When mine and my husband’s first son was born, I was holding him and looked up at my husband with starry eyes and said “DO YOU LOVE HIM!?” And my husband said... “well I don’t know him?” 😂😂 the most honest answer he could’ve possibly given.

My brother was asleep when he came out 😆 they woke him up, he cried for like two minutes and then went straight back to sleep. We used to joke that that’s why he’s so lazy now.

Wow we had something similar... my mom was screaming in agony for her first pregnancy with my older brother, she was laughing because I was a c-section and she was so relieved that it wasn't as painful as the first pregnancy, and she was singing to the music with my little brother.
My older brother wound up being a criminal and is still serving in Georgia, I ended up being always engaged with humor and joking with her, and my little brother has taken an interest in music.

I came out silent, my mom thought I was dead. I learned to walk at 10 months and then decided I was self sufficient enough that I didn't learn to talk until I was 3, then spoke in nearly full sentences. Also stayed bald till I was about 3-4. I think I'm an only child because my parents were scared of WTH the next one would do.

My son was stillborn, and I had the biggest, starry-eyed love for him that I’ve ever felt for another human being! There’s nothing in this world like the connection that you feel for your child...I will remember him forever.❤️

My oldest baby didn't cry when born. I was so scared. The doctor said "he's looking around. He's fine". I thought he was lying until they brought him to me while they were stitching me up. Yup he was fine. Just looking.

You can love a baby when it arrives, or even in anticipation of it, but the bond develops from taking care of it. I know this from having both biological and adopted babies.
I appreciate that she brings up this point. Relationships can take time to grow. I LIKED my oldest from the second I found out I was pregnant. I didn't LOVE her until she was 3 months old. And then, when I realized, it was like this waterfall of emotion. I still get teary eyed thinking about it. It was joyous

The hormonal change, the body change, every thing changes in a human body. How can you not know that first movement of the fetus called " quickening "
How can you not feel heavy?
EVERYTHING changes in a body and still you give birth while not knowing that you are pregnant or you simply check and finds out you are in the last stages of pregnancy.

I'm a flight attendant and yes we get to fly for free domestically and internationally we just pay a small fee. My parents and one travel companion of my choice also fly for free :) Benefits depend on the airline though.
Is it unlimited or certain amount of times that you can fly for free?

My grandma worked for pan am back in the day and theyd literally fly across country for the afternoon for free just to eat lunch somewhere, downside is they measured your bust, waist and hip and heel size as well as weigh, along with strict makeup and hair requirements so.... probably not worth it back then

I was on a flight from Dallas to St Paul and a passenger went into premature labor. During the Christmas holiday, turbulence and snow. It was so scary but I've never seen a tougher woman. She labored for the entire flight, refused to have the plane rerouted or turned around. The main thing was how the entire flight banded together for her and supported her by counting her contractions and just being excellent humans. Beautiful experience, 10/10 would do again. ❤️

That is such a lie. The airlines would never leave that flight in tact. It would be rerouted unless rerouting would be as long or longer than going to the destination
All of mine were quiet when born. The two first ones were breathing and looked a bit surprised, wrinkling their noses and looking around, so completely fine without screaming. My third one got a bit of a shock since he flew out of me like superman 😂 looked around with huge eyes and just held his breath! He was connected to the umbilical cord and it was still pulsating, so we were all good and simply rubbed him down, talked to him and very gently blew air on his face to prompt him to breathe in. At some point he got the hang of it. 😂
Mine was quiet to looking around the room just as calm.

There's actually been studies showing that it's easier to learn languages as an adult (as in grammar and vocabulary). It's just easier to learn accents/different sounds you're not used to as a child.
@@TheOldiie And that's why young toddlers can easily learn multiple languages in a year or two and it usually takes adults 4-7 years
There’s advantages and disadvantages to second language acquisition in both children and adults. Young children do acquire languages more easily in that ‘critical learning period’, although for a second language they don’t have much motivation to learn (Milo’s not going to understand that he needs to learn Spanish so Mommy can travel for free) and obviously don’t have the attention spans for a formal learning environment. Adults, while out of that critical learning period, are good at sitting in classrooms and learning stuff and also have a reason to learn the language. So basically, you’re never too old (or too young) to learn another language!
Peppa Edits no... Toddlers don't even fully know their first language. It would likely take them more than 4 years to learn both languages fluently. It really is not easier for them to learn a second language. It's easier for adults to actually learn the language. It's easier for toddlers to listen for sounds that are not common in the adult's first language.... But adults can still learn how to do that.

My parents had to do this a few times with emergency foster babies. Literally stopped at Walmart for basic supplies on the way home from the hospital. First time they didn’t even have a crib or bassinet and the baby spent her first night home in a clothes basket
Yeah…it’s sort of like that when your child is born more than three months early. We never got parenting classes or even a hospital tour.
TBH, most of the things expectant parents and their friends buy for the baby are not necessary. That oh-so-adorable holiday dress -- most likely not ever going to be worn, or only worn once and the next week it will not fit. Don't spring for expensive stuff that becomes useless! (VERY VERY QUICKLY.)

I had no idea my piano teacher was pregnant until she said “I’m temporarily closing the school in two months time because I’m having a baby”.
I had my daughter without knowing I was pregnant, and I really appreciate you mentioning the point about some mom's not being immediately enamored/excited. That happened with me as I dealt with the shock and the guilt of not feeling motherly right away when my daughter needed me still bites a little.

The love grew days later
I get starry eyed over other people’s babies-I am a sap. Especially getting to hold and meet someone so brand new makes me teary, always. My own was just more poignant because I knew how limited time was with her.
I figured it was due to having my son at 7 months, so very unexpected, but it took a week or two for it to really sink in and to really start bonding with him.
I love that in the re-enactment the couple at home during an emergency is speaking in Quebecois accented English, rather than in French.

Oh I totally had that “starry eyed movie love”!!! I had my only child 3 months before I turned 20 and from the minute I knew she was in my tummy, she became my entire world. I always wanted lots of children!! I wanted a crazy, loud house full of kids! My first pregnancy unfortunately ended in miscarriage. I conceived my daughter with my second pregnancy, and then my husband and I tried for 20 years to give my little girl a sibling with no success. I have 5 babies in heaven and I can’t wait to meet them one day. As of right now, I’m 42 years old, and my dreams of having more children are over. I have finally come to terms with how my life played out. The biggest part of me finally being ok and not bursting into tears every time I see a pregnant woman, or having to remove myself from the room every time a diaper commercial comes on the television, was watching my miracle child; my daughter, as she has become a Mother herself! I cried myself to sleep every night for 20 years, but now I sleep soundly and wake with a smile every day. My daughter had a gorgeous baby boy in January of 2020, and she just delivered a second perfect baby boy in August of 2021, just a few weeks ago! I feel like the luckiest woman in the world!!! My grandsons Sage August, and Salem Jude have made all of my baby dreams come true. I didn’t realize that all of the feelings you have as a mother, for your babies, extend to your grandchildren! It’s the same love! It’s incredible and I truly believe that my struggles have made me appreciate the blessings of my baby boys even more than I would have if I didn’t ache so desperately and long for babies for so much of my life. I wasn't one of those moms who cried tears of joy or was "so in love" when my daughter was born (even though I did love her). It was more like, "Ok, you're here. Let's get this show on the road." However, I did immediately feel very protective of her.

I just love how empathetic and loving you are when reacting to these expecting mothers. No judgment, no being harsh, just thinking of them as humans who did what they could with what they knew. I'm not sure about kids yet, but if I were to have any, I'd hope to get a doctor as humane and kind as you, who would respect me throughout the process. For more practitioners like you
When I had my baby, for months I just felt like I was honored with the opportunity to babysit and care for a baby indefinitely. It took awhile for it to sink in that he was my son.
I loved him from the beginning, but it took a while to really feel he was my child.
That’s basically how I felt with my youngest brother. Even though I’m the oldest and I can remember 2 of my brothers being born (I was a baby when I became a big sister) it took a while to feel like the baby was my actual little brother.
Exactly how I felt. The bond grew but it took months. Even though I was nursing him too-oddly enough it took months. Sometimes it’s not instant magic and that’s ok.

Same! I always laugh at how big babies "just being born" in tv and film are. It's too funny. I always think about that fact that someone allowed other people to goop up their baby and make them look "just born" for money too.🤣 Sometimes they just show them all wrapped up in a blanket but often they try to make it look as real as possible and show the baby all bloody and goopy from birth..I just wonder what they are putting on the baby to make them look like that? Google, here I come!
@Matty Bruno Lucas Zenere Salas My cousin was 12lbs! Trust me, I know there are big newborns but often the newborns used are 2 or 3 months and it's pretty obvious they aren't newborn based on the average weight and size for newborns.

I'm so glad you said that at the end. I denied my pregnancy the entire time and when they finally put him on my chest, I loved him but I wasn't like "oh my God he's finally here." It was more like "oh god why am I going to do now?"
I was a flight attendant for United Airlines for six years. My absolute favorite time in the business was the year that I flew internationally and did nothing but jet back and forth to the UK. We were able to fly domestically for free, so when my sister lived in Hawaii I was able to go a couple of times to see her at no cost. International flights were not free, but very cheap compared to paying full fare. As with any job, there were things about it that were great as well as things that weren’t. I left the airline after getting married because I just really wanted to have a more regular schedule and be home with my husband. I have never regretted leaving, especially after having kids. It’s a lifestyle that I have no interest in anymore now that I have a family.

They’re all wrinkly from being in the amniotic fluid, can be puffy from birth etc etc

I used to be a flight attendant and girls who got pregnant were on ground duty (not flying, in the office at the airport) as soon as they find out about pregnancy. And I believe it’s very similar in every airline. Greetings x

Lmao, I know I'm late, but this is hilarious 😂. I'm chronically ill, I've spent the night in the hospital way too often, so I know *exactly* what smell you're talking about. It's fucking depressing.
When my brother was born, he didn't cry. He literally just looked around and went to sleep. The next time they saw him awake, it was the next day and they were giving him a bath. Woke up when put in water and went back to sleep when being dried off. He was never a handful in the sense that he slept more than anything else and he's an extremely quiet child that was happy with his bottle and a nap. So they had a second child. Who screamed, cried, never slept more than an hour at a time, was impossible to get to rest, always got into things they shouldn't, and over all made them decide two was enough.
This was exactly the same with me and my brother. I was the quiet one tho 😂😂

It’s amazing how personality can show up that early! I swear my youngest was a sensory seeker even in the womb. Never stopped moving and dancing around! He is 7 now, is autistic and constantly in motion.
That was me and my little sister. I was the perfect angel and my mum thought it would be nice to have another one... but the next was not a perfect angel 😂
That's me and my little sister too! But i was the always crying one, they tried to put me down to sleep and I'd immediately wake up to cry and scream until I'd be picked up and carried around again .. my sister slept so much, hardly ever woke up at night to scream, just a perfect little baby.
I describe the feeling for a new baby not as love, but a mix of awe and a deep sense responsibility and protectiveness toward them. Honestly, it wasn't love at first sight...I didn't know them.
I remember my mom telling the story where she gave birth to me and I didn’t cry at all when I came out. She told the nurse to spank me to make me cry/breathe but the nurse kept telling her that I was breathing and just kept looking at my surroundings, and my mom being stubborn as a mule didn’t care what she said and kept telling her to basically hit me 😂
This is my favorite episode. They are so funny and cute. My 2nd daughter (during my csection), as soon as the dr had opened my uterus she popped her head out and tried to look around. The doctors were laughing so hard they had my husband look over the blue curtain to see and take a pic. They nicknamed her curiosity and wrote it on her crib tag with my last name.. She was the talk of the doctors and nurses for days..

I remember being 7 months pregnant and women asking me if I can feel the baby kick and me saying no ....until one woman finally described what I would be feeling and thinking to myself...well, I've been feeling that for months. Who knew that was the baby moving. Pretty amazing. Nobody tells you these things in the beginning.

With my first pregnancy I didn't notice kicks until I was over half way through. At that point the kicks in the ribs and low down in the pelvis were pretty distinctive. With my second pregnancy I knew what to expect and recognized them at 13 weeks which is about as early as possible.
Bigger baby pregnancy kicks just feel like quick pressure, like exactly as if a tiny foot is kicking you. Sometimes there are even rolling ones where it's like the baby is turning and you can feel pressure from inside moving across a few inches a the baby moves. Those ones are especially weird lol. Small baby kicks almost feel like if you have to poop and you can kinda feel it coming around the corner of your intestines, but the position is different since it's not coming from your intestines.
I’m currently pregnant with my first child and I’m kind of in a unique situation as far as being able to feel the baby. I’ve always heard it’s similar to gas pains, rumbling in your bowels and stomach. I have Crohn’s disease and had my entire colon removed a year ago. When I started to feel my baby, it felt like “normal” gas pains to me. Which is something I haven’t felt in so long, especially the last year. So I totally know when it’s him because I’ll get an rumble or push that’s like “hmm, I’m not suppose to have that.”
Limeila i explain in my comment but it feels kind of like gas pains or pressure. I’m 23 weeks along so I’m told I’ll be feeling my baby more he gets bigger but for now it feels like rumbles in your stomach or pelvis and I also get this blatant punch or kick where I feel quite a bit of discomfort for maybe a minute.

In France, we call this situation "déni de grossesse" and the mothers felt nothing during the pregnancy because the mom's brain switches to "smuggling mode" and gets the message to the rest of the body to hide the baby and even to the baby to act like a stowaway! Happened to a good friend of mine and it can happen to any woman even women that have had several pregnancies before… sometimes it's even not for the whole 9 months and when the brain is ready to let the mental information processing, the belly can start to show in minutes only! Freaking wow, like 15minutes ago the woman had a flat belly and then it pops out like an air mattress to show a 6 months pregnancy belly.
That's cool, I had no idea that that was a thing!
That happened to me!! I went from not showing at all - zero showing. Went to dinner, had to unzip my pants and luckily had a longer blouse. It was a weekend. I went back to work on Monday looking like I swallowed a watermelon. It was crazy the difference before/ after just that one dinner. It was month 5. Regular clothes, pregnancy clothes immediately.
Exactly what happened to my friend. Didn’t show until told she was 5-1/2 months old.

It's scary that that can happen. I wish women could empty our uteruses at will, like peeing, then we would always do so after sex and there would be no unwanted pregnancies suddenly showing up at 5 weeks or later.
I loved my bump, then my baby was born and I was like “who dis?” I always describe how my love doubled every few minutes after she was born though in a way that is was painfully perfect to me.
When my first son was born and they put him in my arms, I really felt like..."What am I supposed to do with this?" It took me 2 or 3 weeks to finally bond with him. With my second son, I couldn't take my eyes off of him from the very first moment. Everything was opposite. First pregnancy I was excited, felt great, couldn't wait to meet him and then.....what is this. Second pregnancy was utterly miserable uncomfortable and unhappy, zero excitement, and then...instant love. Bizarre how these things go.
My Mum belly laughed without knowing why during the first several hours of contraction. Then I guess it got to the point that they found out labor/delivery was no joke, especially when the gas and air didn't help and Mum didn't really like the process of an epidural!
@@phoenixmoon5580 epidurals are bloody scary, I don't blame her. Nobody wants a needle in their spinal cavity 😬 I had one briefly for my first labour. In my second I decided I would rather just go through labour without than have that bloody great needle anywhere near my back.

@@phoenixmoon5580 oh definitely without the epidural. I think they are genius medicine honestly, and its so important women have the choice if they want them. For me, I don't like to feel like I'm out of control, don't like gigantic needles or being numb. So even though the labihr without it was painful, I felt it was a much more enjoyable experience. It went quite quickly and without fuss too.
@@vanderbam2741 I was wondering whether the being numb kinda made you feel you were somewhat distant, like being behind a glass panel, during your own labor. Or maybe if it was a movie the epidural labor would be in black and white due to the numbness. The pain is obviously one of the downsides to labor, but being able to feel what happens during childbirth like how the muscles naturally do what they do, how each step your baby takes out the birth canal might feel, how it feels afterwards, etc. It might make you feel more 'there', and if it was a movie it would be in technicolour. It is actually quite enviable on one hand for me. (Single and childless by choice. This is due to bad DNA from both awesome parents that a biological child is likely to inherit regardless of how amazing the hypothetical (currently non existant) partner's genetics are. Another major issue is that I am too ill to even manage to care for myself. Also my Mum had me 'late' in her words, and I'm older than she was when she had me). I feel sad that I won't experience what pregnancy, labor, birth, attempts at breast feeding etc would feel like. However, I feel it is the most responsible choice to make for welfare of any child. (Not to say others in my situation could not have children/care for children and be amazing parents. Just personally for me!).... You''ve got to be so careful on the internet these days! Eugh!
I've had a baby with no drugs and passed a kidney stone. Kidney stone was worse.
My mom said the same lol. She got an epidural but it wore off, and the kidney stone was still worse for her.
I had a stone a few years ago, and the stabbing back pain was unbearable. I literally thought I was dying.
I havent had a baby, but when I passed my first kidney stone, I thought my appendix had burst and I was dying, only explanation my pain addled brain could come up with. Glad to hear giving birth isnt quite as painful lol
I’m 15 and I’ve have at least 5 kidney stones that I know of and I don’t think they are the worst thing in the world but it makes me think I would be a champ at giving birth

Yes as a first time mom at 21 I didn’t know what to expect but once my son was born a breathed a HUGE sigh of relief for my body, and next was hearing my son cry and then holding him. The nurturing love was there right away and then total love within 24 hours (which I was understandably sleeping for most of). 9 lb 10 oz baby boy. 💙 Best feeling ever. 💝
I had to wear compression socks after having my daughter. when my dad came in to hospital to see us he kept putting things in the foot of them knowing I couldn’t reach my feet. When the nurse took them off she was like “excuse me but why do you candy wrappers in here?” I died

I remember thinking “when is your mom coming to get you?” when my first was an infant. He was very colicky and I was very tired and had no clue what I was doing. So, yeah, that starry eyed wonderful love feeling doesn’t always happen right away.
For the record, I realized in the same moment I AM the mom, no one is coming to get him, and we had better figure this out! Haha!

I felt that crazy ridiculously in-love with my son feeling when I first had him as soon as I saw him and held him but I think a lot of it has to do with the feel-good hormones you have going through your body right after birth! 😂 and I still feel that way every time he laughs and smiles or does anything that makes me super proud ❤️
My sister kept going back inside my mom, like a vacuum, my brother sneezed when he came out and my legs were wrapped around my head.
I didnt feel starry eyes either with my baby. Thought she didnt look that cute either. Felt bad about that lol. But now she grew on me lol

Usually they make the baby cry to ensure their healthy. That’s where the “spanking a newborn” came from. You were trying to induce crying. Now we just pinch them so they cry.
The first reaction in my head as they placed my newborn girl on my chest was "oh f***, this is a lot of responsibility".
Obviously I love her, but it's a really weird moment of having this brand new person in your life that you really know nothing about relying on you for literally everything.

My pregnancy was a happy little accident and when they did lay her on my chest that first time I didn't realize quite what I was getting myself into.

When you're a flight attendant or work for an airline in any other capacity you usually have flying benefits. Each airline is different but usually the worker and their family can purchase plane tickets significantly cheaper. Also they have the option of purchasing standby tickets which are usually cheapest of all.
I've heard one giving one free ticket for entire 1st degree family once a year, then at very discounted rate after retirement
idk what airlines you are talking about bc all the ones around me do free tickets for the flight attendants, their spouse, and their parents. the only thing you have to pay is taxes on the tickets when friends come with you. if there are really flight attendants out there paying for tickets, they need to gtfo that job, because american, delta, and united don't.
@@sunnydell3016 But as you mentioned they aren't technically 'free', just the cut of the ticket the airline pays for is free. That's pretty much the same with every airline. I personally fly through a family member that works for a European airline (member of Star alliance). Next to the aforementioned standby tickets we can also purchase confirmed seats for much cheaper (for example over the holidays I flew round trip FRA-ORD for 223€). It's actually a great thing. So yeah F.A.s should quit their jobs and work for European airlines as I believe the benefits overall are much better.

Ok guys I see a bit of confusion in the comments that I would like to clear up. We fly standby for free, only bap the taxes. These do not guarantee us a seat though. We also get a discount on full fare tickets which give us a normal seat like everyone else. Most companies allow the employee to keep their flying benefits for life if they have been with the company for 25 years. With united, you can only have flying benefits for your children until they are 26. Employee parents usually keep their flying benefits during their lives.

When my 1st son was born I was in labor forever and hadn't slept for 36 hours and had a rough delivery. I just wanted to sleep. I think the staff was concerned. As soon as I woke from a nap I had the starry eyed love.
I felt the same way with my daughter. There wasn't a connection at first. I loved her and cared for her but it was kinda like "Hi. My name's mommy. Nice to meet you." Handshake included. And now we're best buds. 😄❤

Martine Robson you can’t legally put a newborn on TV. They have to use dolls or older children. Idk how they get around it for like Huggies commercials and stuff but I remember it was talked about in some documentary I watched.
@@ivyrose5153 They definitely can, and do. I used to work for a Theatrical Agency, and one of my job's was to call Maternity Wards and Birthing Centres to find newborns for TV shows. We usually tried to find twins, but they weren't always available for obvious reasons.
A baby has to be at least eighteen days old before they can be filmed, and have very limited time they can be filmed, but they can film babies.

When I had my baby, it was an emergency C-section and he was taken immediately to the NICU. I didn't have any instant connection (though I wanted it) to this little life and my sister and dad said that my little boy was the most beautiful thing they'd ever seen and they had a connection immediately.
It's heartbreaking when you are the mother and everyone else seems to have that 'starry eyed moment' without you and you have to start your relationship from scratch in a hospital, only allowed to hold your baby twice a day.

I was raised by my father, and my mother, who struggled with unexplainablely difficult mental health issues, was absent/distant in my very young life and our bonding was hard but *its ours* (hard to explain I guess)...
But where I'm going is... I never was sure about how I felt about being pregnant, yet how you described it's... just *I felt exactly that*.

mostly its just leave her alone, and have help on hand in case of too much post partum bleeding. birth does not often require any real intervention, and is rarely an emergency.
It could cause panic if things don't go according to "plan" and in an emergency not all equipment would obviously be available

Thank you Mama Doctor Jones for sharing that last bit at the end about not having that immediate overwhelming love for your baby. I felt like that also and it made me feel sad and guilty. Like you said, I loved my baby and would have done anything for her but it took time for us to develop the deep overwhelming love that I have for her now. Thank you for being honest about that aspect of motherhood!

It actually happened to my aunt twice! After my oldest cousin was born, she stopped having her period, so that wasn’t an indicator, and she wrote the weight gain and sickness off as just, you know, she’s not eating great or it’s a stomach bug, or anything else. After my second cousin was born, she didn’t want that to happen again, so she got her tubes tied. Since it was immediately after birth, everything healed and went back to normal (it’s still a crazy small chance, but whenever it reverses it’s bc they were tied right after birth) and the same thing happened where she completely didn’t know until like, 2nd trimester at least. It was a wild ride for her and our family
Lol I didn’t know I was pregnant till I was 19 weeks I had period I grabbed a test not even thinking I was, I would always check periodically to be safe and I’ll tell you what when I took the test I thought I was only like a couple of weeks but no I was way longer the 2 weeks
Same omg!! Like I found out at 6 weeks but I don’t know how some women can be 6 months and not know. The human body is crazy. Sometimes you don’t gain that much weight and there’s no visible bump, sometimes you have very few symptoms of being pregnant... idk how but I’ve heard so many stories like that!
I have a close friend who claims she didn't know, but I think she was in denial and just didn't know how to tell her parents...but I think she knew.

My 3rd was face up. Yes it's rare and it's not good. Pushing her out was awful.
If it is appropriate, maybe ask your mom about your birth/her labor experience, and how it compared to her other labor experiences if applicable. Also, maybe also ask about how you appeared when born and what the doctors/health professionals said about it. If it went smoothly, and both of you were healthy then it could be the first 'normal' for your mom and you. I know I completely didn't answer your question, and this is probably frustrating. I recommend google and/or google scholar (if you understand/can google medical/research terminology and get the meaning!) for the statistics, and you may prefer to specify your country or location (or the location you were born), and maybe whether you want them to be recent or at the time of your birth.
(Note: Never been pregnant, and totally unaware of research/statistics on this!).
Face up is often referred to as "sunnyside up"! It's not uncommon, often makes it very hard for mom to push.
I had PPD, with primal love for my son when he was a baby. I cared that he was feed, played with, ect. I enjoyed it when he learned a new thing. But I didn't like him as a person until 2-3. I never really liked babies before having one. And I still didn't with my own. Babies feel like a screaming tomagotchi where the stakes are too high if I fail.
Now that he's 5 and wanting to learn about art and science, We connect way better. I get to mother in subjects that I enjoy, and he gets a present engaged parent with a love of why questions. We've found our stride...I do feel like it took longer then I saw with the mothers around me. I always felt like a distant/cold mother in his early years because of that.

This is more common than people like to admit, and even when they do, they tend to sugar coat the feelings for the sake of appearances or being judged. My OBGYN explained her situation as this: "When we [Her and her Husband] decided to have kids he was all about the baby stuff. The toys, the toes, and all of the 'firsts'. I was always more interested in them as a person, or when they became one at least. I couldn't wait to get to know them and have conversations with them. Like I'd day dream of what classes would interest them. Would they want to go to college or pick up a trade? Would they wanna be a movie star? Or just the beer and fishing type? The world of possibilities was just so fascinating. And it was a gift I would get to open everyday in like 10/12ish years."
She's had three girls, all are in their 20s and while she has no interest in returning to the baby years, she said she seemed to avoid the empty nest feelings because she was never so encapsulated in the raising aspect. She loves getting updates on their hobbies and life and she's just so excited to have seen them grow into adults and spend time with them.

I want to comment on the "instant connection" with a new born.... I also didn't have that "starry eyed" romantic movie connection with my daughter the moment I saw her. I loved her, more than anything, but like Dr Jones, it took me some time to get to know her. Once we were outta the hospital & we were home where I didn't have all of those distractions & ppl around, she became my sun & stars. So I wanted to also let women know that it's ok if it's not instantaneous. 💜💙💜💙💜
That's what happen to me. Seeing her right after birth I was happy but I didn't cry due to being overjoyed. It took untill I was home for a couple days for it to really HIT me.
