Bobby 's solo is the best male solo ever. A gold standard that has not been achieved by the many others trying their best. Girls and Boys this is what real talent in the '60s was all about. No autotune, nor computerized enhancement, just pure God-given talent.
Yeah well I've heard that his mother was in the audience at night and he wanted to do a real good job I'm sure he was watching over towards her where she was sitting
I've recently watched about a dozen different "reactions" to this song and your assessment is the best yet. In my humble opinion this is the greatest solo performance by a male vocalist in the last 50 years.
Like you, I've watched several "reaction' videos to this song. To a person, they are stunned with how Bobby nailed this version. Another that ranks very close in power, emotion and quality is Tom Jones "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". Another "live" version. Such talent.

Hi Mark, I just saw this reaction yesterday, and it's an interesting reaction as well. UA-cam video: Righteous Brothers "Unchained Melody" REACTION & ANALYSIS by Vocal Coach / Opera Singer

Thanks for NOT interrupting a lot.... like so many reviewers of this song do. And I thuought your comments were spot-on and very accurate.... good job on an amazing song!
"Unchained Melody" was recorded by at least two dozen other artists, and was recognized as a great work of songwriting. Then Bobby Hatfield did this, and his stunning performance became the essence of the song. No other version comes remotely close.
No one can sing this like Bobby Hatfield. This was done in 1965. No autotune. Love The brothers ( not really brothers) flipped a coin to see who would sing this and thank you to the music gods for that. Bill Medley was great as well. I'm so proud to be a baby boomer! This is our greatest singers of all time. He was awesome!!! I fell in love with him from the first time I heard him sing this song. I was in high school when I heard him sing this song. ❤❤❤
Bobby Hatfield would put 99 percent of so called "Singers" today absolutely to shame. The guy had a great tone, vocal control, phrasing, intonation & an incredible high range.
They say he was really nervous with his parents in the audience, but you couldn’t tell it. Notice no auto tune. Just wonderful singing. He was my idol way back when!
Yes I've been watching reaction videos to this superb classic by Bobby Hatfield and seen several women reviewers get goosebumps and chills of pleasure and naturally go into a self-hug. I've never seen a song bring out such deep emotions and joy in both men to a lesser extent and for sure to most women. Bobby did have the voice of an Angel and I think God rigged the coin toss on who got to sing this song Bobby or Bill Medley. Bill would have done a very good job but God wanted to gift humanity with a perfect version. :)
Many of the men reactors also mentioned having goosebumps as a result of listening to Bobby's performance of this song. I can never hear him sing it too much!

I was senior in High School when this song first came out. My best girl and I used to close dance to this song every Friday night at the hop after the high school football game. I played on the football team and was stiff and sore, but it was so beautiful and breath taking we both cried every time. It was "our song". She had a cute little pony tail, long bobby socks, and pleated white skirt, and she wore my letterman sweater. I was so proud of how good she looked inside my letterman's sweater. She was the prettiest girl in the world. We went to different colleges. Time and distance ended our romance. 25 years later my daughter and I danced to that song at her wedding, and she wore the same letterman sweater, white bobby socks, a pleated skirt, and a pony tail. For some reason everyone cried. It is such a beautiful song. I am so happy the younger generation has discovered it.

Bobby Hatfield's voice back then and now still is pulling the heart strings of the ladies with his voice that was so buttery, smooth , velvety that it will linger for ever in that ladies of the past, present and future have, are and will fall in love with Unchained Melody....
Unchained Melody was written for a prison movie titled 'Unchained' (1955). It was first sung in the movie by African American opera singer, film and Théâtre actor Todd Duncan. The song was composed by Alex North with lyrics by Hy Zaret. Since 1955 this song has been sung by major recording artist from around the world. Making it one of the most recorded songs in history. In a live television performance on the 'Andy Williams Show' 1965. Bobby Hatfield of the 'Righteous Brothers' gave an epic performance that was one for the ages. His rendition has become the version every recording artist has used and uses today. Making it the quintessential version of them all. The rest as they say is history.
Todd Duncan did steal the show, in the movie “Unchained”, with his rendition of the movie’s theme song. He sings the song in its entirety during a live action scene, which depicts the tortured souls of the prison inmates. Duncan’s version was, necessarily, more restrained than Hatfield’s version, because of the intimate setting, of prisoners gathered, listening in sorrow. Todd Duncan would’ve been a much more famous singer (perhaps adding “recording star”, on top of his successful career in opera and stage); if the movie “Unchained” made it past the Drive-In Theater circuit.

Hello young lady. I viewed the airing of this song on the Andy Williams Show ( another talented singer ). The song had been playing for a couple weeks prior to this television program on " top 40 " radio stations and was already well received by listeners. I've carried the memory a long time now. I'm glad that Mr. Hatfield's rendition found it's way to UA-cam. I'm thankful to have seen your eloquent description and sense about this song. To me this is the definitive version. Subscribed.
The very best!!!!
