When I was five months pregnant with twins, we were in the middle of moving, and because of some weird loophole in our medical insurance, the new place would not accept the positive pregnancy test from the first doctor’s office (I have zero idea why this was, because they accepted my medical file and all of the ultrasounds). At 5 months, I was HUGE because my twins were each the size of a single baby (born at 35 weeks weighing over 6.5 lbs each), so the looks on the faces of everyone within earshot was priceless when I walked up and was like, “I’m here for a pregnancy test.” The entire room went dead silent. The receptionist couldn’t even speak. Finally she was like, “Sweetie.. I think it’s pretty safe to say that you’re pregnant... and probably pretty close to delivery...” I started laughing so hard, I’m surprised I didn’t pee. Or get the psych ward called on me. That’s what I think about every time I watch these.. 😂🤷♀️🤦♀️
That's so daft! Here in the UK I'm always surprised they don't ask for any evidence at all. Part of me wonders if I'll show up to my first scan at 12 weeks and there just won't be a baby in there because they took my word for it. 😆
"we do the best that we can with the information we have" This helped me recently when my grandma was taken to hospital. I wasn't to know things were worse than they seemed. When the seriousness did become apparent I acted accordingly and took her to A&E. I felt guilty for not doing something sooner, but I remembered Mama Dr Jones' words of wisdom. My grandma is recovering well and will be home in a couple of days.
A similar situation happened with my great grandma. She has Alzheimer’s so we didn’t know that she was sick until she got really bad. We blamed ourselves but had to come to terms with “doing the best you can with the information you have”. Grandma is fine now but it was so difficult to feel that guilt when she was so sick

That reminded me of a nurse I used to work with telling me about this woman presenting at Emergency with horrible abdominal pain. She thought it was appendicitis. Spoiler: she was in labour and didn't know she was pregnant. When she was told, she lost it, screaming that she wasn't pregnant, she's infertile and can't get pregnant, and "I'm gonna die of a ruptured appendix", and yadda yadda yadda. She wasn't a big woman, definitely didn't look pregnant, apparently had no symptoms of pregnancy. She and her husband were in shock.
@@ruzahel6287 - No. Baby was full term but quite small. Some women just don't show much. At 7 months I looked like a beached whale. At 7 months one of my coworkers looked like she'd had a big dinner and had a "food baby". Our kids were about the same size at birth.

First baby, first prenatal appointment my doc saying “well the damage is already done” after I told her that I was on Zoloft. I was devastated. Loved hearing you say we do the best we can.
Dafuq? My ob (Not Dr Jones) prescribed it for my depression when I'd just started my 2nd trimester. He said he'd never seen a baby have any problems related to parental zoloft. My baby is now a healthy, happy 4yo learning her letters and numbers.
I’m sorry to hear that you went through that :( People should never feel bad or shamed for the treatment they take for their own personal mental health, and as a doctor, whoever they were, should be ashamed for pushing the narrative that mental health treatment is bad in any way

Last 3 months I've literally been in pain with sexual desire. It doesn't quit no matter what I do. Uncomfortable. Not nice. Totally physical origin. I do love my husband but boundaries are solid. Return to recovery or I can't be with you. Please...very embarrassing. I did tell my doc and he referred me to counseling which is great. I belong to Al-Anon and have a rich spiritual life. Please...will this subside?(ok I was on methadone for 11 yrs for codeine addiction and went to beautiful rehab 4 yrs ago to get off of it. Methadone ramps down libido...maybe my body is goin wacko in the opposite direction..) Am I nuts?
I love that you tell people we do the best we can with the info we have. I was 20, had lost weight, had my cycle like normal and had zero of the other typical pregnancy symptoms. One day I woke up and had a migraine. I went to the dr and found out I was pregnant, I was on my cycle during this appointment mind you. Because I was on my cycle they did a sonogram and found I was 6 mo. The dr kept harassing me about not coming in sooner, because I apparently needed to be made to feel bad while facing down being a single mom in the early 90s. Literally every appointment why did you not come in sooner. I finally snapped and said why would I have? What symptoms would have brought me in sooner? I went off on him. He stopped asking that question. Thank you for not making people feel bad when they really just don't know
You can most definitely bleed when pregnant but cannot physically have a period or cycle I mean unless you have two functional uteruses and are only pregnant in one. But yea if I was bleeding regularly enough to think it was my period and had no other symptoms I wouldn’t think I was pregnant either, therefore no reason to go in. So wrong of ppl especially drs to just assume you had any reason to know.
Who saw the headline about the woman who didn't know she was pregnant and gave birth to her son prematurely in an airplane bathroom and there just happened to be a doctor and 3 NICU nurses on board who helped keep her and her baby safe until they landed in Hawaii and got her to the hospital? I really want them to make that into a I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant episode and watch Dr. Jones review it.
When I was nearing the end of my pregnancy I conducted the back stage chorus in a Tosca production. There were three nurses in the semi-professional chorus! I felt safe😊!

Yeah it's something for me to think about too. I was told that my grandmother had 'thick blood', and when I was unable to donate blood due to vein collapse as a teen I was told I probably had the same 'thick blood'. I also itch a lot, and esp after a shower, but was diagnosed with eczema as a baby. I get regular blood counts due to other issues so at least if I do develop polycythemia later in life it will get caught early.
@@SevCaswell I would suggest your eczema diagnosis be revisited as many babies have it and outgrow it. Perhaps it's something else now. (Maybe not! I still get eczema, always have, but my daughter for example had it terribly as a baby and then it went away, when it came back a few years later we just assumed it was the same and missed it as an allergy symptom.)
Definitely something to look into. In women, it's usually not as obvious as in men, until women go through menopause. The monthly menses helps to keep the hcg/hct down a bit. But, it doesn't paint the entire picture, as iron studies also need to be taken into consideration. For a diagnoses, it's just a blood test that looks for a specific genetic component.
I know this isn't really how MDJ meant it and it's very silly..... but every time she talks about how it is completely ok to be reserved at first before you get to know your babies I always imagine it as a formal date. Like you are sitting at a nice restaurant with your bebe. You have a glass of wine and bebe bottle of milk. There is a candle in between you two and you have questions prepared. You: So baby what is your favourite topping on a pizza? Baby: .... smiles .... You: Hmmm better than if you said pineapple. I would have thought they switched you at the hospital. So who's your favourite painter? Baby: .............................g....oghg You: Oh you like Van Gogh too! That's great. I think we have a lot in common and we are gonna get along great.
I was told that I would never have kids. Many factors from radiation treatment to a disease of the pituitary gland were against me. So me and my husband decided not to use birth control. Well.... I'm almost 2 months pregnant now! We're shocked but very happy about our little mirical!🤰
When I was in labor with my youngest child (and I totally knew I was pregnant) I was in a teaching hospital. When they told me I could push, I shut my eyes for a minute, and when I opened them again, there was a whole class of nursing students suddenly crowded around me, and you are right, a big crowd is jarring.

Granted my doctor friend is in the UK (Cambridge) but they had to ask consent at any moment when they were med students. Even if they were just 1 student coming in the room with a doctor to do routine exams, they asked. Coincidentally, he's also a Gyne.
My mum has notoriously fast births, she agreed a team could witness my birth. The Dr went to the corridor to get them stating they would be waiting at least 15 minutes. Turned back to walk into room, and boom there I was 🤣 poor students missed it haha
My mom had me and my twin brother when she was 46. She chose to get married later in life and had issues getting pregnant, so it just happened late. My brother and I are very healthy!
I want to thank you! You doing these videos and telling everyone to test is how i found out i was pregnant. I missed my period in feb, i was under a lot of stress and had all of the normal symptoms of it coming. The day it was supposed to come, branches fell through my roof because of freezing rain. I just thought i was still too stressed for it to come even the next month. But watching one of your videos reacting to this show on april 10 i took a test! Im due in late october. Thank you so much. I sit and wonder how long i wouldve went without knowing because i have zero symptoms of being pregnant.
This video usually comes with my time of the month... The fact that it hasn't yet means either my birth control kicked in, or we need to ready ourselves for the next Messiah.
My mom had my brother at 43. She didn't find out until she was almost 20 weeks and had to go to the hospital for something else. She thought she might be going through menopause when her periods stopped.
Those don't even check the HCG level. Electronic pregnancy tests are the same as the non electronic, but instead of looking for the line yourself, the electronic parts checks for the pregnancy line for you and tells you "how far along you are" according to how dark the line is. It's only a waste of money and resources. And it adds to the tons of pollution of our planet since you throw it in the trash with its battery and electronic parts.
Did I miss something,, because I've never seen a urine pregnancy test that does that either. Now, the blood ones we run in the ER will give us a number that correlates to weeks of gestation.
@@Absbabs88 the US no longer sells clearblue week prediction. (Assuming that’s where you are). They only sell regular digital ones that say “pregnant / not pregnant”. But I do see people that use the weeks predictor tests in the UK, Canada and Australia.
With the "telling her she's in labour just from a urine test" part, I'd guess that someone did an exam when she came in, and already *suspected* labour from her symptoms, so when the test came back positive it just confirmed it.
Yeah the one-sided, traumatic memory, ego-centric telling of this show does leave a lot to be desired. MDJ does a remarkable job of not being at all cynical about these people.
Or maybe they tested for amniotic fluid. I had to be induced at 39 weeks because I had a tiny tear in my amniotic sac, we went to the hospital because I had been losing very small amounts of liquid for about 8h and wasn't sure what was going on and I called the hospital and they said to come in. They told me initially my water hadn't broken but they were going to do a chemical test for it a used a swab and tested to for amniotic fluid and it came back positive. They told me they can detect minute amounts with that test and they kept me in observation the rest of the day and about 20h after the dripping started they decided I needed an induction because of the risk of infection. First time giving birth, I had told them clearly I didn't want the epidural and they were lovely, it was a super respected birth despite being induced, it was 6h from start to finish once the contractions started. I really hope the experience is as positive this time around, as I'm 24 weeks along!
I was that person who didn’t use a condom once & got pregnant with my first child (my husband refused to buy more & so did I, because we each said it was the other persons turn & we’re both stubborn). Wouldn’t change a thing, she was the best thing that happened to us ❤️

It's EDS awareness month - Please can you do a video on the Ehler's Danlos Syndromes from an OBGYN perspective? We are more likely to have pregnancy/birth complications, uterine prolapse, endometriosis etc. Our joints are more likely to dislocate during menstruation and pregnancy too. It's a scary condition and there isn't much awareness about the comorbidities of EDS, having a video covering it would mean so much to me and other young women with EDS living with so much uncertainty about their condition 💕 I love your channel 💕
I'm so glad you always mention it's okay not to have that starry-eyed moment when baby is born. I always thought i would, but when my daughter was born 3 months ago I didn't feel that because I was too exhausted. I would have had major mom guilt if I had never heard you say that. But the feeling grows more every day I get to know her 🥰.
One of my best friends was the same way, she also was in labor for 30 hours So She just was like "oh its a baby" Now she loves her daughter more than anything on the planet but at the moment she was like "hm, you look squishy" and fell asleep

I'm not surprised that she got pregnant at 40. My parents were trying for 6 years to have me and my mom got pregnant finally at 40 and was 41 when I was born.
I kept shaking my head every time she said that she couldn't be pregnant because she was 40. What does you age have to do with it? As long as you are menstruating, you can get pregnant, no matter your age.
I get the feeling some wen become complacent in their 40s, think they're less fertile and close to menopause - my mum had a colleague a lot like the woman in this episode, a large woman in her 40s with two teenage kids, cryptic pregnancy, went home from work feeling ill one day, had a baby within 24 hours 👀

Right! My great grandmother gave birth at 46... and got pregnant again when she was 60. She terminated that pregnancy because her doctors didn't believe she would survive birth at her advanced age, but women are amazing creatures.
Doctors can say really thoughtless things. I had a high risk pregnancy and my high risk ob/gyn told me that something they saw in my ultrasound "doubled the chances" my child would have a chromosomal damage. Which scared us out of our wits! It turned out that it moved the chance from .7% to 1.4%. Sure that's double, but COME ON!

Yeah, I do think that sometimes, because doctors are used to the “it’s complicated” aspect of risk and informed consent, they don’t realize that a terrified patient/family member is going to take away only the scariest scenario, no matter how well they try to explain things.
Patients also misunderstand or over simplify things too. I work for a surgeon and it's pretty common for patients getting bad news to feel a bit overwhelmed during an appointment and call to clarify stuff later.
My mom had my youngest brother shortly before turning 44 so I'm always surprised when women in their upper 30s and early 40s think there's no way. This woman had a lot of reasons to not expect it, the I'm 40 doesn't seem like it should be the top of those reasons.

Well I had to undergo IVF at 32 because I have infertility, after we had been trying with no luck for two years, so I mean the famous fertility cliff is real, the average age for a woman's fertility to drop steeply is 35, I guess for every one of us who falls off the cliff in our late twenties there's a woman who's still fairly fertile in her early forties.
Thank you for talking about mums who don't feel that 'starry-eyed' moment. I feel like it's not talked about enough and makes some mums feel really awful when that moment doesn't happen. I didn't feel it for my son when he was born. At the time, as much as I loved him, I didn't think the whole experience was worth it. I felt so awful and like I wasn't cut out to be a mum. It took a good couple weeks for me to feel it was worth it. He's now 20 months old and I would do it all over again 100 times just to have him in my life. I don't feel ashamed of how I felt anymore and now realise it's completely normal.

My mom had me at 39 years old. No issues during the pregnancy, labor or post-birth. You can have a perfectly healthy pregnancy at that age, it's just a little more likely to have issues in comparison to a younger age 🤗
Do you have any issues with her being older? Someone on tiktok made a video saying they hated the fact that their dad was 70 years old and they were so young. The comments were filled with kids saying how old their parents were and how they wished they were younger. That scared me. I’m soon to be 35 and not planning on having kids at least for a couple of years
My mom had me at 36 and my brother at 40, the only complication was that my brother was a couple weeks early. This was in the 80s too when I assume medical treatment for "older" mothers wasn't as advanced.

@@airachica sooooo true! My mom was 22 when she had me and isn't really part of my life anymore even though shes health and 'young'. I would love to have a better relationship with my mom like i see many of my friends have with thier patients that are older. I'm now 39 and pregnant with my second! I have a 3 year old that my mom hasn't bothered to come see in 2 years, corona has nothing to do with it either. Thankfully I have a great mother in law that loves my child sooo much and video calls all the time!
My parents had me at 49 and it’s always cool to see other older couples, idk how my mom would have reacted if it had been a complete surprise like this though 😬
I really like your point about better education helping friends and family be less scared about birth. I really think having siblings born in my teens and my mum being very open and informative about the whole process means I am more comfortable and informed about the prospect of giving birth than a lot of my friends.

I would just like to say thank you for saying it’s ok to be reserved when you first see your baby. I felt horrible after giving birth to my son because I didn’t immediately cry tears of joy like everyone talks about. I love my son more than anything, but in that moment I felt like the worst mom.
I’ve watched a this series for a while now and thought that this is so rare and never really happens until I was in the hospital one day visiting a friend and while I was in the bathroom, a lady rushed in and started screaming bloody murder. When I asked her if I she needed me to call for help, she opened the door and there was a baby swinging from between her legs....I went to go get help and later heard from the security officers that she didn’t know she was pregnant and just thought she had to poop really badly 🤣
My mum was born like that.. although my grandmother knew she was pregnant..but shs didn't knew it was a labour pain..& back in those days people didn't really went to hospital for pregnancy and delivery..so yeah that's how my mother was born.. (my sis & i laugh at this story till date..😆)

Thank you SO much for highlighting the fact that sometimes a good mother doesn't feel a wave of rapturous joy after giving birth! I judged myself harshly for feeling "meh" after the birth of my first child and was ashamed to talk about it. It's my 1 piece of advice I offer to expectant moms. It's okay if you need time!
My mom always says that she didn’t feel an immediate connection when my brother and I were born. She says that later, as we started showing our personalities was when she really felt it
I’m so glad you brought up that fact that it takes time for some mother’s to feel that connection with their babies. When my daughter was born, I had some issues and we needed to do an emergency c section and I didn’t even get to see her or hold her they gave my husband my baby and kicked him out and I passed out. Next thing I remember is being in recovery room and looking at my husband hold our baby girl in his arms. It took about a good 3-4 months to have that connection.. and that’s okay. I couldn’t imagine my life without her.
“If you’re not sure, take a pregnancy test.” 100% yes. Had a pregnancy scare a few months ago, which I’m not sure you can call it a scare cause my fiancé and I would be happy either way. My fiancé and I had recently become sexually active, using protection. But I noticed my period was a few weeks late, so I took a test, which turned out to be negative, and I did get my period again shortly after. If you have any concern that you might be pregnant, just take a test.
I wanna say that my mom was in her late 30s when she had my sister. It's not surprising to me that this woman was able to get pregnant in the first place.
A friend of mine had a surprise pregnancy at 44. I guess we're game until menopause is really settled and in my family that comes at about 50 so... better get with that contraception 😂
Yes, I think we have confused optimal fertility age with potential fertility age. My grandmother had her last son at 44. No effort, just, you know, sex. My son-in-law was born 13 years after his closest sister, when his mom was 46. I'm only surprised when I hear about women getting pregnant when they thought they were well into menopause. And even that occasionally happens.
I also brestfed my firstborn during the second pregnancy, but the milk flow stopped at around 5 months into the pregnancy completely. Before, I had enough milk for my firstborn all the time and he almost didn't eat "normal" food at 20 months old. He just wasn't interested in food, but suddenly startet eating then. So I felt like it was the right time for us to wean either way.

That reminded me of how I confused a UTI for my period. The urgent care doctor was trying to reprimand me for not coming in sooner then 3 days but I was like…. Yeah I didn’t even think this wasnt a period until yesterday. Basically that painful feeling in the urithra you get for infections? That’s what the day before I start bleeding always feels like. And the next day I was bleeding so I assumed what I assumed. THEN the problem with not being able to pee started and that’s when I thought “ohhhhhh no”. And to this day, every month I say “hmmm, period or UTI?” Btw it’s always a period since them.
When I was in labor, the nurse kept making me adjust positions because my baby's heart rate would dip. She told me I didn't need to worry about them coming to check unless I see like 3 or more people come into the room. Not 30 minutes later, I have 5 nurses come into the room staring at the heart rate monitor. Both baby and I ended up being fine, but it really made me nervous seeing so many people coming in at once so I can understand her concern at seeing so many people coming in to talk to her.
I just wanna say, I have wanted to become a medical professional since I was three, and it's changed over the years but because of you and Dr. Mike I'm thinking of becoming a family doctor or a gynecologist! Love your videos as well!
Thanks for talking about how not everyone has a starry-eyed moment when they first give birth. I didn't and my ex made me feel like I was the worst mom in the planet. I was 17 years old and never wanted kids in the first place it took a lot of time for me to get over the post-partum depression as well because I didn't know it was a thing. No one told me when I was pregnant that I could have depression.

It can be tough to balance work and family but there are millions and millions of women who do it everyday. What’s important is you do what your gut tells you to do regardless of the plans you’ve made. Some moms think they will be happiest when they stay at home but they change their mind. That’s okay! Some women think they’ll be happiest once they get back to work and they change their minds. That’s okay too! It might be easiest to get through medical school and have a few years working before having children but guess what?! They get pregnant during school and they do just fine. Your mom has very old school ideas because back when she was young women didn’t realize how strong they and that can have it all. Just do what your heart and gut tells you to do and everything will work out.

So I was 12 weeks post partum with a depo shot so I thought I was super good with BC and I hadn’t had my period since before my 2nd child, but I had a weird feeling like I should take a test just in the back of my mind, and it was positive I had no symptoms and only a weird feeling, come to find out it was a missed miscarriage, I apparently was pregnant at my post partum check up and got my depo shot. And then miscarried about 6 weeks later so I was 9 weeks

I had hyperemesis and was nauseated at 3 weeks and puking at 5 and didn’t stop until 36 weeks when they had to do a c-section because I couldn’t keep *anything* down, even with IV meds, and the baby was losing weight in utero. My husband was shocked at the idea that someone could not know they were pregnant too, lol. Sometimes I think he was more traumatized by the pregnancy than I was. It’s hard to stand by helpless and watch someone you love go through hell. At least I had Phenergan to knock me out some of the time.
I had 0 morning sickness. In fact I was much further along in my pregnancy than I thought because of the lack of symptoms. I went in for my 10 week check up and the Dr. was like..."No...you're not ten weeks, unless there's two babies in there." turns out I was almost 20 weeks.
I seriously really appreciate how you everytime reiterate the fact that not everyone have that immediate connection to their newborn. It really helps, as I didn't myself. I can imagine it has helped a lot of other people as well. You don't often hear that side of how things could go, and it IS normal.

@@RedRoseSeptember22 May I ask, why is that? The ones I’ve seen are all 99% accurate if taken on the day your period is due. And I would think if your period is a week late (and you’re normally regular), you should probably see a doctor, pregnant or not.
@@nyssac2914 that rule of thumb is based on a margin of error for most people. Maybe you're 2 days late, maybe 4. Wait until it's 7 days and you're FOR SURE late. Of course some people have super awesome predictable periods and always know the exact date they'll start. (Not me!) So it depends. I wait weeks and then pay for the early detection tests. Lol. I am that unsure about my cycle.
I feel like here in Germany we have relatively good sex ed. I was already fully educated about birth, sex and pregnancy as a 3rd grader. As 5th grader I knew everything about using protection correctly. The only thing we never really went through in school was the menstrual cycle. But still I'm learning a lot new things here
Echt? I always thought we were much better in Germany...for a start, we call menopause Wechseljahre (Change years) which is a much better description of what happens, and also prepares you for a journey rather than just a fantastical overnight change.

@@sovietspy17 nope, the teacher was a trainee teacher and obviously felt uncomfortable going through this topic with a bunch of hormonal teenagers so we rushed through it. She basically said "Girls bleed once a month when not pregnant. Lesson end" Had to educate myself then. Primary school did the better job there
At the school I went in Canada, we were not taught about Sex until age 12 (before that I was taught by my parents ). The school was acting scared or awkward teaching us about sex. Thankfully I became fully educated but school systems should really make it a priority when they feel the children they are teaching are of appropriate age to teach young boys and girls about sex. It’s a pretty important subject.
When you're talking about young people being terrified and uneducated about labour and birth, that's me. I used to have panic attacks at the thought of getting pregnant, but watching your videos have helped me understand and normalise the pregnancy experience! I appreciate you so much MDJ

Your "didnt know I was pregnant" reaction videos were the only reason I found out I was pregnant prior to my miscarriage. Symptoms were the exact same as my period, I have pcos with irregular periods, and had been told I wouldn't get pregnant naturally. Thank god for cheap pee tests I can take once a week
Thank you for talking about not having an instant connection with a new baby. I had a strong connection with my first right away, but it took a few years to connect with my second. Mentally it was really hard to handle for a long time. I feel closer to her now, it took some patience and a little bit of fake-it-till-you-make-it.

This particular episode made me think of my own mom. She thought she was going through early menopause and surprise, she was pregnant with me. She was considered a high risk pregnancy because of other medical issues and I'm very grateful that we both got the care we needed.
You are amazing, Doc! This being the first video I've seen of yours, you have already provided a ton of information and knowledge. When my sister was pregnant with her first son, I was a wreck. I was terrified every single day that I was going to lose her. The morning that I arrived at the hospital after she gave birth the previous night, I wept in pure joy that she, and my new nephew, had survived. Ten years later, I am STILL SO SCARED of having children.
Just think of how many women have done it in history. And the done it again! That helped me. I had a lovely birth with my first and pregnant again. Although I don’t like being pregnant, lots of women enjoy their pregnancies and in the whole of my life, pregnancy and labour especially make up such a small part of my time on earth!
It's typically not as bad as you think. Once it's over the whole thing fades rapidly. It's very understandable to be afraid of something that is still "hidden" in our society.

I love that you mention that it can be normal not to feel an instant overwhelming connection to your baby. I'm watching this while feeding my 2 month old. Pregnancy and delivery were both filled with complications that tried to kill me. Then she was born and my reaction was like, "oh neat, baby's here." It felt like I was babysitting someone else's child, not like she was mine. I didn't have negative feelings about her, but there was no instant overwhelming connection either. I literally thought back to MDJ talking in other videos about how it took her time to get to know her kids before that connection developed. So, while part of me felt bad and guilty, I gave myself time and now at 8 weeks old, I'm absolutely obsessed with my baby girl.

With my education, I was, of course, given health education. With sex education thrown in there slightly. Most of my education of sex and pregnancy was actually from parenting 101, which I took in high school, and the demonic robot baby I had to deal with. Which my mom killed and lowered my grade btw. I am so grateful for your videos and the internet because I feel like I am well educated and I have had a stand on my life due to being able to say "no I don't want children", and been able to be smart with sex. My first period was mixed with my urine at the age of nine 😂 I still remember how my mom though it was kidney stones and make my family pray for me... It was the most awkward explanation of my life, this episode kind of revived that moment
You should react to the episode "From Heartbeat to Heart Attack" in the future. It's one of my favorites because it shows a family with adopted and biological children.
She briefly mentioned not feeling any movement. But that's always my question too! Like, once an unborn baby reaches a certain size, you can feel them moving around even if you don't show much. My friend was one such baby. So I asked her lots of questions. Her mom was the type to have weird, irregular periods and apprantly, her gall bladder surgery a couple years before had a lot to do with her not feeling movement combined with how my friend settled in the womb. Her mom was 7 months along before her doctor told her she was pregnant and in all that time she felt nothing. She did later, closer to the delivery date. So yeah, certain factors contribute to the mom not feeling movement. 🤷♀️
I constantly get patients that didn't know they were pregnant from teens to older patients and LOTS of pre op patients. So yeah... Not uncommon for my hospital unfortunately
My mother told me that I needed to wean my son before I had my daughter because that’s what they do with cows. I informed her that I wasn’t a cow and my doctor wasn’t worried. I went past my due date, and left the house before my son got up when I was in labor. I really didn’t want to nurse him while I was in labor. Later that day, he came to see me and his new sister. I was able to successfully tandem nurse them for about six months before I weaned him. I was so happy that I had the support of La Leche League to guide me through that process.
What is your take on the nonuplets? I know that news is pretty recent and I don't know how long these episodes take to produce, but watching an Ob's take on it would be interesting.
@@cynthiaevery2801 Nonuplets are nine births in a single pregnancy. This could be the first chance of nonuplets where all babies survive, though there hasn't been an update on them in over a week.

I had a 2 1/2 yr old who was still nursing 1-2 times a day, and I was pregnant. I was a little overweight at the beginning of that pregnancy and I think I only gained 5 lbs. my Dr gave me so much grief, but my baby was born at a healthy weight at 39 weeks. My measurements were always great. It was a perfect delivery, no complications. I was shocked that an OBGYN would have a problem with breastfeeding. They even sent the pediatrician on call to “observe” me breastfeeding my newborn. He wasn’t sure if I would have colostrum or not. He asked me about my religious affiliations (wtf??). I assured him I was not a fundamentalist, I just wasn’t ready to wean my toddler from nursing for comfort. He did wean relatively quickly, and my newborn had no problems being fed.

When I was five months pregnant with twins, we were in the middle of moving, and because of some weird loophole in our medical insurance, the new place would not accept the positive pregnancy test from the first doctor’s office (I have zero idea why this was, because they accepted my medical file and all of the ultrasounds). At 5 months, I was HUGE because my twins were each the size of a single baby (born at 35 weeks weighing over 6.5 lbs each), so the looks on the faces of everyone within earshot was priceless when I walked up and was like, “I’m here for a pregnancy test.” The entire room went dead silent. The receptionist couldn’t even speak. Finally she was like, “Sweetie.. I think it’s pretty safe to say that you’re pregnant... and probably pretty close to delivery...” I started laughing so hard, I’m surprised I didn’t pee. Or get the psych ward called on me. That’s what I think about every time I watch these.. 😂🤷♀️🤦♀️

Lol as a momma of 2 sets of twins I found this to be the funniest thing I have ever heard
"we do the best that we can with the information we have" This helped me recently when my grandma was taken to hospital. I wasn't to know things were worse than they seemed. When the seriousness did become apparent I acted accordingly and took her to A&E. I felt guilty for not doing something sooner, but I remembered Mama Dr Jones' words of wisdom. My grandma is recovering well and will be home in a couple of days.

A similar situation happened with my great grandma. She has Alzheimer’s so we didn’t know that she was sick until she got really bad. We blamed ourselves but had to come to terms with “doing the best you can with the information you have”. Grandma is fine now but it was so difficult to feel that guilt when she was so sick
We tell our patients this all the time in Mental Health, especially to parents who are struggling with coping skulls.
It is great advice for so many situations. I know I feel a lot of guilt over things I can't control. I'm glad your grandma is doing better 💜

That reminded me of a nurse I used to work with telling me about this woman presenting at Emergency with horrible abdominal pain. She thought it was appendicitis. Spoiler: she was in labour and didn't know she was pregnant. When she was told, she lost it, screaming that she wasn't pregnant, she's infertile and can't get pregnant, and "I'm gonna die of a ruptured appendix", and yadda yadda yadda. She wasn't a big woman, definitely didn't look pregnant, apparently had no symptoms of pregnancy. She and her husband were in shock.

Some women just don't show much. At 7 months I looked like a beached whale. At 7 months one of my coworkers looked like she'd had a big dinner and had a "food baby". Our kids were about the same size at birth.

I love that you tell people we do the best we can with the info we have. I was 20, had lost weight, had my cycle like normal and had zero of the other typical pregnancy symptoms. One day I woke up and had a migraine. I went to the dr and found out I was pregnant, I was on my cycle during this appointment mind you. Because I was on my cycle they did a sonogram and found I was 6 mo. The dr kept harassing me about not coming in sooner, because I apparently needed to be made to feel bad while facing down being a single mom in the early 90s. Literally every appointment why did you not come in sooner. I finally snapped and said why would I have? What symptoms would have brought me in sooner? I went off on him. He stopped asking that question. Thank you for not making people feel bad when they really just don't know
You can most definitely bleed when pregnant but cannot physically have a period or cycle I mean unless you have two functional uteruses and are only pregnant in one. But yea if I was bleeding regularly enough to think it was my period and had no other symptoms I wouldn’t think I was pregnant either, therefore no reason to go in. So wrong of ppl especially drs to just assume you had any reason to know.

Who saw the headline about the woman who didn't know she was pregnant and gave birth to her son prematurely in an airplane bathroom and there just happened to be a doctor and 3 NICU nurses on board who helped keep her and her baby safe until they landed in Hawaii and got her to the hospital? I really want them to make that into a I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant episode and watch Dr. Jones review it.

Yeah it's something for me to think about too. I was told that my grandmother had 'thick blood', and when I was unable to donate blood due to vein collapse as a teen I was told I probably had the same 'thick blood'. I also itch a lot, and esp after a shower, but was diagnosed with eczema as a baby. I get regular blood counts due to other issues so at least if I do develop polycythemia later in life it will get caught early.
@@SevCaswell I would suggest your eczema diagnosis be revisited as many babies have it and outgrow it. Perhaps it's something else now. (Maybe not! I still get eczema, always have, but my daughter for example had it terribly as a baby and then it went away, when it came back a few years later we just assumed it was the same and missed it as an allergy symptom.)

Definitely something to look into. In women, it's usually not as obvious as in men, until women go through menopause. The monthly menses helps to keep the hcg/hct down a bit. But, it doesn't paint the entire picture, as iron studies also need to be taken into consideration. For a diagnoses, it's just a blood test that looks for a specific genetic component.
I know this isn't really how MDJ meant it and it's very silly..... but every time she talks about how it is completely ok to be reserved at first before you get to know your babies I always imagine it as a formal date. Like you are sitting at a nice restaurant with your bebe. You have a glass of wine and bebe bottle of milk. There is a candle in between you two and you have questions prepared.

I was told that I would never have kids. Many factors from radiation treatment to a disease of the pituitary gland were against me. So me and my husband decided not to use birth control. Well.... I'm almost 2 months pregnant now! We're shocked but very happy about our little mirical!🤰
When I was in labor with my youngest child (and I totally knew I was pregnant) I was in a teaching hospital. When they told me I could push, I shut my eyes for a minute, and when I opened them again, there was a whole class of nursing students suddenly crowded around me, and you are right, a big crowd is jarring.

Granted my doctor friend is in the UK (Cambridge) but they had to ask consent at any moment when they were med students. Even if they were just 1 student coming in the room with a doctor to do routine exams, they asked. Coincidentally, he's also a Gyne.
My mum has notoriously fast births, she agreed a team could witness my birth. The Dr went to the corridor to get them stating they would be waiting at least 15 minutes. Turned back to walk into room, and boom there I was 🤣 poor students missed it haha
My mom had me and my twin brother when she was 46. She chose to get married later in life and had issues getting pregnant, so it just happened late. My brother and I are very healthy!
I want to thank you! You doing these videos and telling everyone to test is how i found out i was pregnant. I missed my period in feb, i was under a lot of stress and had all of the normal symptoms of it coming. The day it was supposed to come, branches fell through my roof because of freezing rain. I just thought i was still too stressed for it to come even the next month. But watching one of your videos reacting to this show on april 10 i took a test! Im due in late october. Thank you so much. I sit and wonder how long i wouldve went without knowing because i have zero symptoms of being pregnant.

Those don't even check the HCG level. Electronic pregnancy tests are the same as the non electronic, but instead of looking for the line yourself, the electronic parts checks for the pregnancy line for you and tells you "how far along you are" according to how dark the line is. It's only a waste of money and resources. And it adds to the tons of pollution of our planet since you throw it in the trash with its battery and electronic parts.
Did I miss something,, because I've never seen a urine pregnancy test that does that either. Now, the blood ones we run in the ER will give us a number that correlates to weeks of gestation.
@@Absbabs88 the US no longer sells clearblue week prediction. (Assuming that’s where you are). They only sell regular digital ones that say “pregnant / not pregnant”. But I do see people that use the weeks predictor tests in the UK, Canada and Australia.

With the "telling her she's in labour just from a urine test" part, I'd guess that someone did an exam when she came in, and already *suspected* labour from her symptoms, so when the test came back positive it just confirmed it.
I'm thinking it's because the doctors saw a bit of the bloody show in the urine and that's how they knew she was in labor.
Yeah the one-sided, traumatic memory, ego-centric telling of this show does leave a lot to be desired. MDJ does a remarkable job of not being at all cynical about these people.
Yeh or maybe they did an ultrasound to look for kidney stones and found a baby? Idk 🤷♀️
Or maybe they tested for amniotic fluid. I had to be induced at 39 weeks because I had a tiny tear in my amniotic sac, we went to the hospital because I had been losing very small amounts of liquid for about 8h and wasn't sure what was going on and I called the hospital and they said to come in. They told me initially my water hadn't broken but they were going to do a chemical test for it a used a swab and tested to for amniotic fluid and it came back positive. They told me they can detect minute amounts with that test and they kept me in observation the rest of the day and about 20h after the dripping started they decided I needed an induction because of the risk of infection. First time giving birth, I had told them clearly I didn't want the epidural and they were lovely, it was a super respected birth despite being induced, it was 6h from start to finish once the contractions started. I really hope the experience is as positive this time around, as I'm 24 weeks along!

I was that person who didn’t use a condom once & got pregnant with my first child (my husband refused to buy more & so did I, because we each said it was the other persons turn & we’re both stubborn). Wouldn’t change a thing, she was the best thing that happened to us ❤️

It's EDS awareness month - Please can you do a video on the Ehler's Danlos Syndromes from an OBGYN perspective? We are more likely to have pregnancy/birth complications, uterine prolapse, endometriosis etc. Our joints are more likely to dislocate during menstruation and pregnancy too. It's a scary condition and there isn't much awareness about the comorbidities of EDS, having a video covering it would mean so much to me and other young women with EDS living with so much uncertainty about their condition 💕 I love your channel 💕

I always thought i would, but when my daughter was born 3 months ago I didn't feel that because I was too exhausted. I would have had major mom guilt if I had never heard you say that. I'm not surprised that she got pregnant at 40. My parents were trying for 6 years to have me and my mom got pregnant finally at 40 and was 41 when I was born.
I kept shaking my head every time she said that she couldn't be pregnant because she was 40. What does you age have to do with it? As long as you are menstruating, you can get pregnant, no matter your age.
I get the feeling some wen become complacent in their 40s, think they're less fertile and close to menopause - my mum had a colleague a lot like the woman in this episode, a large woman in her 40s with two teenage kids, cryptic pregnancy, went home from work feeling ill one day, had a baby within 24 hours 👀

Right! My great grandmother gave birth at 46... and got pregnant again when she was 60. She terminated that pregnancy because her doctors didn't believe she would survive birth at her advanced age, but women are amazing creatures.

I think that the scary comments are given by TLC screen writers rather than the doctors.
Doctors can say really thoughtless things. I had a high risk pregnancy and my high risk ob/gyn told me that something they saw in my ultrasound "doubled the chances" my child would have a chromosomal damage. Which scared us out of our wits! It turned out that it moved the chance from .7% to 1.4%. Sure that's double, but COME ON!

Yeah, I do think that sometimes, because doctors are used to the “it’s complicated” aspect of risk and informed consent, they don’t realize that a terrified patient/family member is going to take away only the scariest scenario, no matter how well they try to explain things.
Patients also misunderstand or over simplify things too. I work for a surgeon and it's pretty common for patients getting bad news to feel a bit overwhelmed during an appointment and call to clarify stuff later.
My mom had my youngest brother shortly before turning 44 so I'm always surprised when women in their upper 30s and early 40s think there's no way. This woman had a lot of reasons to not expect it, the I'm 40 doesn't seem like it should be the top of those reasons.

Well I had to undergo IVF at 32 because I have infertility, after we had been trying with no luck for two years, so I mean the famous fertility cliff is real, the average age for a woman's fertility to drop steeply is 35, I guess for every one of us who falls off the cliff in our late twenties there's a woman who's still fairly fertile in her early forties.
I've known so many women who have become unexpectedly pregnant and had babies in their 40's. The oldest was 47.
Thank you for talking about mums who don't feel that 'starry-eyed' moment. I feel like it's not talked about enough and makes some mums feel really awful when that moment doesn't happen. I didn't feel it for my son when he was born. At the time, as much as I loved him, I didn't think the whole experience was worth it. I felt so awful and like I wasn't cut out to be a mum. It took a good couple weeks for me to feel it was worth it. He's now 20 months old and I would do it all over again 100 times just to have him in my life. I don't feel ashamed of how I felt anymore and now realise it's completely normal.

My mom had me at 39 years old. No issues during the pregnancy, labor or post-birth. You can have a perfectly healthy pregnancy at that age, it's just a little more likely to have issues in comparison to a younger age 🤗

Do you have any issues with her being older? Someone on tiktok made a video saying they hated the fact that their dad was 70 years old and they were so young. The comments were filled with kids saying how old their parents were and how they wished they were younger. That scared me. I’m soon to be 35 and not planning on having kids at least for a couple of years
My mom had me at 36 and my brother at 40, the only complication was that my brother was a couple weeks early. This was in the 80s too when I assume medical treatment for "older" mothers wasn't as advanced.

I would just like to say thank you for saying it’s ok to be reserved when you first see your baby. I felt horrible after giving birth to my son because I didn’t immediately cry tears of joy like everyone talks about. I love my son more than anything, but in that moment I felt like the worst mom.
I’ve watched a this series for a while now and thought that this is so rare and never really happens until I was in the hospital one day visiting a friend and while I was in the bathroom, a lady rushed in and started screaming bloody murder. When I asked her if I she needed me to call for help, she opened the door and there was a baby swinging from between her legs....I went to go get help and later heard from the security officers that she didn’t know she was pregnant and just thought she had to poop really badly 🤣
My mum was born like that.. although my grandmother knew she was pregnant..but shs didn't knew it was a labour pain..& back in those days people didn't really went to hospital for pregnancy and delivery..so yeah that's how my mother was born.. (my sis & i laugh at this story till date..😆)

Thank you SO much for highlighting the fact that sometimes a good mother doesn't feel a wave of rapturous joy after giving birth! I judged myself harshly for feeling "meh" after the birth of my first child and was ashamed to talk about it. It's my 1 piece of advice I offer to expectant moms. It's okay if you need time!

I’m so glad you brought up that fact that it takes time for some mother’s to feel that connection with their babies. When my daughter was born, I had some issues and we needed to do an emergency c section and I didn’t even get to see her or hold her they gave my husband my baby and kicked him out and I passed out. Next thing I remember is being in recovery room and looking at my husband hold our baby girl in his arms. It took about a good 3-4 months to have that connection.. and that’s okay. I couldn’t imagine my life without her.

“If you’re not sure, take a pregnancy test.” 100% yes. Had a pregnancy scare a few months ago, which I’m not sure you can call it a scare cause my fiancé and I would be happy either way. My fiancé and I had recently become sexually active, using protection. But I noticed my period was a few weeks late, so I took a test, which turned out to be negative, and I did get my period again shortly after. If you have any concern that you might be pregnant, just take a test.

Yes, I think we have confused optimal fertility age with potential fertility age. My grandmother had her last son at 44. No effort, just, you know, sex. My son-in-law was born 13 years after his closest sister, when his mom was 46. I'm only surprised when I hear about women getting pregnant when they thought they were well into menopause. And even that occasionally happens.

I breastfed my first baby all the way through pregnancy #2.
I also brestfed my firstborn during the second pregnancy, but the milk flow stopped at around 5 months into the pregnancy completely. Before, I had enough milk for my firstborn all the time and he almost didn't eat "normal" food at 20 months old. He just wasn't interested in food, but suddenly startet eating then. So I felt like it was the right time for us to wean either way.

That reminded me of how I confused a UTI for my period.
The urgent care doctor was trying to reprimand me for not coming in sooner then 3 days but I was like…. Yeah I didn’t even think this wasnt a period until yesterday.
Basically that painful feeling in the urithra you get for infections? That’s what the day before I start bleeding always feels like. And the next day I was bleeding so I assumed what I assumed. THEN the problem with not being able to pee started and that’s when I thought “ohhhhhh no”.
And to this day, every month I say “hmmm, period or UTI?”
Btw it’s always a period since them.
When I was in labor, the nurse kept making me adjust positions because my baby's heart rate would dip. She told me I didn't need to worry about them coming to check unless I see like 3 or more people come into the room. Not 30 minutes later, I have 5 nurses come into the room staring at the heart rate monitor. Both baby and I ended up being fine, but it really made me nervous seeing so many people coming in at once so I can understand her concern at seeing so many people coming in to talk to her.
And I will never stop laughing at that corny joke, every time one of these is posted during my period

I was 17 years old and never wanted kids in the first place it took a lot of time for me to get over the post-partum depression as well because I didn't know it was a thing. No one told me when I was pregnant that I could have depression.

It can be tough to balance work and family but there are millions and millions of women who do it everyday. What’s important is you do what your gut tells you to do regardless of the plans you’ve made. Some moms think they will be happiest when they stay at home but they change their mind. That’s okay! Some women think they’ll be happiest once they get back to work and they change their minds. That’s okay too! It might be easiest to get through medical school and have a few years working before having children but guess what?! They get pregnant during school and they do just fine. Your mom has very old school ideas because back when she was young women didn’t realize how strong they and that can have it all. Just do what your heart and gut tells you to do and everything will work out.

So I was 12 weeks post partum with a depo shot so I thought I was super good with BC and I hadn’t had my period since before my 2nd child, but I had a weird feeling like I should take a test just in the back of my mind, and it was positive I had no symptoms and only a weird feeling, come to find out it was a missed miscarriage, I apparently was pregnant at my post partum check up and got my depo shot. And then miscarried about 6 weeks later so I was 9 weeks

I had hyperemesis and was nauseated at 3 weeks and puking at 5 and didn’t stop until 36 weeks when they had to do a c-section because I couldn’t keep *anything* down, even with IV meds, and the baby was losing weight in utero.
My husband was shocked at the idea that someone could not know they were pregnant too, lol. Sometimes I think he was more traumatized by the pregnancy than I was. It’s hard to stand by helpless and watch someone you love go through hell. At least I had Phenergan to knock me out some of the time.

I had 0 morning sickness. In fact I was much further along in my pregnancy than I thought because of the lack of symptoms. I went in for my 10 week check up and the Dr. was like..."No...you're not ten weeks, unless there's two babies in there." turns out I was almost 20 weeks.
I seriously really appreciate how you everytime reiterate the fact that not everyone have that immediate connection to their newborn. It really helps, as I didn't myself. I can imagine it has helped a lot of other people as well. You don't often hear that side of how things could go, and it IS normal.

@@nyssac2914 that rule of thumb is based on a margin of error for most people. Maybe you're 2 days late, maybe 4. Wait until it's 7 days and you're FOR SURE late. Of course some people have super awesome predictable periods and always know the exact date they'll start. (Not me!) So it depends. I wait weeks and then pay for the early detection tests. Lol. I am that unsure about my cycle.

I feel like here in Germany we have relatively good sex ed. I was already fully educated about birth, sex and pregnancy as a 3rd grader. As 5th grader I knew everything about using protection correctly. The only thing we never really went through in school was the menstrual cycle.

Echt? I always thought we were much better in Germany...for a start, we call menopause Wechseljahre (Change years) which is a much better description of what happens, and also prepares you for a journey rather than just a fantastical overnight change.

Primary school did the better job there
At the school I went in Canada, we were not taught about Sex until age 12 (before that I was taught by my parents ). The school was acting scared or awkward teaching us about sex. Thankfully I became fully educated but school systems should really make it a priority when they feel the children they are teaching are of appropriate age to teach young boys and girls about sex. It’s a pretty important subject.
I personally would not consider that anywhere close to age-appropriate for my child.

Your "didnt know I was pregnant" reaction videos were the only reason I found out I was pregnant prior to my miscarriage. Symptoms were the exact same as my period, I have pcos with irregular periods, and had been told I wouldn't get pregnant naturally. Thank god for cheap pee tests I can take once a week
Thank you for talking about not having an instant connection with a new baby. I had a strong connection with my first right away, but it took a few years to connect with my second. Mentally it was really hard to handle for a long time. I feel closer to her now, it took some patience and a little bit of fake-it-till-you-make-it.

I was almost a "I didn't know I was pregnant" person. I found out I was pregnant literally yesterday at 28 weeks
Was it a wanted pregnancy?
This particular episode made me think of my own mom. She thought she was going through early menopause and surprise, she was pregnant with me. She was considered a high risk pregnancy because of other medical issues and I'm very grateful that we both got the care we needed.
You are amazing, Doc! This being the first video I've seen of yours, you have already provided a ton of information and knowledge. When my sister was pregnant with her first son, I was a wreck. I was terrified every single day that I was going to lose her. The morning that I arrived at the hospital after she gave birth the previous night, I wept in pure joy that she, and my new nephew, had survived. Ten years later, I am STILL SO SCARED of having children.

Just think of how many women have done it in history. And the done it again! That helped me. I had a lovely birth with my first and pregnant again. Although I don’t like being pregnant, lots of women enjoy their pregnancies and in the whole of my life, pregnancy and labour especially make up such a small part of my time on earth!
Or you could adopt. Plenty of children need good loving homes. Whatever works best for you.
It's typically not as bad as you think. Once it's over the whole thing fades rapidly. It's very understandable to be afraid of something that is still "hidden" in our society.
I think this is the first time ever that I can understand the person not knowing that that they were pregnant.
Hi MDJ! I just graduated EMT school, im about to sign up for my national exam, and go into paramedic school in the fall. We were told that OB and Pedis are big on the exam. I remember one of these videos you were impressed with the EMS provider's actions and I was wondering if you could make a video on what you think would be best for EMS providers to know and do for pregnancy and delivery in the back of a rescue (or the patients house) Thank you!
I love that you mention that it can be normal not to feel an instant overwhelming connection to your baby.
I'm watching this while feeding my 2 month old. Pregnancy and delivery were both filled with complications that tried to kill me. Then she was born and my reaction was like, "oh neat, baby's here." It felt like I was babysitting someone else's child, not like she was mine. I didn't have negative feelings about her, but there was no instant overwhelming connection either. I literally thought back to MDJ talking in other videos about how it took her time to get to know her kids before that connection developed. So, while part of me felt bad and guilty, I gave myself time and now at 8 weeks old, I'm absolutely obsessed with my baby girl.

With my education, I was, of course, given health education. With sex education thrown in there slightly. Most of my education of sex and pregnancy was actually from parenting 101, which I took in high school, and the demonic robot baby I had to deal with. Which my mom killed and lowered my grade btw. I am so grateful for your videos and the internet because I feel like I am well educated and I have had a stand on my life due to being able to say "no I don't want children", and been able to be smart with sex.

My first period was mixed with my urine at the age of nine 😂 I still remember how my mom though it was kidney stones and make my family pray for me... It was the most awkward explanation of my life, this episode kind of revived that moment
You should react to the episode "From Heartbeat to Heart Attack" in the future. It's one of my favorites because it shows a family with adopted and biological children.

She briefly mentioned not feeling any movement. But that's always my question too! Like, once an unborn baby reaches a certain size, you can feel them moving around even if you don't show much.
My friend was one such baby. So I asked her lots of questions. Her mom was the type to have weird, irregular periods and apprantly, her gall bladder surgery a couple years before had a lot to do with her not feeling movement combined with how my friend settled in the womb.
Her mom was 7 months along before her doctor told her she was pregnant and in all that time she felt nothing.
She did later, closer to the delivery date.
So yeah, certain factors contribute to the mom not feeling movement. 🤷♀️

I constantly get patients that didn't know they were pregnant from teens to older patients and LOTS of pre op patients. So yeah... Not uncommon for my hospital unfortunately
My mother told me that I needed to wean my son before I had my daughter because that’s what they do with cows. I informed her that I wasn’t a cow and my doctor wasn’t worried. I went past my due date, and left the house before my son got up when I was in labor. I really didn’t want to nurse him while I was in labor. Later that day, he came to see me and his new sister. I was able to successfully tandem nurse them for about six months before I weaned him. I was so happy that I had the support of La Leche League to guide me through that process.
What is your take on the nonuplets? I know that news is pretty recent and I don't know how long these episodes take to produce, but watching an Ob's take on it would be interesting.

@@cynthiaevery2801 Nonuplets are nine births in a single pregnancy. This could be the first chance of nonuplets where all babies survive, though there hasn't been an update on them in over a week.
My take is dear God I hope that woman has a strong and active supportive community around her. Twins is difficult, nine sounds literally impossible!
@@Rose-jz6sx That and, I hope most of them don't have serious problems at birth because of too-low birth weight, breathing issues, etc. Scary.
And ... oh my gosh. Nine! Crazy... and talk about needing a good, solid support system around you, in person!
I had a 2 1/2 yr old who was still nursing 1-2 times a day, and I was pregnant. I was a little overweight at the beginning of that pregnancy and I think I only gained 5 lbs. my Dr gave me so much grief, but my baby was born at a healthy weight at 39 weeks. My measurements were always great.
It was a perfect delivery, no complications. I was shocked that an OBGYN would have a problem with breastfeeding.
They even sent the pediatrician on call to “observe” me breastfeeding my newborn. He wasn’t sure if I would have colostrum or not. He asked me about my religious affiliations (wtf??). I assured him I was not a fundamentalist, I just wasn’t ready to wean my toddler from nursing for comfort.
He did wean relatively quickly, and my newborn had no problems being fed.

Season 6 episode 8 covers some of the issues of the pill when it first came out (warning...very sad one), season 8 episode 5 has and interesting story of a lady who is externally female but internally Male and also they have just started cervical cancer screenings so that could be interesting as well...I love all your react videos though!!
