    There is no chip -- there, saved you a useless watch.

    Ahh yes, the one thing UA-cam needed was another Rolex video. A surefire way to get those clicks up and improve your subscriber base, right?! ...Oh, wait, someone is telling me the mass market luxury watch boom is over and the remaining watch enthusiasts don't care about Rolex...Could someone let John know- I'd stick around and watch this video, but I have some paint drying I need to keep an eye on.

    I’m w you John. I’ve also worked w chips and agree that they don’t work in all environments. And I’d add: Rolex could run into privacy concerns in some jurisdictions.

    I mean its probably to curb replicas, maybe make it hold a link chain.

    What Rolex is working on is hologram that will be on the dial.
    The dial will be able to be scanned by Rolex and give the info including the Serial Number, model number and even when the watch was serviced.

    Bvlgari also had a NFC chip in one of their watches. A extremely useless gimmick which just makes the watch more complex for no reason... no thanks!

    I hope they do.
    I think it makes sense at the price point.
    Specifically to know what ur getting.
    Know where it has been.
    Know exactly when it was bought sold ect.
    Papers will not be as important.
    I think it makes perfect sense in today’s world.

    Simple question, where is the electric power for the chip going to come from in a mechanical watch ?
    Quartz yes, automatic movements do not have any electrical power generated

  • @duffydon1741
    @duffydon1741 23 дні тому +2

    Not sure what Rolex is trying to achieve, unless these chips are embedded in the making of the case of the watch and nowhere around the movement, then it will be useless!!!

    Rather than make their watches available to consumers by cracking down on AD behavior, they waist their time on this? A lot of patent never get used, this is likely to be of those.

    One more reason to side with Omega, a truly innovative and not invasive watch company!

    Citizen, Seiko and Casio all make steel and titanium watches that can receive signals from WWVB and similar transmitters in the 40-70 kHz range. This is through a metal case with a water resistance of 10-20 bar. Some watches also manage to communicate over Bluetooth (2.4 GHz) or receive GPS signals (1.1-1.5 GHz). These watches are not Faraday cages. If Rolex wants some RF transparency they can manage to add it.
    Tha said, I doubt that they'll put an RFID chip in a mechanical watch, but technically it should not be too difficult.

    Will as long the microchips are made and installed in Switzerland, I guess that keeps a Rolex as Swiss made.

    • @ams914
      @ams914 23 дні тому

      To be Swiss Made, only 60% of components must be made in Switzerland. However, there are companies that go much farther beyond this, and I think Rolex is 100%.

      @@ams914Yes 👍 Rolex is 100p Swiss made. Now the Swatch group is a different story. It's a well known fact that the Swatch group has been outsourcing from China for years

      @@lonewolfemcquade8133 Doesn't matter too much to me. Quality is quality and Omega movements are probably better than Rolex's at this point.
