    Gotta agree with you on all points there. I wanted an 09 last year, but I test rode it and I wasn't sold on it. So I was contemplating it over the fall and boom these beauties dropped! Put a deposit down in November, and picked it up in the dark metallic red about a month ago. Almost 1000 km later and it feels amazing. I have everything dialed in for my weight and the bike is solid. Up here, we have tones of potholes and road snakes, but she eats them up like nothing. Gravel too.

      They're 9K, but even that is a bargain for what you're getting.

      James Townsey Still better than $13,000 for the FZ-10.

    The most useful review of the new FZ09 I've watched so far... I currently ride a SV650A and I've got my eyes on this new FZ09 as my next bike so, watching your reviews (SV650A and FZ09) back to back was priceless! Now I know that I have to be cautious about the seat height and center of gravity. By the way, your comments on SV650A are totally accurate.

      How tall are you? I'm 5'10 w/30" inseam and i can have both feet on the ground if they're on the balls of my feet. Or one foot firmly planted with the smallest of leans.

    • @subtlegroove9867
      @subtlegroove9867 7 років тому

      Jordan Blanchette We're exactly the same, 5'10 with W30 inseam!! This is great news to me as it eliminates the most important problem in my riding habit. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

    A 3 cyl motor is a really good motorcycle power plant. "Almost the Torque of a Twin" and "Almost the top end of an inline 4 cyl. One of my bikes, is a 2001 955i Triumph Sprint ST. The Howl of a 3 is Awesome ! I own a Victory Cross Country for touring, so I think the Yamaha FZ09 is a good replacement for the Triumph. And I will still have the Triple Sound with the Yamaha. Great Review Bryan.

    The comfort seat elevates the seat height a little but it's a nice upgrade. Yamaha really hit a homerun with the 2017 FZ-09.

    Great review! Loved my First Ride of this 2017 FZ-09 last week. Many great improvements over previous years. Yamaha's color choices in NA leave something to be desired, worse in Canada vs. USA imho. Beyond that performance per dollar is hard to beat!

      I agree - I love the blue and grey options they have overseas this year. The white and silver look like unpainted kids models, red is the only good option at all here right now.

    You said you are 6'2" with 32" inseam. I'm exactly the same size. You are talking about how the suspension is much approved but how much do you weigh? Do you think this bike would accommodate a 140# passenger well for 150 mile Saturday rides?

    It's got a small tank; 14L.
    Doesn't the bike have a quickshifter for upward gear changes?

    • @Tommahawkk
      @Tommahawkk 7 років тому

      Only the MT 09 does as a standard. The american FZ doesnt have it stock.

    • @Eulsam_FZ
      @Eulsam_FZ 7 років тому

      But its wired for one. And though it's a small tank, I have gotten around 240 highway on a single tank. Of course, that's not pinning it wide open.

    • @1990-t1j
      @1990-t1j 7 років тому

      240 miles on a tank is good.
      In Britain, the quickshifter comes as standard. That's what confused me.

      TC yes. The QS here is optional and is up only, with very mixed reviews especially at lower RPMs. I only find them useful when they are both up and down personally. BMW does it best.

    • @Xerdoz

      Atleast the quickshifter in S1000R is garbage. It's like poking a sponge with your foot. No feel whatsoever.
      Haven't tried the ones which go up and down.

    Great review Bryan (as usual).
    Any thoughts on the recently announced Yamaha Star Venture? Hogs and such have never done it for me but I'm not completely turned off by the new Yamaha.
    I've only recently upgraded my 2004 FJR with a 2016 FJR AE and just had a great tour of North Wales (UK) but I like where Yamaha are going with the new model, even though it's not an FJR replacement. Just interested in everyone's opinion

    my main gripes about this bike arent the usual ones you hear about. my main beef with the fz09 in general is the quality of the clutch/transmission and the fuelling/throttle at low rpms. throttle on/off is absolutely abysmal on these bikes. yamaha threw on the cheap electronic throttle just as a selling point i feel, on top of them tuning it lean as all hell from the factory. a deadly combo (in the bad way)

    You are talking about a Yoshimura pipe, but isn't it an Akrapovic? Here in The Netherlands it is. Pricewise it doesn't make much difference. A great difference for me is the new ugly headlights. I liked the old better.

      I researched the bike for months traced it back when it was only being sold in europe where it know as the hornet. Not one negative review i could find...the biggest gripe was the instrument cluster was hard to see...My advice if your interested in any bike do your own research and dont listen to the guy down the street...WE have three dealerships around the little rock area that have them in stock so their goes that theory if they dont have them they must be no good...

    For me, I pretty much would be plunking down the money on suspension parts even on the 2017. Rear shock is meh. Front forks are improved but still not on par with the engine/chassis capability. So depending on the parts, a shock can run 650-1100 and fork cartridges usually run just over 1,000 for this bike.
    That puts the price over 10,500. Now it's kind of another ball game in terms of price category. For instance, a GSX-S1000 sits in the same price range as a FZ-09 with upgraded suspension, yet it carries about 30 more HP and 15 more torque with suspension that is solid and confidence inspiring right off the showroom.
    If I didn't want to fiddle with the suspension, the new Z900 has been rated better so far by a few direct comparisons in feeling more stable, planted, and better balanced in OEM form. It's got a slight advantage in power-to-weight as well. Larger fuel capacity as well (3L more). Has ABS without all the other electronic nannies which most have said it simply does not need due to it's tractability, balance, and progressive power.
    What else? I guess the GSX-750 also falls just beneath the FZ-09 while having nearly similar HP from factory but less torque. More revs required but some people find that sort of thing thrilling and engaging.
    I tested the last FZ-09 and haven't tested the new one yet. I'm currently leaning toward the Z900 which I will test in a few weeks, as well as the tweaked GSX-S1000 (2017, revised ECU, power improvements with crankcase ventilation mods). FZ-09, Z900, GSX-S750 all have great gear ratios for all-round street use. The GSX-S1000 has track ratios which Suzuki was negligent in revising, but has piles of power to make up for it.
