This song was featured in a movie from 1955, called “Unchained” and then became a #1 hit for the Righteous Brothers in 1965. So it was all about a prison story, Home Free took it to the correct concept. The Doo-Whop sound is a great change and they do a fantastic job!
this has quickly become a favorite among all the Home Fries too....it's just beautiful. I also emjoy that they paid tribute to the 1955 movie from where the song came
The Righteous Brothers had a big hit with "Unchained Melody" in 1965. Home Free did such a beautiful rendition of this classic song. The video in prison is very fitting as this song was originally written for the 1955 prison film "Unchained". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or finishing his sentence and returning to his wife & family. The song focuses on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
Good analysis Dani. I loved Tim starting with that low timbre. It was unexpected and yet beautiful. Then ending with Austin was perfect. Loved the black and white film and the typewriter. Yes, they went back to the roots of the song written for a prison movie Unchained. Well done HF. 😀
Yes and it has about 9 million views now! He's so awesome! If you haven't watched his solo of Bring Him Home and also Tears in Heaven, be sure you do. And have tissues ready! lol. Take care.
This is the most creative and beautiful version of this song I've ever heard. Home Free really made it their own. Everything about it musically and visually is perfect. Home Free upgrades another song. Love them.
My future wife and I danced to unchanged melody by the Righteous Brothers at my senior ball. She waited for me to return from deployment. We have 3 kids and 11 grandchildren after 54yrs of marriage to the love of my life. I also enjoyed home frees version.
Always loved Elvis's passionate version ... Home Free's is more melancholy with stunning harmonies . Guess I have two favorite versions now ... can listen to the song without tears when I need to !
I enjoy when artists are creative when doing covers. Sometimes it doesn't work too well but in many cases, it puts a fresh, new, enjoyable spin to a classic song. Love your reaction Dani, spot on. Hope you will react to Eva Cassidy covering your favorite (mine too) song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
Haven't hear her sing that for decades. Her Time after Time was featured in an episode of Smallville in a funeral scene and is also a favorite as well.
I'm a big Home Free fan that grew up on Elvis. I'm old enough that I saw him in Orlando in 1976. I know Austin Brown is a big Elvis fan as well. Would you react to one of Elvis less known songs. It's called "Anyplace is Paradise". I think Austin / Home Free would crush the song as well.
Home Free and their harmonies!! Such powerful visuals and a remarkable version of the song ❤️ I know it hearkens back to the mid-century movie and they portray it spectacularly, but I do hate seeing our guys behind bars. 😕 However, they can definitely "emote" through their music/videos better than just about anyone else out there!! ❤️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Since you are an Elvis fan, please check out this bass singer's version of Elvis's last single "Way Down". The guy is named Geoff Castellucci. He clones himself to cover all the harmonies and even hit JD Sumner's last super low note of C1. Geoff is the bass singer for acapella group VoicePlay. Geoff also has his own solo channel he started in 2020. His solo choices are old songs. He does his own arrangements, video concepting and his wife and other band mates help with lighting and camera work. They literally do 99% of the work other than final mixing. VoicePlay covers movie songs("Hoist The Colours" from Pirates Of The Caribbean), Disney ("Little Mermaid" medley and most recently "We Don't Talk About Bruno"), Broadway music ("Wicked" medley and "The Greatest Showman"), songs from games ("Halo") and classic rock ("Dream On" cover of Aerosmith). They have gone through some members, but 3 members that are in all the videos are Layne Stein (Vocal percussion), Eli Jacobson (pronounced like Elli, rhymes with jelly) tenor the bald guy, and Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, bass, then Cesar De La Rosa is newest member and sings baritone and tenor. They rotate on "featured guests".
You should watch Home Free's "Man of a constant sorrow" Geoff Castellucci's "16 Tons" and Voiceplay's "Oogie Boogie Song" "This is Halloween" "Sea Shanty Song" you'll love them all!!!
Very nice version. In my opinion this and Elvis' version are the only two that come close to Bobby Hatfield's (Righteous Brothers) version Opinions are subjective and I'm sure many disagree, but I think most people favor one of these three.
if you haven't seen it yet, please check out Austin Browns version of this song that he did on his own. ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=austin+brown+unchained+melody
Dani,I always look forward to reviews. They give out such warm and happy feelings. Try James brown. See where soul music begins by the God father himself.
I probably watch a lot of these reactions because of Dani more so than the music. It's like hangin out with a friend who you enjoy. Right from the start, of course these guys are talented and all not to take anything away from them, but the dude with the deep voice at the beginning all I could think was he sounded like he was burping his lyrics. Kind of like we use to do as kids with too much coke or dr pepper in us, clowning around bein goofballs. Couldn't help but think if this were the 90s and Beavis and Butthead reviewed this video they'd be rippin these poor guys to shreds. Butthead: "Whoa, this dudes like burping his lyrics!" Beavis: "Yeah, heh heh yea, heh heh, burrrrrrp, my love, burrrrpp whoa my love burrpp.." Butthead: "Yea Beavis you sound just like him." Beavis: "Burrpp, yeah. Heh heh thanks Butthead. I trained really long and hard to learn how to do that. Butthead: "Hhhhhuuhhh you sthaid hard."
Yes hello it's me again hey there Carl Supertramp Garnett hide in your shell it's a nice tune and all that but I wouldn't want to be beside those people in jail and have them singing that to me I done sometime when I was a kid but I rebuilt ate it now haha from Canada Toronto Scarborough Ontario Carl Supertramp Garnett hide in your shell God bless be safe 1124 it's almost time for bed goodnight Carl

Austin got his own solo stint on this song early last year, sitting in his house with just his friend Steven Martinez on guitar.

@@conniestone2806 Truly. He has so many great songs I can watch on loop over and over. Tears in Heaven keeps a tissue in my hand every time.
Check out Austin's solo work with this same song. It is definitely beautiful !
anazing what you can do with 5 tenors, 3 sopranos, 2 baritones, 5altos and the world's best beatboxer!!!
So talented. They just never miss on a song
Home Free is the best. Great reaction

Gorgeous!! A masterpiece!
My all-time favorite song + My all-time favorite band = HEAVEN The guys are in jail because they killed this song!!
This was originally written as a Jail song. Home Free portrays an inmite writing to his girlfriend hoping that she has waited for his release.
Dani, You are so preceptive and provide a wonderful reaction!! Thank you!!

Unchained Melody has ALWAYS been about a prison love letter ... FWIW We just didn't know that. Now we do.

Good commentary. Love Home Free.
Austin Brown does it with his buddy on the guitar. It's beautiful. Not dissing this one.
Your next Home Free should be When A Man Loves A Woman,You Really got this song.most don,t

interesting that Austin didn't imitate Bobby Hatfield's ending run. Both renditions are just beautiful in their own way.
Go to AUSTIN BROWN’S solo channel, here on UA-cam, … He’s done the high runs throughout. It’s got 9.4 MILLION VIEWS since he put in on here ‼️
You should watch Home Free's "Man of a constant sorrow" Geoff Castellucci's "16 Tons" and Voiceplay's "Oogie Boogie Song" "This is Halloween" "Sea Shanty Song" you'll love them all!!!
Austin does have a solo version of this song on his own channel. It's very good.
Loved your analysis
Great reaction ❤️
Can you please react to Austin Brown's " Bring him home " I promise you'll love it! ❤️
Beautiful
I never knew this song was written by someone in prison. Very touching.
@@charlesbunch8383 It wasn't. It was written by Hy Zaret for a 1955 prison movie called "Unchained".
Very nice version. In my opinion this and Elvis' version are the only two that come close to Bobby Hatfield's (Righteous Brothers) version Opinions are subjective and I'm sure many disagree, but I think most people favor one of these three.
I also like the song very much. The best performers of the song are Elvis and... you, Dani. That's really my opinion,. TYVMD. 🎧
Austin Brown does a solo version that is unbelievably awesome you should check that one out I promise you will not be disappointed
