I wonder if Matt surprises himself looking back at recordings like this. His creativity and power behind the kit is just so impressive. Keep inspiring us bro!
My man has some of the best posture around. Straight back, powerful, very little wasted movement. What efficiency, accuracy, and skill. Decades of work right here, love to see and hear it.
This gives Vinnie Collaiuta a run for his money. The speed, power, stamina, groove. The fact that he’s able to think “how about I chop this up into quintuplets in 29/147” and then immediately execute perfectly, all whilst flying round the kit at 1000 mph just boggles the mind.
@@yungnietzsche2302 Probably because you don't know what the song he's playing to actually sounds like so you can't even hear the pocket he's playing in or the groove in context.
The way that Matt effortlessly plays odd time signatures reminds me a lot of Vinnie Colaiuta at the Baked Potato. Totally different styles of music, but the drumming is oddly similar. They both really know how to mess with odd time signatures in such a cool way.
The thing is that Matt isn't that great at building up the momentum. In a solo there are rare times where he starts off grooving and chilling but he cannot maintain that. It's alway from 0 to 100. Thát is the difference between him and a Collaiuta or Mangini etc..
This drumming with all these ghosts notes so precise and inspirational fills in time and all of your content is amazing man!!!I love your drumming!!!Top!!!The sound also for a gig is unbeatable!!!
Going to say what's obvious: Matt is an incredibly-gifted drummer, on top of working his ass off to deliver it. He clearly has worked hard in so many ways. GOAT.
Right? This is crazy. I'm so blown away by his progress - he was insanely good years ago, but now it's way beyond my comprehension how damn good he became...
That is so incredible, Matt! Absolutely love how you improvise in SUCH a beautiful, creative, intentional, explorative yet powerful way. It's always a treat to watch you play and push the musical boundaries with Animals as Leaders. Much respect from India!🙏❤️
Just saw you in Orlando and it was fucking incredible, I still feel like I got away with something I didn't deserve. Such an honor to see your madness in person
I’ve been calling Matt “the new Vinnie” for years now but his new look is is giving me a strong Bonham vibe. Either way he is by far one our modern day greats. We are truly blessed as drummers to be able to witness his greatness. Thanks Matt!!!
I saw them just Monday, and I must say that this is peak prog drumming capability. Not to mention Garstka himself is an incredibly wise and humble human being, definitely a highlight of my year.
Just saw you last friday in Atlanta. Incredible set. I intentionally got balcony seats so I could have a clear view of you and the drums. Already can’t wait for the next show!
I flew to the Atlanta show, was so happy to meet you afterwards at about 1:30am out back to get you to sign my copy of The Joy Of Motion. I just wanted to say thank you again for that and the incredible show. Hope to meet you again someday!
mans just insulted me in 2 ways
Only 2 ? Lol it's alot more insults than 2 😉
Easily one of the Most technical drummers EVER!! and the guts to improvise stuff of this caliber Live gives me Chills!!! MATT IS THE GOAT!!
This is why you're one of my favorite drummers of all time....always trying new things and not afraid to hang it out there.
How his right calf doesn't start smoking is beyond me. God bless Matt Garstka, my favorite drummer of all time.
By drinking semen of the gods, you will gain endless stamina of said right calf
Do you know the name of this song by any chance?

It really is seen him play up close it's pretty amazing

No it doesn’t. It’s very technically impressive, but the groove and feel doesn’t even come close to the big dog Vinnie!

Seeing you all perform live was well worth the wait for me, I waited over 10 years to see you guys perform
That whole kit sounds just perfect. Really accentuates the finesse and immense skill in your playing.
So much beautiful tension and release in this solo!
Loved seeing this live in Dallas!! Those cross-overs were insane!
Dude I used to think that matt was one of the greatest drummers of all time, but now I think he is the greatest drummer or all time

the Atlanta show was absolutely killer, great job as always Matt!
I saw them just Monday, and I must say that this is peak prog drumming capability. Not to mention Garstka himself is an incredibly wise and humble human being, definitely a highlight of my year.
This is what gets me fired up about your playing. You let it all hang out and push as hard as you can than play something safe. Inspirational.

This dude keeps getting better. Is there a limit?? BREAK IT MATT
Beautiful. Amazing. Awesome. Keep it up! Cheers! 🍻

Yeah man. Matt Garstka has created a new level of mastery that is not of this world. This is truly a once in a lifetime talent we are witnessing.
Two more days till I see you in Tempe! Can't wait!

Mindblowing...IMO best on Earth currently
I hope he can play like this for a long time, his sense or mastery of metric modulation is just amazing.
You absolutely killed the show at the house of blues in Orlando. best show of my life.
When the second one started I thought I'd pick the first but I think it won me over with the sheer number of ghost notes per second in the mid.
Great solo Matt! The DW kit sounds incredible.
PURE LANGUAGE!!! What a beast dude!!
it's simply fire
Mind blowing play

Unreal 🔥
I literally had a Seizure at the baltimore soundstage when you went ham on the solo. Like a good one. It was amazing.
