  • Despite the "Laker lore" that exists today, the Lakers were known as a team that could not win the big game. The year is 1972, and the Lakers have yet to win an NBA championship since their move to Los Angeles. Enter Wilt Chamberlain.
This video will cover the 5th game of the 1972 NBA Finals, focusing on the performance of Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt only attempted 14 shots, but his highlight package is jam-packed because of his defensive presence. He was an absolute marvel on the boards and as a rim protector on this night.
And yes, I am aware that the "Lakers" organization had won multiple championships by 1972. But again, they had never won a championship in the city of Los Angeles.
    Enjoy!

Wilt is the best basketball player in history and it is not even debatable.

And this right here is why I hate when people from this generation call these players Plumbers. This Lakers team had Chamberlain, West, Goodrich, Pat Riley, Elgin Baylor for part of the year. If they're legendary players, then how are they plumbers? And this team only got 1 ring, which means the other teams in the league had talent.

Only an ignoramus would say that, especially without the proper contexts. They literally don’t know better.

You can’t take casual fools whom never picked up a ball or was great enough to know all eras greatness n be regarded in the likes of legends from all eras as great, whom don’t know it’s far more difficult to crossover n scorer n win etc… with rules that don’t allow you to move your wrist to the side in hesitation or underneath the ball in any way, no backdown punishment allowed, assists only counted when the player you passed to immediately goes up for the score, 2 hand check defenses, most packed hof team and league ever, hybrid high jump champ and track n field record setting pro ballers and legend hof ballers with a condensed league only allowing the best of the best players etc…. Seriously
Never take such a fool that calls 6’10 avg center height in 1962 equal to 2022, and avg 6,6 height equal to today of all players as back then, and guys like Nate thurmond bill Russell suede Halbrook Randy smith hondo etc… whom are athletically superior to everyone in the league today, as plumbers, seriously
Moral of the story, Never take an imbecile serous lol

What a magical year that was. Despite the Lakers going on a 33 win streak and setting a record 69 wins, Milwaukee was actually still the favorite to win that year and repeat. Wilt just killed their hopes especially his defensive brilliance on MVP Kareem in that series. Then in the finals not being expected to play Wilt laces up to put away the Knicks to bring LA their first title and was only an eyelash away from dropping a 20/20/.600 average as he did in the 1970 finals. What a year.

Well Sporting Page, in the West era yes, was known for coming up short in the championship. But they didn't give up, they kept working at it and working at it, and they got it. While the rest of the Laker championship eras, didn't have to endure finals frustrations like the West era did, the rest of them have winning finals series record.

Wilt played hurt in 1970 and hurt in 1972. But you never heard about how he inspired his teammates.

The goat hands down not even close. No one won against the HOF odds as much as wilt, no one lost with the HOF odds in their favor or when even as little as Wilt, no one comes close in records or stats which are the things that objectively separate how great a player is which is why horry and Sam Jones would never be on the level of iverson and elgin etc…
No one was good enough to change nearly as many rules to the game
No one forced the refs to also create a separate set of laws on the court for them to make it fair for everyone else and unfair for them like wilt did
No one else was a Center who led the league in assists at will and inspired moves of legendary guards and forwards like Connie, doctor J, iceman, Skywalker, jordan, etc… like wilt
No one else as versatile record setting as wilt,
No one else with the combo of offense defense and rebounding to the extent of wilt,
No one else stronger or more stamina or more durable than wilt
No one else jumps higher than wilt
    Very few faster than wilt
No one else faced as much hof comp in the postseason at one time as wilt
No one else won against as many hof at one time as wilt
No one else with the postseason numbers and performances as great as wilts.
No one else with a better ring performance than wilt
No one else with better finals performance than wilt
No one else with better year from reg season playoffs to finals in 1967 nor in general career wise than wilt
No one comes close to wilts decline in ppg but increase in rpg and fg and defense even at their best etc…
    Clear cut goat
