Gouache is a wonderful medium and you created a lovely painting. For those who have never used gouache, you can water it down so much that it works just like watercolour, but I'd encourage people to be brave and use it as an opaque medium (as in this video), to almost give you something between watercolour and oil paints. The beauty (and 'danger') of gouache is that you can re-wet it on the paper. This is something that I love to do with my style because you can really blend the paint to make soft transitions, even after the paint has dried.
This gouache demo has come at the right time, just as I am about to try my hand at this medium. Being a watercolourist and wanting to try something new, your guidance has given courage… 🙏🎨🙏
Just did my first gouache today, so this comes at just the right time as I reflect on the work and process I used. All good points about drying, colours and values. Thankyou!
@@MalcolmDewey When you started putting that yellow on top of the water, with all that blue around I was like, this is all going green! But gouache! The opaque white makes a complementary glaze a completely different thing to what it would have been in watercolour.
