In my 65 years, I have gone through a number of favorites, Herbie, Chick, Petrucciani, Lorber, etc. Jeff, I seriously doubt that in the time I have left on this earth, I am going to find anyone in my eyes that is better. Valeriy is by far the staccato king, though he rules everything else as well!

I'm old, and came of age during the birth of Rock. I've had the pleasure of seeing some of the best players EVER. And as much as there wouldn't be a Matteo without Jimi Hendrix, a Gergo without a John Bonham, a Valerie without a Chick Corea or a Junior without a Jaco, there has NEVER been this level of excellence in the world of music before now. 🙏
Every time I listen to Valeriy, my lower jaw spends more time on the floor than my feet. The complexity of his compositions is one thing, his playing another, not to mention the insane abilities of the various musicians he has in his videos. Every song he writes is like an epic journey in which you're really not sure where you're going because there are mind blowing twists and turns that take you to places you could never imagine existing. You never know what the next bar may hold and where you're going to next. All you can do is to make sure you're "strapped in", hang on tight and enjoy the incredible ride. I love this guy and his incredible music. Great job as always Jeff, I really love what you do and how you dissect, explain and comment on what we just heard. I'm so happy I stumbled onto your channel and am really enjoying everything you share. Thank you.

The whole song is Bonkers. Gergo's solo has to be one of the all-time best drum solos I've ever heard any drummer play in my 47 years of drumming. You better believe this song is on my saved favorite list! I'm glad you got a chance to "experience" it!

Valery Stepanov is new to me, Jeff. I started watching his videos few months ago. I can REALLY appreciate his "musical mind" as well as his skill. And he - from what I've been exposed to or seen - ALWAYS has these next level CRAZY GOOD musicians!! It would be truly something to see him team up with Michael League of Snarky Puppy.

Gergo is a master that not many know about. He's about the as clean, smooth and as fast as they get, a human (I assume) metronome. Find his video of him playing just the snare, highhat and bass, mind blowing!

Valeriy is up there with the best. Sadly he still seems to be relatively unknown in the fusion revival (as I call it, Snarky Puppy, the London scene etc). We are blessed with the internet and channels.like.yours, showcasing incredible talent. I am a little concerned that,.like in sports, Russian artists will be punished for politics they have no dealings in whatsoever. I hope Valeriy and his crew get the opportunity to tour and make music lovers happy all over the world!
I really hope politics doesn't play an role in this guy getting the recognition he deserves. Valeriy has showcased so many incredible musicians who are not Russian so maybe there is hope for him to catch on!
Some countries are banning Russians from entering. What's next, internment camps? Would love to see Valeriy and his crew, as you put it, in the US, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon.

I dunno if you’re familiar with the jam bands Soulive and Lettuce, as well as the late Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor projects from the very early 2000s. I believe that era is what sparked this new generation of the “Snarky Puppy” era. I hear way too many elements from that era from them that it’s truly undeniable. But that may be my musician-bias standpoint.
Oh yeah, and it’s completely asinine when politics and government gets in the way of the arts! 😤

In my head, I am immediately comparing these virtuosos to other groups even though I feel their sound is unique. Groups as far back as Emerson Lake and Palmer, John McLaughlin, Lee Rittenour, Larry Carlton, and more recently Dirty Loops, Cory Wong, Snarky Puppy, Polyphia……… A lot of smooth pyrotechnics fused with I don’t know what :-) Again - simply unique! Great reaction, Jeff.
