My oldest baby didn't cry when born. I was so scared. The doctor said "he's looking around. He's fine". I thought he was lying until they brought him to me while they were stitching me up. Yup he was fine. Just looking.
My brother was asleep when he came out 😆 they woke him up, he cried for like two minutes and then went straight back to sleep. We used to joke that that’s why he’s so lazy now.
Wow we had something similar... my mom was screaming in agony for her first pregnancy with my older brother, she was laughing because I was a c-section and she was so relieved that it wasn't as painful as the first pregnancy, and she was singing to the music with my little brother. My older brother wound up being a criminal and is still serving in Georgia, I ended up being always engaged with humor and joking with her, and my little brother has taken an interest in music.
When mine and my husband’s first son was born, I was holding him and looked up at my husband with starry eyes and said “DO YOU LOVE HIM!?” And my husband said... “well I don’t know him?” 😂😂 the most honest answer he could’ve possibly given.
I came out silent, my mom thought I was dead. I learned to walk at 10 months and then decided I was self sufficient enough that I didn't learn to talk until I was 3, then spoke in nearly full sentences. Also stayed bald till I was about 3-4. I think I'm an only child because my parents were scared of WTH the next one would do.
I’m really glad you mentioned that last part about how not everyone has that starry eyed love for their babies immediately. So many women feel guilty about it.
You can love a baby when it arrives, or even in anticipation of it, but the bond develops from taking care of it. I know this from having both biological and adopted babies.
I appreciate that she brings up this point. Relationships can take time to grow. I LIKED my oldest from the second I found out I was pregnant. I didn't LOVE her until she was 3 months old. And then, when I realized, it was like this waterfall of emotion. I still get teary eyed thinking about it. It was joyous
I can imagine her being on the pill didn't work since she was flying through different time zones so much, and didn't take the pill the same time every day!
iTalkWho taking it at the same time everyday isn’t actually necessary, doctors just tell you do that bc it’s easier for you to remember to take it daily
@@Cherokee51774 Nowadays that wouldn't happen because you can do that, but it was 1996, people didn't have phones. That kid is gonna be 24 this year xD
We really need to harass the heck out youtube, all of the complaints. They should be leading the way towards the future, not dragging us back to the past!
My son was stillborn, and I had the biggest, starry-eyed love for him that I’ve ever felt for another human being! There’s nothing in this world like the connection that you feel for your child...I will remember him forever.❤️
Dear UA-cam, please monetize Mama Doctor Jones videos! I have learned so much invaluable information about women's health from her channel and her content is in no way inappropriate.
Theresa Schluchter I’m pretty sure you can’t monetize a video like this. Bc it’s based off of licensed shows. I’m really not sure if this is covered under fair use, and even if it was idk if that’s legal justification for monetization or just not enough to get a copyright strike/case action.
Ivy Rose you’re very very wrong about monetization. Any channel can be monetized. The more followers and views you have, the more ads your videos will have. This video falls under fair use due to the clear commentary accompanying the video review.
I had my daughter without knowing I was pregnant, and I really appreciate you mentioning the point about some mom's not being immediately enamored/excited. That happened with me as I dealt with the shock and the guilt of not feeling motherly right away when my daughter needed me still bites a little.
I get starry eyed over other people’s babies-I am a sap. Especially getting to hold and meet someone so brand new makes me teary, always. My own was just more poignant because I knew how limited time was with her.
I figured it was due to having my son at 7 months, so very unexpected, but it took a week or two for it to really sink in and to really start bonding with him.
Quick: enroll Milo in language classes! It’s easier to get a flight attendant job if you speak multiple languages, and he is at peak language learning rn
There's actually been studies showing that it's easier to learn languages as an adult (as in grammar and vocabulary). It's just easier to learn accents/different sounds you're not used to as a child.
There’s advantages and disadvantages to second language acquisition in both children and adults. Young children do acquire languages more easily in that ‘critical learning period’, although for a second language they don’t have much motivation to learn (Milo’s not going to understand that he needs to learn Spanish so Mommy can travel for free) and obviously don’t have the attention spans for a formal learning environment. Adults, while out of that critical learning period, are good at sitting in classrooms and learning stuff and also have a reason to learn the language. So basically, you’re never too old (or too young) to learn another language!
Peppa Edits no... Toddlers don't even fully know their first language. It would likely take them more than 4 years to learn both languages fluently. It really is not easier for them to learn a second language. It's easier for adults to actually learn the language. It's easier for toddlers to listen for sounds that are not common in the adult's first language.... But adults can still learn how to do that.
@@supernovah1184 how can you get pregnant and not knowing it? The hormonal change, the body change, every thing changes in a human body. How can you not know that first movement of the fetus called " quickening " How can you not feel heavy? “Some people need time to get to know the baby” THIS!!!!!! This is the shit I told all my pregnant friends after I had my daughter. That was an amazing sentiment to add!!
Hi friends!! Thanks for being here! What do you want next?? ((After 3 days being marked too edgy for most advertisers this finally got reviewed and given a green light. Thanks for the patience.)) sorry my content is SO threatening. 🤣
Yeah women's health being brought up in public discussion is way too risssssky 🙄🙄 Glad it got the ok from those who were soooo concerned. I can't wait to watch once I get all the kiddos ready for the day. 💜💜💜
I still don't understand why they had censored this... Thank you for fighting this and posting about it, as it raises the awareness on censorship of public health videos. Plus this was a very informative video... Keep posting 💪💪💪
Haha I feel you. Even before I had children, when my niece was born, I told my sister I couldn't wait to see what she'd be like in a year and a half, you know, when they become really adorable. Oops 😂
I wasn't one of those moms who cried tears of joy or was "so in love" when my daughter was born (even though I did love her). It was more like, "Ok, you're here. Let's get this show on the road." However, I did immediately feel very protective of her.
I have had 3 babies.. i didnt feel that instant love when i had my 1st 2 but my last one i was crying like a blubbering mess.. i felt so bad for feeling that way
Me too, I didn't cry until I saw my husband holding his son. I knew how much he wanted a baby, and when I saw that. I got very emotional. ☺️ He's the best father now, and have another little boy on the way in Jume
The only thing I can possibly think would flag it is the moaning sounds...but obviously with the context there’s no good reason for it to be flagged. Dumb UA-cam 💁🏼♀️
Lmao, I know I'm late, but this is hilarious 😂. I'm chronically ill, I've spent the night in the hospital way too often, so I know *exactly* what smell you're talking about. It's fucking depressing.
I was on a flight from Dallas to St Paul and a passenger went into premature labor. During the Christmas holiday, turbulence and snow. It was so scary but I've never seen a tougher woman. She labored for the entire flight, refused to have the plane rerouted or turned around. The main thing was how the entire flight banded together for her and supported her by counting her contractions and just being excellent humans. Beautiful experience, 10/10 would do again. ❤️
That is such a lie. The airlines would never leave that flight in tact. It would be rerouted unless rerouting would be as long or longer than going to the destination
My mother wasn't starry eyed when she had her first kid, my brother, she literally said he was just an ugly wrinkly baby but he got cute a few days later
Lindsay Dale I just commented on someone else’s comment this But I’ve always said fresh new borns aren’t cute and it does take them a few days to get cute 😂 They’re all wrinkly from being in the amniotic fluid, can be puffy from birth etc etc But after a few days is when you really start to see them get way cuter! 😂
@@catlover1039 that's what parents say to their kids to hide the fact that they also dont think their babies were cute until a few days after they were born.
Female and married to a man but have less than zero interest in having babies and I eat these videos UP. If anything, watching this channel just convinces me more and more that I do not want to get pregnant, ever.
When my first son was born and they put him in my arms, I really felt like..."What am I supposed to do with this?" It took me 2 or 3 weeks to finally bond with him. With my second son, I couldn't take my eyes off of him from the very first moment. Everything was opposite. First pregnancy I was excited, felt great, couldn't wait to meet him and then.....what is this. Second pregnancy was utterly miserable uncomfortable and unhappy, zero excitement, and then...instant love. Bizarre how these things go.
My Mum belly laughed without knowing why during the first several hours of contraction. Then I guess it got to the point that they found out labor/delivery was no joke, especially when the gas and air didn't help and Mum didn't really like the process of an epidural!
@@phoenixmoon5580 epidurals are bloody scary, I don't blame her. Nobody wants a needle in their spinal cavity 😬 I had one briefly for my first labour. In my second I decided I would rather just go through labour without than have that bloody great needle anywhere near my back.
@@vanderbam2741 It would be interesting to hear the comparison for you. Let me clear this up first, the new lives that you nurtured and carried coming into the world are amazing! We are not comparing the littl'uns! The act of bringing them from 'growing area' to the world is what I want to hear about if you wish to say. Did you prefer the experience of labor with the epidural or without? And why?
@@phoenixmoon5580 oh definitely without the epidural. I think they are genius medicine honestly, and its so important women have the choice if they want them. For me, I don't like to feel like I'm out of control, don't like gigantic needles or being numb. So even though the labihr without it was painful, I felt it was a much more enjoyable experience. It went quite quickly and without fuss too.
@@vanderbam2741 I was wondering whether the being numb kinda made you feel you were somewhat distant, like being behind a glass panel, during your own labor. Or maybe if it was a movie the epidural labor would be in black and white due to the numbness. The pain is obviously one of the downsides to labor, but being able to feel what happens during childbirth like how the muscles naturally do what they do, how each step your baby takes out the birth canal might feel, how it feels afterwards, etc. It might make you feel more 'there', and if it was a movie it would be in technicolour. It is actually quite enviable on one hand for me. (Single and childless by choice. This is due to bad DNA from both awesome parents that a biological child is likely to inherit regardless of how amazing the hypothetical (currently non existant) partner's genetics are. Another major issue is that I am too ill to even manage to care for myself. Also my Mum had me 'late' in her words, and I'm older than she was when she had me). I feel sad that I won't experience what pregnancy, labor, birth, attempts at breast feeding etc would feel like. However, I feel it is the most responsible choice to make for welfare of any child. (Not to say others in my situation could not have children/care for children and be amazing parents. Just personally for me!).... You''ve got to be so careful on the internet these days! Eugh!
When my brother was born, he didn't cry. He literally just looked around and went to sleep. The next time they saw him awake, it was the next day and they were giving him a bath. Woke up when put in water and went back to sleep when being dried off. He was never a handful in the sense that he slept more than anything else and he's an extremely quiet child that was happy with his bottle and a nap. So they had a second child. Who screamed, cried, never slept more than an hour at a time, was impossible to get to rest, always got into things they shouldn't, and over all made them decide two was enough.
It’s amazing how personality can show up that early! I swear my youngest was a sensory seeker even in the womb. Never stopped moving and dancing around! He is 7 now, is autistic and constantly in motion.
That was me and my little sister. I was the perfect angel and my mum thought it would be nice to have another one... but the next was not a perfect angel 😂
That's me and my little sister too! But i was the always crying one, they tried to put me down to sleep and I'd immediately wake up to cry and scream until I'd be picked up and carried around again .. my sister slept so much, hardly ever woke up at night to scream, just a perfect little baby.
All of mine were quiet when born. The two first ones were breathing and looked a bit surprised, wrinkling their noses and looking around, so completely fine without screaming. My third one got a bit of a shock since he flew out of me like superman 😂 looked around with huge eyes and just held his breath! He was connected to the umbilical cord and it was still pulsating, so we were all good and simply rubbed him down, talked to him and very gently blew air on his face to prompt him to breathe in. At some point he got the hang of it. 😂
I remember being 7 months pregnant and women asking me if I can feel the baby kick and me saying no ....until one woman finally described what I would be feeling and thinking to myself...well, I've been feeling that for months. Who knew that was the baby moving. Pretty amazing. Nobody tells you these things in the beginning.
With my first pregnancy I didn't notice kicks until I was over half way through. At that point the kicks in the ribs and low down in the pelvis were pretty distinctive. With my second pregnancy I knew what to expect and recognized them at 13 weeks which is about as early as possible. Bigger baby pregnancy kicks just feel like quick pressure, like exactly as if a tiny foot is kicking you. Sometimes there are even rolling ones where it's like the baby is turning and you can feel pressure from inside moving across a few inches a the baby moves. Those ones are especially weird lol. Small baby kicks almost feel like if you have to poop and you can kinda feel it coming around the corner of your intestines, but the position is different since it's not coming from your intestines.
I’m currently pregnant with my first child and I’m kind of in a unique situation as far as being able to feel the baby. I’ve always heard it’s similar to gas pains, rumbling in your bowels and stomach. I have Crohn’s disease and had my entire colon removed a year ago. When I started to feel my baby, it felt like “normal” gas pains to me. Which is something I haven’t felt in so long, especially the last year. So I totally know when it’s him because I’ll get an rumble or push that’s like “hmm, I’m not suppose to have that.”
Limeila i explain in my comment but it feels kind of like gas pains or pressure. I’m 23 weeks along so I’m told I’ll be feeling my baby more he gets bigger but for now it feels like rumbles in your stomach or pelvis and I also get this blatant punch or kick where I feel quite a bit of discomfort for maybe a minute.
This is my favorite episode. They are so funny and cute. My 2nd daughter (during my csection), as soon as the dr had opened my uterus she popped her head out and tried to look around. The doctors were laughing so hard they had my husband look over the blue curtain to see and take a pic. They nicknamed her curiosity and wrote it on her crib tag with my last name.. She was the talk of the doctors and nurses for days..
"...ruin tv shows, while watching them together and commenting on the inaccuracies." My pharmacy tech mom watching any medical drama: "That's not what that drug is used for." I feel right at home watching these videos.
My mom said the same lol. She got an epidural but it wore off, and the kidney stone was still worse for her. I had a stone a few years ago, and the stabbing back pain was unbearable. I literally thought I was dying.
I havent had a baby, but when I passed my first kidney stone, I thought my appendix had burst and I was dying, only explanation my pain addled brain could come up with. Glad to hear giving birth isnt quite as painful lol
I’m 15 and I’ve have at least 5 kidney stones that I know of and I don’t think they are the worst thing in the world but it makes me think I would be a champ at giving birth
Imagine you're confused, don't speak the language, were just told you're pregnant, and they tell you to push and you just instinctively do it. I still get confused when I'm working out and they say tighten your core
Same! I always laugh at how big babies "just being born" in tv and film are. It's too funny. I always think about that fact that someone allowed other people to goop up their baby and make them look "just born" for money too.🤣 Sometimes they just show them all wrapped up in a blanket but often they try to make it look as real as possible and show the baby all bloody and goopy from birth..I just wonder what they are putting on the baby to make them look like that? Google, here I come!
@Matty Bruno Lucas Zenere Salas My cousin was 12lbs! Trust me, I know there are big newborns but often the newborns used are 2 or 3 months and it's pretty obvious they aren't newborn based on the average weight and size for newborns.
@Matty Bruno Lucas Zenere Salas I dont need to tell myself anything. It's a fact. She even said in the video that baby looked a few months old. No clue why you're so hell bent on arguing about it though. Just let it go kid.
@Matty Bruno Lucas Zenere Salas that's not as big as you've been lead to believe. A lot of people are having bigger babies these days because of better maternal nutrition. And no matter what, a newborn is not as filled out in the face as a 3 month old.
me: wait where her big belly....**then the brith bit** she not pregnant she stomach and she leg look fake....this acting and water look like waterfall ....ok I stop now
When you brought up the need to develop a relationship with your baby it reminded me of something my dad says sometimes. “I don’t just love you... I LIKE you.” You can love someone or something without necessarily liking them
I remember thinking “when is your mom coming to get you?” when my first was an infant. He was very colicky and I was very tired and had no clue what I was doing. So, yeah, that starry eyed wonderful love feeling doesn’t always happen right away. For the record, I realized in the same moment I AM the mom, no one is coming to get him, and we had better figure this out! Haha!
My parents had to do this a few times with emergency foster babies. Literally stopped at Walmart for basic supplies on the way home from the hospital. First time they didn’t even have a crib or bassinet and the baby spent her first night home in a clothes basket
TBH, most of the things expectant parents and their friends buy for the baby are not necessary. That oh-so-adorable holiday dress -- most likely not ever going to be worn, or only worn once and the next week it will not fit. Don't spring for expensive stuff that becomes useless! (VERY VERY QUICKLY.)
I really appreciate you sharing about your initial emotions of becoming a mother to a new baby. I don’t have a child yet, but having realistic expectations of what it will be like to become a mother to a new baby is probably going to be sooo helpful. I hear a lot about mothers who feel like bad moms because there’s not that head over heels moment. I’m all about realistic expectations. Thank you for sharing.
I commented on an earlier video about how my family is all horse trainers and breeders. Well, this starry eyed reaction isn't super realistic for animals either. We had a very sweet mare (female horse) that was having her first baby. She was always so gentle with us kids and never bit, kicked, or tried to run into us. My mom also taught her tons of tricks because she was her personal horse and the horse definitely preferred people over the other horses. So, our very sweet horse delivered the baby and immediately screamed, squealed, and tried to kick at her new son. It was like she had no idea what this thing was and oh my goodness get it away from her. My mom had to play intervention for a day to make sure mommy would allow baby to nurse. After that mommy loved her baby and was very good at keeping all the other horses from looking or touching her son lol. It was now HER baby.
When you're a flight attendant or work for an airline in any other capacity you usually have flying benefits. Each airline is different but usually the worker and their family can purchase plane tickets significantly cheaper. Also they have the option of purchasing standby tickets which are usually cheapest of all.
idk what airlines you are talking about bc all the ones around me do free tickets for the flight attendants, their spouse, and their parents. the only thing you have to pay is taxes on the tickets when friends come with you. if there are really flight attendants out there paying for tickets, they need to gtfo that job, because american, delta, and united don't.
@@sunnydell3016 But as you mentioned they aren't technically 'free', just the cut of the ticket the airline pays for is free. That's pretty much the same with every airline. I personally fly through a family member that works for a European airline (member of Star alliance). Next to the aforementioned standby tickets we can also purchase confirmed seats for much cheaper (for example over the holidays I flew round trip FRA-ORD for 223€). It's actually a great thing. So yeah F.A.s should quit their jobs and work for European airlines as I believe the benefits overall are much better.
@@Noah-kl8wn my husband works for an airline and we get 100% free tickets and full benefits. we are flying out in a couple of weeks. it's technically on standby but there are no fees whatsoever (UNLESS ! we want to travel overseas)
Ok guys I see a bit of confusion in the comments that I would like to clear up. We fly standby for free, only bap the taxes. These do not guarantee us a seat though. We also get a discount on full fare tickets which give us a normal seat like everyone else. Most companies allow the employee to keep their flying benefits for life if they have been with the company for 25 years. With united, you can only have flying benefits for your children until they are 26. Employee parents usually keep their flying benefits during their lives.
Oh I totally had that “starry eyed movie love”!!! I had my only child 3 months before I turned 20 and from the minute I knew she was in my tummy, she became my entire world. I always wanted lots of children!! I wanted a crazy, loud house full of kids! My first pregnancy unfortunately ended in miscarriage. I conceived my daughter with my second pregnancy, and then my husband and I tried for 20 years to give my little girl a sibling with no success. I have 5 babies in heaven and I can’t wait to meet them one day. As of right now, I’m 42 years old, and my dreams of having more children are over. I have finally come to terms with how my life played out. The biggest part of me finally being ok and not bursting into tears every time I see a pregnant woman, or having to remove myself from the room every time a diaper commercial comes on the television, was watching my miracle child; my daughter, as she has become a Mother herself! I cried myself to sleep every night for 20 years, but now I sleep soundly and wake with a smile every day. My daughter had a gorgeous baby boy in January of 2020, and she just delivered a second perfect baby boy in August of 2021, just a few weeks ago! I feel like the luckiest woman in the world!!! My grandsons Sage August, and Salem Jude have made all of my baby dreams come true. I didn’t realize that all of the feelings you have as a mother, for your babies, extend to your grandchildren! It’s the same love! It’s incredible and I truly believe that my struggles have made me appreciate the blessings of my baby boys even more than I would have if I didn’t ache so desperately and long for babies for so much of my life. I’m loving watching your videos, and am a brand new subscriber! Be well! Xx -Nora
When I had my baby, it was an emergency C-section and he was taken immediately to the NICU. I didn't have any instant connection (though I wanted it) to this little life and my sister and dad said that my little boy was the most beautiful thing they'd ever seen and they had a connection immediately. It's heartbreaking when you are the mother and everyone else seems to have that 'starry eyed moment' without you and you have to start your relationship from scratch in a hospital, only allowed to hold your baby twice a day.

Okay so i went to school to be a flight attendant, here’s how it works: -family can get flights that are free or inexpensive but if the seats fill(even after requesting to fill ___ amount), they and their family have to give up their seats (or how ever many they requested that were filled) and would either need to fly separate or withdraw the request completely. - flight attendants tend to have free flights to just about anywhere and are normally on an “on call” basis, and can start working where ever, the longer they have been with the company the more flexible and stable their schedule. When they get vacation time they can fly to anywhere and request to take vacation days, staying wherever they went, its a pretty awesome job.
Growing up, my parents would joke about my birth. My mom had just laundured bedsheets and at 10pm while in bed to journal her water broke 😅 she called her dad/my gpa to come take care of my 3 brothers and went straight to hospital, asked to get an epidural and the nurse said "you aren't getting an epidural, you're getting a baby" I was coming so fast the epidural wouldn't have time to help before it was all over. Born at 12:56am, less than three hours of active labor. My mom always laughs and tells me "you were lucky your dad was there to hold you that first day bc it took me some time to get over being annoyed, and then when I did finally hold you it was like 'okay, you are kinda cute'..." but yeah, it was understandably intense and that brief phase of "I would die for you but this is so surreal I need time rn" is so accurate. Totally fair if it takes a minute to start bonding, no matter the circumstances! 💜
I felt the same way with my daughter. There wasn't a connection at first. I loved her and cared for her but it was kinda like "Hi. My name's mommy. Nice to meet you." Handshake included. And now we're best buds. 😄❤
I'm a nanny and my mom-boss said the same thing. It's not uncommon, no one should feel bad! Hell, even if we are the only one to feel something, it's still not a choice. What we choose to do and say and believe is what defines us, not the neurochemical machinations of our wacky animal brains.
Thank you for that last part, I'm insanely scared of postpartum depression due to my mental health history. But knowing not everyone bonds 100% will help a lot with alleviating the "wtf is wrong with me" once my baby arrives.
Tova Vikström i don’t know if this is coincidence or not but the moms I knew that had postpartum depression did not eat a lot and/or did not eat nutritious foods. Eating lots of cooked veggies daily and protein 4 times a day is important. If you think about it, babies are mainly built of protein, their muscle, skin, etc. so eating protein multiple times a day means a steady supply to the fetus. ( a serving of protein is 2 cooked eggs or a piece of chicken or beef the size of your palm. ) Healthy fats like olive oil, whole milk and yogurt instead of skim are needed to grow nerve and brain cells for you and your baby. And eating well after delivery matters a lot so you can heal quickly and breast feed nutritious milk. Having someone food shop good food and perhaps cook would be very helpful in those first two weeks. I found and still do that eating sugary foods makes me feel depressed an hour after eating them, so I avoid them. It took me years to figure that out but seems so obvious now. Also the lack of sleep a new mom experiences can make feeling depressed easier, so nap whenever the baby sleeps. The chores are not as important as sleep! I am eternally grateful that my GYN doctor has a midwife on staff who took the time to explain the importance of nutrition at length and sleep! My 3 children were all 8 pounds, chubby with nice hair! And my milk supply was good right from day one, they all gained weight before we left the hospital, which is unusual. Motherhood is a wonderful adventure if that is your dream!
Tova Vikström I have battled with depression off and on my whole life and when I got pregnant, I just assumed I would develop postpartum depression and I found a psychologist ahead of time and made sure everything was in place before I delivered. Sure enough, PPD hit hard around month 3 after I delivered and it was actually a huge relief to already have a doctor in place to call and say “I need help.” Like Mama Doctor Jones says, be kind to yourself, and its always ok to ask for help. And most importantly, you are not alone. PPD/PPA can make you feel so very alone, but you aren’t. Even if its just, you come to the internet to talk with the rest of us, that’s ok too. You’ve got this! And pre-congratulations!
Definitely talk with doctor about maybe some options that could help? It's perfectly normal not to feel attached right away. Not everyone experience labor and afterwards the same.🙂
Me too. I’m 3 weeks postpartum and pretty stable on just one antidepressant (previously took 2 before I was pregnant). I have definitely bonded with my baby but also have had some frustrations as well, which is normal for being emotional and sleep deprived. I’m glad I have a lot of support though in case my mental health changes.
As a grandmother of 5, I loved all of my grandchildren from the start. But, sometime in the first year or so, I had a moment with each of them. That's when it went next level. So, I understand what you were saying at the end.
The first reaction in my head as they placed my newborn girl on my chest was "oh f***, this is a lot of responsibility". Obviously I love her, but it's a really weird moment of having this brand new person in your life that you really know nothing about relying on you for literally everything.
Same!!!! Got pregnant at 16 due to my nexplanon failing. Hadn’t changed a diaper or even babysat prior to having my daughter. I love her obviously but it’s a hardcore adjustment to say the least
@@phishyboic959 I was pretty much the same. I was the youngest in my family by 13 years, never baby sat before or changed a diaper, and never want even liked kids. My pregnancy was a happy little accident and when they did lay her on my chest that first time I didn't realize quite what I was getting myself into.
Haha I definitely feel that way too! My first thought was how perfect he was, but then also “oh crap, this is changing my entire life.” My son is 3 weeks old and I love him so much but an unplanned pregnancy at 20 definitely changed things for me
I started crying when I brought mine home. I just looked at her in the car seat and freaked out cuz I didnt know what to do! I was 30 years old. I did all the reading. I babysat for years. You're never really prepared.
I had PPD, with primal love for my son when he was a baby. I cared that he was feed, played with, ect. I enjoyed it when he learned a new thing. But I didn't like him as a person until 2-3. I never really liked babies before having one. And I still didn't with my own. Babies feel like a screaming tomagotchi where the stakes are too high if I fail. Now that he's 5 and wanting to learn about art and science, We connect way better. I get to mother in subjects that I enjoy, and he gets a present engaged parent with a love of why questions. We've found our stride...I do feel like it took longer then I saw with the mothers around me. I always felt like a distant/cold mother in his early years because of that.
Nez Corvid I feel sad for you, because the intense wonderful ness of those feelings are so great. But fact that you were aware and provided good care is very insightful.
This is more common than people like to admit, and even when they do, they tend to sugar coat the feelings for the sake of appearances or being judged. My OBGYN explained her situation as this: "When we [Her and her Husband] decided to have kids he was all about the baby stuff. The toys, the toes, and all of the 'firsts'. I was always more interested in them as a person, or when they became one at least. I couldn't wait to get to know them and have conversations with them. Like I'd day dream of what classes would interest them. Would they want to go to college or pick up a trade? Would they wanna be a movie star? Or just the beer and fishing type? The world of possibilities was just so fascinating. And it was a gift I would get to open everyday in like 10/12ish years." She's had three girls, all are in their 20s and while she has no interest in returning to the baby years, she said she seemed to avoid the empty nest feelings because she was never so encapsulated in the raising aspect. She loves getting updates on their hobbies and life and she's just so excited to have seen them grow into adults and spend time with them.
When I had my baby, for months I just felt like I was honored with the opportunity to babysit and care for a baby indefinitely. It took awhile for it to sink in that he was my son. I loved him from the beginning, but it took a while to really feel he was my child.
That’s basically how I felt with my youngest brother. Even though I’m the oldest and I can remember 2 of my brothers being born (I was a baby when I became a big sister) it took a while to feel like the baby was my actual little brother.
Exactly how I felt. The bond grew but it took months. Even though I was nursing him too-oddly enough it took months. Sometimes it’s not instant magic and that’s ok.
Usually they make the baby cry to ensure their healthy. That’s where the “spanking a newborn” came from. You were trying to induce crying. Now we just pinch them so they cry.
I thank you for talking about delayed starry eyed love. With my first I was told over and over I would "instantly" love my baby. When she came and I just felt tired and overwhelmed and like I just had a random kid I felt like I had done something wrong. After talking to my mom she reassured me that that too was a normal response and that bonding can take time. I love my first baby and have a great relationship with her now (she's 7, man time flies!). I think it's so important to let pregnant women and moms know that there are all kinds of feelings they might have and they are all ok and normal.
People who shame others for their childbirth/new motherhood experiences drive me NUTS. We are what we choose to do and say and believe, not whatever feels or thoughts our messed-up, organic animal brains throw at us. The motherhood myth in our culture is deeply toxic in so many ways.
I just love how you emphasise that. I was so exhausted after giving birth to our oldest, I had no idea what I was feeling. His father's smile was lighting up the room, and I just looked at him holding the baby in wonder.
Thank you so much for talking about how not everyone has the movie picture perfect starry eyed love at first sight with their baby! I also felt like something was wrong with me but just needed time to get to know my child.
I want to comment on the "instant connection" with a new born.... I also didn't have that "starry eyed" romantic movie connection with my daughter the moment I saw her. I loved her, more than anything, but like Dr Jones, it took me some time to get to know her. Once we were outta the hospital & we were home where I didn't have all of those distractions & ppl around, she became my sun & stars. So I wanted to also let women know that it's ok if it's not instantaneous. 💜💙💜💙💜
That's what happen to me. Seeing her right after birth I was happy but I didn't cry due to being overjoyed. It took untill I was home for a couple days for it to really HIT me.
Passed a kidney sound a couple of months after labour. Very similar pain, not constant and comes in waves, bad enough that you're crawling around on the floor trying not to pass out. Recovery was faster after a stone, a few mls in size, little bit of bleeding, some soreness, antibiotics for a concurrent infection. Recovery from labour took longer and was more uncomfortable. The pain was more bearable, less feeling like passing out, less sharp feeling contractions. But very similar type of experience. Contractions that build up sort of pain.
I had a coworker pass out from pain from kidney stones once and when she came to she was like "no biggie, happens all the time". Like... giiiirl.. what the heck. They're obviously no joke.
@@meljstephan you do start to get used to it if you're a recurrent sufferer. I don't bother with hospital unless I need serious pain management. I get a midline put in so I can get IV antibiotics at home. I have kidney problems so I'm used to intense pain in that area. I want to be comfy at home. I pass out a lot with moderate/ severe abdominal pain too and you do have to be matter of fact about it, otherwise folks start panicking and calling ambulances. I have an over active vasovagal reaction, so long as I get down and let it pass, I'm good. I only need intervention if I fall or injure myself on the way down. Things that could be helpful if you see that again are putting something down so they are comfortable, ensuring they lay in recovery position, a cool wet flannel or towel for the back of their neck, a glass of water or juice for afterwards, having a chair available so the can get up into it slowly before standing (So they don't go down again getting up too quickly), and encouraging folks to give space and get on if it happens in public because it's embarrassing having a big audience.
@@KatyPlusOne I'm the same with period pain and it's exactly like you said, you have to be super reassuring and factual to keep people from panicking, calling an ambulance, feeling obligated to stay with you etc
@@Attilablabla I had a fainting spell in Birmingham New Street train station. I had my five year old with me, so I held on until I got to the customer service, then went down in the waiting area. I had to reassure the staff more than my daughter, who understood I'd get up again soon lol
When I first held my baby I had the starry eyed moment, but honestly chalk it up to the fact that I hadn't slept for 22 hours and I was all drugged up. After I was rested and more aware I felt I more truly seen him for the first time. I loved him, but as said he was a stranger. I had no clue what he was like. I was a first time mom who grew up having a difficult life and I felt guilty for bringing this poor defenseless life into this world. He gave me a reason to see that life is only as difficult as you make it though and things can always change. He is a happy little chunker butt and I'm happy to say that I have another bun in the oven.
I describe the feeling for a new baby not as love, but a mix of awe and a deep sense responsibility and protectiveness toward them. Honestly, it wasn't love at first sight...I didn't know them.
When I had my son, there was definitely an adjustment period where I had to find a way to combine the one-sided relationship I'd had with the version of him that was in my head before he was born, with the new relationship I needed to form with the actual him. I don't think I'm saying that very clearly but it was sort of like the real child had to overlay the imagined child.
I have heard other mothers say things very similar to this. Parents have this idea of what their baby is going to be like when s/he's born and suddenly here's this little person who has their own likes and dislikes and their own personality completely different from what the parents expected. It takes a while to adjust to that.
It actually happened to my aunt twice! After my oldest cousin was born, she stopped having her period, so that wasn’t an indicator, and she wrote the weight gain and sickness off as just, you know, she’s not eating great or it’s a stomach bug, or anything else. After my second cousin was born, she didn’t want that to happen again, so she got her tubes tied. Since it was immediately after birth, everything healed and went back to normal (it’s still a crazy small chance, but whenever it reverses it’s bc they were tied right after birth) and the same thing happened where she completely didn’t know until like, 2nd trimester at least. It was a wild ride for her and our family
Lol I didn’t know I was pregnant till I was 19 weeks I had period I grabbed a test not even thinking I was, I would always check periodically to be safe and I’ll tell you what when I took the test I thought I was only like a couple of weeks but no I was way longer the 2 weeks
Same omg!! Like I found out at 6 weeks but I don’t know how some women can be 6 months and not know. The human body is crazy. Sometimes you don’t gain that much weight and there’s no visible bump, sometimes you have very few symptoms of being pregnant... idk how but I’ve heard so many stories like that!
Thank you! I didn't have the 'movie' experience with either of my children and was so ashamed of that. My first baby was a stillbirth at 20wks so I had put my feelings on a shelf and labeled it ppd, now I know it's actually common. Love watching your channel x Note : I have two beautiful kids and my feelings are so so strong. Now I have the movie experience of I would sacrifice myself for them x 🥰🥰
Martine Robson you can’t legally put a newborn on TV. They have to use dolls or older children. Idk how they get around it for like Huggies commercials and stuff but I remember it was talked about in some documentary I watched.
@@ivyrose5153 They definitely can, and do. I used to work for a Theatrical Agency, and one of my job's was to call Maternity Wards and Birthing Centres to find newborns for TV shows. We usually tried to find twins, but they weren't always available for obvious reasons.
Watched you with my breakfast today - I have an exam shortly (funny enough, in my OB/peds nursing class!) and this will no doubt relax me. Thank you for your content, especially after all that you went through to post. You’re a trooper! 💕
mostly its just leave her alone, and have help on hand in case of too much post partum bleeding. birth does not often require any real intervention, and is rarely an emergency.
I was a flight attendant for United Airlines for six years. My absolute favorite time in the business was the year that I flew internationally and did nothing but jet back and forth to the UK. We were able to fly domestically for free, so when my sister lived in Hawaii I was able to go a couple of times to see her at no cost. International flights were not free, but very cheap compared to paying full fare. As with any job, there were things about it that were great as well as things that weren’t. I left the airline after getting married because I just really wanted to have a more regular schedule and be home with my husband. I have never regretted leaving, especially after having kids. It’s a lifestyle that I have no interest in anymore now that I have a family.
I personally think it would be beneficial to get it updated on your drivers liscense that your pregnant to avoid cigarette and alcohol sales and it just promotes more awareness of the woman's health in other situations as well- like flight.
At the end when you mention the Starry eyed feeling. I didn’t feel that with my first but I definitely felt that with my second. But I also did have postpartum depression with my first and I believe depression during my pregnancy as well.
When my kids were born I didn't have that starry-eyed love thing either. The thing that blew my mind was how something that size came out of my body. Like was literally the first thing I thought every time I looked at my baby, for like a week I was like "dang, I can't believe you came out of me, let's get that diaper changed".
I had a mix, like total love on a deep gut level, I guess like a bond? But also just felt totally surreal that she even existed and I didn't feel like "Mom" was part of my identity until she was like 18 months.
Same with me to an extent. I was on nexplanon but due to my bipolar medication (primarily used as a medication for seizures) it failed and I got pregnant at 16. I loved her at first sight but wasn’t really emotionally connected till at least 20 weeks pregnant and not totally until she was born. Never had any prior experience with children/babies so it was pretty damn weird. Somehow got a bad uterus infection when she was 1 1/2 weeks old and was hospitalized for a week so adjusting to that and practically re-learning everything was difficult.Every birth story is different and that’s totally okay! 🥰 Way to go momma
@@phishyboic959 oy. I got an infection too, but at 25 weeks. I almost lost her, and had to be put in intravenous antibiotics in the hospital overnight then was sent home with oral ones and strict bedrest for a month-- the infection was attacking her placenta. It was all cleared up by the time she was full term and they put me on an IV antibiotic during labor just in case to avoid what happened with you.
Pamela M. M. Berkeley I’m glad everything turned out well!! I had a vaginal delivery with no complications which only took 9 hours(although I had borderline preeclampsia) so it was pretty unexpected. In hindsight I was pretty damn lucky.
No but I'm sure it does happen 🤔 I'm curious now what the statistics are of people who didn't know they were pregnant until labor or late pregnancy keeping/giving up their child(ren)?
The moment I laid eyes on my daughter I fell head over heels in love (starry-eyed) but when my daughter had a daughter of her own (she was 27 y.o. at the time) it took her a couple of weeks to really bond. It just happens that way.
I love this series so much, it always cracks me up to see the “hmm that’s not exactly right” face Mama Dr Jones makes during the episode 😂 I love this channel! Thank you for all you do!
I'm so glad you said that at the end. I denied my pregnancy the entire time and when they finally put him on my chest, I loved him but I wasn't like "oh my God he's finally here." It was more like "oh god why am I going to do now?"
FYI for the flight attendent thing (I work in the aviation industry): first off, they get paid between $20 000 - $30 000 a year, so just keep that in mind. Secondly, how it works through most major airlines is that both the person who works for the airline and their parents get unlimited pass flights, and others in their direct family get like 4 pass flights through the year (have to be accompanied by the person who works for the airline), then there are some pass flights that they can select someone to receive but they have to be travelling with them. My old airline also used to allow me to give out discounts (10% off flights to friends and 20% off to family), at like 10 discounts per year. The pass flights aren't free...you have to pay taxes on the flight (so usually the entire flight is like 70% off). You do not have a confirmed seat. If the flight is full of "paying customers," even the last seat is purchased an hour before the flight and you've already checked in, you don't get to fly (the general recommendation is to never check luggage). Others with passes may also take those seats from you if they have more seniority in the airline. Also you have to dress according to the airline's dress code (usually business casual).
@@marinak4452 Somewhat yes, but everything I talked about was the standard agreement that exists through the Star Alliance, which covers 26 major airlines around the world.
That's so interesting to hear... One of my parents works for a European airline - we live in Europe. We all get to fly standby unlimited all year round but us kids only till the age 24. Then there are other options like you can buy a confirmed seat for a bit more than the standby flight but not as much as full fare. Then there's also another account with a certain number of miles that gets reloaded every year were you pay next to nothing for a confirmed seat. (For example I flew FRA-ORD round trip with confirmed seat for 223€) Then there are also vacation flights which are free. They don't have the passes over here... Edit: She works for an airline in the Star alliance, a pretty prominent one I might add 😉
A friend of mine works for a Star Alliance airline as well (not a flight attendant, nor a pilot, just a regular office job at an airline) and she has to pay only 10% of the regular price (= every flight is 90% off). However it is true that these are non-confirmed seats so she flies first or business class in general (usually not overbooked)... And can book tickets for friends and family as well! She also earns a decent amount of money - way more than a flight attendant.
Even though I’m not planning on being pregnant anytime soon, I love watching your videos and learning new things. I wish UA-cam would stop flagging them. And is that our little carrot friend back?
Yes as a first time mom at 21 I didn’t know what to expect but once my son was born a breathed a HUGE sigh of relief for my body, and next was hearing my son cry and then holding him. The nurturing love was there right away and then total love within 24 hours (which I was understandably sleeping for most of). 9 lb 10 oz baby boy. 💙 Best feeling ever. 💝
Meloney Ashworth Yes so rare! I’m 7 months pregnant with our second child right now and my legs are killing me and I can barely walk. Im expecting to have the same labour again this time too.
As a rad tech I’ve always wondered why flight attendants don’t wear dosimeters like we do. They’re exposed more than we are... if they do wear them... they are very well hidden 😂
I used to be a flight attendant and girls who got pregnant were on ground duty (not flying, in the office at the airport) as soon as they find out about pregnancy. And I believe it’s very similar in every airline. Greetings x
My oldest baby didn't cry when born. I was so scared. The doctor said "he's looking around. He's fine". I thought he was lying until they brought him to me while they were stitching me up. Yup he was fine. Just looking.

Wow we had something similar... my mom was screaming in agony for her first pregnancy with my older brother, she was laughing because I was a c-section and she was so relieved that it wasn't as painful as the first pregnancy, and she was singing to the music with my little brother.

Kris Niznik Exactly
Totally agree!

This comment is hilarious but also entirely accurate! 😂
There's actually been studies showing that it's easier to learn languages as an adult (as in grammar and vocabulary). It's just easier to learn accents/different sounds you're not used to as a child.
@@TheOldiie And that's why young toddlers can easily learn multiple languages in a year or two and it usually takes adults 4-7 years
There’s advantages and disadvantages to second language acquisition in both children and adults.

I’m sure she has an amazing story too! Humanity for the win 🥇 ❤

My second baby didn't cry when she was born, she was just looking around and checking everyone out

But I’ve always said fresh new borns aren’t cute and it does take them a few days to get cute 😂
They’re all wrinkly from being in the amniotic fluid, can be puffy from birth etc etc
But after a few days is when you really start to see them get way cuter! 😂
there is no cute newborn baby. they are slimy and gross and look like mutant potatoes.
Hey, this is what my mom says about me! Apparently, my brother was a bigger baby and slightly cuter at birth

This was exactly the same with me and my brother. I was the quiet one tho 😂😂
Literally me and my sister
Mine was quiet to looking around the room just as calm.
I'm curious, how does it actually feel?
Limeila it feels like you have to fart

I always think about that fact that someone allowed other people to goop up their baby and make them look "just born" for money too.🤣 Sometimes they just show them all wrapped up in a blanket but often they try to make it look as real as possible and show the baby all bloody and goopy from birth..I just wonder what they are putting on the baby to make them look like that? @Matty Bruno Lucas Zenere Salas that's not as big as you've been lead to believe. A lot of people are having bigger babies these days because of better maternal nutrition. And no matter what, a newborn is not as filled out in the face as a 3 month old.

My parents had to do this a few times with emergency foster babies. Literally stopped at Walmart for basic supplies on the way home from the hospital. First time they didn’t even have a crib or bassinet and the baby spent her first night home in a clothes basket
Yeah…it’s sort of like that when your child is born more than three months early. We never got parenting classes or even a hospital tour.
TBH, most of the things expectant parents and their friends buy for the baby are not necessary.

I've heard one giving one free ticket for entire 1st degree family once a year, then at very discounted rate after retirement
idk what airlines you are talking about bc all the ones around me do free tickets for the flight attendants, their spouse, and their parents. the only thing you have to pay is taxes on the tickets when friends come with you. if there are really flight attendants out there paying for tickets, they need to gtfo that job, because american, delta, and united don't.

Okay so i went to school to be a flight attendant, here’s how it works:
-family can get flights that are free or inexpensive but if the seats fill(even after requesting to fill ___ amount), they and their family have to give up their seats (or how ever many they requested that were filled) and would either need to fly separate or withdraw the request completely.

And it was a gift I would get to open everyday in like 10/12ish years."
She's had three girls, all are in their 20s and while she has no interest in returning to the baby years, she said she seemed to avoid the empty nest feelings because she was never so encapsulated in the raising aspect. She loves getting updates on their hobbies and life and she's just so excited to have seen them grow into adults and spend time with them.
I'm definitely stealing the phrase "Screaming Tamagotchi with higher stakes if I fail."
Oh awww
My first son didn't cry when he came out. He just laid on me, sucked his thumb and fell asleep
Aaww that's so cute. I hope my baby is like that :)
My daughter didn’t cry either when she came out. She didn’t cry until the next day and we had to flick her foot 😆
The motherhood myth in our culture is deeply toxic in so many ways.
i’ve never been so thrilled to get a pre-roll ad, haha. glad you got it all worked out! even if it made me see mike bloomberg...
jami lyn it made me see a Lumē deodorant musical so I’m not complaining 😅
I got of those in a row... Lumē and Mike Bloomberg
It's funny that labor makes you feel like you're dying when it's bringing life into the world

@@S_u_n_Flower_ You mean, Adam's sculpted bone ?
@@captivated388 Well yes but no. Eve ate it first and as her punishment she got pain from delivery.
I love how emotionally touched you get in every video!!! Usually OBs are so used to pregnancy and birth it's just a job to them
Passed a kidney sound a couple of months after labour.
@@KatyPlusOne Yeah, she made us all swear we'd never call an ambulance for her. I felt so bad for her
@@Attilablabla I had a fainting spell in Birmingham New Street train station.

It makes sense, we all have our fantasy children in our heads and imagine how they'll be, then when they come they're completely different lol.
I have heard other mothers say things very similar to this. Parents have this idea of what their baby is going to be like when s/he's born and suddenly here's this little person who has their own likes and dislikes and their own personality completely different from what the parents expected. It takes a while to adjust to that.
After having been pregnant myself I cannot fathom how a woman doesn’t know she’s pregnant, it baffles me every time I see this show 🤷🏼♀️
Right? While I'd still want to know if I'm pregnant, I'd love to have a pregnancy so easy that I could've not known.
I have a close friend who claims she didn't know, but I think she was in denial and just didn't know how to tell her parents...but I think she knew.
Wharton’s Jelly sounds like an old timey lube brand

Thank you! I didn't have the 'movie' experience with either of my children and was so ashamed of that. My first baby was a stillbirth at 20wks so I had put my feelings on a shelf and labeled it ppd, now I know it's actually common. Love watching your channel x
Note : I have two beautiful kids and my feelings are so so strong. Now I have the movie experience of I would sacrifice myself for them x 🥰🥰
I love how in the reconstruction she apparently gave birth to a 4 year old.
A baby has to be at least eighteen days old before they can be filmed, and have very limited time they can be filmed, but they can film babies.

Video idea: how to deliver a baby in case of emergency with no health professional around😁
I agree
Amelia Barton yh maybe but if she is allowed to i hope she will make one cause that would be so cool lol
Call 000 at the time, they will talk you through it!
mostly its just leave her alone, and have help on hand in case of too much post partum bleeding. birth does not often require any real intervention, and is rarely an emergency.
It could cause panic if things don't go according to "plan" and in an emergency not all equipment would obviously be available
I’ve always wondered this - how can an airline tell if a woman is 35+ weeks pregnant to reject them?
I flew when I was very obviously 38 weeks pregnant.
I had a doctor's note but no one asked at 38weeks
They probably ask them how far along they are
Is it a safety thing or an effort to prevent in flight labor and delivery? Could you imagine?
I personally think it would be beneficial to get it updated on your drivers liscense that your pregnant to avoid cigarette and alcohol sales and it just promotes more awareness of the woman's health in other situations as well- like flight.

At the end when you mention the Starry eyed feeling. I didn’t feel that with my first but I definitely felt that with my second. But I also did have postpartum depression with my first and I believe depression during my pregnancy as well.
Totally normal. I have friends that went through it.🙂

Ha ha. That’s funny 😆
I always find it interesting when people don't know they are pregnant... 😅
I find it scary😂
I loved these shows as a child, this and Untold Stories of The ER
Do they have any episodes of this show where the mom/parents were just like “nahhh... I don’t want a baby”?
No but I'm sure it does happen 🤔 I'm curious now what the statistics are of people who didn't know they were pregnant until labor or late pregnancy keeping/giving up their child(ren)?
Yayyy!!! It’s out! And I see ads! Watching now 🤗
The moment I laid eyes on my daughter I fell head over heels in love (starry-eyed) but when my daughter had a daughter of her own (she was 27 y.o. at the time) it took her a couple of weeks to really bond.
It depends on the country and airline though.
Sounds like you have to be pretty fluid with plans to take advantage!
I wasn’t immediately in love. I was too high from the anesthesia. I didn’t even know what planet I was on.

As a rad tech I’ve always wondered why flight attendants don’t wear dosimeters like we do. They’re exposed more than we are... if they do wear them... they are very well hidden 😂
Nuc med tech student here and I was wondering the same thing! Really glad the radiation exposure concern was brought up in this video!
They log their flight hours and exposure is calculated that way (in Germany at least).
I used to be a flight attendant and girls who got pregnant were on ground duty (not flying, in the office at the airport) as soon as they find out about pregnancy. And I believe it’s very similar in every airline. Greetings x
