Rest in peace to Wilt. Such a magnetic personality. But the other thing that struck me in this interview was the humility and cerebrality of Bill Russell.
Wilt Chamberlain before the knee injury , was the greatest player ever and that included everyone since : Jordan, LeBron, etcetera . Chamberlain even though 7'1" and huge long arms could lick a coin of the top of the backboard . He only needed to jump from his sneaker souls to floor a couple inches to get a dunk or rebound . But the bottom of his feet souls were as high or higher off the ground as the amazing short armed 5'3' Muggsy Bogues dunking . When he scored those 100 points he was taking the ball full court, dribbling between his legs, behind his back and so on . The reason he only won two NBA titles is because his coaches and team owners wanted wilt to be the show to bring in more revenue, no team game . His career spanned from 1959 to 1973 . He won his first NBA ring in 1967 Philadelphia 76rs and his last year of his career with the 1973 LA Lakers Russell said once we knew Wilt was going to get his 30 or more points but we knew that since we played team ball we would win . And that was the truth . He did play on an LA team that played team ball in the NBA finals and they won and wilt retired after that . fact was after his knee injury his mobility was severely limited . He lifted weights, put on weight and became an impenetrable force under and near the basket . but it was sad to see he could only jump up and down and no more jump forward, backward, or laterally like he did prior to the severe knee injury . Post knee injury around 1970 to end of his career, He had to crouch down bend his knees before he jumped and so many times opponents would take the ball away from him or tie him up. back then orthopaedic physicians were butchers really . they had no idea of reconstructing a torn acl ligament which is one of the things he lost because of his knee injury .

So I'll clear the elephant in the room. Since no one notices the things I notice. Bill was great and so was Wilt. Bill has 11 rings 2 rings. But Bill acknowledges Wilt was a better player. So rings don't matter. It's a TEAM game. People really need to understand this!
Not really. There's an interview with Russell somewhere on You Tube where he was asked who was the greatest of all time. Russell immediately said, "Well, the question you really mean to be asking is: when you're a player in the NBA what is your job? Most people will say to play professional basketball." Russell shook his head. "Our job is to do one thing and one thing only: win championships. That's what an NBA player is paid to do. Win championships. That's it. Now I ask you, who did that better than anyone?" At which point he broke into that famous smile and high pitched cackle.
Love Russell's laugh, it's so hearty and genuine and whenever I've had a discussion about who the GOAT in basketball was, I just point to Wilt. It isn't hard to imagine what he would do to the competition in the league today.
These dudes are titans of basketball. They played when basketball wasn’t nearly as popular as it is today. They made it popular. They changed rules, they both made impacts on the game in different ways. Wilt as an individual and Bill as a team leader. There won’t ever be another like them.

Jane Doe Barkley’s personality was very similar to Wilt’s. Plus they both played for the sixers and Barkley’s was a ferocious, tenacious player who played bigger than his height and I’m sure wilt respected that.

Man, SIR or Mr Bill Russell is such a jolly fellow, shows the man enjoyed every aspect of his life, and why would he not have being a giant of a man in the land of the Giants accumulating wealth, health, success, intelligence, love, generosity, a sense of well being, a gift of life from the Almighty no doubt as one of his faithful servant.
Bill's laugh is just as legendary as his career
Wilt was not just an all time great athlete, he was also an articulate speaker. Smart man.
Bird is in Bill's, Wilt's, and MJ's top lists. Wilt and MJ mentioned him first too.
Persian Warrior because he is buddy
I'll say this - give Larry Bird a body that is above average, not even Wilt, LBJ, or MJ type of body, and he becomes the best player of all time. If he was just a tad bit more athletic with the same skill and mindset, he would, without a doubt, be the greatest player of all time.
@@mac_n_cheesie Early bird was pretty athletic, def more athletic than magic and id say above average. His main issue was his back injury 85 which turned him into a non-athletic player and cut his career short.
Hes in Kareem havliceks abd magics and James top 5 too
@@mac_n_cheesie what you are describing is Jordan.
Bill Russell has such an aura about him, his wisdom and his sense of humor....he's a walking national treasure. God Bless him.
Greatness indeed, bro.
This was awesome!!! Legends who actually respected each other!
Thanks for your contribution to the game.
Bill Russell has the best laugh of all time.

was he referring to charles barkley? otherwise idk what he talkin about

: “everyone called me a loser. Well........ if I’m a loser, then wtf is everyone else?” LOL
I envy those people who were able to watch these two guys play. Their chemistry is just on another level. RIP Wilt the Stilt.
I saw wilt play live often...but Russell was pretty much retiring when I started watching
Two GOATS and two great black men. Invaluable and unforgettable. They will be cherished and respected forevermore.
You can tell that Bill Russell really valued his friendship with Wilt. His laughter and comfort are evidence of this.
Wilt was the GOAT
@@casualfandestroyer2503 you’re dumb as fuck and have never watched a game from the 60s. You just went on basketball reference and looked up accolades. You know nothing about NBA history, idiot.
@@MichaelCorleone_ Looking back, Wilt had five chances to knock Near ready to retire bill Russell out of the playoffs in ‘68 (3-1 lead ) and ‘69 (3-2 lead ) with a superior team-including two game 7s at home-and only needed to submit one monster performance to pull it off. Each time, he couldn’t do it .Each time , Russell’s inferior team prevailed. Each time wilt whines about it afterward. Wilt and four UCLA freshmen beat Magic and four NBA stars in a pickup game when Wilt was 43 years old. Coach Larry Brown tells the story in a TV interview.
Really how can I find this?
@@richarddelgado2723 probably the WIlt Chamberlain Archive channel.
Never happened. Story has been fabricated many times.
@@sunsfan8535 Oh yes it happened. The New Jersey Nets was going to sign him to a contract for a playoff run because he was able to hold his own at an advanced age playing against players of the 1980’s This man was bench pressing over 400 pounds and dunking well in his 50’s.
@@sunsfan8535 i believe it. UCLA was dominating college basketball during this time.
No Kareem in their All time list, interesting point
Thomas Amoros Shuttlesworth wilt didn’t like him
No shaq
This was 97 so no LeBron and Kobe and shaq was just getting started
Shaq made a living out of throwing elbows and Kareem was a one trick pony with the sky hook.
@@sr8146 lets be real, Shaq isnt a top 5 or 10 player of all time lol they both know this. They both Chose all real legends.
✝️ Rest in peace Bill Russell. You were a class act.
R.I.P TO THESE TWO AMAZING PLAYERS 🕊🤍
Just fell in love with both of these gentlemen & Legends. ❤
Bill had so much bent up anger around the 60s based upon how he was treated.
Im happy to see him laugh like this and let the pain go 💯
Lot of Black people did and can we blame them.
That pains never goes away for Black people in America because we're still dealing with racism at the White House and beyond.
White House isn’t your problem.... your told that by a dishonest media and a corrupt body politic party system... trump was friends with many athletes you probably admire before the media told you he was the devil.... be like wilt, free your mind and think independently.
@@phade2blaq You must like staying on the plantation with the Democrats, Mike. Who controlled the South during the last 150 years? Who tells you to remain a victim? Who tells you to hold out your hand? The Temptations sang it best, "Vote for me and I'll set you free!" = Ball of Confusion
Frederick King He's wonderful and very high-minded with that. GREAT MSN😍
This was the best interview... I remember at the time I knew this would go down as one of the greatest interviews ever.
These two are hilarious together! 😂 True friends and rivals
What an absolutely fascinating and brilliant interview. I love hearing the old war stories, and from two legends of the game. I’m hanging on every word. It’s so great they’re such good friends.
I love how wilt said larry bird and then was stuck on the rest but he knew Larry was first. Now that is a smart man
@Christian Cole lame - larry much more complete, a genius in fact... MJ is everything except a genius... MJ: 5 baskets of 30 at the 3-pt-contest

WILT THE GOAT, BILL THE GREATEST WINNER💙💙💙💙
Reginald Styles in basketball russel and wilt is the titan before the gods
U got that right
Russell was surrounded by a team full of HOF players.
Wilt was not.
Kareem is the NBA Goat of centers.
I was blessed to see Mr. Chamberlain play.
Who is here after Bill Russell reunited with Wilt?
I’m glad a legend like Bill Russell is still here with us today !
He just passed away today
He won his first NBA ring in 1967 Philadelphia 76rs and his last year of his career with the 1973 LA Lakers
Russell said once we knew Wilt was going to get his 30 or more points but we knew that since we played team ball we would win .
John Doe so sad!
Agreed, GOAT, even to this day. A Prime Wilt would have dominated any era of basketball.
so thats how its spelled

I always thought Russell was the GOAT but you could be right about Wilt! Love these guys, don't make them like that anymore!
I love the dynamics between them two, their personality really match each other's and you can tell that they hold tremendous respect for each other
I 'd love to listen Wilt talk even today, he's not onlya true legend but a smart mind and funny guy...really like no other...young people have seen Shaq and admire him but probably he has only been a imitation of that goat...this man has been larger than life literally
So I'll clear the elephant in the room. Since no one notices the things I notice. Bill was great and so was Wilt. Bill has 11 rings 2 rings. But Bill acknowledges Wilt was a better player. So rings don't matter. It's a TEAM game. People really need to understand this!
K Steve At every stage of his post nba career, Bill acknowledges Wilt was better. Only Wilt's haters see otherwise.
coldbrewski I love wilt but I don't know why I just feel like Russ was better just from what I've seen on UA-cam
Moses Messiah I feel you fam. Bill was a defensive and rebounding beast. His crime was being dominant in the same era Wilt owned.
Moses Messiah Russell had intangibles that he brought to the game. Psychological manipulation is a big one.
Bill's laugh was and is priceless and Wilt humor is priceless. But they are together again. ❤
Bill Russell and wilt chamberlain are greatest centers of all time
that was one of my favorite interviews. RIP to both these legends. Thank you 2raw for uploading the video.
I agree Bill Russell laughter is so contagious what a lovely human being
both are gone now, RIP
Love Russell's laugh, it's so hearty and genuine and whenever I've had a discussion about who the GOAT in basketball was, I just point to Wilt. It isn't hard to imagine what he would do to the competition in the league today.
RIP Bill and Wilt! We live in a much sadder world right now!
These dudes are titans of basketball. They played when basketball wasn’t nearly as popular as it is today. They made it popular. They changed rules, they both made impacts on the game in different ways. Wilt as an individual and Bill as a team leader. There won’t ever be another like them.
I remember watching this when it 1st aired in 1997 and seeing bill russell’s laugh and how much these 2 all time greats had so much fun together.
Theyre both greatly missed.
It’s so wholesome seeing Russell laugh and them having a good time. RIP GOAT
Love these two. As great as Russell was as a player, 11 rings in 13 seasons, he was an even better man. I feel the same about Jim Brown.
Not only tall, very talented players bit incredibly smart, brilliant players. What a pair! Super cool.
Two of my all time idols. Now with Bill gone yesterday....darn onions....
I've seen this numerous times and it always puts a smile on my face.
"Sir Charles is my favorite"- Wilt
Jane Doe Barkley’s personality was very similar to Wilt’s. Plus they both played for the sixers and Barkley’s was a ferocious, tenacious player who played bigger than his height and I’m sure wilt respected that.
He would love Giannis today
This interview was on point, loved every second of it!!!!
Damn Bill Russell been having grey hair before I was even born..., best Celtic in their whole franchise history
I think Bird might have the slight edge due to his superior offense.
Reilly J Sullivan I’d put Bird over Russell too, I have Bird at 5th-6th on my all-time best players list and Russell at 7th
@@HugoSoup57 No doubt he was a better winner, just not a better player.
What a wonderful way to go down memory lane with these two idols! Wilt with the humour and bill with that wonderful laugh! Thanks to both and utube.
