A Deep Dive Into Elon Musk's Alt Accounts
Every time it seems Elon can't get weirder, he surprises us all.
This episode features research contributions from the fantastic Britt "StingLikeABea" Perkins, host of the hilarious podcast I Swear To Drunk I Am Not God (isweartodrunkpodcast.buzzsprout.com) and a true Internet free-diver who really knows how to find a weird story. Check out her podcast!!

Intro too long? At last a solution, you impatient sludbustards: ua-cam.com/video/MKHhFtlcWDs/v-deo.html
This episode also now features new music from my friend Kinley LeFevre-Trigg, the composer of all the instrumental ambient music for Tor's Cabinet. New songs in this episode are titled "Responsitrilitrust" and "VOKN", along with the usual tracks "Mercy, Again" and "Redwood", and pretty soon, by popular demand, I'll be posting the full songs to my Patreon. Kinley is a crazy talented musician and we're both delighted that people like the music! (The intro and outro songs are not Kinley's. The intro song, as most of you know, is "Subways Of Your Mind" by FEX, the usual outro song is "Walk Away" by the French 80s band The Game, and the outro song in this episode only, just for fun, is "Jin Jin" by Donto. The soft violin music that accompanies the paragraphs from Rocket Man is "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Ungar.)
Irene Iddesleigh is an insane self-published Victorian-era novel (yes, they had self-publishing back then) that reads like the final boss of wordy Victorian literature. And yes, the main character's first name is meant to be pronounced "Irony". That's how Irene was pronounced in the 19th century. Read it here: www.gutenberg.org/files/34181/34181-h/34181-h.htm
The Eye of Argon is a similarly unbelievably thesaurus-trampled short fantasy story from the 1970s, which used to be passed around at writing conventions to see who could read it the longest without laughing (Longest I've lasted reading it is ~4 paragraphs). Read it here: ansible.uk/misc/eyeargon.html
The image in the talk bubble from 30:17 to 30:52 was generated from the Midjourney prompt “A UA-camr, white, male, in his 20s, clean-shaven, with shoulder-length brown hair and round glasses, sits at a desk talking into a microphone. Behind him is a white wall with a blue and yellow zigzag pattern on it that sort of makes it look like he's turning Super Saiyan. On his left is a plastic durian with a Mr. Potato Head-style modeling-clay face on it. Above the durian, taped to the wall behind it, is a talk bubble made out of green paper.” It did a damn good job, though none of the images it created correctly got the face on the durian, or the background pattern, maybe because I included cultural references to things my setup looks like? I figured an AI trained on the whole Internet would know what Mr. Potato Head and Super Saiyan look like, but I guess I was wrong.
Example I used of good AI art comes from the Instagram creator GossipGoblin, who you really should check out.
I really am sorry to all the people I've alienated with my pro-AI art stance, and I hope you can still enjoy my videos. Because I've gotten so much praise for the rough, handmade aesthetic of my videos, the opposite of AI content, I knew it would surprise some people that I of all creators don't oppose *other* people using AI. I am opposed to copyright and to people and corporations who have a Gollum-with-the-Ring mentality toward their creative output - to me, Disney's litigiousness and considering AI art to be theft are two sides of the same coin. I'm not going to change my view, but I love all of you. If you have to abandon my channel now, that's all right. I wish you could stay, but there are plenty of other good channels in the sea of slop, and thank you for being with me in my channel's early days.

The Russian Navy's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Voyage
Переглядів 14 тис.14 днів тому
In a situation that may seem familiar to listeners today, in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904 Russia was finding itself humiliated, unexpectedly struggling against a nominally less powerful, less significant power. With Russia’s Pacific naval fleet mostly decimated by the Japanese, Russia decided to move its Baltic Fleet out to the Atlantic, around the southern tip of Africa, and across the India...
Why Does Santa Play A Saxophone In China?
Переглядів 7 тис.14 днів тому
These days, Christmas is a thing in China - not nearly as much of a thing as it is in the West, but a thing nonetheless. A Chinese Christmas typically consists of all the same imagery borrowed from Western Christmas, with one glaring exception: Santa's sax. Why does Kris Kringle jazz it up in the Middle Kingdom? People have their theories, but none of them make much sense. This is the first vid...
The Lost Holocaust Movie Made By A Slapstick Comedian
Переглядів 31 тис.21 день тому
The first mainstream Hollywood movie to tackle the Holocaust starred, and was directed by, Jerry Lewis, a lowbrow 60s slapstick comedian. Called The Day The Clown Cried and intended for a 1974 release, the very idea of its existence was met with disgust from critics, and it was left unreleased despite being almost entirely complete, a very rare phenomenon for a major movie. Only a handful of pe...
Why Aren't There Locust Plagues Anymore?
Переглядів 253 тис.21 день тому
In the late 19th century, locusts made large parts of the Great Plains nearly uninhabitable. They formed swarms the size of states, darkening the skies for days as they passed overhead, eating everything in their path - wool off sheep, clothes off people, whole fenceposts - becoming a trope in Westerns to this day. And then they went extinct, over just a few decades. Their sudden disappearance ...
The Woman Who Would Be Pope
Переглядів 7 тис.21 день тому
In the Middle Ages, it was widely believed that once, a woman had been pope. The tale of Pope Joan (or sometimes Pope Agnes?), who had disguised herself as a man in order to sit in the Vatican, was universally known for centuries, and to this day, still has its believers. Apparently, graphic rituals were installed upon the election of a new pope to make sure no woman infiltrated the papacy ever...
The Great Lost Gay Jesus 🌽🌽 Movie
Переглядів 36 тис.28 днів тому
We all know the rule: There is corn of it. No exceptions. Not even for the Greatest Story Ever Told. For decades, a handful of people have been engaged in a convoluted search for a lost 1974 adult flick about a young gay man sexually obsessed with Jesus H. Christ. Long thought to be a film critic's hoax, there is now sufficient evidence that the movie really existed, but no footage has ever sur...
The Stonehenge of the Deep South
Переглядів 13 тис.Місяць тому
In a rural county in Georgia, fifty miles east of Atlanta, there sat a mysterious monument. Stonehenge-like granite slabs were engraved with a message in eight common world languages, urging passersby to "maintain humanity under 500 million", "guide reproduction wisely, improving fitness and diversity", and "be not a cancer on the Earth", among other unsettling missives. The monument was built ...

Every now and then people say they heard a song that "changed their life". Maybe some of them really mean it. But has a song ever changed your life so much that you uprooted your entire livelihood, decamped to one of the poorest and most unstable countries on Earth, and tried to integrate yourself into a village of 4'11" hunter-gatherers? That's what happened to Louis Sarno in the 1980s. What e...
A River Caught Fire, And Nobody Cared
Переглядів 8 тис.Місяць тому
In 1969, the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland was so polluted, it caught fire. Supposedly, the revelation that a river could catch fire shocked Americans into realizing the toll they were taking on the environment, and paved the way for the first major environmental legislation - though that widely repeated story is mostly based on a myth. The 1969 Cuyahoga fire wasn't even a major news story in Cle...

First things first, I'm really sorry about the extremely loud outro. Like, I warn people about it in the video, and having the outro be comically, unbearably loud *is* the joke, but even despite all that, I think the outro's a little too loud. Second, it's been a long time since I've recorded a video from scratch, so this video looks (and sounds!) kinda different from my others. The audio quali...
The Lost Alphabet of Easter Island
Переглядів 10 тис.Місяць тому
Written language has only been independently invented a few times over the course of human history. Archeologists believe that it was invented in Mesopotamia first, then China, then in Central America, then maybe Egypt - and then, some believe, on Easter Island, of all places. Artifacts from the remote, barren island are often covered in a regular, detailed series of glyphs, called “rongorongo”...

In 1973, 11 people, from all over the world, were set adrift on a raft in the Atlantic for 100 days, in order to prove a rogue scientist's theory that in isolation, men will fight to the death over their right to have sex with women. The experiment ended up in a peaceful, surprisingly wholesome place, to the chagrin of the asshole scientist, who had done everything he could to stoke conflict. T...

~2:05 intro too long? just skip through! you fool! the problem is that i, being a normal youtube user, dont just sit at my desktop staring at your pretty face (you, jolibee, not tor), i get up and i walk around, sometimes i leave the room, so it might take me the majority of the intro's duration to get to the controls and skip through. also im autistic and i like that song, i love 80s pop/new wave stuff and i desire to not skip because i wish to keep hearing the song, despite my desire to not have to. you really put me in a tough position yknow? i want that minute of my life for myself but you, you whore, youve tempted and distracted me and tricked me into this for only your own sick egoistic pleasure

Bro there is an “old UA-cam” vibe to your show and the script that is CRAZY nostalgic. Great job on this I absolutely love it (I don’t know if you are intentionally chasing this vibe or accidentally stumbled upon). I think the key is obviously “oh hit the algorithm and get lucky” but ALSO choose more pastoral stories that are “accessible” - like anybody man woman or child is interested in “hidden towns”. Meanwhile like a holocaust movie from a comedian for example is a little more niche - do you like movies? Do you care about comedians? And obv the heavy subject matter. Hidden town is a crazy winner by comparison. Keep going dude

The cluster of buildings and the cloverleaf at the coordinates mentioned at timestamp 39.29 are part of a military live fire range. Zoom out until you see US-95, a north-south highway to the east of the cloverleaf and activate street view. All of US-95 has street view, as well as a portion of the road that leads to the cloverleaf, labeled Rd 89. If you look at the Rd 89 segment closest to US-95, there's a sign visible that says "Danger - Live Fire Area - Range Clearance Required" followed by instructions of how to request clearance.
