- In this video I unbox my new 2021 Marzocchi Bomber DJ fork, Compare it to Manitou Circus Expert. Install it. Attempt to install Gyro on the Commencal Absolut. I considered leaving the failed attempt to install a gyro out of this video but I hope that anyone who is thinking about buying a Gyro that this video can help with the process. You can learn from me what doesn't work. I am excited about the new fork. I bought what I believe to be the strongest, simplest fork on the market and I hope there is good longevity.
Lots of boring talking in this video but I hope this helps answer some questions for anyone looking for a new bike or fork.
Here are the Forks I considered before purchasing the Marzocchi Bomber DJ
Manitou Circus Expert
Price: 450
Weight 2128g
Stanchion 32mm
Steerer tapered or straight
20mm axle
Leg material Aluminum
Pros: inexpensive, comes in straight or tapered, good customer service
Cons: Not as strong
Manitou Circus Pro
Price: 750 - often on sale for 675
Weight 1905g
Stanchion 34mm 7050 aluminum
Axle 15mm
Pros: Strong, light weight, Mid price, good customer service
Cons: 15mm axle less stiff, reverse arch can be a con but also can be overcome
Pike DJ
Price 850
Weight 1880ish
Stanchion 35mm
Lowers Magnesium
Axle 15mm
Pros: Strong, light weight
Cons: seals tend to blow out, can flex some but stiffer than Fox per other UA-cam reviews
Marzocchi Bomber DJ
Price: 700
Weight 2095g
Stanchion 36mm
Lowers Magnesium
Axle 20mm
Fox GRIP internals
Pros: I think this is the strongest stiffest of all the forks. Middle range price
Cons: a little heavier
Fox 831
Price 900-1100 dollars
Weight 1900-2000ishg
Stanchion 36mm
Lowers Magnesium
Axle 15mm

Thanks for watching!
After having a Circus Ex on my 2020 Absolut for the last year, I miss footjams. The Bomber is on my want list. Nice vid.
I agree, I could never quite get comfortable! Thanks for watching!
Mar-zoke-ee You said it right the first time. 🙂 I’m 52 and ride a DJ you have plenty of years. Enjoy your fork.
That’s awesome! Inspiring to hear! Thanks for watching
Title Gyro will have you covered... its an amazing gyro.. ordering another one soon for my alcatraz built
Thanks! I am going to try some 3 dollar Odyssey Knarps first. Then maybe London Mod. If no luck then I may commit to the Title.
What if you cut the cable and hook it to the caliper after you hook up the gyro?
best frame pump? my how to buy absolut 2014& 2021 ?
Have you had a chance to ride them much yet? I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts as I'm considering the very same upgrade.
In the ideal world I'd be getting Fox 831s but I'm also saving for a new enduro bike so it'll have to wait until another year. My Manitous aren't broken so I might not even bother with the upgrade unless it's significantly better.
Regards the giro, I guess the obvious answer is to drill/tap another hole a bit further up the headtube on each side? I'm not sure what that would do to your waranty though. My SC Jackal doesn't come with any holes for fitting a giro, I just run a long hose. I also run a front brake (I use my DJ bike for trail riding sometimes and strictly speaking it's required to be road legal in the UK) which I route through the headtube via a hollow headset bolt/top cap.
Thanks for watching! I like them quite a bit more. They are stiffer, zero creak, very consistent, pretty much lock out the same, and I prefer the front arch. The Manitou Circus Expert is a great fork but the Marzocchi is better in my opinion. I made another video where I figured out a solution to the Gyro :)
@@johnseip Cool, thanks for the reply. It looks like they'll be on my shopping list next pay day :-)
Hi there! Did the original front wheel hub fit the Bomber DJ without any issues? Just wondering because I have the same Manitou and just bought a Bomber DJ. Thanks!
Yes! Perfect fit
Thanks, John!!
As for footjams, your gritty shoe is going to JAM right against tha stanchions and begin to wear the coating.
Run the gyro upside down, and swap the lower y cable with two shifter cables and a London mod in the caliper. MTB182 has a good video on this.
Thanks!
Just got the black set. Yeah your supposed to run it upseide down bro. Yeah check out the title video with Bret rheeder. Should help. Maybe nik Hilton. It’s out there though I’m 100% sure
Thanks! You will like your new fork!
@@johnseip np, yeah I really like it man. The stanchions are so thick. Stay safe out there!
In the uk we say MARZ ZO KI
Running it upside down should work. Leave the rear brake cable off that could be the problem
Thanks for watching! The problem is that the cable runs out of space in the gyro junction barrel :(. Not sure why Commencal drilled the tab mounts so low. I emailed them to see what they recommend given they drilled the frame.
@@johnseip are you apart of the dirt jumpers group on Facebook?? A lot of good info could be given if you are and posted in there about it.
That’s a good idea. Thanks!
Try to put the max spacers into the fork and then run 100 psi fully open should be pretty good
I love the way you've built your bike... Just watched the video and I can help you out with information about a hydraulic gyro that's build from Germany if I'm not mistaken 😅 it's called the "Trixer" and the brand and manufacturers name is Trickstuff and from what I could find on the Web you can buy the whole kit for 26,99£ from a website called "bikester.co.uk" Sam Pilgrim used it for a long time but because he doesn't have a bleed kit just stopped using it after a while after changing multiple bikes through the years if I can help with something else just text me 😁 I'll be happy to help you with any information that I know plus I like your content
Thanks for watching! That hydraulic gyro is pretty cool. Seems like it would be a bit finicky. I may end up ordering a gyro plate adapter like the one from green bicycles and just running the Odyssey upside down. Or just a really long hydraulic hose which is what I’ve always done. I’m bummed they drilled the tab mounts so low on the frame.
@@johnseip Type "G1 Gyro" on here 🙂 I think it's the best mechanical gyro at the moment that's built for mtb's in mind and from what I can see you don't even have to screw in the bolts. To hold it in place you lock the bottom plate of the gyro with the headset cup
XD aluminium is much stronger but heavier then aluminium you literally have no clue what you're talking about. Magnesium does have a few advantages for forks and certain other applications. But don't act like magnesium is stronger then aluminium. It's lighter and less dense. Steel titanium aluminium then magnesium. And for strength to weight that order as well. Due to newer alloys like reynolds 953 and similar or post weld heat treatment processes.
Magnesium at the same weight is thicker. Which can have some advantages. And you can go larger diameter with less weight penalty which also has advantages.
Manitou are 35mm I believe. Fox and now marz are 36.
