    When I was pregnant with my twins, I was put on modified bed rest by my perinatologist/MFM. I had a subchorionic hematoma, placenta previa, and preexisting chronic hypertension (managed by medication), neurofibromatosis, inappropriate sinus tachycardia, and beta-thalassemia. I was forbidden from exercise and told to avoid going out in the sun (this was in South Florida). For me, it was the right move medically; I delivered at 36+2 but I was never in labor or dilated. I had an "urgent" c-section due to early signs of preeclampsia. I'm one of those rare instances in which bedrest is medically indicated.

    • @MamaDoctorJones
      @MamaDoctorJones  4 роки тому +1702

      Placenta previa and bleeding are definitely very different situations than using complete bed rest purely for preterm labor prevention. And any person’s personal recommendations from their doctor, and certainly from an MFM specialist, will always rank above me talking general information about pregnancy!

      @@MamaDoctorJones I should add that I wore compression socks and kept my feet elevated, in an effort to prevent clots.
      I'm currently pregnant with a singleton (in a different state) and although not on bedrest, was still advised to limit physical activity, mainly because of my IST (and HPT), the slightest exertion causes my heart rate to skyrocket, which can affect the fetus.

    It feels like mother nature got PISSED TF OFF at the doctor who told the poor woman she would never have kids, and went like "oh yeah? lets see about that shall we".

The ones born from the strong uterus were natural births & the ones born from the weak uterus were c-sections. That information was weird to hear as a teenager and the biology teacher could not explain how it possible to have 2 uteri. Thank you for the info!

    Wow only 70 cases documented? My brother and I were one of those 30 years ago!
    My mother has a bicornuate uterus with 1 kidney. She was told like the woman in the video that it would be very difficult to conceive. They thought my oldest sister was their “miracle baby”. 6 years later they had another girl. Then my brother and I came along. My mother carried my 3 siblings in her left uterus, I was the only one who was carried on the right. I wonder if there is any data on women with double uterus’s favoring one side over the other?
    Anyway with the many inaccuracies in the video I will take it with a grain of salt, but it’s cool to think I was a part of a medical rarity. Thanks mom!

    Yeah, my sister had a retroverted uterus. In the 70s, her doctor told her "You'll never have babies." Okay, well, no need to bother with birth control then, eh?
    Her surprise pregnancy resulted in a daughter who was delivered by emergency cesarean when she was 7 months along.
    That little girl eventually went from a 4 lb. 7 oz. infant to an adult who was 6 ft. tall in her socks - taller than the brother who followed 18 months later.

    At 19 had a large tumor removed from her uterus, informed that the scarring made her infertile.
    At 25 enters into a monogamous relationship, several months later goes to her doctor who says she can't be pregnant. A couple more months pass, she goes to a different doctor who says, it is highly unlikely, but let's do a pregnancy test just to cover our bases. She was 5 months along.
    Healthy baby boy born, she is told to love him as she will never have another.
    6 months later, while using a diaphragm and spermicide, she has similar symptoms. Baby boy #2 born 7 months later.
    Now using oral contraceptives and diaphragm with spermicide, she begins having symptoms a year later. Baby boy #3 born healthy.
    She is told that another pregnancy could kill her. She plans to have tubal ligation with in the next year. Meanwhile, using the pill, diaphragm, spermicide, and condoms she gets pregnant with baby boy #4. The doctor says that it could kill her. She chooses to carry. As soon as he is delivered via c-section they do an immediate hysterectomy as it was agreed she needed it out.

    How is having two uteri more devastating than a miscarriage? I'd be like 'do they both work? Ok how interesting, I'm unique'. More devastating would be finding out you have no uterus.

      Evergreen Tree I have none cominicating which means a baby wouldn't be able to get out without a c section if I got pregnant in one of my sides.
      My periods never had a way out so filled up for years, making me be in full term labour EVERY day, ALL day for Year's! I was 14 when I went through my first surgery and after I felt like I had miscarried as I had gone though all the pain yet I didn't receive my ’baby’ at the end of it, really messed me up! I'm 20 now and have decided not to have a baby as my working uterus isn't strong enough to carry a healthy baby long enough. My doctor said it's possible but very risky and I wouldn't want to put mine or babies health at such a risk but that doesn't make a decision so big any easier.

    My first son was born at 24 weeks 0 days. My ex husband was very abusive & he caused me to go into labor after beating me & pushing me down the stairs. It happened so fast. My son was born on the floor in my bathroom. I was all alone. He breathed for 6 minutes & then died in my arms. The doctors said I had to hit 28 weeks for him to have ever had a chance, even in a hospital. I never believed that. They even doubted me when I told them he was alive when he was born. It makes me feel better knowing that those doctors were wrong & he could have made it.

From what we know, human sexuality is incredibly fluid and fewer people are exclusively sexually active with one gender (of the multitude of genders out there) only through out their lifetimes. • @Annie_Annie__
      @Annie_Annie__ 3 роки тому +4

      Carla Hallabrin Yep. I have endometriosis and PCOS and often don’t ovulate. I’ve been charting my cycles for over 12 years. It’s pretty rare that I ovulate and not know it (and from previous experience trying to get pregnant, without fertility meds, even when I do ovulate it’s never or almost never a viable egg).
      But still if I go to the doctor and tell them my LMP was 3 months ago (which is entirely normal for me) they’ll freak out, insist I must be pregnant, and when I balk they make me take a pregnancy test. And when it comes up negative, they assume something was wrong with the test and have me take a 2nd one. 🙄
      I’m 37, have never had a “natural” pregnancy (and only one with assistance), and I still can’t set foot in a doctors office or ER without them making me take a pregnancy test unless I am actively on my period at that moment.
      And if I say I can’t be pregnant because I haven’t ovulated, they look at me like I have a screw loose and are debating whether I’m just stupid or if they need to call Psych down.
      I’ve been told by multiple medical professionals (nurses, nurse practitioners, and doctors) that it’s not possible for a woman to know whether or not she’s ovulated. It’s so frustrating.

      My mother in law also had a "wall" in the middle of her uterus. She was told it was because her mother took a form of estrogen while pregnant that was commonly used in the 1950-70s to try and prevent miscarriage. It turns out it caused birth defects and abnormalities in the reproductive tracts of the babies born from those pregnancies where the medicine was taken. I wonder if that's what caused your ex's mom's "wall"? My mother in law couldn't get pregnant with hers and had to have a surgery to remove the wall (she had one complete uterus that I think was only partially "walled" off). After that she had three boys, and healthy pregnancies (except for one early miscarriage), except she had to get circlause because her cervix wasn't strong enough to last throughout the pregnancy (also an effect of the medicine her mother took). They really thought the form of estrogen taken during pregnancy would help prevent miscarriage. So incredibly sad that it affected the fertility and general health of so many people. To make it worse, it was later proven that it didn't actually help prevent miscarriage, it actually raised the risk of it.

      Totally understandable, but there is a mucus plug that develops at the cervix to block it off, so no more semen can enter once you're already pregnant.

    Thank you. I know so many people who were told one thing or another that they understood as "you cannot get pregnant" so the didn't bother with birth control and now have kids that they didn't have the time, money, or love for.
