I think the one at 1:16 is nice :) if they'd made something like that, but with a Disney budget behind it, they could've come up with something that could stand alongside the incredible Cinderella dress in a live action Princess lineup. but alas. then with the various dresses from The Little Mermaid they didn't even try, which was tragic. Ariel didn't have the same kind of showstopper as the others, but she still had some really nice dresses. and the sparkly dress coming out of the ocean was to die for, and also just not that hard to pull off. they could've done it. :P
I really like the top of the redesigned dress, but the bottom looks too bulky and chaotic. Like you took a few curtains and wrapped them around her waist. The colors are also very dark and muted. Your concept was pretty solid, though.
Anyone could have done better than both her and the movie. The movie looks like a evening gown from 1939 with the geometry of a 1860s southern belle design, whereas her interpretation looks like nothing, and very unnatural puff fabric design, which a horrid unnatural look to it..somehow outworst by the torso which I despise.
I can see the vision you had, I wished the dress had been more accurate to the movie. And ontop of that- I hadn't realized how close the color was to an omollet and now I can't unsee it. xD
As someone who has identified with Belle all her life, I want to thank you for doing such a marvelous job. Now the the dress that you made using VFX is absolutely perfect!
You did a pretty good job. Everyone talks about the dress, which is indeed terrible, but no one ever mentions how Emma Watson is standing in it. Her posture is bad the whole movie, but in this scene it's particularly egregious and sticks out like crazy. The dress, which is still elegant looking at least, looks way worse juxtaposed against her posture and expression. Its such an awkward looking shot. Ironically, it demonstrates how she would have benefitted from a corset, something invented by women for women to help with support.
They backpedal a lot on the reasoning, Said That the made dress intentional like That to make it easier to animate the dress flowing In the twirl shot. Some say they thought animators would Add details later. Or some suckers decided the simpel design was a “feminist princess look”. Seeing you doing a better job. really shows the skill issue and messy judgement in part that is Disney’s live action productions.
You worked on Ghost in the Shell?! That's so cool! The special effects in that movie got nowhere near the amount of praise they derserved; I thought it was a super cool movie! I actually prefer it to the original anime, for a variety of reasons.
The dress from *The King And I.* If they'd created a replica of that dress, it would have been perfect. It was already in gold, and it could withstand a full dance number. But who am I kidding? Emma Watson the drama queen wouldn't have agreed to wear it. 😆
Good stuffs! Appreciate the "old school" approach, manually tracking / aligning the 3D ref geo. I was wondering how far you can take it with them AI object track solutions these days, WonderStudio et al. Yet thinking about it, at least in more complex shots, them solutions would hard struggle to object track the person acting in that kind of gown. Amazed by the dress btw!
The thing that pisses me off about the live action dress is that there was concept art showing a more period-accurate dress that looked way better than the final product. So mad they went with that cheap prom dress.
Your version is already so much better and so beautiful!💛It really looks like Belle's og dress and actually feels like it belongs in a fairy-tale setting! The live action dress doesn't do justice to the original at all. It feels lackluster and uninspired and doesn't embody the elegance and romantic style that the original dress has. Whereas your version gives that dreamy and magical vibe that made so many of us fall in love with the original. 😊 It's a shame in the remake they didn't even do the bare minimum and instead robbed Belle of her iconic gloves. They couldn't even make the sleeves of the dress similar to the original like you did. Cosplayers have made better versions of Belle's dress with less time, money and resources than a multi-billion dollar company. The remakes often change details that were already perfect when they had a successful blueprint right in front of them that they only needed to copy. Instead they waste time and money changing things that never needed to be changed
It still looks kinda bad in a cosplay sort of way, but it is better than the movie. I think it should have been a draped fabric dress over shaping undergarments (crinoline?) a la the Marie Antoinette movie. The puffs above the drapes give a cartoony/cosplay like visual rather than an actual lavish ballgown.
I have no idea what this is and I needed to breathe through a paper bag when watching all the techy stuff but that's amazing! So much work for so little frames. Well done!
I love this video as someone who disliked that dress in the film but also as someone who teaches in a film school and this scene is used constantly to explain the MoCap for the beast. Everytime I see the BTS shots of the actor next to her in the grey suit I say "I mean I know why he's dressed like that but where was the focus on the dress?" The studio should've done more camera tests on the fabric. Great work and a great step by step look into 3D work!
*critiques Disney for ignoring historical time period accuracy* *also ignores historical time period accuracy* Honestly, really awesome work with composting, fantastic job! But I do wish you kept to your statement made in the beginning and actually tried to add historical accuracy to her costume. But as long as it satisfies your inner child, all is well.

Passion projects are so cool and I have so much respect for you (I am a 3D artist as well, but not nearly at this level!) Glad this popped up into my reccomendations.
the funniest thing about the dress in the movie, historically speaking, in the era in which the movie is set... corsets did not exist... What was used at that time were Stays, a garment to provide support and help with the silhouette of the time that was more cylindrical in the torso... but they weren't corsets
I cannot draw to save my life, but after seeing this video, it has got me kind of curious to learn VFX for designing my own fashion. I'm a new sewist learning to sew in anticipation of making my wedding dress, undergarments, etc. I would LOVE to have this kind of program to bring the ideas in my head to life, so I can see if it's missing something, or if it looks professional, possibly couture. I have fabrics picked out, I have swatches of silk, organza, etc. Just lacking a proper sketch of some kind.
I can’t believe you put the dress on Emma watson. It looks so pretty and much more true to the original material. I wish when Disney did these movies because they have so much money that they would actually make historically accurate clothing.
For me, Belle in the 2019 movie looks so SAD. No matter the dress, it's not Belle. I just googled "belle dinsey parks" and THAT's the kind of Belle I'm talking about, the dress are absolutely beautiful and faithful to the animated movie AND time period, but most importantly Belle looks so lively, the spark in her eyes, her graceful and caring smile, her voluptuous hair. When you look back at Emma Watson's Belle, you instantly see why it looks so sad and dull in comparison. The Beauty and the Beast adaptation would have been made in the best way in the early 2000s, similar to 1997's Cinderella.
I feel like they could have made at least the skirt of the dress look nice without a corset. Anyway, your version of the dress is beautiful. Very impressive work!

I just made a video for the Pink ballgown, check it out and let me know what you think :)
You made it so much better! I wish people like you were in charge of it.
that is definitely an improvement!! .. "M'lady, may I have the honor of dance?"
Some people are just so talented and tech savvy...I could never. This was amazing ❤❤
Wow !! You nailed it!!
Thanks !!
Please do Ariel’s ballgown in The Little Mermaid ❤
It's on my list :D
@@crafthive can you do Ariels ending glitter dress.
agreed@@d-1381
Ballgown, done! go check it out! Let me know what you think :)
I didn't have the time to add the silver dress in there, maybe for another video, but its on my radar :D
your dress is beautiful :D this is how they should of made the dress just like the beautiful animation :D
Girl, Disney needs to hire you, you're actually creative and know what you're doing to make the animated masterpieces come to life.
My favorite is at 1:16 . The dress is exactly how I pictured Belle's dress. Good job to the fan who made it!👍👏👏👏
you only show the final product for 3 seconds, come on, you gotta linger on the final reveal more than that
I... Forgot just how bad that movie dress was... Wow... Your transformation is amazing!
this is exactly Belle’s dress omg
Can you make an historical accurate version of the dress? 🥰
Amazing, We want more tutorial like this(CG dress compositing with live action footages)💖
Sheesh that look wayy better and still realistic too
1:11 @alexandraLouise's version of the dress is the most beautiful real-life adaptation I think I've ever seen.
Beautiful work. That takes a lot of skill and time to do.
Most definitely better and beautiful!
That Belle dress looks better here than in other videos of people redesigning it.
Because beauty and the beast follows Cinderella release-wise, it was so disappointing. Cinderella was beautiful costume wise!
This one is great, it would have been awesome to see this in the big screen
So mad they went with that cheap prom dress.
seeing the comparison between yours and the original, og looks like a cheap costumey prom dress now
Now THAT. Is how you turn a cartoon dress into a love action possibility. That looks SO much better.
Awesome video! Dress looks so much better.
It's a shame in the remake they didn't even do the bare minimum and instead robbed Belle of her iconic gloves. Instead they waste time and money changing things that never needed to be changed
very satisfying video!!!
I don't really like the final look of the redesign but you are super talented and I enjoyed watching the process of you redesigning it!
This is SO MUCH better!!
Well done!
i love both dresses BUT yours is more princess like hehe
May favorite is when one pins felt tacos 🌮 on the lower half. People look puzzled, then chuckle once they get it. Best Halloween party ever. 😅
This is so cool! What a labor of love. You're very talented!
Wow this was amazing!
Thank you, honestly. I’ve despised this dress for the longest time and it’s so nice to get a visual of what i would have liked to actually see.
*critiques Disney for ignoring historical time period accuracy*
*also ignores historical time period accuracy*
Honestly, really awesome work with composting, fantastic job! But I do wish you kept to your statement made in the beginning and actually tried to add historical accuracy to her costume. But as long as it satisfies your inner child, all is well.
I don't think my computer could run some of this stuff, but it was really interesting to watch. Definitely going to see what else is on your channel!
Text book example of ADHD/VFX artist, im in love
You guys are sooo skilled
Thank you, we really appreciate it :)
@Crafthive Thank you for fixing Belle's gown. I don't understand with all this money why these people are so lazy about doing things right from the jump. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all. We, the fans, are good with you not messing up our s!*/.
When you were draping the fabric, I was totally getting Cinderella vibes when the mice made her dress.
Epically Beautiful ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥 Thank you for sharing. 💯❤🔥
New Sub
Amazing design, you literally made her dress look exactly how most of us hoped it would’ve looked. You should do a reimagined version of Cinderella’s live-action dress.
Watching this video with a headache was a bad idea ‘cause I was trying so hard to follow what she was doing lol (amazing work btw)
I tip my hat to you. You did an AMAZING job. Beauty and The Beast is my absolute favorite Disney movie. Seeing the live action dress was such a disappointment, thank you! ❤
If I see one more person say 'wokism' unironically over a person having an opinion or a fictional dress I may lose it.
Lovely work! 3D modelling something is one thing, but putting it onto live action footage is something entirely different!
Now I see dressed in premium version ❤❤❤
I cannot draw to save my life, but after seeing this video, it has got me kind of curious to learn VFX for designing my own fashion.
I'm a new sewist learning to sew in anticipation of making my wedding dress, undergarments, etc.
I would LOVE to have this kind of program to bring the ideas in my head to life, so I can see if it's missing something, or if it looks professional, possibly couture. I have fabrics picked out, I have swatches of silk, organza, etc. Just lacking a proper sketch of some kind.
Awesome! You can join our discord server, we can discuss all things VFX and Marvelous Designer to create your art pieces :D
THANK YOU I share your exact feelings for how they did this dress. An injustice
HERMOSOOO 😍❤️ me encanta el cambio que hiciste, el vestido es simplemente precioso ❤
love it!!!
I can’t believe you put the dress on Emma watson. It looks so pretty and much more true to the original material. I wish when Disney did these movies because they have so much money that they would actually make historically accurate clothing.
Now that is the dress we should have got!
That amount of work for just a couple of frame of an almost static shot could've been done in photoshop.
Where's the fun in that?
This is literally the coolest ever.
The dress looks perfect now
I feel like they could have made at least the skirt of the dress look nice without a corset.
Anyway, your version of the dress is beautiful. Very impressive work!
nice work ,a comment for algorithm
Thank you so much
Disney should release an updated version of this film where they CG in a more appropriate dress!
Designerdaddy created the most amazing Belle dress
See Disney? It's not that you couldn't do it. It's you didn't want to
This was amazing! Well done! I can't believe you only have 4.88K subscribers. I really appreciate the amount of work you put into this. I also HATED the live action Belle ballgown, especially because I LOVED the cartoon one. I've always thought about making this dress (I can sew) properly. You chose the right fabrics for sure here! I think I may steal your design when I finally get around to it 😜 Well done again! New subscriber here! 👍 Big love to you from Manchester UK xXx
Thank you so much!! :) I'd love to see what you come up with when it's done :D
