I get at least 3 days out of it without having to charge it and the quickness of the processor. It is 10x faster than my desktop desktop. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for the content.
Premiere is slow as fuck. Adobe has still not learned how to use modern hardware properly. It means that basically 90 % of your hardware (and money) is not used as Premiere is not able to use it. Doesn’t make any sense to buy ie Mac Pro for Adobe software at all as you will get same performance from Mac mini from 2016.
I said this a lot and I'm gonna say it one last time : The M1 is amazing, ridiculous really. I can totally handle 4K, even 4K RAW, and I know people who could actually open 8K files... IF you use the Apple pro applications. That's what it's meant for. It's definitely the most powerful laptop of it's category, IF you use FCPX and Logic Pro X. It is NOT the laptop for you if you're not using Apple's softwares. Having said that, there is IMHO no better deal out there than the M1 and Apple software bundle for students if you're looking to go to college in cinema or get started professionally. DaVinci Resolve runs native on M1 and can open any Premiere Pro project. PP can arguably open more formats but DaVinci is most future-proof, and also the most complete - but most complex as well - piece of software in the industry right now. Oh and it's free!
Let's be realistic video editing is not just playing timeline, no chance to do professional work on this chip that you have a complex composition in layers and effects and more to meet the project schedule, especially that a strong GPU is required for such things. Preach!! Been using the m1 on my broke ass budget and its blown away all expectations, especially using divinci. Yes its not as "clean" as premiere, but it gets the job done! Free and amazing!

i did the task bar thing but with 20 apps including premier, audition, illustrator, steam, the epic store (which started an update at 500mbps), obs and more and my computer did it in 30 seconds. all things considered that's probably better than the m1. It just puts into perspective that the m1, especially with its 16gb ram limit isnt the best computer in the world like some people make it out to be. My pc is a r5 3600, 32gb ram, intel 660p and a 2060 super around the same price as a m1 mac book pro with 16gb of ram.

I hear ya Sara, Adobe Premiere has some really cool an innovative features.... it's a great application....when it works. It's been a constant bug fest for some time now. As a lifelong Mac & Adobe user, I gave up on Adobe Premiere a couple years ago. It was slow to a crawl, had constant bugs and became impossible for me to edit video in. I've had a much better experience working with Final Cut and I've been super impressed with Final Cut's performance on the M1 thus far. I've only dabbled in Resolve, but it looks awesome and I need to give it another shot. One thing that I really miss about using Premiere is the dynamic linking workflow between Adobe Premiere & Adobe Audition. There's nothing like having the ability to send audio from Premiere to Audition for cleanup work and sending those updated changes back to Premiere. Thanks for making these videos, all the best! 🍑
Thank you Sara! I agree. The MacBook Air with M1 is pretty fantastic. I was really disappointed when I found out that it did not support dual monitors, but after a lot of research and trying different adapters, I was able to get back to dual monitors.

I still haven’t got an M1 yet but the new iMacs are very tempting. I have the late 2020 iMac maxed out. It still has issues playing back 4K video in Resolve. Not to bad in Premiere though. Just switched from Premiere to Davinci because Premiere performed like sh*t and rendering took forever (like 2+ hours for a 15sec BRAW export) 🥴 I'm editing on a M1 MBP with 16Gb RAM btw ✌🏻 If you think about switching from Premiere to Davinci Resolve, just do it Davinci performs soo much better! 🥰
Everyone praises M1 hardware accelerated encoding speeds, yet noone seems to check the 2 other important factors - output file sizes and output perceived quality, and for a good reason it seems - I've read those 2 important aspects are pretty much crappy out of M1, in AVC slightly less so then HEVC... when compared to software encodes of X86 - getting nearly twice the output size or far higher output bitrates to describe scenes software encodes manage to deal with at the lower values for the same perceived quality, heck NVENC and VCE are also giving larger files but the perceived quality at same bitrates and quality thresholds is supposedly better, not to mntion QSV that also mnages to reduce output sizes... So yeah, if the output size and quality requires far higher bitrates for the vids to offer target perceived quality levels, then even great speeds of encodes is not worth it in my book...
Hey Sara, if I occasionally use Premiere for some FHD and light 4K video editing, do you think the M1 MacBook Pro is absolutely necessary, or could I go with the M1 MacBook Air instead? For light video editing, how much of an advantage does the MacBook Pro have over the Air? Thanks! (I’m considering possibly purchasing one of these fabulous computers in the near future)
The fans help out in the pro for sustained workflows so say you’re exporting a long 20 minute video in premiere or exporting a ton of proxies that’s where the fan would come in! Honestly for anyone who is doing video I’d say go with the fans with the MacBook Pro. But anything below that even photo editing the Air will be plenty !
@@Lt.Crackers360 If you only do light video editing, the MBA will be enough, there is no point paying $300 more really. It would be more beneficial to get the 16gb ram upgrade than to get the MBP. MBP only necessary if you plan to do video editing all day. If you do one video a week MBA is good enough.
@@super_hero2 Haha, thanks! I haven't made a purchase yet, but the MBA is probably the only thing my budget can buy!!! The 16gb ram upgrade is a good suggestion!

The rate of transition to Apple Silicon is crazy, all of my apps like MS office, Camtasia, FCP, Pixelmator, Slack, etc. gosh I got my mac just a few months ago and they're all native applications now! Shows what Apple is capable of and how compelled developers are to modify their apps.
Don’t make jokes with old macbook pros. Last year I did some film work in 4k for a film. I am talking about working with my 2011 macbook pro. This film got one of the biggest awards in the world. I have no faith in Adobe ever being the most stable or fastest. Been using their products since 1996 and I’ve been living in hope that “the next one will be better”. Sometimes this is true, it happened to Illustrator a while back, but now it’s back to being buggy. I edited some videos over the past year in Davinci Resolve and loved it. What’s keeping me with Adobe is my VFX workflow in After Effects (where’s multi core rendering?) But I am determined to learn Fusion for compositing so I can switch over to Davinci properly.
The M1 really makes me think to change to Mac, even as a Windows user. Maybe not yet but if the majority of the programs is updated for the M1. Regarding strange problems in Premiere: Since the 2020 version I'm not able anymore to export ca. 6.7K timelapses to H265, because Premiere tells me I don't have enough RAM. But if I use the 4 or 8K presets it's working. No Idea how to solve the problem, except using the 2019 version...
I've been editing on the lowest budget model of the mac mini (8GB & 256), and it literally blew away my 2018 fully loaded and $$$$ imac. I don't care about roseta stone, I just need products to work and get the job done. If its slower, no big deal.
How ignorant … There are things much more processor intensive then video editing like games development for example, when compiling your code in unity and making 3D graphics even the m1 can’t always keep up. Programmers, animators and more need powerful computers to, of you don't video edit it doesn't automatically mean your just doing excel
I mean you’d think that the 0.5% of people like the ones you mentioned that need tha utmost EXTREME processing power etc they’d know how powerful a computer they need 🤷🏻♂️videoediting and light gaming is the most use most of us standard users will ever reach - if we ever come close to that
@@ionklm basic video editing that the standard consumer does isn’t the most processor-intensive thing, it's when you get it to 4K that you need a powerful computer. Once edited a basic video on my iPhone 7 plus. The kind of video editing she talks about that's really difficult like with a7s3 footage, is only done by a small minority

Ok, thanks for the feedback! Awesome video by the way 👍👏
@@Lt.Crackers360 If you only do light video editing, the MBA will be enough, there is no point paying $300 more really.
Not an Apple user but when Apple produce these kind of product with this performance, yes I will give it a try ! It's no longer overprice or status
Switching from Premiere Pro to Final Cut Pro when I got my M1 Macbook Pro was a huuuuuge relief. I was so frustrated that even the newest, maxed out laptop was choppy and painful in Premiere, but you are right: even 4K a7s iii footage runs great in Final Cut! Looking forward to more improvements...and more of your videos. Sidenote: not sure if you are still looking for video shooting help, but I sent in some links when you asked on Instagram a couple of months ago. Would love to help out if you are still looking!! (I'm in Dallas)
Sara, great video on M1. Just bought a Mac mini and 24” monitor. the mini has lots of ports, and the LG Monitor has four(?) more for my SSD photos. Love the M!, just love it. Thanks for your video, you are a great blogger!!!

I don't know about y'all but it's the Van for me. 💜
I would gladly sacrifice export times (within reason) for a smooth editing experience.
The M1 watching you tell it that it has to open every app like: Tf they doing out there
Don’t make jokes with old macbook pros. Last year I did some film work in 4k for a film. I am talking about working with my 2011 macbook pro. This film got one of the biggest awards in the world. For all the people: don’t get inspired just in buttons, machines or new hardware, but focus on stories and talent.
Watched this video because my new 13 inch M1 MacBook Pro is arriving on Tuesday.
The number of specs she changes..............................................I love her!
Finalllyyyyyyyyy my wait for the video is finally over hahahh vvvvvvv excited
I love this channel, especially the apple products and reviews and such good tips everything.
I have no idea why people don't like bezels. I have 16 inch macbook and I already hate that it's so easy touch the screen. Thank you for this video, it was really interesting.
Greetings Sara.. _High Fives_
Apples new M1 Pro & M1 Max Chips releasing soon, this mean the current M1 Mac Minis for example drop in price?

Great video as always Sara!! I have a 2019 15" MBP maxed out and I want to upgrade to the M1 but the M1 is only in the 13" and Air right? Any word on if they will put the M1 in the new 16"?
I think they’re waiting for the next chip!! So will be lots of power in that guy 🔥 your current laptop is a killer too so I wouldn’t be in too much rush
I don't know how much stock you put into rumors/leaks, but they seem to indicate an M1/M1X 16 inch MBP may be coming this summer
@@saradietschy i think they will keep m1 + add some cool gpu. Other chip this year i can imagine only for mac (imac) pro

I just wish engineering apps got native support from the M1 software . Now that would be a game changer.
Even my Pro 16 with the i9 chugs opening my docked apps. The optimization of the M1 is insane and part of me wishes I had waited for this machine. 🥲
What lights were you using for the purple-lit backdrop?
The M1 really makes me think to change to Mac, even as a Windows user. Maybe not yet but if the majority of the programs is updated for the M1.
Regarding strange problems in Premiere: Since the 2020 version I'm not able anymore to export ca. 6.7K timelapses to H265, because Premiere tells me I don't have enough RAM. But if I use the 4 or 8K presets it's working. No Idea how to solve the problem, except using the 2019 version...
+1 for SD card 🚀

I've been editing on the lowest budget model of the mac mini (8GB & 256), and it literally blew away my 2018 fully loaded and $$$$ imac. I don't care about roseta stone, I just need products to work and get the job done. If its slower, no big deal.

Final Cut its so fast - very impressed.
thank you for the updated review ! amazing :)

Great smart and funny video, as always. You‘re very unique and you look so much better without the make up!
my 2018 15" MBP keeps dying after like 2 hours, I think it's definitely time to move to whatever 16" they come out with
It’s a little annoying how Spotify app is glitchy on the m1 or even if I go on the web Spotify player it’s still slow
Spotify on m1 is horrible
@@muditahlawat I agree it honestly ruins the m1 experience because everything starts to get slow to respond or glitchy
@@Matt-dt1td does spotify run well on literally anything?
The kind of video editing she talks about that's really difficult like with a7s3 footage, is only done by a small minority
lol
Go Team Resolve! 😁
Lets use clean my Mac on this old MacBook 🤣 Pulls out MacBook Air. Me... Glances to MacBook Pro 2010 sitting on desk. 🤔
Sara: Don't hold your breath for the M1 compatible Premiere Pro
Me: Don't hold your breath is good advice for working with Adobe programs generally
Ready for the 16” refresh with that 99Wh battery with Apple Silicon
Sara... can you do a comparison review between the M1 and the Microsoft SQ2 in the Surface Pro X? They're both ARM styles (slightly different but still ARM)... That's the two comparable chips. Just a thought. Thanks.
non-comparable. m1 is way more faster
