman who dated men PLEASE TALK TO YOUR SONS. I had an ex boyfriend refuse to check out with me at the grocery store once because I was buying tampons. Husband is amazing about natural biology and I’m so thankful that his mom mentioned it when he was younger. We are going through some pretty heavy infertility stuff currently and the fact that he has always been comfortable with the subject matter as made my entire experience better.
You are a good mom. My BF's mom was very open about her periods with him and he is honestly the most supportive and understanding partner when it comes to mensuration (everything else too). I had been taught it was "women's business" - though my dad had absolutely no issue getting me anything I needed for my period - and am absolutely mortified to bring it up. My BF's assurance and support has made me more open about what I am going through and it has added a beautiful level of intimacy to our relationship.
Over here giving you a high five for doing that! ✋Honestly, it's more weird to keep boys/men in the dark, imho. Keeping it a mystery just leads to misogynistic attitudes, especially if they're only hearing about it from guys because the women in their lives act like it's taboo too.

“We should have a poker face.” My OB is amazing. My water broke and I made it to 3 1/2 centimeters before I stopped dilating. He came in and checked me and told me that if I didn’t start dilating within the next 30 minutes he was going to recommend a C-Section. I had high blood pressure throughout my pregnancy. Never once did he let on something may have been wrong. I agreed and he left the room. Not even 10 minutes later nurses walk in telling me they’re prepping the OR and I’m having a C-Section. My husband starts calling my Daddy and my cousin as they wheel me into the OR. They still never let on anything was wrong. My OB was calm the entire time. The only indication we got that something wasn’t right was after they got my daughter out he goes “Oh it was the cord. That was what the problem was.” After I was stable and stitched and stapled up, he then explained that her cord was blocking my cervix and that when I had the last contraction right after he walked out of my room my blood pressure shot up to 220/110 and her heart stopped. It’s been 5 years and when we found out I was pregnant again I didn’t even have to think of who my Dr would be.
the end makes me happy for you, but i feel like doctors hiding things from mothers may not be the best case.. hopefully if you had resisted his seemingly autocratic declaration of what you were GOING to do, he would have just as calmly explained himself so you could make an informed decision or at least prepare yourself.

That's a well experienced doctor who was looking out for everyones best interest. That's very rare. I haven't had any children yet, but finding an OB/Gyn for pregnancy in the future gives me anxiety because I've come across so many doctors that didn't give me the care I needed for my endometriosis.
I've always had my period but it just mysteriously stopped 7 years ago after having my daughter. But just last month I found out I am pregnant and am on my 6 month going on 7 in a week. Truly a miracle. Baby boy on the way 💙
My 1st kid I had never had cramps. Never could understand girls in school then later at work that always complained. Thought they were trying to get a free day or 2 off. Then after my 2nd kid, oh gosh I knew what cramps were!! Had them very bad for a few years. My mom said she never had cramps and I was the only kid so never seen someone in my household have cramps.
@@mermaidismyname it's probably a good idea to go to the doctor about that, you might have endometriosis or PCOS, or you could be having some issues with your digestive system
Wow, to those people who never had cramps before labour...mine cramps were so bad, after my first was born, I can recall thinking, " I'd rather give birth again, than have a regular period."
I had a friend who stopped getting her period for a year at age 28, and when she went to her doctor about it, he just said "that's normal" and shrugged her off. She told me about it, because she was so concerned and I insisted she get a second opinion because it sounded like PCOS to me. She went to a woman doctor and sure enough, she has PCOS. But it's sadly not uncommon for doctors to dismiss women's reproductive health as just "hmm must be ghosts in your blood!"
My mum got pregnant at 44 with my youngest sister. She went to the doctor (male) because she was having stomach pains and he told her she was obese & going through menopause. Later that year, when my sister was 30 weeks, a female doctor took blood tests/ultrasounds etc and found out she was pregnant.
I hate when people refer to infertility as "never being able to have a family." Parents with adopted children or children created through surrogates are just as much of a family as parents with fully biological children!
They maybe all ready know that they can't do adoption or a baby in a tube. So I guess they have the right to said that they never going to have a family.
@@nowandaround312 well, I think we should move the accent: "she said SHE couldn't have a family because she didn't have periods." Adoption or surrogacy are choices not everyone would make, and that's totally fine. It doesn't downplay the happiness of families with adopted children or created by surrogate mothers, not a bit. She has her right to mean whatever she wants by the word "family" as long as she talks about HER family, I really don't think you should feel offended by that.
My next door neighbors moved in a while ago. One day they asked whether we would be ok with them fostering children (they were very open that the wife could not have children). Apparently, part of the way of fostering is to inform the neighbors of their choice to foster (not sure why). We had no problem with it. They fostered three little girls, all sisters. After about a year the biological mother took back one of the siblings and eventually our neighbors adopted the two remaining. Our lives are filled with joyful laughter (and the occasional really bad recorder playing) of two very happy children. Families come in all shapes and sizes.
Hi! I had to come comment, because as a turner girl I almost never hear it being discussed anywhere. I know it is rare but still the mental woop woop when I heard you talk about was real 😁 I was diagnosed right after I was born, and my mom cried for days and days because she thought I was gonna die. No heartproblems but something could obviously develop (I'm 25 now) and only thing I have is I'm like a bit hard of hearing and not able to reproduce. My condition is what got me into genetics and now I'm gonna be a licenced veterinarian in 10 weeks and I'm gonna go into the veterinary genetical doctorate program if I get accepted.
My mom and her first cousin, gave birth to me and my second cousin 30 minutes apart in the same hospital. We are 35 and still call each other our twin cousin. Our grandmothers were sisters and died in the same nursing home within a couple of days of each other. I truly believe that their bond was so strong that they didn’t want to live without each other. ❤
Hey Doctor Jones, I just wanted to let you know that your perspective has influence beyond the people that might see your videos even. As a therapist, I found myself picking up your phrase "you do your best with what information you have at the time" in sessions a lot. I just wanted to say thanks, and let you know that your work outside of the OB/GYN field, especially with the time you take for normalizing different feelings, makes a difference.
This is so great to read because it is soo true. I use the same phrase all the time when I analyze situations or even when helping others. It is such simple but wise advice!
I am not a therapist, but I am in therapy for PTSD and since I started watching MDJ’s videos I actually started to use that phrase to describe why I did what I did in the past. It’s so true, everyone should learn it and apply it in their life - having regrets for sth you can’t change anymore isn’t at all productive.
don't hold her too high esteem she was defending Doctor Mike the other day after he's been partying with a ton of people without a mask on even though he's spent the entirety of the pandemic telling people they needed to wear masks, lost all of my respect for him and a decent percentage of my respect for her to be honest. She thinks doctors are above following the rules... I already have trust issues with doctors this just made it even worse.
I had a doctor shout “Oh sh*t, oh sh*t I almost dropped the baby.” Because I was delivering my youngest at that second and he didn’t have time to put on gloves.
Yikes! My son was in distress and the nurse who was checking on me told me to lay on my left side because his heart beat had gone super low, and then she tossed an oxygen mask at me and said "Put it on in" in the most panicked voice and almost ran out the door to find the doctor after she saw I had it on.
I had a nurse accidently step and yank out my feeding tube as a baby, and coincidentally, it was my dad's first time holding me! Talk about a scare, if he wasn't holding me tight I would've been yanked out of his arms...
When I was diagnosed with PCOS, the hormone specialist I had gone to never told me that. She just told me to take metformin and lose 50 lbs. in 6 weeks. The pills made me so sick and she wouldn't tell me what they were for even if I asked. If she's always been on the heavier side like she seems in the interview and how they portray in the re-enactment, her doctors might have just said "She's fat and that's why she's never gotten a period." So many of the various health concerns I've had have just been chocked up to me being overweight without ever doing tests or looking into things further. I had one doctor in my entire life that actually cared about the things I was concerned about but he unfortunately switched to working with an insurance provider I didn't have so I couldn't see him any more. I have never found such a caring doctor since. So most of the time, I just get told to lose weight now and that's why that hurts or that's why this does that, etc. All this to say, It may not just be the editing of the episode as to why they never did any tests for her.
i have a similar but opposite experience. im super skinny so no one thought pcos was a possibility. i was so lucky to find an amazing doctor who looked at all my tests and took my own words into consideration and immediately, within the first visit, told me my diagnosis. she told me what it meant, the exact things she looks for and why she came to that conclusion, told me the risks and told me like a billion treatment options. sadly i lost my job so i cant see those doctors right now but at least i know who to call when i get insurance again :3
Same and I was just barely over a healthy weight when my RE provider came to that lovely conclusion but didn't offer any help or suggestions (I was in the military running many miles per week and eating really good but had stayed the same weight for several years) - it was a man doctor that ignored me but once I got out a female one that saved my sanity and told me it wasn't just in my head that it was a combination of PCOS and endometriosis and helped me with actually getting my hormones better. Don't give up and please if the doctor won't listen to you speak to the patient advocate! You deserve better care than that
I had a similar experience, not overweight but had a sporadic period, then didn't have a period for about 10 years. The ob/gyn gave me a pill, didn't explain anything except I needed to be on birth control. Period from the pill lasted 8 weeks and the doctor/office just said it was fine and when I finished to let them know so I could be put on bc. I didn't go back. My family practice doc diagnosed PCOS a couple of years later.
I love this series, I basically get to watch "I didn't know I was pregnant" for free and hear commentary from a charismatic down to earth obgyn. Love it!
I have not had a period in over 20 years ( PCOS). I got pregnant twice. And had 2 healthy babies. Found out I was pregnant at almost 20 weeks with both kids and delivered. Baby 1 at 31 week ( 11 week pregnancy in my head) and gave birth at 34 weeks with baby number 2. I can tell you is is such a huge shock to find out your pregnant and then to make the mind shift to being a parent in a short span of time. It’s crazy. Cudos to these two who made that mind and heart shift in a matter of hours. So heart warming.
This show is the best to make me paranoid even when you are supposedly infertile you can't trust your body . I guess I just always use contraception no matter what😂😭😭
Literally havent had sex for over 2.5 years and my period was late last month, and I absolutely panicked, first thought was that I was pregnant and then immediately after that, I told myself that I'm an idiot and need to remember how babies are made 😂

Yep I'm definitely late to commenting on this one 😆I had a period once a year since the age of 12. I have PCOS and Behcet's Disease (which does not cause fertility issues). We had fertility treatment with clomiphene 10 years ago which was unsuccessful and accepted we'd never be parents. 8 years ago, I was in between treatments of 2 different immunosuppressants (a 4 month gap) and had to take a routine pregnancy test before starting the new treatment. It was postive! We were in disbelief for much of my early pregnancy but so thankful that we found out when I was 6 weeks pregnant as I was on a lot of meds. We had fallen into the trap of thinking I could never get pregnant. Actually a few days before the pregnancy test I spoke to my family doctor as I kept needing a wee constantly! He was concerned I might have been becoming diabetic. It wasn't that! 😆 But now, we have a gorgeous 7 year old daughter, she is my dream come true. I grieved for years in my 20's about not being able to have children. I wish I could say to my younger self, hang on, it might not happen until your late 30's but it will.
I also have Behcets disease! Had to make a decision to live with it or die from it.. so I fought hard and still am. I've never met another person with the same diagnosis. Wishing you best of luck in your journey against this monster of a disorder.

I know of an unexpected baby who was named Noah because no-one knew he was coming Both mother and father had been diagnosed with fertility issues, father had been in remission from some form of cancer once, but it came back. Unfortunately, the mother had buried both her husband and her mother due to cancer while she was unknowingly pregnant. She assumed she had cancer as well. Fortunately a friend of mine (the husband’s aunt) was an RN at a large clinic and got her in for a full head to toe work up... about a month before baby was born
Now they get to be baby best friends 🥰 I love this so much! I have a "twin cousin" who was born 3 days before me. We even were born in the same hospital, same room. My aunt was discharged right as my mom came in to have me. What a blessing for this family 💕
Ah, LunaMoon, when you get to be my age you will realize (I hope!) that there is very little in life that one can’t joke about. In fact, the tougher the times, the more essential is the ability to joke! I personally have lived through many very difficult, painful, and even tragic situations and I attribute the survival of my mental health to my abitilty to joke and even eventually laugh. Lighten up, Ms Moon, and be happy!
If I was an ultrasound tech and saw a surprise baby I think I’d be like, “I just have to go confirm these results with the doctor,” 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 and inside be like, ffffuuuuUUUUU- soon as I was out of sight I would book it to the doctor
In my experience, it is not a US Tech’s place to offer diagnosis, as they’re not doctors, and don’t have the necessary knowledge (according to the law) to do so.
I know this from personal experience on both sides. When I received a few diagnoses, I saw the look on the tech’s face when they were fetching the doctor.

My husband is a tech and he can't tell anyone what he believes is going on or what he sees even though he knows because it is the dr that is suppose to share that information. So when she told her she was pregnant I was like girl "you about to lose your job" Its a process too. He has to show his findings to the radiologist and then they tell the drs.
@@Manolochoos21 yup. Even though your doctor maybe /can/ read it, even they still have to go through the radiologist. It’s shockingly easy to misidentify imaging results.
As a medical student, I can't thank you enough for your simple explanation of primary and secondary amenorrhea. It's way easier to explain it the way you did instead of explaining it like texts.
First, her reactions to this video put a smile on my face. Second, I had to laugh when she said that doctors need to have a poker face. I was in labor for 5 hours with my son and had just gotten an epidural. The doctor comes in to check on me. As he is doing his exam, his eyes got really wide and he screams to the nurse “Umm, ok. She dilated 10cm and he’s about to fall out.” Don’t think he hid his shock to well.
I worked with a doctor who was so so so smooth in this kind of situation. We had a pregnant patient come in whose complaint was only “ restlessness and anxiety.” We do the same exam for every patient, though, and so we did the thing with the speculum, as the doctor tried to insert it, she said simply, “ And that’s hair,” because the top of the fetus’s head was at the vaginal opening. That was an,”Oh, ok, power walk to the labor room and have a baby before we get the stretcher back out” moment. Luckily, the triage room was exactly by the elevator to the labor rooms. This explains the patient’s restlessness, as it’s really uncomfortable to sit with a pelvis full of baby bones.
This is so fascinating to me. I am 25 years old and pregnant with my first child, but I have only ever had 5 or 6 periods in my life. My doctors have never been able to explain to me why my periods have been so irregular and infrequent, and my husband and I genuinely believed we might never be able to have children. The kicker is I had an IUD inserted at the time our son was conceived, so on birth control with no normal ovulation cycle, and we still got pregnant somehow. I found out I was pregnant when I was 9 weeks along because my morning sickness was no intense I had to go to the ER. It was such a surprise to us even then, I can't imagine not knowing until the day you give birth...
Another happy story of almost twin cousins for you: my sister and I both had our first babies just 10 days apart this year. They were kind of surprises for both of us as we've both had fertility issues and both in our mid-thirties, married for over a decade with no previous children. My sister's husband passed away at the beginning of the year. Our darling girls have been the bright spot to look forward to in the pandemic. Born October 4th and 14th, 2020.
Yep. I haven't had a period from 13,5 to 26 years and now again have had almost none for 3 years. And it is possible to have a regular one at 72 lbs despite what doctors say.
This is so important! I had lost my period due to anorexia and so had no clue I was pregnant, I'm now due July 16th 2021 and am SHOCKED my body could even do that running like it was.
Imagine as you get older, your parents not only telling you that you were born on the same day as your cousin, and that being special enough, but then them telling you the incredible story of your birth. I think you would feel like you were on top of the world.
I just love that he loved her and was happy to be with her, knowing they'd never have a baby....then he was so excited to have a baby, but in his own chill way!
Thank you for speaking about Turner Syndrome. I was born w/ it. And thanks to your videos my friends and family now take my congenital heart defects more seriously than before. It took years for the regular person to understand why I could of had heart surgery as a child, yet endured continuing heart and health problems. Especially important during a pandemic. Watching your videos feels like when I walk into my Obgyns office. YES 👏🏻 they get me hahaha. Heart you, your videos, and awareness. Thank you.
@@Kiki-7 Thank you! I don’t expect others to understand an hla b-27 gene or how it interacts with the immune system ... , just as I don’t expect them to understand Turner Syndrome. If my pcp struggles sometimes (cause it is rare) And I only understand half of it, at best, myself. It is fine, and I try to remain calm and understanding of others. BUT! hahahah, all that said, if someone/anyone says “aortic aneurysmal dilation” or “aortic aneurysm”. “Stenosis” all words that are rare, and then they probably have it, if they bring it up. I mean ... small or big, pandemic or not, it is never not a big health deal I.m.o. and according to science. Preach! hahahaha. In time it does get better 💯. I am learning to step aside and allow them the time and grace to educate if they want. Grieve my life without bio. baby, like I did in the past, and those who truly care always return even more compassionate than before. ❤️💜
@@jaccrazy21 I was lucky to have been diagnosed with it right at birth from what I understand it is rare to be diagnosed with it right at birth most girls that have don't get diagnosed until they are older
As someone who can’t have kids, this makes me so happy. It can be hard to watch people give birth and go to baby showers, but I’m happy to be the friend that gets to be a part of my friends kids lives. And so many of them let me be such a big part. All about finding the silver lining.
What I'm always interested to know is these shows is like, how was the aftermath financially from a surprise baby 😳 like you've one no financial planning for this expense and now you need to pay the hospital bills as well as get clothes, crib, formula maybe, blankets, the entire cost of raising a new human like especially this couple that expected to never have a child.. not to mention the 9 months psychological preparation to be a parent... props
Right???? Like I live in Canada and even with not having to worry about too many hospital costs baby stuff is still expensive lol. Like even unexpectedly finding out you are pregnant normally can be incredibly stressful financially.
Just imagine if it was someone living in poverty with absolutely no extra money. Imagine trying to deal with all the craziness and in the midst of it you have to find a way to buy an expensive car seat just to leave the hospital. Sad to think about honestly.
@@koinwonderland4309 Honestly at that point I would rather abandon the child, give it up or just commit murder. Like as hard as it sounds (and I would rather not commit murder for obvious reasons, that would have to be the extreme or extremes) I would just not take care for it.
I have a girlfriend- never, ever had her period. Thought After the wedding they'd have to go though all the options. .... On their honeymoon- she's starting to feel really, really sick- nauseous all day. They now have four little girls- no complications. Everything perfect- the last labour only went for an hour. . Lord the stigma surrounding periods. My husbands best friend sat with us one night and had several questions for me about periods. And let me tell you it was the most refreshing thing to have a man come to me with legit interest in the subject. Of course I answered all of his questions openly and honestly because I feel it is a topic too many people are lacking knowledge about. Also one of my nieces had her first birthday party cancelled because her mom was having such bad pain in her back that she went to the hospital. She ended up delivering a healthy baby boy that day and never knew she was pregnant let alone in labor ☺️

As someone who's dealt with infertility I am SO happy for her! Supporting a loved one through pregnancy when you can't have a child of your own is really hard and it takes a lot of strength and selflessness. I'm imagining her trying to emotionally prepare herself to go visit them in the hospital and then SURPRISE she actually ends up having a baby that same day. That's so awesome! And I love the way the other mother reacted with joy and excitement when she could feel like her thunder was stolen. Everyone in this story is awesome and the happy ending is the best!
My sister has it! I am also I science teacher and when I taught genetics my students had a project and a lot of them chose turner’s syndrome which they had never heard of before but now know
Really? Chromosome anomalies like Turner Syndrome are a standard part of sex ed where I live (Germany), which is a mandatory subject in school, so pretty much everyone has heard about it. Funny how things like that are different around the world.
@@suceeey I wish when I was in sex Ed it was nothing like that. My sister has Turner syndrome so I’ve always known about it. But I had a professor that didn’t know about it until I wrote my adaptive technology paper about Turner syndrome. I teach seventh grade science and we do genetics so I always make sure to teach them about it
My cousins Jeff and Paul were born same day, to two separate sets of parents in the same hospital. My aunts shared same hospital room after giving birth. 😊

My sister-in-law and I were pregnant at the same time too, though we both knew about it. It wasn’t done on purpose either and our babies were born a couple of hours difference but one day apart. She came to see my baby just minutes before delivering hers. It was quite a special moment.
I have fun telling healthcare professionals I haven't had a period in years. The look of concern on their face, until I tell them I had a hysterectomy :D
Same, except I still have everything and it is all theoretically functional, but I take daily BC pills with no gap weeks and as a result stopped getting any period bleeding at all a few years ago. If I get super stressed I can still get a bit of breakthrough bleeding, but nothing significant.
@@FoxDragon I didn't know there was a pill regimen like that. My bad periods was why I chose to get a hysterectomy. Then again, I had both fibroids and endometriosis.
My doc shouted ‘whoa!’ when my first daughter was born. To be fair, I had just easily birthed a 10lb3oz baby with no trouble at all. He was impressed, lol. The ob who’d done an ultrasound a week prior estimated baby as 8 lbs.
@Emma Todd lol. After my daughter and I were all cleaned up and settled in, he asked me if he could tell the people at the clinic. He said, ‘They’re going to want to hear about this.’ It was a family medicine clinic, and we were mini celebrities for well over a year. Everyone wanted to see the 10 lber and the mama who delivered her.
@@missymissborderlinematthew2943 my 3rd child, I was ‘advanced maternal age’ and deemed too risky for my family doctor to act as my pregnancy doc. This meant I had to switch to an ob. That doc swore my daughter was around 9 lbs the day before I was going to be induced (I told him absolutely not; this child was bigger than my 1st as of the due date). I went into labor that day, and popped out another 10 lb 3 oz baby. My regular ob was out of town for a meeting (he was going to be available for the induction the next day), and the on call doc who wound up doing the delivery gave my regular ob such a hard time for underestimating baby’s size by so much. lol Child 1 at 42 weeks, 3 days: 10 lbs 3 oz Child 2 at 41 weeks: 9 lbs 5 oz and a placenta that wasn’t terribly healthy. Child 3 at 39 weeks 6 days: 10 lbs 3 oz Babies are freaking enormous in my family, despite no diabetes. But we do have a strong history of fraternal twins, so I’ve wondered if we’re just built to nourish 2 babies or 1 giant baby. I read about a study that found mothers on their 2nd and subsequent pregnancies had better baby size estimates than ultrasound/doctors. That’s definitely been my experience.
@@GoiterGoblin lol. The hospital didn’t have those little newborn shirts big enough for my baby, so we brought some from home. They also had to scramble to find diapers big enough.
Just here to say that i found you when my wife was pregnant last year. You know, doing the whole nerd husband thing and amassing as much info as possible. Your channel is so needed, keep it up. I didn’t have my first period until age 21 due to PCOS. It lasted 3 weeks and I was miserable. Several years later, I hemorrhaged and nearly died because of how thick the lining of my uterus had gotten due to irregular periods. When I finally ovulated after nearly 2 years of no period, it tore all the blood vessels and I bled fast and bled a lot. I was in the hospital for nearly a week and ended up needing 9 units of blood, which is almost an entire person‘s worth. It was terrifying.
I've never been on the show but I was one of the "I didn't know I was pregnant" people and I can tell you ALLLL about how tf it feels to have an ultrasound technician go "Well, there's a fetus in there."
@@harringt100 No, I luckily didn't get that far, but I was multiple months along when I found out. I had 0 symptoms, absolutely nothing changed. I went to the ER for abnormal spotting and they found a 4 month baby on the ultrasound! I didn't have any symptoms for like another month and then suddenly I gained weight and started having morning sickness and all of that at 5 months. Other than a learning disability caused by folate deficiency during pregnancy (I wasn't taking prenatals until 4 months in because I didn't know), they're perfectly healthy and happy.
@@KT-Kaboom - do you have the MTHFR gene? I do, too, but wasn’t given better folate medication until 6 months. I’m worried about my babies future… I have been taking prenatal vitamins the entire time. Did they tell you that was the cause? Btw, congratulations on your little one!

It always amazes me when we have someone come in in labor who didn't know they were pregnant. I always say, "I bet this isn't how you saw your day going when you got up this morning!"
I love that, with doing what you do every day, you have such joy, when each of these women end up with a healthy child, and that’s a rare gift.! One would be very lucky to have you as an Obgyn !

While not a "didn't know I was pregnant" moment, I thought it would be cool to share about my birthday twin. Back in the 90's, my mom was pregnant with me and my brother was 6. On the same block in our neighborhood, there was a boy who was 8 and he was friends with my brother. They often went over to each other's houses and despite our parents knowing who that kid was, they never met the other parent so they were completely unaware the other's mom was also pregnant. When my mom had me in the hospital, they were a bit full, so they had her pair up in a hospital room with another woman after she had me who also had a baby girl. When the other woman's son came to visit, my mom recognized him as her son's friend and that was when they realized they both had girls, on the same day, they lived on the same block, and they both had sons who were friends. It was a pretty crazy coincidence. lol
Diagnosed myself with TS when I was a teen. So grateful my mom & Dr. listened. My life could have been totally different so it's very critical to find the answers.
In January 2019 my period disappeared. March of 2020 it returned. I went 13 months without a period and i got pregnant in april. ☺ January 2021 we get our little boy💙 In september of 2018 i had a miscarriage at about 7-8 weeks never knowing i was pregnant. My periods have always been irregular. After my miscarriage, i was diagnosed with PCOS and my period disappeared again. I had tried to get pregnant since 2015 so i thought this meant it would never happen. I usually skipped 2 or 3 months at the most. After going through a year with no period i gave up the dream of being a mother. Until me and my best friend of 6 years decided to sleep together. He knew when he wanted to come (the baby😂)💙 33 weeks today and hoping for a safe and healthy delivery.

@@mrsdv i don't think it was that night. He came over right when quarantine started and his college shut down. He was staying at his moms then after that night just stayed with me. So... It lead to it. we "conceived" about 2 weeks into his stay xD

Me too! It’s gotta make you feel like you and your baby were just swept to the side. I’m 41 weeks and a day pregnant right now and my aunt just brought home her new baby yesterday. He was a bit of a surprise (emergency foster baby), and even with how excited I am for them, I know I felt terrible yesterday hearing everyone talk about how excited they are that he’s home and such when my son should have been here already. Can’t imagine it being a total surprise and having them both born on the same day.
My daughter’s brother in law and his wife had their first two children within a few weeks, maybe days? Of my daughter’s first two children. It has created some awkward tension for the brothers when baby brother (my son in law) produced the “first” grandchild... and as you might imagine, my daughter had mixed feelings when they both ended up pregnant at the same time the second time. Note: that grandma was over the moon !
Yeah, I would have been a bit ehhhhh about it. I was trying for two years to have my daughter, including a miscarriage. My step-niece got accidentally pregnant and had a baby in that time, which was annoying, but then when I finally was pregnant and seemed to be carrying it, my step-sister (step-niece's mom) had an oops baby (20 years after her last kid) that was due only a couple weeks before me. . . And it sucks when you don't want to feel that way but you still do. . .
I was pregnant the same time as one of my best friends at that time. Her husband grew up with my husband. The 3 of them went to college together and then I came along and all 4 of us got along really well. We went on vacations together and constantly did things together. I remember calling her and telling her I thought I was pregnant. We had just taken a home pregnancy test and it was positive but we were waiting before we announced it to everyone until we saw a doctor. She paused and told me she just took a pregnancy test too and they were doing the same. My due date was a couple days before hers but she went in a couple days early and was induced. My baby decided to stick around in his warm comfy house. My husband was devastated they had their baby first. It never bothered me so much but he really wanted to be first. A couple days later we had our son. It was nice having someone going through exactly the same experience at the exact same time. Even though our pregnancies were different. It was just comforting to have someone to talk to. Heck our husbands even ditched us on Valentine’s Day to go to a rock concert. We were both 8.5 months along so she came over and we watched cheesy movies. We didn’t care they went, btw. In fact we encouraged them to go. These two couples seem super close and they are family. I’m sure there was some underlying feelings of thunder being stolen but I bet in the end it was just really nice to have the support of family and friend in this very unique circumstance. Oh and I beat her the second time around and had my baby first..... soooo it’s all good😉
Why is it always about "stealing the thunder" in the western countries? I mean can't people be happy for each other? it should be something to celebrate, life's not a competition to grab attention, it should be about spreading love and celebrating life. Bringing a life into this world is such a precious thing why taint it with jealousy and worries about who people would pay more attention to? That is just so petty and vain.
My eldest, now passed daughter and my 2nd eldest daughter had sons on the same day, 7 years apart and all my eldest kept say was " I'm so sorry I had my son on the same day sis!" To me it was a magical time, being the grandma. R.I.P. to my eldest babygirl that passed only a mere 2.5 years ago. I will continue raising the now younger of the two, 11 year old with the love only a mother can supply. 🌹
I had really irregular cycles and had to take 3 months worth of meds to get pregnant with my first. My cycle got really regular after he was born and I had no problems getting pregnant with my other children.

I was actually diagnosed as peri-menopausal a few years ago. I’m not even 35 yet. But I am taking a pretty low dosage of levothyroxine, and for a while my period was normal, but still couldn’t get pregnant. It would be interesting to hear everything from her perspective. My doctors haven’t really given many answers. (I did find out that my egg quality/quantity was poor, but not sure if it had to do with my thyroid)
I have Hashimoto's and I'm currently pregnant. It's definitely possible. I was also on a very low dose of lexothyroxine. We were TTC for about 2 years (tracking ovulation with test strips) and had decided to take a break when I got pregnant.
I'm a twin cousin! My mom and my dad's sister delivered on the same day. They both knew they were pregnant but we were supposed to be a month apart since my cousin was two weeks early and I was two weeks late
Me and my sister in law had our babies on the same day. I was 3 weeks early and she was 2 weeks over due. We both had a boy. The nurses were confused cause both baby boys had the same last name and she kept asking why are these twins not closer to each other and the other nurse had to explain to her one baby was mine and the other baby belonged to my sister in law lol

I forgot which Christmas special it was, but it was the one when they were putting on the Christmas pageant and they needed a baby. And then, the woman who lost her baby 22 years before that Christmas had a baby. That one got me emotional!
@@16poetisa so in general, I find the first 3 series to be the most enotional. These series were based on the memoirs of real Jenny, and by definition memories from decades ago will remain because they are accompanied by powerful emotion, joy or sadness. So I find the early seasons are the ones which have me ugly crying most. Not to say the newer seasons aren't emotional, but there is something about a real story, that echo of real life that comes through. The 2012 Christmas special has me crying Every. Darn. Time.
Just stumbled across your channel with the cousins being born on the same day. I thought it was fascinating because, fifty four years ago two of my friends married and she was a bit worried because she seldom had periods. Almost a year later he took her to the hospital because of a very bad stomach ache. She delivered a healthy little girl. When people asked my friends admitted that she had given up on losing weight because nothing was working.😂❤
I know my best friend sister never had a menstrual, She keep going to doctor to try to figure out why!! She got preg at 35 and didn't find out she was till 6 months haha but she now has one of the prettiest Lil girls I ever seen in my life!! She thought the where messing with her when she found out she was pregnant I laugh cause I was like miracles happen a few weeks before cause she was so upset about not being a mama!! I couldn't be more happy for them and she has to be one of the best mom I ever seen in my life!! She love that baby like no other!! Thanks for this story it's heart warming!! Miracles happen :)
Thank you your words are a message from heaven for me. My mum died 12 years ago and today would have been her Birthday. I was just saying to my dad yesterday that I felt guilty I didn't push doctors for answers in the month before she died and he said you can only go by what you are told and mum would say the same. Mama Doctor Jones I wonder if she has a prolactinoma!? I’d be shocked if they didn’t check prolactin levels in bloodwork but from someone who has this condition it sounds like a possibility!? I never had a period but randomly did once as a late teenager! Years past and once my condition was diagnosed things changed for me with treatment. Before treatment I did get a random period just once, so it crossed my mind for this women!

@@marthahawkinson-michau9611 oh yeah there are a couple of documented cases of it occurring and probably many more unknown cases. It’s the same as when a woman becomes pregnant with fraternal twins by one man - her body releases multiple eggs within the same time frame and both become fertilized but in this case by two different men. It would mean she would have to have sex with 2 different men within I believe a week (and in if it was brothers that would be so awkward.

My sister and I had our babies within 16 hours of each other. Ended up with different birthdays tho. But my parents drove from my sister’s hospital straight to mine because we delivered in cities with 5 hours travel straight between. My mom was never so happy to spend 11 hours in a car with my dad in one day 🤣.
My sister in law and I delivered about 14 hours apart. The polar vortex apparently made all the babies come that day.

Doctor Jones, could you make a video talking about how it's okay to talk about periods with your sons? My MIL is a little nuts, and she thinks I shouldn't talk to my two boys about periods because it's "women's business." I told her that I've already spoken to them about it, and she basically thinks I'm a horrible person. It was on a kid level, nothing gross or inappropriate, but I think we should teach our sons about stuff like this because it's absolutely normal.
Not a professional but as a woman who dated men PLEASE TALK TO YOUR SONS. I had an ex boyfriend refuse to check out with me at the grocery store once because I was buying tampons. Husband is amazing about natural biology and I’m so thankful that his mom mentioned it when he was younger. We are going through some pretty heavy infertility stuff currently and the fact that he has always been comfortable with the subject matter as made my entire experience better.
You are a good mom. My BF's mom was very open about her periods with him and he is honestly the most supportive and understanding partner when it comes to mensuration (everything else too). I had been taught it was "women's business" - though my dad had absolutely no issue getting me anything I needed for my period - and am absolutely mortified to bring it up. My BF's assurance and support has made me more open about what I am going through and it has added a beautiful level of intimacy to our relationship.
Over here giving you a high five for doing that! ✋Honestly, it's more weird to keep boys/men in the dark, imho. Keeping it a mystery just leads to misogynistic attitudes, especially if they're only hearing about it from guys because the women in their lives act like it's taboo too.

My OB is amazing. My water broke and I made it to 3 1/2 centimeters before I stopped dilating. He came in and checked me and told me that if I didn’t start dilating within the next 30 minutes he was going to recommend a C-Section. I had high blood pressure throughout my pregnancy. Never once did he let on something may have been wrong. I agreed and he left the room. Not even 10 minutes later nurses walk in telling me they’re prepping the OR and I’m having a C-Section. My husband starts calling my Daddy and my cousin as they wheel me into the OR. They still never let on anything was wrong. My OB was calm the entire time. The only indication we got that something wasn’t right was after they got my daughter out he goes “Oh it was the cord. That was what the problem was.” After I was stable and stitched and stapled up, he then explained that her cord was blocking my cervix and that when I had the last contraction right after he walked out of my room my blood pressure shot up to 220/110 and her heart stopped. It’s been 5 years and when we found out I was pregnant again I didn’t even have to think of who my Dr would be.

the end makes me happy for you, but i feel like doctors hiding things from mothers may not be the best case.. hopefully if you had resisted his seemingly autocratic declaration of what you were GOING to do, he would have just as calmly explained himself so you could make an informed decision or at least prepare yourself.

That's a well experienced doctor who was looking out for everyones best interest. That's very rare. I haven't had any children yet, but finding an OB/Gyn for pregnancy in the future gives me anxiety because I've come across so many doctors that didn't give me the care I needed for my endometriosis.
I've always had my period but it just mysteriously stopped 7 years ago after having my daughter. But just last month I found out I am pregnant and am on my 6 month going on 7 in a week. Truly a miracle. Baby boy on the way 💙

I have normal periods but never had cramps and labor was definitely a surprise!
My 1st kid I had never had cramps. Never could understand girls in school then later at work that always complained. Thought they were trying to get a free day or 2 off. Then after my 2nd kid, oh gosh I knew what cramps were!! Had them very bad for a few years. My mom said she never had cramps and I was the only kid so never seen someone in my household have cramps.
I get cramps without getting my period most of the time so that's fun
@@mermaidismyname it's probably a good idea to go to the doctor about that, you might have endometriosis or PCOS, or you could be having some issues with your digestive system
Wow, to those people who never had cramps before labour...mine cramps were so bad, after my first was born, I can recall thinking, " I'd rather give birth again, than have a regular period."

I had a friend who stopped getting her period for a year at age 28, and when she went to her doctor about it, he just said "that's normal" and shrugged her off. She told me about it, because she was so concerned and I insisted she get a second opinion because it sounded like PCOS to me. She went to a woman doctor and sure enough, she has PCOS. But it's sadly not uncommon for doctors to dismiss women's reproductive health as just "hmm must be ghosts in your blood!"

My mum got pregnant at 44 with my youngest sister. She went to the doctor (male) because she was having stomach pains and he told her she was obese & going through menopause. Later that year, when my sister was 30 weeks, a female doctor took blood tests/ultrasounds etc and found out she was pregnant.

I hate when people refer to infertility as "never being able to have a family." Parents with adopted children or children created through surrogates are just as much of a family as parents with fully biological children!
They maybe all ready know that they can't do adoption or a baby in a tube. So I guess they have the right to said that they never going to have a family.

Adoption or surrogacy are choices not everyone would make, and that's totally fine. It doesn't downplay the happiness of families with adopted children or created by surrogate mothers, not a bit. She has her right to mean whatever she wants by the word "family" as long as she talks about HER family, I really don't think you should feel offended by that.
And what is a spouse? Chopped liver? Even if I didnt have my two kids, my husband is still family.
My next door neighbors moved in a while ago. One day they asked whether we would be ok with them fostering children (they were very open that the wife could not have children). Apparently, part of the way of fostering is to inform the neighbors of their choice to foster (not sure why). We had no problem with it. They fostered three little girls, all sisters. After about a year the biological mother took back one of the siblings and eventually our neighbors adopted the two remaining. Our lives are filled with joyful laughter (and the occasional really bad recorder playing) of two very happy children. Families come in all shapes and sizes.
Hi! I had to come comment, because as a turner girl I almost never hear it being discussed anywhere. I know it is rare but still the mental woop woop when I heard you talk about was real 😁 I was diagnosed right after I was born, and my mom cried for days and days because she thought I was gonna die. No heartproblems but something could obviously develop (I'm 25 now) and only thing I have is I'm like a bit hard of hearing and not able to reproduce. My condition is what got me into genetics and now I'm gonna be a licenced veterinarian in 10 weeks and I'm gonna go into the veterinary genetical doctorate program if I get accepted.

My mom and her first cousin, gave birth to me and my second cousin 30 minutes apart in the same hospital. We are 35 and still call each other our twin cousin. Our grandmothers were sisters and died in the same nursing home within a couple of days of each other. I truly believe that their bond was so strong that they didn’t want to live without each other. ❤
Hey Doctor Jones, I just wanted to let you know that your perspective has influence beyond the people that might see your videos even. As a therapist, I found myself picking up your phrase "you do your best with what information you have at the time" in sessions a lot. I just wanted to say thanks, and let you know that your work outside of the OB/GYN field, especially with the time you take for normalizing different feelings, makes a difference.
This is so great to read because it is soo true. I use the same phrase all the time when I analyze situations or even when helping others. It is such simple but wise advice!
I'm a therapist and use this phrase too!
I am not a therapist, but I am in therapy for PTSD and since I started watching MDJ’s videos I actually started to use that phrase to describe why I did what I did in the past. It’s so true, everyone should learn it and apply it in their life - having regrets for sth you can’t change anymore isn’t at all productive.

don't hold her too high esteem she was defending Doctor Mike the other day after he's been partying with a ton of people without a mask on even though he's spent the entirety of the pandemic telling people they needed to wear masks, lost all of my respect for him and a decent percentage of my respect for her to be honest. She thinks doctors are above following the rules... I already have trust issues with doctors this just made it even worse.

My son was in distress and the nurse who was checking on me told me to lay on my left side because his heart beat had gone super low, and then she tossed an oxygen mask at me and said "Put it on in" in the most panicked voice and almost ran out the door to find the doctor after she saw I had it on.
That would be intense!
I had a nurse accidently step and yank out my feeding tube as a baby, and coincidentally, it was my dad's first time holding me! Talk about a scare, if he wasn't holding me tight I would've been yanked out of his arms...
When I was diagnosed with PCOS, the hormone specialist I had gone to never told me that. She just told me to take metformin and lose 50 lbs. in 6 weeks. The pills made me so sick and she wouldn't tell me what they were for even if I asked. If she's always been on the heavier side like she seems in the interview and how they portray in the re-enactment, her doctors might have just said "She's fat and that's why she's never gotten a period." So many of the various health concerns I've had have just been chocked up to me being overweight without ever doing tests or looking into things further. I had one doctor in my entire life that actually cared about the things I was concerned about but he unfortunately switched to working with an insurance provider I didn't have so I couldn't see him any more. I have never found such a caring doctor since. So most of the time, I just get told to lose weight now and that's why that hurts or that's why this does that, etc. All this to say, It may not just be the editing of the episode as to why they never did any tests for her.
i have a similar but opposite experience. im super skinny so no one thought pcos was a possibility. i was so lucky to find an amazing doctor who looked at all my tests and took my own words into consideration and immediately, within the first visit, told me my diagnosis. she told me what it meant, the exact things she looks for and why she came to that conclusion, told me the risks and told me like a billion treatment options. sadly i lost my job so i cant see those doctors right now but at least i know who to call when i get insurance again :3
Same and I was just barely over a healthy weight when my RE provider came to that lovely conclusion but didn't offer any help or suggestions (I was in the military running many miles per week and eating really good but had stayed the same weight for several years) - it was a man doctor that ignored me but once I got out a female one that saved my sanity and told me it wasn't just in my head that it was a combination of PCOS and endometriosis and helped me with actually getting my hormones better. Don't give up and please if the doctor won't listen to you speak to the patient advocate! You deserve better care than that
Probably fat people especially women get terrible medical care it's outrageous
I had a similar experience, not overweight but had a sporadic period, then didn't have a period for about 10 years. The ob/gyn gave me a pill, didn't explain anything except I needed to be on birth control. Period from the pill lasted 8 weeks and the doctor/office just said it was fine and when I finished to let them know so I could be put on bc. I didn't go back. My family practice doc diagnosed PCOS a couple of years later.
Isn't Metformin for diabetes??? Or can be taken for other conditions too?

I have not had a period in over 20 years ( PCOS). I got pregnant twice. And had 2 healthy babies. Found out I was pregnant at almost 20 weeks with both kids and delivered. Baby 1 at 31 week ( 11 week pregnancy in my head) and gave birth at 34 weeks with baby number 2.
I can tell you is is such a huge shock to find out your pregnant and then to make the mind shift to being a parent in a short span of time. It’s crazy. Cudos to these two who made that mind and heart shift in a matter of hours. So heart warming.
I have nightmares about this kind of thing once or twice a year 😂 realizing I'm giving birth in a few weeks and have no time to make decisions
Because of this show, every time my period is slightly varied from normal, I think I’m pregnant. Even though I’m not sexually active. 😅
This show is the best to make me paranoid even when you are supposedly infertile you can't trust your body . I guess I just always use contraception no matter what😂😭😭

Yep I'm definitely late to commenting on this one 😆I had a period once a year since the age of 12. I have PCOS and Behcet's Disease (which does not cause fertility issues). We had fertility treatment with clomiphene 10 years ago which was unsuccessful and accepted we'd never be parents. 8 years ago, I was in between treatments of 2 different immunosuppressants (a 4 month gap) and had to take a routine pregnancy test before starting the new treatment. It was postive! We were in disbelief for much of my early pregnancy but so thankful that we found out when I was 6 weeks pregnant as I was on a lot of meds. We had fallen into the trap of thinking I could never get pregnant. Actually a few days before the pregnancy test I spoke to my family doctor as I kept needing a wee constantly! He was concerned I might have been becoming diabetic. It wasn't that! 😆 But now, we have a gorgeous 7 year old daughter, she is my dream come true. I grieved for years in my 20's about not being able to have children. I wish I could say to my younger self, hang on, it might not happen until your late 30's but it will.
I also have Behcets disease! Had to make a decision to live with it or die from it.. so I fought hard and still am. I've never met another person with the same diagnosis. Wishing you best of luck in your journey against this monster of a disorder.

Both mother and father had been diagnosed with fertility issues, father had been in remission from some form of cancer once, but it came back. Unfortunately, the mother had buried both her husband and her mother due to cancer while she was unknowingly pregnant. She assumed she had cancer as well. Fortunately a friend of mine (the husband’s aunt) was an RN at a large clinic and got her in for a full head to toe work up... about a month before baby was born

In fact, the tougher the times, the more essential is the ability to joke! In my experience, it is not a US Tech’s place to offer diagnosis, as they’re not doctors, and don’t have the necessary knowledge (according to the law) to do so.
I know this from personal experience on both sides. When I received a few diagnoses, I saw the look on the tech’s face when they were fetching the doctor.

My husband is a tech and he can't tell anyone what he believes is going on or what he sees even though he knows because it is the dr that is suppose to share that information. So when she told her she was pregnant I was like girl "you about to lose your job" Its a process too. He has to show his findings to the radiologist and then they tell the drs.

Second, I had to laugh when she said that doctors need to have a poker face. I was in labor for 5 hours with my son and had just gotten an epidural. The doctor comes in to check on me. As he is doing his exam, his eyes got really wide and he screams to the nurse “Umm, ok. She dilated 10cm and he’s about to fall out.” Don’t think he hid his shock to well.

I worked with a doctor who was so so so smooth in this kind of situation. We had a pregnant patient come in whose complaint was only “ restlessness and anxiety.” We do the same exam for every patient, though, and so we did the thing with the speculum, as the doctor tried to insert it, she said simply, “ And that’s hair,” because the top of the fetus’s head was at the vaginal opening.
That was an,”Oh, ok, power walk to the labor room and have a baby before we get the stretcher back out” moment. Luckily, the triage room was exactly by the elevator to the labor rooms.
This explains the patient’s restlessness, as it’s really uncomfortable to sit with a pelvis full of baby bones.
This is so fascinating to me. I am 25 years old and pregnant with my first child, but I have only ever had 5 or 6 periods in my life. My doctors have never been able to explain to me why my periods have been so irregular and infrequent, and my husband and I genuinely believed we might never be able to have children. The kicker is I had an IUD inserted at the time our son was conceived, so on birth control with no normal ovulation cycle, and we still got pregnant somehow. I found out I was pregnant when I was 9 weeks along because my morning sickness was no intense I had to go to the ER. It was such a surprise to us even then, I can't imagine not knowing until the day you give birth...
Another happy story of almost twin cousins for you: my sister and I both had our first babies just 10 days apart this year. They were kind of surprises for both of us as we've both had fertility issues and both in our mid-thirties, married for over a decade with no previous children. My sister's husband passed away at the beginning of the year. Our darling girls have been the bright spot to look forward to in the pandemic. Born October 4th and 14th, 2020.

Yep. I haven't had a period from 13,5 to 26 years and now again have had almost none for 3 years. And it is possible to have a regular one at 72 lbs despite what doctors say.
This is so important! I had lost my period due to anorexia and so had no clue I was pregnant, I'm now due July 16th 2021 and am SHOCKED my body could even do that running like it was.
Imagine as you get older, your parents not only telling you that you were born on the same day as your cousin, and that being special enough, but then them telling you the incredible story of your birth. I think you would feel like you were on top of the world.

Thank you for speaking about Turner Syndrome. I was born w/ it. And thanks to your videos my friends and family now take my congenital heart defects more seriously than before. It took years for the regular person to understand why I could of had heart surgery as a child, yet endured continuing heart and health problems. Especially important during a pandemic. @@Kiki-7 Thank you! I don’t expect others to understand an hla b-27 gene or how it interacts with the immune system ... , just as I don’t expect them to understand Turner Syndrome. If my pcp struggles sometimes (cause it is rare) And I only understand half of it, at best, myself. It is fine, and I try to remain calm and understanding of others. BUT! hahahah, all that said, if someone/anyone says “aortic aneurysmal dilation” or “aortic aneurysm”. “Stenosis” all words that are rare, and then they probably have it, if they bring it up. I mean ... small or big, pandemic or not, it is never not a big health deal I.m.o. and according to science. Preach! hahahaha. In time it does get better 💯. I am learning to step aside and allow them the time and grace to educate if they want. Grieve my life without bio. baby, like I did in the past, and those who truly care always return even more compassionate than before. ❤️💜

As someone who can’t have kids, this makes me so happy. It can be hard to watch people give birth and go to baby showers, but I’m happy to be the friend that gets to be a part of my friends kids lives. And so many of them let me be such a big part. All about finding the silver lining.

What I'm always interested to know is these shows is like, how was the aftermath financially from a surprise baby 😳 like you've one no financial planning for this expense and now you need to pay the hospital bills as well as get clothes, crib, formula maybe, blankets, the entire cost of raising a new human like especially this couple that expected to never have a child.. not to mention the 9 months psychological preparation to be a parent... props
Right???? Like I live in Canada and even with not having to worry about too many hospital costs baby stuff is still expensive lol. Like even unexpectedly finding out you are pregnant normally can be incredibly stressful financially.
Just imagine if it was someone living in poverty with absolutely no extra money. Imagine trying to deal with all the craziness and in the midst of it you have to find a way to buy an expensive car seat just to leave the hospital. Sad to think about honestly.

Lord the stigma surrounding periods. My husbands best friend sat with us one night and had several questions for me about periods. And let me tell you it was the most refreshing thing to have a man come to me with legit interest in the subject. Of course I answered all of his questions openly and honestly because I feel it is a topic too many people are lacking knowledge about. Also one of my nieces had her first birthday party cancelled because her mom was having such bad pain in her back that she went to the hospital. She ended up delivering a healthy baby boy that day and never knew she was pregnant let alone in labor ☺️

As someone who's dealt with infertility I am SO happy for her! Supporting a loved one through pregnancy when you can't have a child of your own is really hard and it takes a lot of strength and selflessness. I'm imagining her trying to emotionally prepare herself to go visit them in the hospital and then SURPRISE she actually ends up having a baby that same day. That's so awesome! And I love the way the other mother reacted with joy and excitement when she could feel like her thunder was stolen. Everyone in this story is awesome and the happy ending is the best!

Really? Chromosome anomalies like Turner Syndrome are a standard part of sex ed where I live (Germany), which is a mandatory subject in school, so pretty much everyone has heard about it. Funny how things like that are different around the world.
@@suceeey I wish when I was in sex Ed it was nothing like that. My sister has Turner syndrome so I’ve always known about it. But I had a professor that didn’t know about it until I wrote my adaptive technology paper about Turner syndrome. I teach seventh grade science and we do genetics so I always make sure to teach them about it

My sister-in-law and I were pregnant at the same time too, though we both knew about it. It wasn’t done on purpose either and our babies were born a couple of hours difference but one day apart. She came to see my baby just minutes before delivering hers. It was quite a special moment.

I've had an ablation and haven't had a period in almost 3 years. It's fun seeing their reaction to me telling them that.
Same, except I still have everything and it is all theoretically functional, but I take daily BC pills with no gap weeks and as a result stopped getting any period bleeding at all a few years ago. If I get super stressed I can still get a bit of breakthrough bleeding, but nothing significant.

He said, ‘They’re going to want to hear about this.’ It was a family medicine clinic, and we were mini celebrities for well over a year. Everyone wanted to see the 10 lber and the mama who delivered her.
My second born was 10 lbs 10 oz and the nurse said “he looks like a 3 month old!” when he was born 😂
I had the same thing. My son was estimated 7lb 14oz at 37 weeks. He was born at 38 weeks weighing 9lb 2oz x
@@missymissborderlinematthew2943 my 3rd child, I was ‘advanced maternal age’ and deemed too risky for my family doctor to act as my pregnancy doc. This meant I had to switch to an ob. That doc swore my daughter was around 9 lbs the day before I was going to be induced (I told him absolutely not; this child was bigger than my 1st as of the due date). I went into labor that day, and popped out another 10 lb 3 oz baby. My regular ob was out of town for a meeting (he was going to be available for the induction the next day), and the on call doc who wound up doing the delivery gave my regular ob such a hard time for underestimating baby’s size by so much. lol
Child 1 at 42 weeks, 3 days: 10 lbs 3 oz
Child 2 at 41 weeks: 9 lbs 5 oz and a placenta that wasn’t terribly healthy.
Child 3 at 39 weeks 6 days: 10 lbs 3 oz
Babies are freaking enormous in my family, despite no diabetes. But we do have a strong history of fraternal twins, so I’ve wondered if we’re just built to nourish 2 babies or 1 giant baby.
I read about a study that found mothers on their 2nd and subsequent pregnancies had better baby size estimates than ultrasound/doctors. That’s definitely been my experience.

I didn’t have my first period until age 21 due to PCOS. It lasted 3 weeks and I was miserable. Several years later, I hemorrhaged and nearly died because of how thick the lining of my uterus had gotten due to irregular periods. When I finally ovulated after nearly 2 years of no period, it tore all the blood vessels and I bled fast and bled a lot. I was in the hospital for nearly a week and ended up needing 9 units of blood, which is almost an entire person‘s worth. It was terrifying.

I've never been on the show but I was one of the "I didn't know I was pregnant" people and I can tell you ALLLL about how tf it feels to have an ultrasound technician go "Well, there's a fetus in there."

@@harringt100 No, I luckily didn't get that far, but I was multiple months along when I found out. I had 0 symptoms, absolutely nothing changed. I went to the ER for abnormal spotting and they found a 4 month baby on the ultrasound! I didn't have any symptoms for like another month and then suddenly I gained weight and started having morning sickness and all of that at 5 months. Other than a learning disability caused by folate deficiency during pregnancy (I wasn't taking prenatals until 4 months in because I didn't know), they're perfectly healthy and happy.
@@KT-Kaboom - do you have the MTHFR gene? I do, too, but wasn’t given better folate medication until 6 months. I’m worried about my babies future… I have been taking prenatal vitamins the entire time. Did they tell you that was the cause? Btw, congratulations on your little one!

It always amazes me when we have someone come in in labor who didn't know they were pregnant. I always say, "I bet this isn't how you saw your day going when you got up this morning!"

While not a "didn't know I was pregnant" moment, I thought it would be cool to share about my birthday twin. Back in the 90's, my mom was pregnant with me and my brother was 6. On the same block in our neighborhood, there was a boy who was 8 and he was friends with my brother. They often went over to each other's houses and despite our parents knowing who that kid was, they never met the other parent so they were completely unaware the other's mom was also pregnant. When my mom had me in the hospital, they were a bit full, so they had her pair up in a hospital room with another woman after she had me who also had a baby girl. When the other woman's son came to visit, my mom recognized him as her son's friend and that was when they realized they both had girls, on the same day, they lived on the same block, and they both had sons who were friends. It was a pretty crazy coincidence. lol

In January 2019 my period disappeared. March of 2020 it returned. I went 13 months without a period and i got pregnant in april. ☺ January 2021 we get our little boy💙
In september of 2018 i had a miscarriage at about 7-8 weeks never knowing i was pregnant. My periods have always been irregular. After my miscarriage, i was diagnosed with PCOS and my period disappeared again. I had tried to get pregnant since 2015 so i thought this meant it would never happen. I usually skipped 2 or 3 months at the most. After going through a year with no period i gave up the dream of being a mother. Until me and my best friend of 6 years decided to sleep together. He knew when he wanted to come (the baby😂)💙 33 weeks today and hoping for a safe and healthy delivery.

@@mrsdv i don't think it was that night. He came over right when quarantine started and his college shut down. He was staying at his moms then after that night just stayed with me. So... It lead to it. we "conceived" about 2 weeks into his stay xD

This is my favorite episode ever; for your response that was so kind and compassionate and enthusiastic. We do just have to forgive ourselves and deal with what life gives us. What a message for this day in age. And this unsuspecting mom to be and dad. What sweet loving people! And she got what she always wanted, to be a mom!
The mom’s voice is so sweet, too. I could listen to her talk all day. It’s so soothing and her SO is wonderful.

I’m 41 weeks and a day pregnant right now and my aunt just brought home her new baby yesterday. He was a bit of a surprise (emergency foster baby), and even with how excited I am for them, I know I felt terrible yesterday hearing everyone talk about how excited they are that he’s home and such when my son should have been here already.
Can’t imagine it being a total surprise and having them both born on the same day.
My daughter’s brother in law and his wife had their first two children within a few weeks, maybe days? Of my daughter’s first two children. It has created some awkward tension for the brothers when baby brother (my son in law) produced the “first” grandchild... and as you might imagine, my daughter had mixed feelings when they both ended up pregnant at the same time the second time.
Note: that grandma was over the moon !
Yeah, I would have been a bit ehhhhh about it. I was trying for two years to have my daughter, including a miscarriage. My step-niece got accidentally pregnant and had a baby in that time, which was annoying, but then when I finally was pregnant and seemed to be carrying it, my step-sister (step-niece's mom) had an oops baby (20 years after her last kid) that was due only a couple weeks before me. . . And it sucks when you don't want to feel that way but you still do. . .
I was pregnant the same time as one of my best friends at that time. Her husband grew up with my husband. The 3 of them went to college together and then I came along and all 4 of us got along really well. We went on vacations together and constantly did things together.
I remember calling her and telling her I thought I was pregnant. We had just taken a home pregnancy test and it was positive but we were waiting before we announced it to everyone until we saw a doctor. She paused and told me she just took a pregnancy test too and they were doing the same.
My due date was a couple days before hers but she went in a couple days early and was induced. My baby decided to stick around in his warm comfy house. My husband was devastated they had their baby first. It never bothered me so much but he really wanted to be first. A couple days later we had our son.
It was nice having someone going through exactly the same experience at the exact same time. Even though our pregnancies were different. It was just comforting to have someone to talk to. Heck our husbands even ditched us on Valentine’s Day to go to a rock concert. We were both 8.5 months along so she came over and we watched cheesy movies. We didn’t care they went, btw. In fact we encouraged them to go.
These two couples seem super close and they are family. I’m sure there was some underlying feelings of thunder being stolen but I bet in the end it was just really nice to have the support of family and friend in this very unique circumstance.
Oh and I beat her the second time around and had my baby first..... soooo it’s all good😉
Why is it always about "stealing the thunder" in the western countries? I mean can't people be happy for each other? it should be something to celebrate, life's not a competition to grab attention, it should be about spreading love and celebrating life. Bringing a life into this world is such a precious thing why taint it with jealousy and worries about who people would pay more attention to? That is just so petty and vain.

My eldest, now passed daughter and my 2nd eldest daughter had sons on the same day, 7 years apart and all my eldest kept say was " I'm so sorry I had my son on the same day sis!" To me it was a magical time, being the grandma. R.I.P. to my eldest babygirl that passed only a mere 2.5 years ago. I will continue raising the now younger of the two, 11 year old with the love only a mother can supply. 🌹

I had really irregular cycles and had to take 3 months worth of meds to get pregnant with my first. My cycle got really regular after he was born and I had no problems getting pregnant with my other children.

I love your UA-cam shows and discovered you before my son and daughter-in-law started making my 2 amazing grandbabies… Now, I was an 18 year old mom & I just turned 56 last month and I just need to say thank you for all you do mama doctor Jones. I’ll never forget when my son brought my daughter-in-law home 15 years ago and I just knew she would become my daughter-in-law one day. I just knew. Your kids are too young but when you become a grandma many decades from now, you’ll know in your gut when your kids bring home to dinner their “forever person”. I also have Hashimotos and my T4 levels have gone off the charts in pregnancy.
I was actually diagnosed as peri-menopausal a few years ago. I’m not even 35 yet. But I am taking a pretty low dosage of levothyroxine, and for a while my period was normal, but still couldn’t get pregnant. It would be interesting to hear everything from her perspective. My doctors haven’t really given many answers. (I did find out that my egg quality/quantity was poor, but not sure if it had to do with my thyroid)
I have Hashimoto's and I'm currently pregnant. It's definitely possible. I was also on a very low dose of lexothyroxine.
We were TTC for about 2 years (tracking ovulation with test strips) and had decided to take a break when I got pregnant.

I'm a twin cousin! My mom and my dad's sister delivered on the same day. They both knew they were pregnant but we were supposed to be a month apart since my cousin was two weeks early and I was two weeks late
Me and my sister in law had our babies on the same day. I was 3 weeks early and she was 2 weeks over due. We both had a boy. The nurses were confused cause both baby boys had the same last name and she kept asking why are these twins not closer to each other and the other nurse had to explain to her one baby was mine and the other baby belonged to my sister in law lol

I forgot which Christmas special it was, but it was the one when they were putting on the Christmas pageant and they needed a baby. And then, the woman who lost her baby 22 years before that Christmas had a baby. That one got me emotional!

@@16poetisa so in general, I find the first 3 series to be the most enotional. These series were based on the memoirs of real Jenny, and by definition memories from decades ago will remain because they are accompanied by powerful emotion, joy or sadness. So I find the early seasons are the ones which have me ugly crying most. Not to say the newer seasons aren't emotional, but there is something about a real story, that echo of real life that comes through. The 2012 Christmas special has me crying Every. Darn. Time.
Just stumbled across your channel with the cousins being born on the same day. I thought it was fascinating because, fifty four years ago two of my friends married and she was a bit worried because she seldom had periods. Almost a year later he took her to the hospital because of a very bad stomach ache. She delivered a healthy little girl. When people asked my friends admitted that she had given up on losing weight because nothing was working.😂❤

I know my best friend sister never had a menstrual, She keep going to doctor to try to figure out why!! She got preg at 35 and didn't find out she was till 6 months haha but she now has one of the prettiest Lil girls I ever seen in my life!! She thought the where messing with her when she found out she was pregnant I laugh cause I was like miracles happen a few weeks before cause she was so upset about not being a mama!! I couldn't be more happy for them and she has to be one of the best mom I ever seen in my life!! She love that baby like no other!! Thanks for this story it's heart warming!! Miracles happen :)

Thank you your words are a message from heaven for me. My mum died 12 years ago and today would have been her Birthday. I was just saying to my dad yesterday that I felt guilty I didn't push doctors for answers in the month before she died and he said you can only go by what you are told and mum would say the same. When you said the same thing it was like hearing my mum sending me a message thank you so very much God bless you and your family xxxx

As a RN, I love that you explain these shows so people can get an honest scientific understanding of why someone may not know they are pregnant. And your self love messages are great!
