I am new to Fuji ecosystem,i just sold my sony a6000 and moved to Fuji xt4. I was struggling to decide what lens should i get for starter and was watching videos and videos, reviews over reviews untill you, with this video, your honest opinion made me buy this tamron instantly. Thank you so much for the help,i finally closed all these opened tabs :)
I’m so pumped for you!🙌🏾😃 it’s an awesome lens and before I got it, all the videos I had watched made it seems like it’s just a “decent lens for the price”. Only when I got it and tried it was it was Lou glad that I did!💃
Just discovered your channel - and pretty much watched every single video 😆 I'm also in the Pretoria/Joburg area, so seeing this type of content is truly inspiring - keep it up man.
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🎉🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it. Working to grow the channel and get more in depth and hands on reviews as time goes. Do you shoot?
@@lostcreators Yes I do, but I mainly do it as a hobby - been shooting for 5 years now. I do a lot of free shoots for family and friends and then I take photos for my church. I'd like to start charging people for my work but I don't know how to go about that... I also want to change my gear from Canon to Fuji (been wanting a Fuji system for the longest time now) and the X-T5 with the 16-80mm sounds pretty sweet, I just need to get a 35 or the 33mm 1.4 as well 💰💰💰
I have the 18-55 and I really need the extra reach for events photography. I also shoot low light landscapes. So, the 17-70 mm seems the best choice due to extra reach and VC.
I agree, the 16-55 f2.8 is still pricy and has no OIS, the 16-80mm f4 has OIS, more reach but the F4 will be limiting. The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 is perfect for both. I use it religiously for events especially if I want reach but still have limited space, it’s wide enough and has great reach and the VC comes in handy for video as well.
Nice to see you again, very good video and logical analysis. I have the XF16-80 (great lens) and I’m OK with the constant f/4 aperture, because the way and the when I use it is mostly at f/8 or f/11, keep in mind that I’m just doing photography for enjoyment and not as a means of income, you on the other hand are a professional so I completely understand your reasoning and decision. Having said that, since I got the XF33 f/1.4 I zoom more with my feet (yes, I know it’s a cliche😂) and that lens (16-80) stays in my camera bag most of the time. On a separate note, I didn’t get the X-T5 yet, I’m waiting for a review by a “real photographer” before I pull the trigger (that’s cowboy talk😂) and not someone just reading specification sheets or shooting brick walls. Only a few more days for Qatar 2022. Be well and stay safe.
🤣🤣🤣Yes, I am also waiting to test the XT5. It's taking a little longer for the copies to ship to South Africa but If you are using an XT4, the XT5 may be a bit of a tough sell because of the missing battery grip and also, the 26 mega pixel is still plenty. For me as an XT3 user, I am looking to change to the XT4 or newer for the battery life. The old batteries are troublesome. It's true, not all types of photography need the wider aperture. But you have a super lens with the 33mm F1.4, it's super sharp and clean, I'm so jealous!😭. I am getting a loaned copy of the 17-70mm f2.8 in the next two days, I can't wait to try it out!
@@lostcreators As you mentioned, the 26 megapixels on my X-T4 are more than enough (especially for what I do), but I guess that the 40 MP sensor is good to have if you need to crop the image, the battery grip I really don’t need, I go out shooting all day and when I get home I still have about 50% battery, and most of my photos are taken in landscape orientation, so I really don’t need the grip for comfort. My main reason for getting the X-T5 (if I do) is for a faster and more accurate auto focusing system. So I’ll just wait for “credible” reviews and I’ll take it from there.
Wow that 18-555mm must be a heavy beast 😅 I have been looking at the Tamron, currently have the 16-80mm on a XT3 but that isn't on Fuji list of lenses for the XT5 which I am also looking at.
1:49 IBIS stands for In Body Image Stabilization. IBIS is found on camera bodies, there is OIS in fuji lenses. Just wanted to point it out, since it could be misleading for less tech savvy folks. Great vid regardless!
Hey Dan (awesome name by the way), you’re spot on, I completely missed it in the table showing the different features of the lenses. Thank you for the heads and thank you so much for tuning in! 🙌🏾🙏🏾
I've just watched a few of your videos and you have inspired me to hit the 'subscribe' button.👍👍. For an all-around lens I'm using the Fujinon 18-120mm f:4 PZ lens. Would love for you to have a look at this lens. It's had mixed reviews but I find the results that I get very good. No OS but my cameras both have IBIS, so that's not an issue. Are you on Flickr?
🤩🙏🏾Thank you so much! I just love photography and I love sharing what I learn and the mistakes I make while learning from other photographers. Welcome and I hope you enjoy the videos that are coming!🙌🏾
Do you take weight into consideration? Reason I ask is because I rented the 100-400mm for a day and won't buy it simply because it's just too heavy. Of the lenses you discuss, which is the lightest in weight?
Between the Tamron 17-70 and the Fuji 16-55 f2.8 the Fuji is definitely heavier and very noticeable compared to the Tamron. The Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 even feels better on the camera in terms of weight distribution. You can shoot and carry it a lot longer
Hey Troy🙌🏾 I traded it for the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 and after a year I can say it was a good decision. I still use my friend’s 16-55 f2.8 at times but I would pair it with my XH1 or use on-camera flash sooner than I would like but it still works fine. For portraits and studio it works fine but for events, it used to frustrate me a lot.
I think depending on what features matter more to our use cases determines which one is better. the 16-55f2.8 might be sharper, but for me, shooting events, on XT3’s that don’t have IBIS, the overall user experience, lighter, longer reach and great image quality makes the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 “better”
@stinacstinac on-camera flash power. If you shoot at higher shutter speeds, you loose a lot of power and in large room, it becomes a serious challenge and forces you to set up OCF. In events where you want to move quickly through the room setting up on OCF is not ideal. So shooting at lower shutter speed allows you to get more power from the on-camera flash.
I think it’s not that simple, Fujifilm lenses are some of the highest quality out there, definitely more “solid” external build but build quality for me also refers to scratch resistance, smudging, the feel and weight distribution when it’s on your camera and how well it does outdoors in different conditions. It ticks all the right boxes and I would say it has great build quality.

Thanks for the info, about to buy an X-S10, looks like im getting the 17-70 with it!
That’s going to be an awesome setup!🔥
Same here mate!
But actually…I’ve been also thinking about the Fuji 16-80 man

🤣The 16-55mm f2.8 is quite bulky and heavy and to be honest, the absence of OIS in it makes it a tough sell. The 18-55 f2.8 -4.0 kit lens is amazing!

Using the XT3, how do you compensate with OIS using the 16-55mm?
Hey Troy🙌🏾 I traded it for the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 and after a year I can say it was a good decision. Great job!
Thank you T to the M to the I.D.D! I appreciate it truly!🙏

Good lens but not better then the 16-55 f/2.8 (Fujinon is so much sharper.)

Build quality is bad so it’s no alternative .
