Fred Fisher was born in Germany in 1875 and after serving briefly in the Germany Navy emigrated to New York (where he wrote the song about Chicago!) He's in the Hall of Fame with several #1 songs as a Tin Pan Alley songwriter at first. His daughter Doris became so famous--even while he was alive that her music was featured in about 20 movies and with many many hits, she was known then as "Queen of the Juke Box."
The virtuoso clarinetist here, LARRY COMBS first spent his time with the new York Symphony and Montreal Symphony and ended up in the Chicago Symphony and settling there with his virtuoso horn player of a wife. Their Chicago Chamber Group was later nominated for a grammy. I can only assume that this was performed in Chicago (witness the laughter).

Is this the "limited projection" of the Leblanc Opus that clarinet players have experienced and talk about? Larry Combs drowns as soon as the trumpets and the rest of the orchestra raise their voices.

He's standing in the back of the orchestra, of course he's going to have problems projecting as a soloist. Has nothing to do with his choice of clarinet.

Tried it in 2005 and in test of Selmer Saint Louis,Buffet RC and R13 both Prestige,Festival and Tosca the Leblanc OpusII had by far the least projection.
I don't know if more open mouthpiece and/or a lighter reed will help. The sound here does not go well with this music too soft and lacking ring and singin quality too it to drive in a large concert hall.
After playing in Harpa then just opened concert hall in Reykjavík Iceland(my wind band was secon bin after the symphony orchestra) in 2011 I'm so glad that I did choose the Buffet Festival and closed mouthpieces with V12 3.5+ reeds like Walter Grabner SW1 personal(model prior to his Chicago model) or Charles Bay M-M(black) from 2002 or one red one(don't rember the names)MO-L from 2000 to get a bit more air through and singing solo quality.
