Old Bintulu, Sarawak (RARE documentary)

- This video shows the atmosphere of Bintulu, Sarawak (my hometown) during the 80's. It was recorded by a foreign citizen, Brian A. Berry, in 1986 and uploaded to UA-cam 20 years later in 2006 by one of his family members. I kept a copy of this video and re-upload (because the original one is no more available in the web).
I hope there are no restrictions to share something good like this so that the people especially Bintulu folks can learn and be inspired by Brian and his team.
To Brian (commentator), Paul (cameraman) and Mike (editor), thank you to all of you for this great RARE effort!
Even though I was just a year old in 1986, I get this overwhelming urge of sentiment for my childhood after watching it. It is a classy nostalgia!

thanks for a great opportunity to remember Bintulu. I was there 51 years ago - in 1969, as a NZ volunteer teacher at the Bintulu Government Secondary School. I returned for a visit in 1973 and again in 2005, and was delighted to join some of the BGSS students who visited NZ in 2019. I had booked to visit in July 2020 but have had to cancel my visit - to Kuching, Bintulu and Miri - because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Maybe it will happen!! Meantime - thank you for those memories. The town is greatly changed, but I have photos of the kampong that look very much like in the video. Peter Glensor

I was born in Bintulu in 1989 in a vaie family, native to the town. Thank you so much for the video; it means a lot to me, and I believe, to the vaie community as well.
Great memories. I was posted to ABF in 1985 till 1991. Bintulu has developed into industrialised town but the old town centre remains.

Brian E Berry had taken all the necessary and needful to get this documentary about Bintulu in 1986, which was 30 years ago. I was serving in the Govt service by then and in the early 80's there were a few flare of incident between the .local workers and the Koreans and involved few fatalities as well on both side. That was during the early development of Bintulu by then.

This is very nostalgia..the pianist, Uncle Jaafar used to rent at my grandfather, Mr. Mahmuddin house at Kampung Sebiew in Bintulu.I wonder if Uncle Jaafar is still alive. I recalled her daughter Ana and we used to play together..Thank you so much for uploading this..

I was a frequent traveller to Bintulu, as compared those days in the 70s toward 80s, Bintulu has flourished into a very well developed town with the main source of income from engineering, oil and gas and light industrial zone in Samalaju which set Bintulu into an Industrial town today. The town is clean and neat though with not so good air quality . It provides a lot of job opportunities and the salary is much higher than other towns in Sarawak coupe with its raising cost of living . Today Sibu is falling behind Bintulu and looking forward Bintulu be awarded the city status in the next 5 years .
Thanks for sharing. The town centre is still mostly unchanged after almost 30 years.

Now 2020 Bintulu has the tallest building in Sarawak at Paragon Centre called THE PEAK standing mightly at where was once the edge of old Bintulu airport
