Lovely video!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!🙌🏾🙏🏾 I will keep trying to improve the videos and hopefully provide more value.
Nice video I shoot with X-T3 and X100 VI (and a colleague uses an X-T5) I was in no rush to upgrade from the X-T3 and it is definitely not about image quality, although the 40MP sensor is better, the 5th gen processor is more important unless you are really going to crop away lots of the frame. Having said that, the X100VI is almost a perfect camera for me, and i could do all my professional work on it if i needed to. I'm not in the market for a new camera, however if fuji released an "X-T4 Pro" (X-T4 but with 5th gen processor, same combo as X-S20) , that would be an almost ideal camera for me.
I agree, I’m keen to try out the XT5, less so for the sensor size but simply because coming from the XT3, I think I’d just enjoy using it more. The X100 VI produces stunning images. But for me I need to be able to change lenses. Hoping the X-Pro 4 gives us the “perfect” camera.
@@lostcreators my colleague loves the X-T5, he upgraded from the X-T3. He shoots a lot of wildlife (not professionally) and he says the XT-5 saved his back. He was shooting with the X-T3 with 100-400, and a second camera with the 18-135. He now shoots almost exclusively with the X-T5 and Tamron 18-300 (even on a trip to Africa for a safari) as he can crop digitally, still getting a similar MP photo and he says misses less photos because it is a much lighter setup. Optically not as good, but more than good enough for social media and 20" prints
What recipe you use for these shots?
It’s Lightroom presets that I developed from the default presets in Light room. Just tweaked them to fit the skin tones. I’ll actually link presets in this video in the next couple of days.
love my 17-70 2.8 👏🏻
It’s a true underrated workhorse! 🙌🏾
I own this lens for 2 weeks and can’t say better. Sharp, light, affordable, well built, great coverage for one lens, good performer. Sold the 16-80f4 and do not regret it at this point. Only a side note that it may be important for some and I do not see much info about it: my XT-5 gets like from 2 to 4 seconds delay to became ready when power on with this lens than other Fujifilm lenses. Thought it was a copy issue, went back to the store. Tested 3 more lenses and did the same. Tested 2 more separate XT-5 and did the same. Concluded that is some sort of lens test when power on, I can hear motors inside or the VR. Not a deal breaker but for street photography sometimes is annoying to have to wait more a few seconds and loose a shot or to try to be always ahead remembering that the camera needs between like between 2 to 4 seconds. It’s not exactly always the same amount of time, cannot figure out what influences that too. I have the last firmware 2.0.1. I would buy this lens again knowing this. As I’ve said it’s not a deal breaker to me. I use the lens for events and travel photography, I can manage the delay on this type of situation, for street photography sometimes I rather use primes so I thought is just a fact to mention that may be important to someone. Nice review BTW.
That’s interesting, to be honest, it’s something I easily overlook because I shoot mostly under controlled or less dynamic environments. I have not seen any reviews or videos covering this and it might be worth testing it out. For street photography, I agree it’s not a dealbreaker but it’s also the split difference between getting a shot and missing a moment, it’s a really valid point and maybe just a case of third party vs native. I think I’m generally slow because sometimes I miss moments because the camera is back in my sling bag 🙈. For events, this lens served me really well. I went from two camera bodies and 4-5 lenses to just using this lens and a 56mm 1.2 and the 50-140 if the venue was a bit bigger.
@ thank you very much for your feedback. That does not changes how amazing this lens stills to me.
Excellent video 😮!
🙌🏾🙏🏾 Thank you much, I truly appreciate it! I’m passionate about getting value for money when it comes to gear😅 The camera market is just crazy at the moment.
Totally agree with everything you've said in this video. I've loved the Tamron since owning it over the past year. Fantastic for video as you said and it can also be used for such a wide variety of genres (landscape, portraits, events sport up close, travel products and probably a couple more). Superb lens!
Exactly! 🙌🏾 I remember when it came out, I already owned the 16-55mm f2.8 and all the reviews downplayed its true quality saying it’s a great lens for ‘travel’ and personal stuff. And for a while I believed it was a kinda okay lens. If I hadn’t taken the chance and tried it myself, I would have missed out on a really great lens that actually improved my workflow for events because it could switch between stills and smooth video without having to switch lenses.
@lostcreators yep you're absolutely right. For some reason it hasn't had the same hype for Fuji as it did when it was released for Sony, which I can't understand because it's regarded as one of the best APSC lenses of all time. The fact that you have a 25-105 FF equivalent at F2.8 as well as great image quality and autofocus is amazing! On top of that, you can use it as a similar lens to the 35-150 from Tamron if you use the 1.29 crop mode for video. It is what I regularly do when I make short films involving sports/action and wildlife in combination with the Fuji 70-300. "Pixel Village" called it a remarkable lens and it most definitely is, given what it's capable of.
The colour is superb fuji ofcourse.
I agree 💯 🙌🏾
Congrats man! 👍😊 Very nice video. I think your choice was a great one, and I'm not just talking about the lens 😄 Speaking about Tamron, the VC is a huge advantage if you don't have IBIS. A great zoom lens in a good price range 👌
🤣 Thank you so much! It’s a bargain lens and the price has dropped slightly.
I really want a 35mm - 100mm F/2.8 for Fuji I have the wide covered, it is the mid-telephoto passed 56mm I am lacking. (as far as wider apertures) The use case is when i am photographing a show from the back of a theatre, 35mm covers the entire stage where 100mm allows to isolate individual people. The fuji 50mm to 140 is not wide enough and is big heavy and expensive meaning i have to carry 2 cameras and two lenses requiring someone else to work with me. I just don't think that 70mm is long enough, I may rent it before the next job, to test it
Yeah I hear you. I think in terms of focal length, it may not be the best option at the tele end for your needs but for events where you move around and want to switch between group photos, single portraits and pan to catch candid moments across the room with reliable speed and AF, this lens is a real bargain. I will happily recommend it to anyone.
End of 2024 and I still use the X T1 might get the X T6 when it comes out but the only real thing that would be useful to me is the IBIS as I am old and do have to shoot at 1/500 ISO 400 f5.6 to f11.0 with the 16mm 23mm 35mm lenses to stop camera shake on occasion I shoot wide open but only to maximize separation of the subject. Largest prints are 8×10 most are cropped to 6x6 that's just my favorite format call me crazy.
Watched 3 Xh1 videos of yours. I just subscribed.
I appreciate the love! 🙌🏾 I’m truly a fan of this camera and still trust it just as much in 2024
Great video
🙌🏾thank you so much, I truly appreciate it 🙏🏾
In a moment of weakness-maybe after seeing your video-I bought the XH1 from KEH at $733 and fell in love with it. Yes, it’s big and heavy but also built for a hard life. I paid $1650 for my XT5 so I did not "need" the XH1. strangely, I’ve thought about selling the XT5 and keeping the XH1, because it is just a fantastic camera and I never quite fell in love with the XT5 the way I did with the XH1. So, if you don’t need the latest gear, this camera still ticks all the boxes.
Since I no longer have the extra dough to get something jazzier, I feel lucky to have this camera. The quick and dirty stuff is always perfect when I put my 16-50 3.5 on it. (I have the 16mm 14., the 90mm 2.0, the 23mm 2.0, and about 15 vintage lenses) I always get sharp pics with no blur from shooting at 1/60 or 1/30th using the 16-50 3.5. It's center sharp ness is perfect. Having a combo IBIS and OIS in the camera and lens gives me a lot of confidence. The quiet shutter and light touch is something you simply get used to if it's your only camera. Funny, I never use the touch screen, but some users out there have shown me reasons to use it for better Auto focus. I bought the camera with battery grip for 700 in person. One thing has gone wrong.. one of the card slots doesn't hold onto the card anymore. Never snaps in. Different cards, same problem. That's pretty spooky, as all it takes is one more slot, and well, I don't have the dough to repair it. I also have an X-M1, but you can forget how to use it after a couple years with another body. And it's not a good video camera..maybe fine if you go manual focus. In any case, go get one of the Minolta 50, 55, 58 mm 1.4 lenses.. even the 1.7. (that's the best lens deal on ebay) They'll hook you fast. I like to set my white balance to auto, then move past the white balance to the dot screen, and move my dot four points to the right and four points down. This warms up all my shots, and I keep it there 100 percent of the time. Try it.I still have things to learn about the X-H1. Too bad i walk with a cane, and a back pillow for lousy cafe chairs in a tote bag. It really has cut down my desire to take the camera out.
Still a big issue a year later.
i sold mine 2 years ago which I regretted that so now Im buying a gently used second hand one.
I have the same issue with the autofocus on my X-T5 and mysterious green box. My patience is running out.
I don’t know what they did to the new cameras like the Xs20 and X M5, but the AF is so much more reliable. Reliable AF should really not be a 2024 tech challenge for any manufacturer. Fuji need to get over this line once and for all.
Silly thing I learned about the XH1. I put the camera down and didn’t pick it up for a while. The battery died. The LCD screen on the top plate stays on all the time. I can’t figure out how to turn it off. Solution-take the battery out of the camera when not in use. I like IBIS. When not doing video clips I don’t need it. I short in the day at ss of 1/250-1/500. Still, a nice feature to have. Your advice about buying used is very sound. A very important question to ask yourself is what features do you need. The camera manufacturers are in the business of selling us new gear. Right now, there aren’t new innovations so the manufacturers are producing cameras with incremental improvements. We are at the point of diminishing marginal returns. With new cameras we are paying more for less improvements. Cameras that produced good images five or ten years ago continue to produce good images now. They are less expensive than new cameras. The truth is cameras have features we don’t use but we pay for them anyway. Get what you need. Learn how to get the best images out of your camera and be happy with them. Two mantras I have about my gear are use the right tool for the right job and good enough is good enough. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I’m a hobbyist street photographer. I don’t need the latest and greatest gear. I have a lot of Fuji bodies and lenses. I appreciated your XH1 video. I bought it this year by accident. I wasn’t shopping for a XH1. I found a photographer who was leaving Fuji so for $600 I bought the body and three lenses worth $600. I bought the battery grip for $50. It is a chunky body but I like the output. I do some video clips but mostly stills. I love the fujicrons. The 23/2 and 35/2 are my go to lenses. Also use the 50/2. These lenses are small nd lightweight. That is the way I like by lenses and bodies. Then there is the kit lens. Very useful range of focal lengths plus it has OIS. The XT4 is my newest body. I don’t need the 40MP files. I love the Acros film simulation with the red filter. Velvia for color. For what I do old cameras are OK. I use the right tool for the right job. For me, good enough is good enough. I like the Fuji dials and nobs. I like the film sims. I like the size and weight of my gear. I don’t need full frame. I’m not buying any new Fuji gear anytime soon but appreciate what I have. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
You shared some wonderful images. Great advice. I’ve decided on an XH-1 with the 27 and 75 Viltrox lenses. I only shoot stills, I have no interest in video.
I did all the possible firmware updates on my XT5 without any improvement, in the end I sold it and promised myself Fuji NEVER AGAIN
Just another reason I may sell all Fuji and go back to Nikon FF. I like Fuji glass, but AF always below others standards WTF Fuji
I think I have my first camera
Which Fuji camera do you recommend for video production? I had considered the XH1 as a viable option, but after reviewing this video, I am having second thoughts about its suitability for my needs. I would appreciate your expert opinion on this matter.
Unnecessary annoying music. American?
Hey there, South African. Sorry about the music, it’s not meant to be distracting
@@lostcreators I like the music. Most UA-cam content providers use background music. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I’ve just been using the XT5 for a couple of weeks and got the same issue! The camera is not fit for purpose and I’m looking to return it! Poor show Fuji!
I use the XH-1 in 2024 with a nikon 200-500 5,6 and Fringer Adapter for wildlife and it love it! Furthermore, I own some good fuji glass as well as some nice vintage lenses - with them, IBIS helps a lot. Without the grip, the battery life is unacceptable in my opinion. Other than that, if you can tolerate that AF and tracking lack precision and tempo to nowadays standards and that the cam lacks 60fps@4k, in terms of quality-price-ration you imho still get a fantastic bang for the buck. It's well built and get's the job done.
Great camera. I have earned over $200,000 in the past 3 years with my X-H1's. Coupled with my 10-24mm zoom or my 56mm f1.2 these X-H1's produce superb images.
If not for the crappy battery and this constant error flickering on my screen that batteries are draining too fast, i would have sticked to xt3.
Bought a XH1 in February/24 for a good Brice. It is an OK camera. I do street photography and this body isn’t the one I choose to carry all day. It is too big and heavy. I prefer the XT30 or XS10. I like the IBIS. The shutter is very sensitive and requires practice using it with the 1/2 press to focus. Haven’t done any video with the XH1 but it is probably OK. The focus for photography is OK. Most of the time it locks on accurately quickly. I love the three way screen. It tilts up & down. Turn the body to portrait and the screen pulls out in the portrait mode. Very nice. This body hasn’t experienced the price inflation many Fuji have. It is a solid camera and worth looking at. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Just bought a new XT5 and a 33 1.4. Extremely disappointed. Your results mirror mine.
I just got an xt3. It would cost me about $155 to trade it in for an xh1. Is it worth it? I’m new to photography and I’m interested in eventually videos
Which software do you use to edit the photos? I'm deciding which system to go mirrorless and one of my options is Fuji, but the raws appears very soft and lacking fine detail when i put them in Lightroom. In comparison Canon and Sony seems to have more fine detail.
Xh1 homie 😁
You know it!!!!!😁🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
as a casual photographer, i absolutely LOVE the aperture ring but id love both lenses
Thanks man. Just got one. Lets gerrriiiiiiittttt
Weight doesn't matter to me...I don't think it's that demanding to work with this lens two hours a day once every few days...I am planning to buy one soon..thank you for this great review!
I totally agree, you don't need the latest expensive innovation to make good videos, you rather need the right idea. 👍
I'm looking up for info on this camera, as a guy wants to sell me his. GREAT exposure, bro!! Very matter of fact with meat & potatoes facts! Keep on sharing!!
Is this lens good for manual focusing for video? Does it focus hunt while zooming in/out? I saw reviews and during auto-focus the focus hunting was bad.
I agree, this lens is pretty much perfect in so many ways but one of the few downsides is the focus ring, the focus pull is short but also hard to comprehend. Even with focus assist, I find that I have difficulty tracking slow moving subjects manually when recording videos. If recording video manually is a massive selling point for you, I would rather opt for the 16-55 f2.8 or the 16-80 f4. This lens is optically brilliant, great OIS, feels nice on the camera and has good AF even on the XH1…but the focus ring is a bit of a let down.
Very honest advice.
Does it still has the exposure change issue when zooming in/out?
I don’t know if it’s a general issue with the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 but using it with the XT3 and XH1, I only noticed the focus change when zooming in and out but exposure seems to remain constant.
I bought XH1 when the XH2 came out for cheap. I love this camera. When one of my friends saw the raw photos he bought one as well. I noticed the ebay prices have risen since people are finding out how good this little camera is.
Yeah, like clockwork, every time fujifilm announces a new camera or firmware or lens, the search for older models goes up because logically as human beings we want to understand how good the new product is compared to the older one. The search for XT3’s shot up around the time Fujifilm released the XT5 and since people kinda realised how good and still relevant the features and sensor was, the XT3’s started selling as well. By default, when you go after a bigger audience, you become a generalist and fujifilm cameras lately feel like generalist cameras. The older models (while also imperfect) just feel more targeted and just a bit more unique.
I bought the ,X-T30 II, and after a few months, I got the ,X-H 1. The 30 II, Is now my backup and , H-1 my main.
The XH-1 is such a workhorse! It’s getting a little slow for me for video but for stills it’s still my go-to for everything! 🙌🏾
Thank you for this video. I purchased an XH1 last week for the IBIS. I am a stills shooter and do some video clips. I have ordered the battery grip in excellent condition from MPB. Most videos about this body are five years old. The question I have is about FW updates. I understand the FW updates gave us new features and improved performance. The XH1 with the FW updates is a different animal than the body at release. Might you do a video about this? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Oh I’d definitely love to touch on the firmware. I’m always excited to chat about the XH1 but just wanted more content and more samples to share so soon enough, (end of Feb) I’ll share a video. I’m so stoked that the XH1 has such an awesome community!😃🙌🏾
The focusing motor is stabilized by electro-magnets. When powered off, they disengage, thus the clanking noise and movement.
🙏🏾 Thank you for this. It’s always unnerving hearing the sound 😅 even though I was told by the repeatedly that it’s normal.
Thank you for sharing! You definitely pulled the trigged for me, i shoot only stills for events and come from x-t10 that is a wonderful camera but a bit too much in the not professional side. Yet to choose what lenses to pick, i like primes but for paied work i think is better an all arounder. 🤙
For stills the XH1 is such a workhorse and the ergonomics make it easy to handle for long hours. It’s still my main! 🙌🏾
My first impression went your way, but there are so many settings that I had never encountered on other brands (not that I know many). The "continuous" focus setting are something else (plus the ability to set your own). The shooting priority that can be set to "when achieving focus only". The power selection (economy, normal and boost). I cannot say that I have tried this myself to validate, but I know the choices in setup are there. My choice in this camera includes the amount of time it is bound to take me to explore its capabilities before I start to get bored. I think I'm good for a long time. But I hope you have sorted your camera problem already. But in the end, not one is perfect, and the choice is always difficult. I think it goes for pretty much everything in life. Maybe we need to learn how to love it, or not.
I forgot somethings. I read Sony used to claim that their increase in focus points increased focus accuracy and/or speed. I would chose 425 points. 117 is good when you want to speed up your focus point selection. Also, pre-focus might not be a bad idea to have it on when the special need is there.
This was a great and well thought out exposition of what really matters in photography as far as gear goes.
🙌🏾At the end of the day, photography is about expressing and creativity…fancier tools offer convenience but they can’t replace creativity or genuine love and interest in the process of photography.
@@lostcreators Couldn't agree more.
