It could also be read in another way that the big man is Josh himself - he is tall (1.88metres) and he admitted in the same verse that he is 'testing the maxim...' as if he's pushing himself to the limit to keep on surviving 'one more day' so maybe he's opening shop as in trying to continue his career/life/survival - however you want to read it.
