I've recently decided to just collect 1 of each card in my personal pokedex collection. This saves me money and let's me go at a slower pace with my collecting. Because oh boy can i get carried away buying cards on eBay, whatnot, target, etc... lol!
And then whenever I get a nicer card than what I currently have, I'll just swap it out.
Not saying this is the right way to collect but this is a way that I found works for me.

I love how you brought up there are different types of collectors out there. Pokémon 151 was the first set I wanted to master. I realized though that I can’t choose to master every set or else I would get bored and spend too much money. I like collected sets and singles that I feel have a chance to carry value. I also have a few random cards that might not have much value but the artwork is phenomenal. Great video as always.

Really awesome video! I know its easy to be all over the place when it comes to collecting. My main focus for the next couple of months is to just complete my 151 set. That is one set I feel is worthy of mastering, so until I complete that mission, I wont look at too many other things. At the same time it's very hard to pass up on a good deal if I come across one. Wish me luck lol

I mainly collect eevee/eeveelution products to keep sealed. I also kept 2 etbs and a booster box of evolving skies sealed I figured the amount of eeveelutions in the set would fit into my sealed collection very well and it was the set I started collecting when I returned to the hobby.

I have noticed vintage is slowly creeping up again. I’m going to say it’s attributed to the release of 151. Lots of new people have come in recently and I’m seeing a common trend of people completing 151 and moving directly to vintage collecting. Vintage hit bottom and is climbing. Buy now before it’s too late!

On one hand this is great, on the other hand I know personally that this puts a massive amount of pressure on LGSs. It didn't get cheaper coming from distribution, I can almost guarantee that.

I just started this week. I am starting in the 151 area
My son started collecting Obsidian flames, we are only 31 cards away from finishing, at this point no sense buying packs so geting last few as individuals.
I think we will start the 151 but they are so much more expensive

@jrgsteel do you trust eBay I have usually just used tcgplayer because they have always been so great about refunding me if there was any issues but I always felt like ebay was more sketchy for some reason like I'd have a higher reseal chance what are your thoughts?

What do you think about collecting the Amazing Rares Cards for Vivid Voltage and from Shining Fates ?
I've opened like 150 151 packs I got about 20 cards left for a master set. One being nidoqueen reverse halo I got like 6 nidokings and not a single nidoqueen. Hoping for a god pack in my next opening after that I'm just buying the last of the singles luckily most are cheap

Question... New to collecting and want to know if there is a differnce in pull rate between ETBs and booster packs. Should I be focusing on one more than the other. I feel the price and accessibility for ETBs (especially 151) is much more attainable and slightly more affordable.
Apperently there is no difference in pull rates..but I haven't really ever gotten anything good out of Etbs..but im investing in them

Fusion Strike is an excellent set that I'm a big fan of. Definitely underrated if you ask me.

Just started collecting again but I started with Paldean fates not knowing 151 is more of a throwback set 😭😭😭 now I’m stuck between finishing paldean fates or starting 151 because of the nostalgia
Both good sets, 151 isn't going anywhere while PF will fall off over time.

Crazy I stopped collecting because the best art work lack master pieces after the pandemic… overall I like old things…I have bought some collection boxes just to invest and not to open, but I might buy a little bit more…
I know Evolving skies has skyhigh price tag. So i suggest look out for sealed products with evolving skies inside, Since they are typically undervalued if you consider the Evolving skies you get.

Shiny Treasure EX at $65 is a no brainer! Better than Shiny Star V and those are $180 two years later. Definitely picking up a sealed case of Shiny Treasure EX!

I want to get some SV 151 tins and booster bundles but they are out of stock everywhere or overpriced in my area.
Probably not. ETBs and UPCs will be available in stores for a while still but the booster bundles and tins are pretty much done stocking I'd say. Although no one truly knows for sure?

Can I hold onto my packs that aren’t in boxes? They’re unopened Japanese 151 packs but will they go up in value over time like the other items? Got them for £5 each will they be worth more in a year or 2 time? I’m new any help would be great
Supply and demand. 151 is already going up in value because the set is so cool. I don't know how to find out when something is out of print, but once the only way to get new cards for the set is through the secondary market the price will rise more. Basically as long as Pokemon cards remain popular it seems they will rise in value over the years, the longer the better. Try finding a sealed booster box from 15 years ago for less than 2k. Ex Crystal Guardians for example is like 20k right now, because so few sealed boxes exist, and I guess people really liked the set.

They corrode too easily, I would reccomend collecting aluminum cans

151 yes, CZ yes - Paldean Fates? Hard pass. If it's anything like Shining Fates then Paldean Fates will be a total dud. Call this a hot take but all the shiny sets are overrated, Hidden Fates included.

@KingLugia2022 something broke in me when my one piece card game set 05 pre order got canceled on me and not being able to find it for a reasonable price to the point I just don't have the same joy I did for any cards unfortunately now it felt like a chore to open packs so I'm gonna move on and focus on myself. Maybe one day the spark will return but for now I'm done with all tcg.

The answer to this question is common sense… collect cards you like and sets you want. Find things you like and get them. It’s pretty simple.
I agree with 151 and crown zenith are good sets to grab,but I can see paldean fates being the next shining fates
you find them cheaper in stores of course the reason is that they process them and you have less chance to get a good card sorry that I have cracked your babble my opinion is if you like a card set find the best cards and buy them on a PSA or GCC. if you spent $500 for boxes and IF you find and if good condition and and and ! .
My idea is if companies put guaranteed a grated card every 2 or 3 boxes maybe this would change my mind about buying boxes millions for you but nothing for me Don't steal my idea without me thanks is guaranteed sales

Pokemon card in general is slowly sinking. Why? The card collecting hobby is too expensive, inconsistent illustration and design, new era Pokemon sucks, people slowly realizing it's not worth it. Even trading card stores are having a hard time selling their singles now and days.💯

It's going to really depend. There were 20 - 30% off tiktok shop coupons during black friday. I've seen people get BB for under $70
