I'm using the 2.82 and this has already been outdated by the inclusion of Mantaflow into the master branch. This means all these volume settings are different now.
If anybody else is having trouble with this - dont use particles and simply keyframe animate "Surface Emission" under "Flow Source" tab from a higher value to 0 Thx @CGMatter for the tutorial!!!
That was BRILLIANT! Obviously not a tutorial for bare bones beginners but i understood all of that and I've only been at this a few weeks now. Take a sub good sir!
Consergience is pretty good service imo. Since I have only one computer and it's (only) 7 years old at the time of typing, it's pretty nice to be able to outsource final rendering to someone or something else specifically since overnight rendering gets you only so far when one frame in animation at full resolution takes literally 30 minutes to render and sometimes decides to crash. Plus the rates aren't really even that bad, considering how you'd need to get second powerful computer to get anywhere close to the same speeds and that can cost thousand(s) of dosh.
*THANK GOD!* SheepIt has trouble rendering smoke simulations, and this other website charged nearly $1K for my animation that was 20 seconds and had a smoke sim in it.
Gonna have to put this one on 2x speed, tad too long for a tutorial. Also thanks for talking about those other settings, most tutorials just do a basic smoke sim and it looks completely fake, but that smoke puff was on point 10/10.
Thanks for that one, I remember guys from Quixel used Houdini for generating mattes of dense fog for their short film “Rebirth” in similar manner and was wandering if blender can do that and OH BOY HE DID IT AGAIN i don’t need Houdini 🖤
@CGMatter 0:06 not action essentials but in the current humble bundle of filmmaking tools it has actionvfx stock footage for smoke ,and debris, you can get it for a $1. Bigger smoke explosions in the bigger bundle. If get the larger bundle try out actionpro, be cool to see if there's use cases for blender.
Ok, I love your video formatting but I'm a bit lost. When I went to change the settings in 'Particle Properties' The box has "ParticleSystem" but the drop-down setting, right above Emitter, says ParticleSettings. Whereas on your screen both say ParticleSettings. Also, when I went down Physics Properties, I have a box that says "Fluid" with a camera and screen next to it whereas yours says "Smoke". and instead of mine saying Flow Source, it says Flow Behavior without any mesh or particle system options on the drop down. Can you PLEASE help me, it would mean the world.
if you want to preview your smoke: 1) Go to the cache tab on the domain 2) Under type select: Modular 3) Under "End" put in a value like 50 or 80 a) This will be the amount of frames it will smoothly preview 4) Under the Settings tab click bake 5) Wait until it is done 6) You can now smoothly preview your smoke
If anybody is using 2.93 and is fighting the smoke not following particles or simply generating in the middle of the domain after trying all these steps, try toggling Adaptive Domain on and off. I'm not sure if this is a bug but holy cow that was driving me nuts!
Speaking of smoke... any tips how to make smoke first expand rapidly (like an explosion) and once filling the space, slowing it down to "normal" speed? Also, is it possible to affect such smoke screen in Blender with objects? Let's say I want to throw a ball through a wall of smoke at high velocity, in reality I imagine that air pressure around the ball would push the smoke aside creating circular hole where the ball was passing through while also on the exit side smoke would follow the ball trajectory slightly to create somewhat of a cone, before dissipating. How would one approach such simulation, if it's even possible in Blender at all?
Fantastic work man. Can we get a similar tutorial, but for liquids/blood splatters? When youre showcasing the differences in settings can you also put them side by side, maybe loop a lil so we can really compare? Just lil ideas. Thanks!!
nice tutorial (even if it is difficult to watch it) thank you.... BUT for larger project, simulation in blender is a complete headache. It might take more than 1 hour only to bake a larger project, so Blender need to improve performance here somehow. Looks like Embergen software has managed to do the same simulations in real time..why not Blender ???
You better watch out, you better not cry. You better not pout, I'm telling you why MantaFlow is comin' to town MantaFlow is comin' to town MantaFlow is comin' to toooooooown :D
I made something similar but instead of actual sim (because i'm going to make a animation and having that would be too much for my poor pc), i used images with transparecenry smoke images that is, similiar to another tutorial to make fake smoke, it looks just as good and for a gun fire its great
i can't cache and bake mine, what am i doing wrong. i follow all the instructions to the letter? and i dont have volume info in the shading, is it an add-on? edit, i managed to bake it when i restarted blender. but the volume info?
3 minutes?! I want to watch a tutorial not a documentary
almost 4 minutes actually
Was Just about to comment that
Damn that was a dope comment.
More like 2 seconds
this tutorial is not for beginner...🤘
FootageCrate has been devastated
so sad
more like FootageCube HA

Third of the whole tutorial is just sponsored message, and even That isn't too long.
I love this channel!
Merry Christmas and Happy holidays. thanks for being there for us.
Usually, I speed up the tutorials in the video settings. For this guy, I slow it down
Ahh.... Finally a full complete tutorial.
Hell yeah
Declare bankruptcy on the default cube
holy cow I never knew that you can sim smoke from particles
thanks CGMatter for enlighting my mind all over again
no problem :)
Alumx always beating me to the CGMatter tutorials
I basically watched your video by hovering a cursor over a thumbnail
XD
The feeling that i understand your explanations clearly in a matter of minutes. it astonishes me
Jeezus Christ the amount of tutorials this man is pumping lately. You are awesome but take a break when you can!

Loved this Concierge Render tutorial, the smoke bit was also good.
If anybody else is having trouble with this - dont use particles and simply keyframe animate "Surface Emission" under "Flow Source" tab from a higher value to 0
Thx @CGMatter for the tutorial!!!
Haha love the comedic energy! Great tutorial
This isin't related but.. do you always use clothes that are a lot bigger then you??
On Linux his shirt renders even larger..
For every default cube he tortures he loses a little weight as a price to pay.

I will pay you real money to make like a full training series for smoke /fire in blender... You're the one one who I can watch at 1x speed
this kinda stupid because youtube have multiples smoke and fire tutorials
the best f-ing youtuber of all time
I Never Thought I Could Find Tutorial Like This Thank U Man U Save My Time .
I love this man's humour
bro we need more like this
I love your transitions to the sponsorships
Marvelous! The integration with Concierge, sold it. Thanks!

Woot! Yay, first video i've seen, gotta subscribe. Super job, looking forward to learning to do so much more.
