2nd to last video with the bad audio. One more I need to release from my backlog of already-recorded videos, and then I'll be closer to the mic from there on out!
I deeply appreciate your channel. There's no clickbait or overproduction or thinly disguised plagiarism. You craft a story and a narrative and explain it in detail with no fuss or muss and it's something we desperately need more of on UA-cam. You're genuinely inspiring.
i ate too many tadpoles and now i have Prions :-[ such a bittersweet ending. on one hand its incredibly inspiring and it warms my soul in a way i cant describe to know that sarno was able to fulfill his dreams in the way he did. but on the other, it stung to learn he passed so far away from home. the way you structured this video is truly beautiful. 1 of my favs thus far!!!
As a dakota makes me realize how important our adoption ceremonies were at finding people who really cared about our community and traditions and incorporating them into our societies makes me feel so frustrated at our continued use of the antiquated blood quantum system for an enrollment policy to this day
Two things I noticed, 1 you made a typo Australian aboriginal and some Asian peoples have pieces of Denisovan DNA not Homo Neanderthalensis, 2 while uncontacted peoples may have lifestyles more similar to ancient humans its important to mention that they are still contemporary societies and have changed throughout the centuries, i say this just coz people tend to get stupid racist ideas stuck in there heads and it's good to point out the obvious. Thanks love your work dude!
This is such an incredible channel and I’m so happy to have stumbled across it. I realize this is a continuation of your radio show, but the quality of your work is still incredibly impressive for such a new channel! Your output rate is also insane, please don’t burn yourself out! Thanks for the entertainment.
this is such a good video about such a beautiful story concerning a beautiful culture with hauntingly beautiful music. pygmy tribal music will not leave my brain days after watching your video and you relayed the information so well, i just want to come back to this story again and again 💖
I'm glad obscure or lesser known cultures get studied, taught about and archived. I hope it continues more, because this stuff is interesting! Also, that pygmy music goes hard (sorry if that sounded cringe lol). Very hypnotic, at least to me. Btw, I ate too many tadpoles and now I have prions! :(
I watch a lot of this style of video essay, and yours have the quality and substance of videos from channels a hundred times your size that take months to put one out. How you’re doing what you’re doing I have no idea, but I absolutely love it.
If I had to guess, he probably heard a Deep Forest song on the radio. Checking wiki it looks like their first and biggest hit would have been from around that time, so I wouldn't be surprised if their other songs were getting play too.
This is so cool, thank you again for telling me something I didn't know the story of. The song is very haunting and beautiful. I'm glad we know about them but I wish we never bothered them, there are so few uncorrupted peoples left on this planet. Eno?! Wow, I didn't know about that either, I've heard of Jarvis but not sure if I've seen any of his films.
Loved the video tor! However, and I mean this with no offense, I found the background music a little loud in the first part? Or distracting? Just made it harder for me to focus on what you’re saying. Maybe it’s just me tho. Still loved this episode otherwise! Thank you for the consistency! Happy holidays! EDIT: Jolibee please stop harassing me and my family. I didn’t mean it! There is no need to leave bullets outside my doorstep. I got the message! I’ll never leave a critical comment on this channel again! I swear…just please. Don’t do anything you can’t take back.
The summary of prehistory from the start of the video needs a few corrections: - It was once popularly believed that Homo sapiens sapiens originated in East Africa, but in recent years the theory of a Pan-African origin has become increasingly popular among Anthropologists - basically, the idea is that anatomically modern H. sapiens arose from constant geneflow between archaic human populations across the African continent, rather than emerging from a single archaic population in a single place. This is supported by genetic evidence. - Interbreeding between H. sapiens and Neanderthals most likely occurred in West Asia, not Europe; all non-Africans share similar amounts of Neanderthal DNA, which suggests that most Neanderthal ancestry was introduced into the H. sapiens population before the ancestors of Aboriginal Australians branched off from other non-Africans, which occurred prior to the migration of modern H. sapiens into Europe. - Humans migrated from West Asia to South Asia before branching off into populations that migrated into East Asia and Europe, rather than migrating into Europe before "Asia" - The estimate of 1-4% Neanderthal ancestry in modern non-Africans was proposed early in the study of Neanderthal admixture, and has since been narrowed to around 2-3% Neanderthal ancestry. - Anthropologists increasingly support the theory that the ancestors of Native Americans skirted along the coast of Beringia in boats rather than walking across the land bridge, as our earliest evidence of people in the Americas dates to a period when the land bridge would have been blocked by an ice sheet. There was also never a land bridge between Asia and Australia; people migrated between them by boat (and this occurred around 40-75,000 years ago, roughly 20-55,000 years before the migration into the Americas and as much as 25,000 years before the migration of humans into Europe) I've got a video on my channel about ancient human migrations if anyone wants to learn more, it's a little outdated because of the pace of anthropological discoveries but mostly holds up lol
Minor correction at 1:30 - you're referencing the Na-Dene Yeniseian language family. I'm kind of obsessed with this theory but it should be qualified: 1. this is just a theory, and it's accepted by a lot of linguists but not all 2. this is a theory that would be immensely difficult to prove 3. Navajo, Apache, etc are only (possibly) related to one (1) living language in Siberia spoken by a very, very small community 4. many anthropologists no longer believe that human beings reached North America through the land bridge, but via boat (google 'kelp highway hypothesis') Great video tho!
I would like to say that the Dene-Yeniseian hypothesis (the link between Navajo and Siberian languages) is not widely accepted and is quite controversial
Hey I discovered your channel pretty recently and just wanna say youve been on a roll, I haven’t seen any other channels cover what you have, keep up the good work fam 👍👍
also: gentle suggestion, try leaning into your gesticulation (: your storytelling skills are excellent and you don't have to hold back. it looks like you may be stiffening your body from "leaning in" to your speech from shoulders-down. letting yourself talk with your hands may make you more comfortable in front of the camera. but, that's just me. LOVE your channel. thank you for what you do!
I wonder what the ba bendulay life expectancy would be if they had never been introduced to alcohol, weed and tobacco. Still not great, probably, but better.
In a way, I think this is a sad story and a exposé of the modern lifestyle. Sarno traveled to the ends of the Earth to find community & family & happiness & purpose; things he couldn't find in the West. It's almost too embarrassing to admit, but I'm envious of a leper.
I found the background music to be a bit too loud and repetitive, it made it difficult to focus on the story at times. Other than that the video was great, as always. I had never heard of this story, it was very interesting and brilliantly told 👏🏻

Don't sweat it
Subways of your mind is sorely missed.
Can you cover the lost continent of Lemuria?

Seriously?
Someone needs to make a trap beat out of that Pygmy chanting song used in the starting credits ASAP. Those intervals and the polyphony are INSANE.
I'd love to hear atmospheric drum n bass music using samples of the pygmy chanting.
For sure. I fell in love with their music immediately

Thanks love your work dude!
Shoutout New Jersey! Extremely pumped to hear about my beautiful perfect state that has no issues and no problems in the past.
Did anyone ever tell the Pygmies that Sarno was dead? Or did they just see him leave sick one day and then he never came back? The man had kids

i've been nonstop watching your videos since i discovered your channel. youtube has become my tor's cabinet of curiosities app.
This was amazing.
Your whole channel is fascinating.
Found one video a few days ago and ive been binging ever since.
So beautiful it literally drove me to tears. Thank you so much for starting my new favorite UA-cam channel!
I think this is the wildest opening you've had and I love it. Good stuff! Love your style and delivery
🎉🎉 NEW TOR VID! i’m pulling for ya, kid. you’re going places
Man, what a treat! Solid video about a subject I knew very little about. This is exactly what UA-cam was made for
Who knew Brian Eno would end up tied into all this! 10/10.
this has become one of my favorite channels i feel like all the topics are catered to exact kind of nerd i am
Wow, what a wild story! So sad he never made it back home. But I feel he accomplished a lot more than most of us get to.
I watch a lot of this style of video essay, and yours have the quality and substance of videos from channels a hundred times your size that take months to put one out. How you’re doing what you’re doing I have no idea, but I absolutely love it.
Really good stuff but that's wild to have your intro 12 minutes in lol
This is the first channel I've discovered in ages that actually makes content on obscure topics I've never heard of and I love it❤
The chanting of the tribe sounds as close to birdcalls as humans can sound. It's incredible, and I understand why he fell in love.
If I had to guess, he probably heard a Deep Forest song on the radio.
Checking wiki it looks like their first and biggest hit would have been from around that time, so I wouldn't be surprised if their other songs were getting play too.

NEW TOR VIDEO 🗣

Thanks for this. I watched all your videos yesterday and I haven’t finished my paint by number yet
These videos are awesome. Keep up the good work
your content is great, just discovered your channel, this is my third vid in a row rn
The music in this video is hauntingly beautiful.
amazing story thanks Tor

Oh no not the Hivemind comment section infiltrating Tor
Forgiven. Jolibee apologizes sincerely and will no longer send Thimble the Doll after you. And I'll turn down the music in the next video.

Really great content! Again!

edit...i ate too many tadpoles and (plot twist) prions already got me

Awesome stuff
Hey man.. how much for the durian?
Great video, but I think you could reconfigure your audio set up a bit.
Is that where the prions came from?
Please also add metric so most of the world can follow sizes, thanks
I love ethnography!!!
