Luther talking about Saint.... after his excommunication. Satan is clever . . . Thus, even now, among us, he is quibbling over the worship of saints and what the saints are conscious of in heaven. Thus, too, I would solve the question about adoring and invoking God dwelling in the saints. It is a matter of liberty, and it is not necessary either to do it or not to do it. To be sure, it is not so certain that God has His dwelling in many men as that He is present in the sacrament, but we do read in I Corinthians [footnote: 1 Cor 14:24-25] that an unbeliever will fall on his face and worship God in the saints, if he hears them prophesying; and Abraham saw three angels, and worshiped one Lord; and (to use your own illustration) what do we do when we “prefer one another in honor,” except honor and adore God in ourselves? Let it be free, then, to call upon God in man or out of man, in creatures or out of them, for “I fill heaven and earth,” saith the Lord. Here faith goes the safest way, for in all things it sees only God, but we cannot say enough of this to unbelievers, or prove it to them, because they are always worshiping themselves. (Letter to Paul Speratus, 13 June 1522)
Maybe if you read our Book of Concord or knew anything about our tradition, you'd realize how silly this is. Firstly, on the most basic point, even if this was Luther's view still retained, I don't know why you'd think we would care. Our entire tradition is not boiled down to Luther, on the contrary, Luther barely wrote in our confessions by comparison to Chemnitz and Melancthon. Secondly, I thought Luther was a crazy blasphemous heretic that wanted to form his own church? Odd that we would still retained Romanist views after his excommunication. Read the 95 thesis, read his works prior to 1525. Luther clearly retained Romanist views because he only wanted to purify the Church of what was immediately necessary, in a way, you show that Luther had interest in continuity with the Roman Church, only to have his views change more and more after investigation, NOT excommunication, as we can see he was already ex-communicated here and still held Papist views. Lastly,, let's see a quote from the small portion that Luther did write in our Book of Concord; (you know, the most basic book for understanding Lutheran views. Which I'm sure you totally read and didn't just copy paste a quote from Luther out of context... right?) "Of the Invocation of Saints. The invocation of saints is also one of the abuses of Antichrist conflicting with the chief article, and destroys the knowledge of Christ. Neither is it commanded nor counseled, nor has it any example [or testimony] in Scripture, and even though it were a precious thing, as it is not [while, on the contrary, it is a most harmful thing], in Christ we have everything a thousandfold better [and surer, so that we are not in need of calling upon the saints]." Martin Luther, Smalcald Articles, 1537 (15 years after the quote you cited.) Feel free to read the read of the Article, it's available online for free. By the way, you would have seen this as literally the first thing if you had google'd "Luther on the Invocation of Saints," unless you were purposefully looking for a quote out of context. He said he didn't know that Christ died for him, personally. This is something that must be revealed by God to a willing, open person who is ready to admit that he is hopelessly lost in sin without God's grace through faith in Jesus' propitiation. But the problem is that the Catholic Church mostly teaches the layperson that Christianity is all about being a good Catholic. They say that Jesus died for sin, but they foster faith in the Catholic Church much more than they teach the importance of a personal faith in Jesus Christ and a living relationship of daily intimate fellowship with God the Holy Spirit. (Of course this will vary from parish priest to parish priest.) As a former cradle Catholic myself, I remember how woefully unprepared I was for the infilling of the Holy Spirit (which occurred when I was 18); the Church didn't teach me that personal communication between God and a believer was something to be expected and desired. It really isn't fair of you to accuse Matthew of lying when he's telling his personal experience. Do you think everyone in the Catholic Church has the same depth of spiritual understanding that you have?
@@rexlion4510 Then who did he think Christ died for? The problem is not with Church teaching, but his immaturity and lack of interest in his youth. This is not uncommon even in Protestism, that youths claim their short comings were due to their parents or the church not making them religious. I know he is lying about his experiences. The prosperity gospel is all about having faith in Christ having a personal relationship, yet Christ actually call you to be in one body of believers, not just an feel good self centered relationship. Also it is in Scripture where the pillar and Bulwark of the truth is the Church. The bride of Christ is the Church. Your personal relationship with Christ is not a true relationship if you are protesting his bride.
How do you explain knowledgeable Lutherans that we are in a great witness, and that prayers of Job were far better than his friends praying directly to God?
Having gone to A Catholic School myself, I know he is lying they never mentioned scripture. It is mentioned in the Class room, and in the Mass. I know more about scripture as an 8th grader than this guy is able to communicate. What you don't get is a preacher centered lecture, where he explains his opinion of scripture as if it is God Breathed. What he did was never cared to learn when he was younger and instead of admitting it , he blames a church he never put any effort into rather than admit he had no maturity to learn.
It's true. Many were. Many were poorly paid substitutes for richer prelates who had multiple clerical functions and lands. And these practices lasted for centuries even after the council of Trent. For example, in France, Cardinal Mazarin was the Abbott of 21 abbeys in France, including one where I live and collected revenue from them. However, he never set foot here or in most of his abbeys, he paid others to substitute for him.
The heresy that the blood and body are separated and do not contain all of the body, blood ,soul and divinity is what Mathew is promoting in his lack of knowledge of the lords supper.

Good luck with that…
Why??? He just didn't know his faith.
How truly SAD, hopefully he will come to his senses.
Ave Maria ❤❤❤

I like how he stated the priests in Luthers time were uneducated....lol
It's true.
This is ridiculous as neither of these guys know Catholic teachings, yet strawman Catholic beliefs.
Exodus 20:4-6
@@roses993 Thanks for a random verse
He just refuted his own reason that one should ask others to pray for him.
The heresy that the blood and body are separated and do not contain all of the body, blood ,soul and divinity is what Mathew is promoting in his lack of knowledge of the lords supper.
Working with God he thinks is not scriptural? This belief of Luther to sin boadly will lead many to destruction.
He can not explain the difference between the Lutheran and Catholic understanding of the real presence.
Because you wanted to follow a man?
The one who follows a supposedly infallible magisterium of men unconditionally is you
Catholics LITERALLY submit to and follow a man.
@@christianlight8511 @christianlight8511 lol you are literally following a man named Denomination that teaches the concept of Luther. Like Muslims, Luther has to claim Christ failed to maintain his Church and Luther has to save Christianity. Then the floodgates opened with every man creating their Denomination in their own images.
@@dan_m7774 Do you, or do you not, submit to and follow the pope, who is a man?
@@christianlight8511 The Pope like the Apostles have a teaching authority from Christ. Do you submit to the teachings of Paul?
Do you follow the personal opinion of scripture your pastor has, or do you follow the personal opinion of a pastor in another denomination as God Spoken?
Which Denomination is the one truth, one teaching? Let me know so we can inform all the others they are teaching nothing but a Pastors opinion of scripture.
Right, he wants you think that he never heard about the ten commandments before. Sorry but not buying it. The Catechism of the Catholic Church has about two hundred pages teaching on it. Chapter two, go look it up.
How many cradle Catholics do you think have actually read the Catechism?
Yes, well, that is a good point, but the same thing happens to us Lutherans when we are accused of being antinomian, when a great part of the Small and Large Catechisms are dedicated to the exposition of the Commandments.
@@zacdredge3859 it is not a requirement, it is a resource. How many Protestants claim to explain Catholic teachings without ever reading the Catechism?
Lutheran Church is never mentioned in Scripture
Well technically the moniker “catholic church” is not mentioned in Scripture either. And in defense of the Lutherans, they were initially given that label by the papists.
To eat unworthy in Mortal sin brings destruction upon you. Matthew needs to learn scripture better.
So you now follow Luther instead of Jesus?
