Well, nice job guys, nice job Steave. You managed to stay with the "fun uncle" and drink side by side. Romaninans do take pride when they outdrink their drink buddy. Haha. Romanians have strong drinks, not recommended to mix them. I think you found out why:). All in all, you passed the romanization test, drink with a senior guy, eating untill you can't eat no more, and going home on your own feet. 6 stars! Btw, the "fun uncle" is called "balkan dad" around here
This is the perfect example of how romanians party in the familly when there''s birthdays or any reunions actually. This is pretty much to the core of our spirit. You should really experience Christmas or weddings. Thats were things go wild.

Most seniors know either no other language or just some bits of some languages no real grammar, but they are usually open to the idea of foreign languages and will use phrases in any language they might know a word in (usually French, Spanish, Italian, some German, some Hungarian or even Russian), and most people in their 30s and lower can probably hold on some level a conversation in English (exceptions do exist obviously)
Kinda split. The end of the communism regime shows that quite well, actually. Elderly folks will probably know some Russian since, during communism, it was mandatory. Thus, you won't really find older people who know English here (there are exceptions tho, especially between teachers) However, most young people know English quite well. It's even being taught in some kindergartens. I had my first English lesson when I was 6. Universities also have optional courses for languages such as German, Russian, French, Dutch or even Chinese or Japanese. So I think the country is going in the right direction with this
La Mulți Ani Stela and best wishes for the whole family. I think Ana made a big mistake, she could prepare you and told not to eat for 2-3 days before going to the birthday party 🤣🤣🤣
We all have an uncle like that. I am so sorry you couldn't say no. But they have good intentions. You guys are really really REALLY nice and I honestly like you a lot ❤
I love this video so much, it pretty much covered the classic Romanian birthday, the cards game with all the arguing, the classic uncle that is hyper energetic and present at all grills, knows magic, drinks a lot and is loud at all times, the țuică, vin, palincă and too much food that lead into the dance (horă), the feeling of absolutely fullness that you have to push through to also taste the desert, all the food that you ate, god. Hope you made good memories, noroc!
Thank you, Ionut! We did have an amazing time at the party. Everyone was so welcoming and tried to make us feel at home. People like them are the reason why we want to come back to Romania every year. So we sure will be back again
Steve ! In our country we give kids some small shot of wine ...just so they will get used to it 🙂There is no such thing as 21 years of age. Only the shops/restaurants are restricted to not serving drinks to less than 18. But , how can you enforce this in a village ? Even the local policeman will have some , on duty , as a prevention against COVID. Am talking about tzuica of course 🙂
I love Romania because they share things. I have been to such tables in Scandinavia and they did not treat you like this. Plus, Romanians are also very careful with children, not just putting you in your mouths. Lol

I lived quite a few years in Romania and ate sarrmale in many homes I was invited, but never did I eat sarmale with sour cream. Seems that now people feel richer so they add more stuff to traditional dishes, but it makes no sense, since the cabbage is sour and the dish has enough fat, so at some point you have to say enough. So my verdict is: sour cream only with stuffed vine leaves or stuffed peppers, which are summer dishes. Or if you make sarmale with sweet cabbage, but it's not traditional..

And you already know how the plating goes per person, it's already dished or they bring a pot to every table so you can help yourself. So far, all the weddings I've been to, have had the traditional 30 min long sarba, and everybody danced. And that's beside the other music that can keep you mostly on your feet, if they aren't serving the food ( in which case, they play soft music). It's how you burn off all the calories in a fun way and make place for more food... and drinks.
