@ShinyAndTouchable ehhh, I don't think he's as popular as david shifrin or martin frost. Maybe he sounded good a long time ago, idk. By the way, what's your setup? mine is buffet r13 Bb, and buffet e11 in A with vandoren optimum ligature and b45 mp
@ShinyAndTouchable If it's that good, why do people play on r13? I mean it sounds good and durable, but I don't feel it's even and dark (rather bright or focused).
This is before he was fully committed to backun clarinets (I think this is before the MoBa was created) but now he plays uebel clarinets and has split with backun.
@ShinyAndTouchable that's my situation, but i think fatboy is more swag in my opinion in appearance and performance, especially for a resistant A clarinet.
@ShinyAndTouchable i know, that's why you run with the brooms underneath ur crotch and also the golden snitch is a guy who runs around trying not to get caught
as a mere busker, I realise these guys can play, but oh, where is vibrato which gives the clarinet such lovely warm tone. I wonder if they have ever heard Jimmie Noone or, more recently, Kenny Davern play.
Vibrato on clarinet is very much debated, however there are plenty of places, even in classical music where vibrato is encouraged, first thing that comes to mind for me is Brahms with his Sonatas and the Trio. Richard Mühlfeld, who was Brahms' friend and the guy who he wrote those pieces for. As much as we know, Mühlfeld used plenty of vibrato, and those pieces are definitely lacking without vibrato. So, it's ultimately up to your interpretation.
I've played clarinet from middle school through college and never once have they encouraged vibrato. It's basically not a thing. If you play flute or violin they teach that day one. For clarinet, they don't, simple as that.

No vibrato! Ever in classical clarinet! Well at least hardly ever. Come on now.
@ShinyAndTouchable I kind have to agree it's overpriced, and that it's not tuned very well, especially the lower notes where they play unbelievably flat and sometimes in tune (don't know how). I find r13s to be a little resistant to me or maybe that's how all clarinets are. Im fine with my r13, but I'm hoping a fatboy barrel which I saved enough for would allow me to play with ease on both my A clarinet (especially) and my Bb r13, unlike my chadash barrel.
@ShinyAndTouchable I can't say he's a bad player since he plays like 100 times better than me, but if I were to choose the best, it would be martin frost then david shifrin, sharon kam, ricardo morales, sabine meyer then Julian Bliss. I hear larry combs is good, but I never heard him play solo. but for sound, i say my teacher has a great tone
this is my favorite backun video.
This is faintly hilarious with the sea of Ligeti-like clarinet lowings in the background
@MrElaughman yup. they were asking who'd play what part. so they just did it from their right to left 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Julian being first.
Man: How much does this trio cost?
Larry Combs: You can't afford it!
XD
Beautiful......many greetings from OK-Dreamband. CD "Clarinet-Dreams" is available for download (iTunes, amazon).
I hope everyone going to Clarinetfest in Nebraska in the next couple of days has fun!
Very gooooodd!
))))) Ricardo the best
What is this piece called?
+Jinming Li it is called Divertimento No. 1 by W.A. Mozart
Nice and spontaneous!!! Question? Ricardo playing on Tosca? Not!
Wait is Ricardo using a buffet Tosca?
Game Addiction yes
Thought he was a backun artist...
this was before he fully committed in using everything Backun basically. But now he's going with the crystal mouthpiece actually
Ray Zhang now he’s a Uebel artist
Fernando Herrera sadly, uebel’s clarinets suck, except the one he designed
@ShinyAndTouchable very nice. anything different about yamahas?
their sounds don't match that well. Julian's tone is warm but a little thin. The two others have a darker sound
it's also nice to hear 3 clarinet beasts screwing up rhythms and articulation; I don't feel so badly now LOL
Correct analysis
Os sons destes clarinetes sao muito bom, prazeroso ao ouvir!
this makes me wish i could afford a wooden clarinet
@ShinyAndTouchable Where are you studying clarinet?
I mean what is the brand of the mouthpiece did Larry combs using? Not his own mouthpiece
@ShinyAndTouchable ehhh, I don't think he's as popular as david shifrin or martin frost. Maybe he sounded good a long time ago, idk. By the way, what's your setup? mine is buffet r13 Bb, and buffet e11 in A with vandoren optimum ligature and b45 mp
is Ricardo using a buffet tosca with a moba bell and barrel add on.
Yes he is
belo sound
is this all sightreading?
What is this song called
+Joe Osornio Divertimento No. 1 by W.A. Mozart
Hey do you by chance know the specific movements of the multiple parts in the video?
Ricardo should have played some orchestral excerpts as a finale...
what mouthpiece they use?
who is weak link? :-)
what mouthpiece did larry combs play ?
What piece are they playing?
What clarinet Larry Combs use ?
@ShinyAndTouchable If it's that good, why do people play on r13? I mean it sounds good and durable, but I don't feel it's even and dark (rather bright or focused).
I really dont like the brightness and thiness of the bliss clarinet.
Peter Sohn I
ok
Larry uses a Richard Hawkins model R mouthpiece
@ShinyAndTouchable it's a legit game.
Ricardo plays a Buffet Tosca? What? Seems like he doesn't always play Backun..
This is before he was fully committed to backun clarinets (I think this is before the MoBa was created) but now he plays uebel clarinets and has split with backun.
たしかにバックンの音はきつくなくやら若いけど、裏を返せば倍音が少ないのか
@ShinyAndTouchable that's my situation, but i think fatboy is more swag in my opinion in appearance and performance, especially for a resistant A clarinet.

Vibrato is frowned upon in the classical clarinet world.
+C@ptain_Jack It's such a disappointment too. Vibrato on Clarinet is beautiful.
Vibrato on clarinet is very much debated, however there are plenty of places, even in classical music where vibrato is encouraged, first thing that comes to mind for me is Brahms with his Sonatas and the Trio. @ShinyAndTouchable so is flutter tonguing on clarinet
@ShinyAndTouchable i know it sounds terrible, but I still do it to entertain myself by impersonating benny goodman (in a bad way) when I'm depressed.
@ShinyAndTouchable Lame by appearance, but really, once you get into it, it's fun, I am my school's quidditch team too lol
@ShinyAndTouchable I kind have to agree it's overpriced, and that it's not tuned very well, especially the lower notes where they play unbelievably flat and sometimes in tune (don't know how). @ShinyAndTouchable sorry, no. I know Harvard and Yale have great quidditch teams. LOL
Probably his own mouthpiece.
@ShinyAndTouchable U calling me an idiot, I call flute players an idiot when they can't even flutter or double tongue at all.
@ShinyAndTouchable I can't say he's a bad player since he plays like 100 times better than me, but if I were to choose the best, it would be martin frost then david shifrin, sharon kam, ricardo morales, sabine meyer then Julian Bliss. he doesn't
@ShinyAndTouchable omg, his tone is so thin and uncolorful. playing skills are good, but the tone is just depressing
meh
BAD
julian sucks compared to Morales and Combs
Joel Cardoso well they r like decades older than him.Ans plus when he gets to theor age he is going to be even more amazing than he already is
