There is a difference in price between devils and what they offer. The Ghost Devil was not going to fight unless it got a sacrifice worth putting its own life on the line for. Also, Aki only gets a bit of his flesh eaten so if you compare his “Kon” to that girls Snake, they are pretty similar.

The anime is doing a damn well job of starting to make Makima look kinda scary asf with her facial expressions, I've read the manga and she never looks this unsettling, especially at 14:14
With 3 eps left, so far I'm really glad anime onlys are going through the same reactions that manga readers went through. I can't wait for the rest of the arcs that are coming and hope you guys can stay spoiler free as long as possible cause the reactions from the twist and turns from this series will be pure content.

Kobeni coming off as more annoying in the anime is one of those points a choice in direction influences the outcome a lot. Her panicking in the hotel was there in the source material, but if you have one or two panels with a nervous face and twitching it's up to interpretation whether to adapt it as as 2 or 10 seconds of nervous noises, which gives an entirely different first impression of her in the anime.
True I feel like most reactors doesen't notice that their might be something more to her personality then what they have seen, they just judge her so quick.
Yes this is literally our job. Give our opinions and thoughts on characters we meet based on what we know. We didn’t judge her “too quick” we judged her based on what we knew about her. And we would have given our opinions on her as she developed and changed as a character.

I'm not even a Manga reader, I just pay attention. Himeno saying "kobeni's got moves, but she's pretty timid" and kobeni keeping her devil contract a secret were enough to enhance her importance later on in the show. You guys choosing to pile on hate on Kobeni because some Manga readers pissed you off is pretty childish and try looking at things from a characters perspective.

Y'all forgetting the subtitles in the beginning, reminds me after intermission of a Russian opera, I was watching the actors intensely until realizing I had no idea what they were saying, and went back to reading the subtitles above the stage.
Nah, I genuinly liked Kobeni from moment one. I hadn't said anything about Kobeni to my girlfriend, and when I introduced her to the manga she also loved Kobeni immediately. I even had to be reminded on my second reread that this moment even happened. It's the whole tone of CSM that makes a character like this enjoyable to me, even without her secretly being John Wick ya know. Different standards than when a character like this appears in demon slayer or Naruto or some shit. But hey, that's me and my girlfriend, I am sure manga readers started loving her at different moments.
I do think this reaction from manga readers was inevitable. Like, I also understand why anime only's would clap back. But Kobeni is the kind of character that everybody almost unanimously loved before the anime came out (also because of memes admittedly). And now ya got Kobeni hate squads out there. That shit kinda stings. Talking about Kobeni used to be all good vibes, and that just changed all of a sudden. I understand both perspectives. But just as a bit of clarification.

Yeah tbh I'm pretty surprised at some of the "hate" towards Kobeni. I've been reading CSM since chapter 1 and always loved Kobeni, she's hilarious, and I think the manga readers in general always felt the same, every time she showed up there was always something funny/great going on.

It’s so annoying, I actually just got in a huge argument with someone who spoiled on twitter below someone’s anime opinion and their argument was most people don’t read comments and everyone else is a manga reader. I was so pissed, no wonder big streamers and stuff don’t tell people what anime they are watching for fear of being spoiled

this comment is only about the released anime episodes and not any spoilers, if that wasn't obvious:
calling it a redemption for Kobeni still feels kinda goofy, all she did was be the only one with a realistic human reaction to everything that happened with the Eternity Devil, and we were told immediately that she's really strong, she just has weak nerves and is only a Devil Hunter because her parents forced her to either take that job or be a sex worker so she can get her eight sisters to college, but not herself.
It fits with everything Himeno and the man with the scar kept repeating at the graves, that to truly survive as a Devil Hunter you need to be insane, but she's a normal person.
People that talked about her "becoming stronger in the future" (like she wasn't already) are spoiling and being dicks, I wasn't aware of that because that was never the real problem, the problem was reactors calling her annoying and useless for unfair or straight up wrong reasons.
So if anything this is more of a redemption for them than the characters lol
She was annoying (whined for two eps straight), she was useless (did nothing but try and kill the main boy)
Based on what we were shown, Kobeni sucked. There was no “unfair or wrong reasons” people disliked her. People disliked her based on the information they had at their disposal.

Fear is natural reaction of human, if somebody isn't scared of anything then is crazy or stupid. Only people that weren't scared in Eternity hotel were Denji, Aki and probably Power, even Himeno broke the moment Aki took knife from Kobeni saving Denji.

It's a shame that manga readers (and fans in most fandoms) have no concept of what a soft-spoiler is. Just because you're not outright sharing spoilers of future events doesn't mean you're not spoiling someone by setting their expectations and ruining surprises.

Not sure how much Makima knew this specific attack was going to happen, but remember when they had just gotten out of the hotel, Himeno was talking to Aki about how Makima, who usually travels all over the place, was staying in Tokyo lately, and they thought it was because of Denji? I think she definitely knew that her presence there was keeping peeps away.
On another note, she did know every single name of the dudes who attacked - super conveniently using them when sacrificing the inmates... so who knows.... she either knew exactly what was going to happen and simply wanted to test everyone out - keeping only the stronger ones... or at the very least she knew about that organization's existence and had info on them.
Honestly from makima smile when the guy said she would take over I don't doubt she was the person that might have made the assault possible somehow

Kobeni is good *because* she freaks out all the time xD It's cool that she's strong (but we knew that already, Himeno tells us that she is although it is cooler to see it ourselves), but what makes Kobeni a good character is the way she handles (or fails to handle) situations psychologically, not that she's very strong when she happens to be calm (which is almost never anyway). The fact that Kobeni's life (and as an extension Kobeni herself) is a complete tragedy is the funny part ^^
Man I feel you with the spoiler. I had gotten spoiled ONE single thing out of this plot, deep in the manga and was one of the worst ones. Now I'm out of spoiler cause I'm reading the manga immediately after release, but that one really ruined it.

A little non-spoiler explanation of devil contracts! Much of this is implied, rather than said explicitly, so I figured I’d clarify some stuff! Not all devil contracts are the same, they almost always change depending on the person and are usually made to maximize the devil’s benefit (devil’s love human suffering, so contracts that cause the user pain or allow the user to cause others pain are common). What can be used in a devil contract is anything that belongs to the user, such as their life span, body, objects they own (this includes subordinates and children), or tasks they can complete. Non-devil hunters are prohibited from making contracts with devils, as a result, civilian contracts tend to have lighter clauses with the same devastating effects, they also tend to have more loopholes (like zombie devil in the first episode).

I have friends who have never read the manga, before this episode they thought I was crazy when I said Kobeni would get good. But now they like her but they do not think she is a great character. The issue lies in the conflict between anime only and manga readers. Manga readers want to defend characters based on pre existing knowledge and will go to extreme lengths to prove a point. Anime onlys are more impatient and will judge characters immediately and will not allow them to have growth because they are stuck in a box of either useful or useless. I think there should be a discussion between reactors who hate Kobeni and Kobeni stans to have common ground.
One thing I noticed about these "manga readers" in any popular series is that tgey're so eager to post/reply spoilers or hints. And when you ask them regarding the manga, they don't know jack shit!

Katana Man was related to the Yakuza boss Denji worked with. Makima knew of the Yakuza because of showing up to kill the Zombie Devil in the first episode. Not a stretch to think she would have a list of the Yakuza member names and pictures and recognize her assassins.
Everyone forgets Himeno's assessment of Kobeni and Arai - Kobeni is talented but lacks conviction, Arai is the opposite.

In a AH Brandon comment I gave one major spoiler for S3+ maybe as early as S2 and only because all the context making it notable can only be known in hindsight. No foreshadow at all exists that I am aware of so no actual chance to spoil until you know.
I am doing my best to insure that any slip I leave I remove anything identifiable about it so it can only be hindsight spoiled but in the moment not so. For others to believe that is impossible is them fooling themselves.

Yeah I've read the manga through to a certain part (way after the anime obviously) but there are some manga readers that get hard ons when they spoil stuff. I for one don't understand it cause what do you gain from it? All they're doing is legit ruining the surprise for everybody else. There are some comments on here talking about oh avoid the internet der der. Im like you shouldnt have to do that if people didnt suck so damn bad. I would have loved to see you guy's reaction to Kobeni popping off without them spoiling it. Cause it's a complete 180 from her freak out in the hotel. Im so bumbed that this episode was ruined for me. The same day ep 8 came out a biker thought I would make a good target so I ended up in the icu. When i regained consciousness ep 9 was already out. Almost a week later i was discharged and watched the episodes and they were ruined for me cause my half dead brain watched ep 9 before ep 8 and was confused as shit. This entire predicament was a giant pain in my ass.

As a manga reader its great watching raw honest reactions from people who wouldn't otherwise enjoy the material. I wish I could answer the questions you guys have (or even hint) but obviously that ruins the point of these videos lol.

Doubt it actually means anything at this point because y'all have received so much shit from this insane vocal minority of manga elitists but as a manga reader myself I hope once you've had some time to separate from these idiots after the end of the season, you maybe change your mind on doing manga content (Yes I'm coming to this after ruff spoke on the Volume One community live)
First of all, I really enjoy the dynamic and setup you guys have with manga bros and think it would translate so well to content like the CSM manga. Also, I dunno if I'm not really looking hard enough but for as popular as CSM is as a series I struggle to find a wealth of enjoyable manga related content.
Ultimately, I can't change the effect these people have had on your enjoyment of the series, and it'll be understandable if you pull out of making CSM content post season 1, but even if it's just a one off episode about all of your reactions to the entirety of the manga if you do catch up I'd still love to hear your thoughts, and I hope that an expression of appreciation like this goes a little way towards showing that there are parts of the csm manga community that would greatly welcome and enjoy any further content.
It definitely means a ton. We know it’s a vocal minority. That’s why we double down and mess with them because they have a mental breakdown and honestly it’s funny to watch people get that pressed over some colorless comic books 😭
@@sortastupid what makes it worse is I like kobeni a lot myself, and while I obviously wasn't looking forward to the episode 6/7/8 takes on Kobeni, knowing that episode 9 would follow it up just made it kinda funny and more fun for when any kinda character dev/change occured

I really hope they do one too. I absolutely love the manga, and these guys be funny as fuck. What they did with episode 10 was amazing. But, I shall not expect it. I must say, I never would've guessed Kobeni fans to be the most toxic of us. They were always so chill.

Yeaaaaaaaaa... I was hyped for this episode knowing what was coming but I figured the Kobeni Clusterfuck that happened because of EP 6 was going to sour it.
Amazing how some assholes have to ruin a good character moment for everyone else because they cant naturally let it unfold for new people as it did for them.
