I'd kinda like to hear about that lady with genetic chimerism who failed a maternity test for all 3 of her kids but she was in fact their mother. That was interesting. Pretty sad in the middle but things finally worked out.
I had a doctor once tell me when I was starting a new medication "You can't get pregnant while taking this." I clarified with her what she actually meant, which was that I should take every precaution to not get pregnant while taking it because if I did get pregnant, the fetus could develop very serious side effects. That is a really important thing for medical professionals to keep in mind -- how they word information matters. It might seem obvious to them what they actually mean when they say things like that, but it isn't always obvious to their patients.
I had a similar experience, except I didn't question what the doctor meant. I wasn't particularly concerned since I wasn't doing anything that could result in pregnancy though. I discovered the misunderstanding when the _pharmacist_ explained it properly.
Why do they word it like that? I would totally understand this sentence as "this medication will make you unable to get pregnant". They should say "you mustn't get pregnant" - same number of words, no ambiguity.
Gosh, you’d think they’d be trained better to say it correctly. Like... how much harder is it to say “I strongly recommend against you getting pregnant while on this medication”?? Like... that’s just SO much clearer. 🤦🏻♀️
@@bajonista I think you meant to reply to OP, but I completely agree. In my case the doctor said, "You won't be able to get pregnant while on this medication." What I heard: "It's birth control in case someone tries to put a baby in me. Bonus!" What she meant: "I assume you will want to get pregnant since you have a uterus even though you've never expressed this to me and it will be dangerous to do that while taking this medication so make sure you don't have unprotected intercourse."
This is why I decided against being an US tech. Lol. I would have been that dude every time. My poker face is baaaaad. Lol. That poor dude. Used to finding bleeds and such and finds a little person instead.
Considering so many men leave their wives when they find out their wife has cancer or something, I'm not surprised she reacted that way. I'm glad she has someone who truly loves and cares for her.
A disability like this can dramatically change how a person lives there life, and what their partner has to contribute. It's hard, especially if the relationship started before the disability. It also doesn't help that our society measures the value of a person based on how much they can contribute. It's something that i face a lot too, since my partner is still with me, and helping me, despite how my disability has changed throughout our relationship.
My brother was born at 32 weeks and we called him "the ugly purple cheesy thing that came out of mommy's tummy". My mother wasn't a fan of that name so we went with Joe.
Haha it's okay when my daughter was born I looked at her she looked like an angry purple potato haha everyone was like you'll see her and she will be beautiful and I'll I see was that grumpy potato 🤣 she's adorable now lol
🤣 my son has suggested we call his sibling Penis Jr. The baby hasn't been born yet but I don't think we will. He's still confidant we'll come around...siblings are a trip.
Wow. This is unquestionably the most incredible story I've seen in this video series. This woman had not one but TWO emergency hospital experiences where she woke up from anesthesia and learned that her life had been permanently, irrevocably altered. I am in awe of Alicia! She is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit when pushed to its limits. And such a wonderfully loving and supportive partner she has in Cornelius. That precious Miracle Anne is one brave little fighter, too! I think my heart grew a few sizes watching this ❤
I don't know what's more shocking: waking up to find your leg is gone, or being told you're about to deliver a baby when you were sure that you weren't pregnant.
I was born at 27 weeks and was two pounds at birth I appreciate them showing a preemie story. I have cerebral palsy as a result of a prolapsed cord and prematurity and I would love to see a story where the baby has CP or another long term disability as a result of complications. I often find a lot of the media about preemies is ".....and now they're perfectly healthy, happily ever after, the end!" It makes me feel like those of us with long term disabilities are somehow "failed preemies", when in reality, we're success stories because we survived when it wasn't a sure thing that we would. That being said I also really liked that this episode showcased a disabled mother. Disabled people can be parents!
Currently 30wks pregnant with a baby who already outweighs your birth weight. Just came here to say you're right. Your life is a miracle and I'm glad you made it! Talk about being a fighter from day 1 🥊🥊
Your Accomplishment To Make It To Adulthood Is No Small Feat! 💜 Your Successful Preemie Birth Should Very Much Be Looked At As A Happily Ever After!! 🥰
Dr. Mike next week: “So a lot of you have been asking what kind of medicine people are prescribed after getting an amputation and I’m a little concerned-“
As a disabled person I’m really happy to see the disability rep in this episode! Many people unfairly assume that disabled people cannot be good parents but that is clearly untrue
mte! also ngl at the beginning of this i suspected maybe her not knowing was a result of medical ableism, because a lot of us get assumed to not be sexually active or can't be sexually active even in relationships (i've had nurses just skip those questions with a laugh and a "of course you aren't pregnant or couldn't become pregnant!) but i'm glad as i'm watching that it seems that wasn't the case for her lol
My daughter is nearly 25 now. Still seems like yesterday she was brought into the world! I barely survived carrying her (massive nausea the whole pregnancy, was 86lbs after I had her, and nausea continued 6-7 months after delivery), and I'm a proud Deaf mom with a disability myself, so kudos for this mama taking this in stride and enjoying mommyhood! I've worked with so many moms with disabilities who doubt themselves, and help them figure out the logistics of being a parent (every disability is as unique as we are!) and help them decide the best way to be their own best voices in delivery and parenting, and no two moms are alike. It's so great to see other moms with disabilities on this channel, and in a positive light!
I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure last year. After seeing my OBGYN, Endocrinologist, and a fertility specialist, I was told countless times I would not be able to conceive naturally, that I would need to have an egg donor and do IVF. My boss, who was a Urologist that also took interest in hormone therapy, was the only one who said “challenge accepted, I bet we can get you pregnant within the year!” Sure enough, after only 2 rounds of hormones, I am now 38 weeks pregnant and scheduled for a c-section this weekend!!!!!! I couldn’t be more excited and blessed!
I’m in the same boat I was told last year the same thing if you don’t mind me asking what hormones were you on I’m possibly considering trying to get pregnant again but I’m in early ovarian failure
@@preschamcdowell8262 i was on BioTE. They are little pellets that was inserted and your body absorbs them over about a 3 month timeframe. I had both estrogen and testosterone inserted, as well as taking a prescription progesterone. Not all doctors do them, so you’ll have to go to the BioTE website to find a participating clinic in your area. But honestly I’m glad I tried hormone therapy first before attempting anything else. I was not expecting to get pregnant when I did, I more started it to feel better. I was having some pretty intense menopause symptoms. I hope you find what works for you. You’ll feel so much better once you find the right treatment plan!
@@morganglennan2550 thank you so much. I just started estrogen and progesterone about 2-3months ago but still not feeling the best we are doing blood work next month to see what my levels are. Thanks again
Thats awesome. Congrats. I have the same thing. Unfortunately cant get pregnant. Tried for 8 yrs. Too broke to do ivf dont qualify for adoption. So im screwed.
When I was 14 I was having long, heavy, incredibly painful periods. My doctor sent me to have an ultrasound, and I had an ovarian cyst around the size of a golf ball. We don't know how big it was because when the tech tried to size it, it ruptured. The poor tech turned ghostly pale, then mumbled, "ummmmmm... I'll be right back..." and quietly walked to the door. Once he was out, though, we heard him running for help! It was terrifying at the time, but in retrospect it's hilarious! Turns out I had severe endometriosis. I had surgery to clean up some of the endo lesions, had my son at 20, went into premature ovarian failure at 26, and had a hysterectomy at 28. Worked out beautifully for me. 😄
Aw he was trying not to freak you out (even if it didn’t quite work). It’s funny imagining a tech walking calmly out of the room and then as soon as the door shuts, he books it! Glad you ended up okay!
@@andybee1381 It was so scary at the time, wondering just what was bad enough for him to go running! On the US screen it looked... Well, like an explosion! The doctor in charge explained what happened, and that while it hurt, it wasn't a huge deal. It was just the tech's first time seeing that happen. 😄
I had a cyst rupture just randomly, while at home...wish I had known, it's not exactly life threatening back then - I had a major freak out, thinking I would die from internal bleeding or stuff! Glad, you had your baby early and everything worked out for you. I'm lucky, in that I endet up not wanting to have a kid - because by the time most women get around to it, I already wouldn't have been able to, anymore.
I’m glad you think it turned out well haha! I would be saying it was a nightmare, though not the part where you had your child, just all the things around that.
5:18 "Y'all go and ask Doctor Mike what medicine she would have been on" is the best line ever. I adore you both and I love the little shout outs you give each other in your videos 🥰
I was an ugly premature baby. My mom’s first words when she saw me was that I looked like ET. I’m a twin and My sister had a congenital heart defect so they didn’t know my mom was pregnant with twins. Because of the way we were situated they could see my sister but only hear my heartbeat since her’s was so low. It wasn’t until 30 minutes before her c-section did they find out there were two of us. I was about half the size of my sister and my arms were locked into strange positions. I always say even in the womb I gave my sister everything. I was so small I easily fit into my dad’s hand and weighed 2lbs 8oz.
That sounds similar to my twin nephews (now 39). Their heartbeats were always in sync, so the doctor had no idea until the night they were born. He did an xray to see if maybe the baby was older, because she was HUGE for 32 weeks. My mom was a nurse and the second the doctor put the xray on the board, Mom started singing, "Do you see what I see?" Took him another minute, then he realized there were two of them.
I'm 30weeks along with a baby who already outweighs your birth weight. I just came here to say, I'm glad you're still here with us. Hope your sis made it as well. 💕
You’re lucky, my parents knew they were having twins but they didn’t know until about 5 weeks before due date that I was getting all the nutrients and he was incredibly small, had we not been C-sectioned out prematurely he probably wouldn’t have made it through a natural birth. My boyfriend likes to joke as well that he prefers the pronouns “they” as he actually did absorb his twin in the womb 😂
My maternal grandparents had been courting for less than a month when my grandfather was in a motorcycle accident that resulted in some pretty severe damage to his right leg. It wasn't amputated, but he had one leg shorter than the other (and the procedure to correct that didn't exist yet) and walked with a cane the rest of his life. My grandmother stuck by him through his long hospital stay and they had five children together, staying deeply in love until they were separated when my grandfather died at 79 years old. :) Another lovely story for all of you of romance persisting through adversity like in this case.
Similar story with my grandparents. Grandpa got polio a few years after they married, and was in bed for about a year before he could get around on crutches. Grandma took care of him and their toddler on a waitress salary until he was able to get around again. He was a farmer but couldn't do that anymore, so got into jeweler's school and watch repair where he could sit down for work. He made a good living for them until cancer took grandma; they were married about 30 years. Grandpa lived another 30+ years and still seemed "married" to her even though she was gone. Grandma died before I was born, but I always loved the love, tenderness, and appreciation grandpa would speak of with her 💕
As a kid (like 9-10 years old), this show was my guilty pleasure! I would watch it after school in my room. My parents didn't mind, though when they came in, I would immediately change the channel to cartoons due to embarrassment lol
same, I loved it. My mom also watched a lot of TV shows about birth AND she got pregnant when I was 9, so I knew more about pregnancy than some adults I've met.
When I was in high school I worked at Carter's (the baby clothes store), and the preemie parents/grandparents are by far the most memorable customers. Helping them find preemie onesies or a take-home outfit is so special. (Also there's always preemie stuff on clearance. If you have a preemie and you're on a budget, you can probably find bodysuits for like $3 apiece)
I know this is an old comment, but thanks for the heads up! I'm looking for a coming home outfit for my upcoming baby and wondered where to look for tiny clothes! ❤
That is a gorgeous baby. My heart goes out to this woman, she had trauma after trauma, to find out she was having a baby after being told she was not pregnant is just mind boggling.
Currently 35 weeks pregnant.... as a nurse my mind goes to the worst of every situation! Love Mama Dr Jones videos so much! Informative factual yet calming! I love my OB Dr wouldn’t trade him for the world but having Mama Dr Jones catch my baby would be awesome 🤣🤣
It’s because those of us in healthcare have all the crap happen to us. I’m 17 weeks and a surgical nurse practitioner. I’m just assuming something terrible will happen. Even my OB said all the crap happens to people in healthcare. So 👍
What I love more about this series is catching a glimpse of Dr. Jones'd beautiful heart. She is such and empathic and caring healthcare professional. Her patients are lucky to have her. ❤️
You almost never make me cry, but this woman's birth story has me in tears even before the end of the video. Thank goodness Miracle Anne is alright. And you're right, she was beautiful even as a neonate. My own daughter born at 31 weeks was bigger at 4 lbs, but really not a pretty baby at all.
"When in doubt take a pregnancy test" Now I'm just picturing a cis man "I mean, I don't know why my stomach hurts, I guess I need to take a pregnancy test"
@@laur-unstagenameactuallyca1587 of course it's better for a man to do a self check on his testes (or his partner! ;) ) just like a woman should periodically check her breasts. But Testicular Cancer is one of the few things that causes a production of HCG, so if a man ever takes a pregnancy test a joke, it might not end up being a joke in the end.
My cousin was sure she couldn’t get pregnant because she had CF. Her doctors told her it was basically impossible (I can’t recall the specific numbers she was told but it was very very very unlikely) and she had unprotected intercourse for years and nothing but sure enough she had her son in 2014. He’s a very happy healthy baby boy but unfortunately he did lose his mom 2 years ago. This is a HUGE reason why I always say unless you’ve had a hysterectomy, there’s still a chance (no matter how slim) that you can get pregnant.
@@oliviamaslyn9107 yes unfortunately she passed in 2018. Almost currently exactly at her 2 year death anniversary too. I miss her dearly but she suffered for 25 years from CF so I’m glad she isn’t in pain anymore.
My mom used to tell her Doctor when she was pregnant. After one of the pregnancy tests were negative and she was actually pregnant, he listened to her. She always knew because she always had severe Hyperemesis Gravidarum the whole pregnancy that got worse with each pregnancy. She usually had to spend some time in the hospital on IV fluids and looked emaciated by the time she had each baby. She had a bump, but that's it. Her cheeks would be sunken and she always weighed less at 9 months than she did before she got pregnant. Since I am the oldest, I caused her the least amount of sickness, but she was still under 100lbs when I was born. I ended up with the preemies even though I was overdue because I was so small.
I went through something traumatic, everyone thought my partner would just leave, he didn't, we have since separated but the amount of support and love I got was just... Amazing, something I'll always hold close to me
Speaking as a preemie (24 weeks gestation) I can confirm Doctor Jones, that we are not beautiful a birth. I looked like a cross between a frog and a piece of meat. As young adults however...
It's just so amazing, that not only can we keep preemies that young alive - they actually have a decent chance at growing up without lasting damage. How amazing is that? I mean, babies are little miracle anyway, but you guys?
I whole heartedly disagree, a preemie is absolutely beautiful, I lost my baby 2 months into my pregnancy, I would have been over the moon if my baby ended up being a premature baby because that would have been better than what actually happened. I'd rather my baby in my arms alive and being kept alive and ending up thriving, then what I've (and many many other people) been threw.
@@brenidk5566 I'm so sorry about what you've been through, but that doesn't make preemies pleasant to look at... I personally find all children under the age of 10 absolutely disgusting and looking at even healthy babies literally makes me feel sick (partly from anxiety) and the experiences of a stranger don't change that It's very sad the pain you've been through but don't invalidate other people's experiences and perspectives using your own
I had a baby at 31 weeks just two weeks ago and I can't even imagine being as strong as Alicia. Car accident, emergency c section, premature baby... She's overcome so much and I'm freaking crying my heart out at my desk trying to understand the strength all of that took. What an amazing person!
I think mama Dr. Jones AND doctor mike should watch one of these together. Perhaps 1 from both sides of medicine. And "famously entertaining" SO TRUE! thanks for doing these.
This show is entirely about Mama Doctor Jones' specialty though. They should watch something like Grey's Anatomy together and pick an episode that has both an OBGYN story and a non-OBGYN story so they can contribute equally.
Cornelius is a wonderful man. What true love they have for them to talk about each other like that. Shows what prevailing through your hardships together does!
As a fellow preemie mom I found it annoying to hear the narrator say Miracle's "weight is still low" at 4 months because they don't specify if that's for her corrected age or actual age 😣
for 4 months actual age it's good - for 4 months adjusted (6 months actual) it's small, but probably better than 2lb 11oz is at 31 weeks - so either way the baby is doing good.
They definitely could've (and should've) phrased it in a far less....accusatory way. "Although Miracle still might be quite small weight-wise, she has been nonetheless been meeting all of the other average benchmarks for babies her age" or something to that effect -- circle back to the positive -- tiny yet healthy!! As we know, that happens -- even amongst full-term babies.
she actually doesn't look that small this coming from a mom who had 9 lb babies at birth that gained a pound a week. miricle Ann looks bigger than 9lbs and she holds herself very well even if she is two months corrected age 9 lbs is a bit small but I wonder if the parents are a little small.
I just wanted to say we started trying to conceive about 5 weeks ago and during that time I have found and binge watched all of Your videos. I absolutely love your channel! It’s like I made a friend 😁 oh yeah.. and I’m pregnant! I have my first OB appointment in two days ❤️

The “oh... oh!!!” Ultra sound tech reaction isn’t limited to just humans either! So when horses come to the vet hospital for abdominal pain, they often get an ultrasound to check out their intestines. One time, a one year old (adolescent,) miniature horse was getting an ultra sound of her intestines and turned out she was pregnant!! The owners were shocked bc they didn’t think a 1 year old could get pregnant 🤦🏼♀️ It was very dangerous because mini horses already have big babies and small pelvises, and she wasn’t fully mature so had an even smaller pelvis. Everyone survived but it was a SHOCK to say the least! Normally horses are bred intentionally, but people can be irresponsible
@@GFAprodite It was the people who were responsible for keeping them in a situation that facilitated pregnancy. Unless you're blaming the horse for putting herself in a position that could likely have killed her? I mean, people are the reason they have tricky pregnancy. If people didn't think miniature horses were adorable, they wouldn't breed them for the traits that make the creature tiny, and their birthing process wouldn't be dangerous. Always blame humans for the issues humans are the cause of. 👍🏻
@@GFAprodite If you put an intact male dog in the same room as an intact female and don't bother to do anything to prevent the male from getting to the female, it's not the dogs' fault for making puppies.
Watching this with 16 week pregnancy hormones, this episode hits different. ❤️😭❤️😭❤️ The love her husband has for her, the resilience of the mom the miracle baby is such a sweet triumph over a very difficult situation. This is an amazing family. Damn it I am crying again!
I was born at 37 weeks 1 lb 11 oz. I laughed so hard when she said preemies don't look like beautiful babies because pictures of me in the incubator are gross😂 I'm now 23 wanting my own baby❤️
I got pregnant on Valentines day and kept getting false negatives until March...I took about 5 or 6 tests, even went to my clinic and that was negative as well and the woman tried to tell me it was because I was obese 🙄......When the time came to put my son on WIC I went in there and told her that this was my false negative baby and that I wasn't "just obese"
That is a very normal timeline as implantation takes 5-10 days and it takes a few more days for hcg to show up on a test, which means that it was impossible to test positive until late in february or early in march depending on the test's sensitivity.
I’m a physical medicine and rehab doctor and am familiar with the care of people recovering after amputations. Without knowing more details of her case, it’s hard to know which medications she was prescribed that are restricted in pregnancy. Even nsaids require caution and are contraindicated in the 3rd trimester. She likely is on a nerve pain medication like gabapentin (which is vaguely “caution advised, not enough evidence). She may be on opioids due to the significant trauma from the car crash and subsequent amputation surgery (risk fetal withdrawal syndrome or respiratory depression during labor). Wish she had bought like 5 drug store pregnancy tests herself. Love your channel, thanks for supporting women’s health and accurately representing the risks of unplanned pregnancy. Would love to do a spinal cord injury and pregnancy video with you! Or a pain and pregnancy video! Thank you for the great content!
I always find these stories so crazy! The farthest along I was when I found I was pregnant was with my oldest and I was 6 weeks. The earliest I’ve found out is with this current pregnancy and I had a positive test 2 weeks after conception.
"Going to be controversial here..." 100% in agreement lol all 5 (27w/twins, 33 wks, 34 wks, 33 wks) of my premies looked like some kind of alien rather then the beautiful new born people think of lol
I am truly your fan OMG! And after you talked about compartment syndrome, I admire you even more, you don't give us only obgyn information, but really important medical information. I'm a medstudent in my intern year, working in a covid-19 unit, needing some hope to keep with my dream of being an obgyn. Thanks for giving me inspiration. Kisses and hugs from Brazil
also, would you consider making a video about pelvic organ prolapses? I know you're an obgyn, not a urogyn, but I think it'd be really important for people to know that it can happened, because I didn't until it happened to me.
I got pregnant, unplanned, at 20 years old. To make things worse at the time, right before Christmas, I found out it was twins. It was a blood test and the nurse told me that she’d never had such a rapid positive response to the test. I just looked at her like “yay me?” With a blank stare. She didn’t know what else to say. I love that you told us to ask Dr. Mike. Lol. He’s just so adorable. Great video, as always. ☺️
Honestly this might be my favorite series on youtube. Seeing an actual ObGyn go through a series that people often times make fun of and pretty much always come out the other end going "Yeah it's easy to see how they didn't know. How could they?" is super refreshing. I always feel so bad for the women in these episodes and how people (like my mother for example) will mock them going "how the hell didn't they know, haha what idiots!" so I'm glad a professional in the field is going through and explaining why they missed it and showing how these women's situations are always really understandable. Seriously, thank you for doing this.
This episode choked me up more than all the other ones combined!! When she said she saw her picture and immediately felt attached and didn’t wanna lose her 😭💔 oh my gosh!!
Hi mama doctor Jones, would you be able to do a video on pregnancy and EDS? I’ve heard very mixed information about it, so I was wondering what information you had about it that you would be willing to share! Thank you!
mixed info because there is so little research - I doubt MDJ could produce anything of her usual high quality because of the lack of information. One of the most recent published studies was literally a survey of the experiences of 40 women - which isn't data
I have marfan syndrome, a connective tissue disorder similar to EDS. I know for a marf, risks of pregnancy differ from woman to woman, how much the aorta is compromised, and a few other things. I've not researched EDS enough to know offhand what complications might exists. I've thought about asking her myself to do a video on high risk pregnancies, which is what they would be for us. Best of luck to you!
I’m currently pregnant and have EDS type 3. The big thing my high risk OBGYN talked to me about was that I’m at an increased risk for preterm labor, tearing, excess bleeding after birth, along with any other healing issues that are common with EDS (such as poor wound healing). He also said the change in hormones may make my EDS worse especially when I get closer to delivery as my connective tissue is not only looser, but there will be weight on my joints that isn’t normally there. So I may have more hip dislocations, hurt myself easier, etc. he told me to make sure because of the increased laxity of my joints that I’m only doing low impact things. I don’t have any heart complications from EDS, but if I did they would have had to monitor that more closely. He sees 1-2 EDS type 3 patients a month and said overall we have fairly normal deliveries and just need a few extra precautions in place. I’m currently 8 weeks along and feel much better than I did before I got pregnant.

After all she's been through and how she's fought through physical therapy she'll be a fantastic mother. And he'll be a wonderful father after caring for her after her accident. That baby was a gift from God to two deserving wonderful parents.
I remember after I had my eldest, my mom (a nurse) was saying how pretty she is and I was like “well all babies are cute”. She just laughed and said “no they are not”. 🤣
One of my old high school friends had her baby at 24.5 weeks. She has an underdeveloped cervix and her water broke just before 24. The hospital needed to try the desperate measure of sewing her closed to try and keep him inside and going however much longer was possible. He was born just under a week later at 24.5 and had to stay in NICU for an insanely long time during the pandemic. He's now over a year old and still going strong. Both parents are struggling with post-natal depression and have been very open about how difficult their experience has been, but how much joy their son has brought to their lives. I thought it was good to share a successful premmie story for a premmie episode

I've had a genuine false negative pregnancy test, or at least I'm pretty confident I did, seen as every other test I have taken I managed to get right!
I had a false positive with the “first response” brand and my husband and I were crushed when two days later the nurse says I’m not pregnant. I never ever used that brand again. My grandmother used to volunteer for a program through her church where people who suspected they could be pregnant, usually people still in or just out of high school, could come in and get a pregnancy test. It was just a simple "pee on it and see if it has one stripe or two" kind of test, nothing fancy. Her job was to take one, give it to the person, instruct them to pee on it, and then she would read them the result of one or two lines and tell them if they were or weren't pregnant. Years later, my mother gets pregnant, uses one of these tests, and gets a positive result (i.e. two lines visible, both the control line and test line). My grandmother ends up arguing with her, saying that two lines means a negative result and that she should know given how often she did it in the past. My mother had to get the box and it's instructions to prove her wrong. My grandmother told every pregnant teenager who WAS pregnant that they WERE NOT pregnant and every teenager who WAS NOT pregnant that they WERE pregnant. I cannot imagine. These poor people.
I love her name, it's beautiful and unique and I like that she has the option to go by Anne if she wants to, too many parents don't think about that when they give their child an unusual name
This was such a rollercoaster! I'm so glad their baby ended up being okay! I heard you say that you had preemie twins, I myself also had micropreemie twins who were born at 25 weeks. They were 1;b 6oz & 1lb 7oz. They spent 3 months in NICU. They will be 6 in April. Preemies are warriors, and so are the parents!
Same 🙃 mine started today and I'm not thrilled Luckily they're not so bad these days. I used to have pretty painful periods in my teens and early 20s, then used Mirena IUDs for a decade... recently pulled that out to try for a baby and now that my periods are back, the symptoms are much milder (same clockwork timing as always, too!) ...but of course now there's a pandemic and hubby wants to use condoms until it blows over😓
When I was pregnant with my son I found out so early that my doctor told me to prepare myself she thought I was going to lose him. Later she said I must have conceived 2-3 weeks when I tested and it was really rare to have a positive that early. I took it as my maternal instinct kicking in ☺️ love these videos Doctor Jones! I also had hyperemesis gravidarum though, so I knew because of that too. I started getting sick so early.
Similar thing here! I must have taken the test maybe 8 days after I ovulated but my doctor was not confident as my hormone levels were low and she told me to prepare myself for a possible miscarriage.... that baby is now almost 11 months old.
Well now I’m crying. What a heart wrenching story. Even though she was blessed with a baby after aaaaaaall she went through, it would be incredibly traumatic to be healing from such extensive injuries- physically and emotionally- and be told you will suddenly have a baby to care for. Like instantly. Such a strong couple. God bless them!! Beautiful baby girl
Unrelated to the fabulous educational and entertaining content, but I love how the Texas accent came out strong when MDJ said it was hurting her heart! 😂
There is No reason to be questioning this. My daughter was stuck. The suction cup flew off Bruising her head severely. They pushed her back & C section. She has hypotonia in 1 arm. She suffered Hypoxic, ischemic injury & had seizures.
Not a physician, but my son was basically stuck in the birth canal when I had a c-section. He was face-first and shoulder distocia and basically had himself wedged sideways with his face through the cervix and his shoulder sideways. The ended up having to literally push him back up and through the incision (he's fine now, still a pain though 😂)

Please always clarify with doctors, as a patient you deserve to know what is going on with your body
@@bajonista I think you meant to reply to OP, but I completely agree. In my case the doctor said, "You won't be able to get pregnant while on this medication."
What I heard: "It's birth control in case someone tries to put a baby in me. Bonus!"
What she meant: "I assume you will want to get pregnant since you have a uterus even though you've never expressed this to me and it will be dangerous to do that while taking this medication so make sure you don't have unprotected intercourse."

Right? For some people life just sucks for no reason.

Did anyone else get she got pregnant in November and the accident was December, she was already pregnant. So happy the baby made it. :)
I think it was December the previous year that the accident happened. As she was in hospital and rehab for 9 months...

My mom was jaundiced when she was born and the first words out of my grandmother’s mouth were apparently, “Good Lord she’s as yellow as a chinaman” 💀
Another lovely story for all of you of romance persisting through adversity like in this case.

I agree
I whole heartedly disagree, a preemie is absolutely beautiful, I lost my baby 2 months into my pregnancy, I would have been over the moon if my baby ended up being a premature baby because that would have been better than what actually happened. I'd rather my baby in my arms alive and being kept alive and ending up thriving, then what I've (and many many other people) been threw.

The “oh... oh!!!” Ultra sound tech reaction isn’t limited to just humans either! So when horses come to the vet hospital for abdominal pain, they often get an ultrasound to check out their intestines. One time, a one year old (adolescent,) miniature horse was getting an ultra sound of her intestines and turned out she was pregnant!! The owners were shocked bc they didn’t think a 1 year old could get pregnant 🤦🏼♀️
It was very dangerous because mini horses already have big babies and small pelvises, and she wasn’t fully mature so had an even smaller pelvis.
Everyone survived but it was a SHOCK to say the least! Normally horses are bred intentionally, but people can be irresponsible
Wholey, I was told horses couldn't concieve before thier second year. I mean you have to be careful always but I yeah that's crazy.
PEOPLE Were Irresponsible?!

1 lb 11 oz @ 37 weeks?! 37 weeks is basically full term. Was it 37 or 27?
We have family friends who are twins and one of them was 1 pound.
“I love babies!” Lol you better with 4 kids and being an OB 🤣 I love these videos and all your other ones! You’re so funny and I’ve learned so much!
We had a patient on Methotrexate one time (I heard) that thought “you can’t get on MTX” meant she didn’t need birth control.
Oh no that is so scary!!
I was told I couldn’t get pregnant on methotrexate and if I did the medicine would kill it and I’d never know. This was 11 years ago.
@@mlr270mr It would depend on the dose/schedule. Methotrexate is used to terminate ectopic pregnancies in some patients that fit the criteria.
@@mlr270mr not true. You can absolutely cause severe birth defects in babies with mtx. Its not always aborted.
I’m taking this as reason to find a second birth control method since I’m on that medication.
You weren’t that far along
I love how compassionate MDJ is for a mom's emotions! I wish I'd had that that from my doctors!
I always find these stories so crazy! The farthest along I was when I found I was pregnant was with my oldest and I was 6 weeks. The earliest I’ve found out is with this current pregnancy and I had a positive test 2 weeks after conception.
I found out with my daughter at 11 weeks and I felt like the pregnancy was super fast! Lol
"Going to be controversial here..." 100% in agreement lol all 5 (27w/twins, 33 wks, 34 wks, 33 wks) of my premies looked like some kind of alien rather then the beautiful new born people think of lol
This episode definitely made me cry! What a strong mommy and daddy
I am truly your fan OMG! And after you talked about compartment syndrome, I admire you even more, you don't give us only obgyn information, but really important medical information.
I'm a medstudent in my intern year, working in a covid-19 unit, needing some hope to keep with my dream of being an obgyn. Thanks for giving me inspiration.

was just checking if there were any obgyn reacts vids i had missed, and to my delight heres a brand new video!
Oh my gosh. This made me tear up! I hope this family is thriving and loving each other every day.
also, would you consider making a video about pelvic organ prolapses? I know you're an obgyn, not a urogyn, but I think it'd be really important for people to know that it can happened, because I didn't until it happened to me.
Nurse Zabe has a great video about pelvic organ prolapse; she speaks with a pelvic floor PT. I recommend checking it out!

I love when mama doctor jones does these videos theyre so entertaining and informational!❤️
Join some EDS groups on Facebook. There’s some really great info on there! Most of them will have firsthand experience
@@karineal7136 first of all, congratulations! What you said was very helpful. I too have HEds, so what you said was very helpful. I know everyone is different, but I really appreciate you sharing with me. Thank you!

That actually made me cry, I had a premie and I to know how hard it was having your baby in the nicu and feeling scared.
That Papa!!!!!!! The way he looks when he talks about his girls is beautiful 😍 and that baby girl is gorgeous!!!!!
I wish the 3 of you very blessed, long lives!
At the time I felt we weren’t ready but once I thought I was pregnant, we immediately accepted the baby and were extremely excited and were already looking at strollers and stuff. Three years later I got pregnant. Now we are raising the two kings we begged God for ❤❤

I had three pregnancies where I got false negatives initially-including clinical blood tests. I know that's rare but definitely possible!
Do they know what caused it? Is there a medical term for this?

Mama Doctor Jones, thanks for being the legend you are. :)
Coincidentally this time of the month matches my other time of the month
Same 🙃 mine started today and I'm not thrilled
Luckily they're not so bad these days. I used to have pretty painful periods in my teens and early 20s, then used Mirena IUDs for a decade... recently pulled that out to try for a baby and now that my periods are back, the symptoms are much milder (same clockwork timing as always, too!)
...but of course now there's a pandemic and hubby wants to use condoms until it blows over😓
Hey me to!
I appreciate how humanizing these videos make doctors like Mama Dr.Jones and Dr. Mike look.
Your hair colour looks so good. Those highlights really add a lot of dimension and its like the perfect shade and tone.
Hey MDJ, both my deliveries required forceps. What are some reasons women are told "it's too late for a c-sction, and we have to go this route now"?
I think it's too late if the baby's head is now in the birth canal, when it gets more risky and difficult to do a c-sec, but I'm not 100% sure.
I had to get forceps with my oldest because he was facing sideways and his shoulder was stuck
@@stephaniehowe0973 Fair questions that should be answered. She's not claiming wrong doing just wants to know what happened.
