I have to say this: the Dacians were not barbarians by any measure of the word. The Dacians were the people that lived here 2000 years ago and they were protecting their country from the invaders, the Romans, who wanted to get the gold, silver and other important resources that existed plentiful in the area. Sarmisegetusa Regia (the real capital of the Dacians) only fell because of a betrayal and Decebal took his own life because he knew if he were captured, he's be humiliated by the Romans. The Romans almost completely erased it (as it was built in the mountains) and created Sarmisegetusa Ulpia Traiana in the lower lands, so it wouldn't be as easily defendable. Also, before Decebal, another big leader of the Geto-Daco-Thracians was Burebista, who was another badass leader of Dacia before the time of Christ. He was able to unite all the scattered tribes of the area in one big powerful country. Great Dacia contained areas of (aside from current Romania): current Bulgaria, Ukraine, Republic of Moldova, Hungary. He was one of the first Dacian leaders to fight against the invasion of the Roman army. The Dacians had an impressive culture, built cities especially in the mountains, knew how to properly work with gold, silver and other precious metals, were great merchants, were quite religious (Zamolxis was the main deity) and were very welcoming with anyone visiting them.
The romans called everyone barbarians, that's the missleading. And maybe they were comparable to them, but also there were different levels of "barbarians"
Did you just compare a state from USA of 4,5 million people with one country from Europe with 20 million people inside and 15 million outside the country and bonus thousands of years of history???? Do better American do better

The second longest river on the continent after the Volga, the Danube crosses no less than 10 countries from its source to its discharge into the Black Sea, through the well-known Danube Delta on the territory of our country. The Danube originates in the Black Forest Mountains in Germany, and its route continues in Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Moreover, the Danube passes through four capitals - Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade. Love you ❤️❤️❤️

Lots of people all over the world they come to Romania. If im not wrong you both had the most time spend in Romania Beautiful Country ever been im glad you enjoy the here ❤
Hello beautiful people, as so many wrote more complete information about the Dacian culture, I am not going to add anything except this: "The word "barbarian" came from the word "Barbar" which means people who have a big beard, or better said, the beard people. Since the Roman empire was, a very interesting culture, most of the depictions of their culture show faces and statues of men without any beards, For them, Dacians were barbarians because all most all had beards. Different culture for Romans as they used nearly everything that today you can find in Walmart, perfumes, powders, and sophisticated types of oil, from all over the conquered world. Fashion is also another cultural difference since Dacians were traditionalists. There are many to say about this but, one more thing, the Roman empire didn't conquer all of Dacia, only 12% of it. Emperor Traian knew Latin and also knew the language spoken by Dacians which was slightly different. He didn't need a translator when he had to talk with Dacian people. That says a lot about those times, and Traian really appreciated Dacians and Decebal as their king. Last thing to add, aside from that there are many people with the first name Decebal. The name Decebal in the old Dacian language means this, BAL, is the name of a bear. This is what they called bears and DECE, is number ten. Now, if you put them together, DECE+ BAL you got DECEBAL, which means a man with the power of ten bears. I apologize for my long dissertation, but I thought it is nice to share this with you. Have fun and enjoy your life guys.
The state of many of the buildings at Băile Herculane is honestly a crime. It could probably be the nicest bath resort in Romania, perhaps in the region, but the whole potential is currently wasted.
That's because those are private properties and the owners are basically waiting for the old building to collapse in order to replace them with some kitsch hotels "Mamaia style". We can only blame the government for not coming up with laws that would confiscate historical buildings from owners who don't want or can't afford to renovate.
It was not a barbaric king, even in the ancient Roman manuscripts the country was refers as “The Kingdom of Dacia”. The country had a capital city, hundreds of tons of gold, etc, they even had water pipes bringing water from far distances, the Romans didn’t conquer the capital city just by battle, they cut the water supplies going into the city. King’s Decebalus treasury was estimated at 165 tons of gold and about 330 tons of silver, the Romans found the treasury in the river Sargesia (modern river Strei). The gold and silver combined in that treasury was worth about 3.9 billion sesterces or roughly 6 years worth of the entire military budget of the Roman empire.
Welcome to Romania, i hope you like our country and enjoy this Road Trip and maybe more people is coming and you tell your friends about Romania, Respect
LOVE you guys! Steve you appeared on television called Digi24. It was a video about how visitors enjoy Roumanian traditional food. You were presented enjoying “varza a la Cluj” and savarina!😊
Thank you for this nice video, also for not showing that much of Herculane, I know the historical center is in a very unfortunate state right now. Hopefully it will be done something about it in the future.

I saw a documentary that was saying that the dacian society was the second most technologically developed after romans in that ancient time, so dacians were not barbarians. Apart from this, awesome documentary, thank you for it. 🤗
The Dacian wall was famous, you can see it at Sarmisegetusa. Also the Dacian sword called a falx. The Romans designed a special kind of armour just to protect against this weapon. And their war flag in the shape of a wolf's head with a dragon tail.

Excellent vlog Steve&Ivana 😍 Iron Gate Gorge is very special and great... I did the same route at the beginning of September, the barbarians were all the kingdoms that were not part of the Roman Empire, Dacia was a big powerful kingdom with strong cities and fortresses in the Orastie mountains in Hunedoara county you can visit the ruins of Daco-Roman cities.

NO ....is just the area where I spend quite of time years ago, Oltenia/Romania. Enjoy and a big THANK YOU for you videos and SIX STARS !!!
OK, Steve, you should know by now that going faster than a Romanian train is not such a big deal. When it comes to trains, Romanian Railways tend to take things reeeaaaally slow 😀. Great video, once again (actually the videos are better and better every time) !!! Fan-facts about Decebal's statue : It' s not finished , this is not the final look, it's about 60% done (actually I kind of like it like this, rough, blended with the nature). The nose is the second draft - first version became dangerously unstable so they had to dynamite it. It took more than 10 years, a team of 12 sculptors - alpinists, more than 1 million dollars, paid by an amateur historian, (not Romanian authorities) - Iosif Constantin Drăgan ; the inscription at the base says in Latin: DECEBALUS REX - DRAGAN FECIT (King Decebal - made by Dragan). Right on the opposite side of Danube, on the Serbian part, there is a 2000 yo antique memorial plaque: "Tabula Traiana"(4 by 1,75 meters), risen by Emperor Traian to celebrate Romans' victory against Dacians - and the story is told on the Traian's column in Rome.
From what I found out he was a far-right nationalist also having conflicts with the Romanian Legion. He managed to escape with the party 's treasury he was in charge of when the Soviet invasion started. He became a millionaire in Italy. His legacy is a cultural one as of the most far-right members.
Your videos are extremely lovely! By the way, guys, as far as I know the word barbarian was used by romans to refer to pretty much anyone else. Hope to see more of you two, you're incredible!
I hope Herculane Baths will rise again at it's first beauty because it is an unique place in Europe. Oltenia region is beautiful but is very underrated , everybody promoting only Transylvania.
We had family members travel the Danube by Riverboat through this area and they came enthralled by Romania. We planned another trip there but it was interrupted. We still hope to get back there soon. I was on a Danube cruise in Germany and Austria but it looks like Romania is more beautiful.
The Danube is the biggest river in Europe and starts in like Germany or Netherlands and ends in the Romanian Delta spilling into the Black Sea. Also, that stone sculpture of Decebalus is the largest rock sculpture in Europe, and she is right, it's kind of like Romania's Mount Rushmore. Another great video guys, thanks 👍
Hi there, I am happy that you feel good in our Country , we wish you a nice stay. If you are amaze about our history of Dacians. Dacii were among the first nations in Europe just come to the capital of Dacia Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa there as some amazing places here aka Hunedoara/Orăștie.
After i saw u having the bath, are you ready for something similar in Tuscany ? (just trying to guess where you went this week) 😁, can`t wait to see your upcoming videos. Glad to see again, wherever you go enjoying each moment.
Oh, you went to Orsova and Baile Herculane. 😍Thank you guys. I miss those places so much, especially Baile Herculane. I've been there in summer, spring, winter, but never managed to visit in autumn even though I planned it for a long time, knowing the fall is the perfect season to visit. Thank you again for the lovely video and for the oportunity to see those amazing colours and feel like I am there with you. 💖
We should all donate to archaeologists who want to save relics still being destroyed, erasing a mighty culture and identity. But it is a sign we should be citizens of Heaven, never mind Earth
Yes there are many men called Decebal in Romania (and abroad). Thanks for your love of Romania We’ll keep it locked on your channel. Romanian here who moved to Canada in 1997. Coming back to Romania for a whole month! Now in May Hello from Florida!
The Danube area you visited is actually a lake. A big dam was built downstream and the water level went up by 33m (I hope I am not mistaking here). What is really interesting is a cave (Peștera Ponicova) that starts on one side of the mountain and ends up in the Danube. A small boat can actually drop people directly inside the cave. There is also another cave that can bd visited only from the water but I forgot the name.
Imagine being born there 😉. I was, so I was just very happy to see your video and your appreciation for everything sorounding you. There's so much history! Try watching two movies: Adakaleh and Decebal.
Dacia had a lot of gold and silver and also really rich in salt, also had a developed sociaty. It is interesting history if you need something to read on a long train jurney ;)
Foarte bine !! The “Barbarians” castle 🏰 is at Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa !! Go visit is cool !! I would like to recommend you guys ASTRA Museum in Sibiu ! Enjoy 🇷🇴!! Best regards!
We actually have people named after Decebal. And even one guy named Decebal Traian Remes ( check it out), who is now dead but was like a romanian politician. Decebal Traian, how cool is that? :D Thank you for the vlog, I love you both!!

Your videos are extremely lovely! By the way, guys, as far as I know the word barbarian was used by romans to refer to pretty much anyone else. Hope to see more of you two, you're incredible!
Honestly the best part about Herculane are the hiking trails just outside of the town and the amazing camping spots haha
I hope Herculane Baths will rise again at it's first beauty because it is an unique place in Europe. Oltenia region is beautiful but is very underrated , everybody promoting only Transylvania.
Herculane is Banat region my friend.
@@lupak99 no one is considering that is in Banat even if it's 10 km away from MH county
We had family members travel the Danube by Riverboat through this area and they came enthralled by Romania. We planned another trip there but it was interrupted. We still hope to get back there soon. I was on a Danube cruise in Germany and Austria but it looks like Romania is more beautiful.
Pentru sinceritate şi real cu obiectivitate cea ce ați zis ,Eu din inimă Vă mulțumesc.
The Danube is not the longest river in Europe.
Volga e cel mai mare râu din Europa iar Dunărea izvorăște din Germania, munții Pădurea Neagră🙂
The Dunabe starts in the Block Forest, Germany and it passes through 7 countries ❤
Beautiful view point of the Danube river!❤❤❤
Thank you !!!
Forgot to mention, that your vlog is the best about Romania. not even native romaians can come even closer.
Beautiful!!,next time when you visit us try to go to the Raven Nest,is located in Transylvania and i guarantee that you will enjoy the view
Enjoy your stay!
Btw, also love hot baths and it's wonderful you get the space all to ourselves after the hike👍💗
After i saw u having the bath, are you ready for something similar in Tuscany ? (just trying to guess where you went this week) 😁, can`t wait to see your upcoming videos.
Glad to see again, wherever you go enjoying each moment.
Gained so much knowledge and information by watching all your travel videos. Great job, Steve lvana. Love you both ❤️
You guys are amazing! You made me love Romania again!
aaaah yes, I simply love the nature of my country ^^ glad you guys love it too.
We all we should promote the country it is a duty if is not a love thank you for uploud
We should all donate to archaeologists who want to save relics still being destroyed, erasing a mighty culture and identity. But it is a sign we should be citizens of Heaven, never mind Earth
The romans considered "barbarians" all those who were not part of the empire. Dacians were not savages.
Ate in same place 4 years ago where you ate the sandwiches! 😊
Yes there are many men called Decebal in Romania (and abroad).
Thanks for your love of Romania
We’ll keep it locked on your channel.
Romanian here who moved to Canada in 1997.
Coming back to Romania for a whole month! Now in May
Hello from Florida!
You're grreat guys♡
Thx
Traian is a more common name in Romania, but Decebal is ultra-rare.
we had a one Decebal Traian Remes guy in the goverment some 20 years ago :))
True, I think you meet a couple in life, same for the ones with the name Dacian
the Dacians cooked cabbage according to the same recipe. VARZĂ is a word of Dacian origin, not Latin
Just amazing! Well done mate! Keep it going...
Bravoooi🎉🎉🎉
The Danube area you visited is actually a lake. A big dam was built downstream and the water level went up by 33m (I hope I am not mistaking here). What is really interesting is a cave (Peștera Ponicova) that starts on one side of the mountain and ends up in the Danube. A small boat can actually drop people directly inside the cave.
There is also another cave that can bd visited only from the water but I forgot the name.
Over 20 villages were covered both in Yugoslavia (nowdays Serbia) and Romania plus the isle Adakale.
The Danube is even bigger close to the sea, in the Danube Delta. You should visit if you haven't already
They have and loved it to bits.
Imagine being born there 😉. I was, so I was just very happy to see your video and your appreciation for everything sorounding you. There's so much history! Try watching two movies: Adakaleh and Decebal.
Verry nice and beautiful
Dacia had a lot of gold and silver and also really rich in salt, also had a developed sociaty. It is interesting history if you need something to read on a long train jurney ;)
There are 16 Decebal in Canada, 22 in USA, 2 in Brazil. 952 in the world, most of them in Romania or Romanian origin.
Foarte bine !! The “Barbarians” castle 🏰 is at Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa !! Go visit is cool !!
I would like to recommend you guys ASTRA Museum in Sibiu !
Enjoy 🇷🇴!!
Best regards!
You are doing it so right, you were born for😁🙏
Sunteti acasa la mine-Drobeta-Turnu -Severin!!!!! LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!
We actually have people named after Decebal. And even one guy named Decebal Traian Remes ( check it out), who is now dead but was like a romanian politician. Decebal Traian, how cool is that? :D Thank you for the vlog, I love you both!!
That's right, and purely Romanian he was known to have taken a bribe in palinca and sausages when he was minister in office (!)
Lovely vlog!
