    When this video segment was shot, Wilt was 50 years old and still being courted by NBA teams with serious, contract offers to return to the game he had left 13 years before. Here he is visiting his home town and Alma Mater, In Philadelphia. If you look at this physique, he looks like a municipal statue and in better shape than most NBA centers of that time, who were half his age. Can you image if this man played in today's game, where you can't even touch a player? Considering all the punishment he took during this career, and the fact the NBA CHANGED the rules to make it harder for him to score( widening the lane) he would massacre everyone. Joel Embiid, Giannis and other big men would carried off in a stretcher...just like the great Gus Johnson was...when he had his shot blocked by Chamberlain and had his shoulder dislocated. Good grief.

    The fact that this man is often excluded from the GOAT conversation is nothing short of a travesty. Wilt was, and still is, way ahead of his time. It is highly unlikely that we’ll see the likes of him again.

      Wilt Chamberlain was 1 of 9 children and was born to parents of average height . He stood over 7'1 without shoes and weighed 327 pounds of pure muscle at his heaviest weight ever recorded . Wilt was a 7 foot track and field star. He was a 3 time high jump conference champion in college , a crack quarter mile runner and held the state shot put record in Pennsylvania by the time he was only 17 years old in 1953. There is a picture of Wilt pinning a ball at the very top of the backboard in college on a block . A rookie Wilt had a reported 45 inch vertical as a rookie in 1959 with a max reach of 13'3 with a standing reach of 9'6 while barefoot and flat footed . There is even a clip of Wilt in college snatching a shot midair cleanly with one hand off a standing vertical in college near the top of the backboard. Wilt is far and away the strongest player in NBA history. There are so many anecdotes and stories of his god given and supernatural strength. Wil could effortlessly pick up grown ass men by the fucking armpits like toddlers and dunk them through the rim just like he did to Red Buttons. There is a clip of Wilt in college fighting for the ball in the post in the mid 1950's and he hooks arms with one of the opposing players, lifts him off the ground and literally swings him through the air to his left with ONE arm ! I'm talking about a 240ish pound Wilt in college who was nowhere near as strong or as heavy as he came to be. Wilt averaged 45.8 minutes a game for his ENTIRE 14 year career in the NBA while playing at the fastest pace ever , running up and down the court 30+ times in Chuck Taylors and in a far more physical league. In the 1961-62 season even averaging more minutes per game than there are in a complete game at 48.5 for all 80 games of the season with ease . He did this while the Philadelphia Warriors solely depended on him to be the top scorer, top rebounder and top shot blocker in the entire league all at once . Wilt was a pro volleyball player for many years after he retired from basketball at the age of 37 in 1973 and is a volleyball hall of famer . Wilt still was getting serious offers to play more NBA basketball until he was 53 years old in 1989 . Wilt didn't have access to 21st century world class training facilities , shoe technology , workout and weight lifting regimes , personal trainers , dieting , pampering, couldn't spend millions every year to care for his body and didn't use steroids and PED's . Just imagine if Wilt grew up in the 21st century and not in the 1940's and 1950's . What kind of absolute fucking FREAK of an athlete would we be talking about then in Wilt Chamberlain ?? Literally 1 in a trillion genetics. That man was a literal biblical like Goliath walking the face of the planet

      No.
      Per game all-time at his position MJ is 1st pts,1st blk,2nd stl,3rd reb & 5th in ast.
      That’s top 5 in every category,top 3 in 4 outta 5 categories.He’s the only only player in nba history to accomplish that.
      Per game all time at his position Lebron is 1st ast,2nd pts,9th stl,13th reb & 17th in blk.
      That’s top 5 in two categories,top 3 in two categories.Great but not on MJ’s level clearly.Especially his defensive and rebounding numbers.The only category Lebron better’s MJ relative to their position is assist.We all already knew/know that because that is the ONLY thing Lebron has ever ‘had on MJ’.
      MJ is #1 all-time in P.E.R. in both regular season and playoffs.
      He’s #1 all-time in win shares per game in both regular season and playoffs.
      He’s #1 all-time in BPM in both regular season and playoffs.
      He’s #1 all-time in VORP per game in both regular season and playoffs.
      He has the most scoring titles all-time.
      He made the most all-def 1st teams all-time.
      He lead the league in scoring and made all-def 1st team at the same time 9 times.
      Lebron,Kareem,Wilt,Russell,Bird,Magic,Kobe,Hakeem,Shaq,Steph,Kd,Giannis,Jokic combined never did it once.Not one time.
      MJ has the most trophies all-time with 22 in 1,072 games.
      For context Bill Russell and his 11 championships is 2nd all-time with 17 trophies in 963 games.
      Lebron is 3rd all-time with 16 in 1,407 games so far.
      Kareem is 4th all-time with 15 trophies in 1,560 games.
      There is no debate...except for the fake one nick wright and shannon sharpe have been pushing for yearS now.

    Glad I found this video. Wilt undoubtedly is the greatest basketball player and athlete to play the game. There isn't a close second. MJ gets credit for being the GOAT because he's the player that transformed the game into a worldwide media venture. The world got to see him play and that's who people latched on to and identified with. Too many people and companies make too much money to market someone else as the greatest and that (in my opinion) is why they continue to make MJ the GOAT. One on one, Wilt destroys Jordan and all other NBA greats. He was too athletic, played under his limitations, and too skilled for someone his size for anyone else to be able to contend with.

    • @wvu05
      @wvu05 2 роки тому +3

      Indeed. Jordan was great, but a lot of it was great PR, too. My favorite story involving that debate was Bill Walton recalling an NBA 50 for 50 event. The two were arguing over who was greater, and Wilt said, "Remember, Michael, when you were playing, they changed all the rules to make it easier for you to dominate. When I played, they changed all the rules to make it more difficult for me to dominate. End of discussion. Advantage: Chamberlain." And Jordan had no response.

    • @johncrom1400
      @johncrom1400 2 роки тому +1

      There was no continuation so if he was fouled during the catch of the alley oop then there is no shot,and further since there was no shot they would only get 1 free throw unless they were in the penalty.

    • @Vvrroommm
      @Vvrroommm Рік тому

      Hello. I see your point however, it appears wilt was in the air with the ball and the process of shooting before the guy behind them came rushing in and fouled him.
      So then you should be a good basket and on free throw shot. I'm not familiar with the rule of the and1 from this era in 🧺🏀
      On the other hand, it will was followed by a different player (like the guy to Wilts left), then Wilt got fouled before he shot basket 🧺🏀.
      So in this case it would have been one free throw chance (💉 🔫 shot) for the foul. Also if this foul was done while the other team was in foul trouble (called being in penalty) then that would have been more free throws a lot to Wilts team. But I'm not sure again about this era of basketball 🧺🏀 , if there was even a such rule back 🔙 in this time

    Greatest all around ballplayer All time. The 2 behind him are Bird and Magic. Everyone else lags way behind. Not even close.

    Wilt has been, and is my choice for the greatest of all time, period, no question. Nobody touches him, all around, statistically. With his strength, rebounding, shot blocking, and scoring, he was also, my favorite player to watch play the game until Larry Bird came along. Bird was more fun to watch than The Globetrotters, while being as serious as a heart attack.
