Wow! I found this to be heartening. It provides idividuals with both the principles and means for evaluating and dismissing package deals when being accosted through the use of them.
10:16 Interesting, because I think that's backwards. I would argue that the idea that democracy as merely "a political system based on unlimited majority rule" is actually the anti-concept. Because if you accept that concept, than an anti-democratic system is any system which is not based on unlimited majority-rule, and so you've now squashed together both systems that are completely anti-freedom ( not even allowing people to vote) and systems that are so free that they protect even the rights of their citizens from their citizens itself ( citizens cannot use their vote to rob others of freedom) When really the main conclusion I draw from it is that democracy is more in a 'necessary but not sufficient' state when it comes to freedom. You are not truly free if you can't vote for your representatives, but just being able to do that doesn't make you free either. So what you need is democracy + constitutional protections of freedom ( even those might not be enough, as we see in some recent supreme court cases, but I don't see how to make it better ) So I would argue the US is a democracy. Thankfully, it's not just a democracy, but it also has some constitutional protections. I'm sure you will have good arguments to show how my reasoning is wrong, and I would be excited to learn from them.

The purpose of a concept is to identify what something is, not what it isn’t. So, putting ‘anti-’ in front of almost any concept is going to bring to mind a large group of disparate things. This is one of the many reasons it’s a bad idea to define by negatives. ‘If we define this spectrum of colour as green, then anti-green will mean any colour that isn’t green. That’s not specific enough.’ Well, the solution to that is to have other concepts that refer to the other colours, not to throw out the concept ‘green’. You wouldn’t be able to use concepts at all if you kept to that standard.
The US is a constitutional republic which uses democracy as a tool in its governance. The distinction to keep in mind is that between "democracy" and "a democracy."
Look like you are falling for the "package-deal" trap just the same. Like you don't want your decision to be control by other, but if you are doing the OPPOSITE of what other told you to do.... you are still being control because your decision is DEPEND on what the other told you to do. Aka reverse physiology. If you mom want you to eat vegetable, she just told you DON'T EAT VEGETABLE. The correct respond is to THINK THINK THINK FOR YOURSELF. It's FREE, but think the bad vs the good on both accepting and not accepting it. Government offer you FREE HEALTHCARE... vs.... At the store they offer you a FREE SAMPLE of the food they are trying to sell. Government doesn't have money to give away for FREE. While the sample of the food, the owner is taking a risk for future investment of you coming back to buy more at your free will. Government FREE Healthcare will destroy the market for Healthcare and government will take over which will FORCE you to totally depend on the government for your Heatlchare, the bridge is burned and you can't go back.
I admire the clarity of this lecture.
Agree but to me it's still hard to recognize and discern despite knowing exactly how it works and done.
Yes, same here. Abstract ideas are hard.
Excellent. Clear and very usefull. Thank you.

I love you Peter clear as day
Package-deals are vicious ambiguities, vicious in effect and, sometimes, in intent. They are pervasive in history.
Evil does destroy thought. Kant is causing schizophrenia.
This makes me want to reread some articles that Peter Schwartz published in The Intellectual Activist.
Wonderful🎉Happy New Year everyone
Did not even watch yet, but this is important!

I agree in principle, but the speaker is mistaken re fentanyl. It is a legal drug. The problem is with diversion or manufacturing for illicit use.
The power of seven
I’m not sure Schwartz is all that familiar with Hayek. His brutal dismissal if the great man’s ideas is 180° off course.
It was a dismissal of 1 idea, based upon it being poorly founded.
Hsyek was not a philosopher.
I never buy anything 'on super sale' or take something 'for free' or fall for bogos. ❤ LOVE YOU AYN! you and Rush Limbaugh !
