My father was Assistant Super of the police in Kuching during 1952 to 1963. I was there from 1955 to 1963, leaving Borneo when I was eight. Very fond memories of the club and particularly the swimming pool. Dad was an Officer in the Navy during the second world war, so, many Captains would spend time with him when in port and catching up. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the club, I must go back and see Kuching again and soon.
I spent my childhood in Kuching. It was a quiet town. Life was slow and peaceful. We were very happy even though under colonial rule .Things were cheap then with few entertainments . I liked to go to cinema at week end when the morning show only charged 30 cents. It was such a joy to remember life then.
Hi.. Wow what a fantastic film.. Loved every minute.. I arrived there in the 80s in a small plane just like that from Singapore and it looked the same just a bit older and with the typical mould on the outer of the small building.. Monkeys played off to the side and a huge lizard ran across the runway haha.. I moved there from Australia and stayed for a decade.. The new airport, now replaced again was only in early stages of being built so I'm guessing the old tower was demolished in the mid 80s when that airport was constructed.. I'm so happy to say that I'm going back to live out my retirement there within months just waiting for visa and travel exemption! I feel like I'm going home.. The people are still just as friendly, India street, markets, jungle veggies, Bako, beautiful Kuching, can't wait.. I've forwarded this on to family who couldn't believe it when I told them how quaint the old airport was.. 👍😀

Sarawak made a very fatal mistake by joining Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia. Till today, Sarawak was very much backward as compared to their counterpart states in Malaya. Sarawak for Sarawakian is a must to let the Sarawakian to live the way of life they deserved when the State (Country) itself is so rich in natural resources Sarawak has been continously "robbed" day and night , and allocated a little return in revenue to develop the country and the stretch of road from Sibu to Bintulu is the worst in the country and almost impassable during the rainy season , the rich state is now the poorest state.

What a desperate comedown concernng that time and now!! The car from the airport seems to be a Morris Minor; my father had two of those and I remember his driving me in it in the early 1960's, when I was little. The other car could well be your Wolseley but if that is the case, then it seem to be some derivative of the Ford Prefect.
That paint job on the car in Kuching at the time? Way before the Beatles' Lennon's similarly painted Rolls Royce, i hadn't realized, -what later became Flower Power came from Sarawak. Awesome!
Sarawak although rich in natural rescources be it independently not joining the Malaysian Independence will still be poor as it is today because it was rule by greedy corrupt politician like their counterpart in the west.
If only Sarawak had stayed on as British Colony and eventually gain self independent. Sarawak would be a rich state with its many natural resources.
