Having played this song since my early teens a million times on my acoustic and in later years lead on the electric, i have to say that this performance is a testament to jimmy page's talent as it is quite an achievement to get away with playing this with no vocals. I'd buy the ticket any day!

Whaaa? You just witnessed one of the most historic events of Rock history!! Three of the best rock guitarists of all times on stage at once. Understand that the track you hear of Stairway on the airwaves was done in a studio with that quality recording. These guys were doing this because they are good friends -- no vocals, just good times!!!

This is amazing! I was born in 95 and I'm 16 now, and all I listen to is classic rock. Been playing guitar since I was 5 also, and man I've gotta say Jimmy Page is ranked number 2 in my all time favourite guitarists, beaten very slightly by Randy Rhoads (RIP). Jimmy put so much FEELING into this solo! Head down, pick in hand and rocked out!!! What better way to learn that from the greats :)

I saw Randy Rhoads play at the Roxy in West Hollywood, and the songs didn't interest me much, but then he goes into solos from songs of the great guitarists of the the day, Page, Clapton, Beck, Townsend, Blackmore, and others, that got my attention. Note and tone perfect, amazing. He used to work at Licorice Pizza, a record store (round black vinyl, get it?), with another guy, both with Rod Stewart rooster haircuts, somewhere in Woodland Hills on Topanga Blvd., I think. Maybe the other guy was in the band.

Jamie Vincent I believe this is from the ARMs concert and he came out of seclusion to help out Ronnie Lane and had been dormant for some time, I suggest fans check it out, I've owned it since it came out, EC opened it up followed by Steve Windwood than Beck as Jeff walked off the crowd cheered than it exploded as Page walked out and went on to do stuff from Death Wish not his best performance but dam good considering, side note Stevie sang on the fly reading the lyrics off the floor at points, I like the concert and thought the all did pretty good, seeing the best England has to offer jamming together was pretty cool, that was 83 .

I was at this concert. It was December 1983 at Madison Square Garden, The ARMS Concert (for Ronnie Lane). Everyone who was anyone played at this show, but Jimmy's silent version of Stairway was the highlight. We didn't care that it was sloppy. We were so glad to finally see him for the first time after Zeppelin disbanded. We were ecstatic and the entire audience sang the lyrics at the top of their lungs. It was very emotional. Jimmy and Paul Rodgers also debuted what was to become The Firm.

i was there for one of the san francisco shows... page was even worse. he forgot to turn off a delay or something, and the first few minutes of the solo was just a jumbled mess. i had seen him play it a million times at the midnight showings of the song remains the same, and i couldn't believe how terrible it was.
      however....
i also took into consideration that while, yes, he was obviously wasted, this was probably one of the fist times he'd played this song since the death of one of his best friends and the loss of his band just 3 years earlier. i can't even imagine how hard it must have been to have a friend and bandmate die in his house, and then lose the mighty led zeppelin because of it.
not sure i would have been able to do these gigs sober, either.

You can really just see and hear his pain in this. Stairway was a perfect tribute to Bonham from the beginning; it’s just that it wasn’t realized until he was gone. You have to imagine how much sadness and pain is attached to the song after he lost his best friend. That’s definitely evident in his playing here.

Oh, so true are your words, Andrew. The great musicians have died (not so many now in 2019 like there were in the 70's -1995) but their music brings joy and appreciation to the generations who never listened to these greats. My children grew up listening to my music and the millennial music and just guess which they prefer === The Classic Rock, and Jazz fusion/Rock like "The Rippingtons, "Steely Dan". You cannot find any good modern music since the death of "Prince" and so many others. Makes me want to write music the it was meant to played.

    There's a lady who's sure
    All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Oh oh oh oh and she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
    There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiving
    Ooh, it makes me wonder
    Ooh, it makes me wonder
    There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who standing looking
    Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon, If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
    For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
    Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
    But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
    And it makes me wonder
Your head is humming and it won't go
    In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow
    And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying the stairway to heaven

In the seventies Led Zeppelin was otherworldly. I remember watching “ The Song Remains the Same” as a teen and being blown away. They were human. It was one moment in time. After Bonzo’s death psychologically how can these guys just bounce back. Nobody can. Page was great. But he’s human also. The music stands on its own. It’s just cool seeing these guys together on stage. Comrades since their teens they all made their mark. They are all icons. Just a moment in time.

This is what happens when you don't play live to your fans and fellow guitar mates of equal talents , for several years , throw in a cornucopia of booze and drugs and the rest is history in the making !! For those who think Page is trying to steal the show , he was and these days plays like a total gentleman , giving up the leads to other Legends on stage with him , doing the rhythm thing and is actually happy letting others shine in the spot light
and actually passing the torch on !! Class act all the way , take a bow Mr. Page you have earned it !!
