solar is a straight up power belter, moonbyul is known for her mid/low rhythmic singing, wheein is known for her smooth breathy vocals, and hwasa is known for her husky and deeper tones, but all of them actually have incredible vocal range and versatility. since being a fan in 2014, i've never seen them do a genre they couldn't handle. from jazz, to retro, pop, funk, hip hop, r&b, ballad, and even rock, they slay every single fking time. while they stand out in the group for what they're known for best, i strongly suggest you check out their solo stuff for their actual range of talent. particularly for moonbyul, as her abilities as a vocalist are virtually untapped in mamamoo projects. hope this helps!
You're new to Mamamoo so you may not know that they're considered to be the top female vocal group in kpop. If you check out other songs by them, esp live performances, you may find yourself reaching for other comparisons besides Christina. Some of the western divas they've covered include Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Rihanna, Beyonce and Ariana Grande. Mamamoo is a 4X4 team of all stars and best friends. Mamamoo just finished up their first US tour last night with a concert in LA. They've been around since 2014 and never toured outside of Asia previously so I took advantage of the rare opportunity to see them by going to their concerts in NY and Baltimore. They're even better live than on recordings because of their amazing vocals, riveting stage presence and bff team chemistry. It was a very successful tour. I don't know the final ticket sales total but I heard that based on the pre-sale figures Mamamoo joined TLC and Spice Girls as the only girl groups to sell over 70K tickets for their debut US tour. You said Moonbyul and Solar correctly. Moonbyul's real name is Moon Byulie. Byul means star so Moonbyul also goes by Moonstar and you can call her that if it's easier for you. There's a double pun to Solar's stage name. Her real name is Kim Yongsun so Solar refers to the sun but it's also a pun on so la, as in do re mi fa so la. The implication of course is that her voice shines brightly and lights up your life and it's an apt metaphor. Solar is known for her power belting and emotional ballads. I'm also not a big fan of the bridge in Illella. As a dance break I wish it was longer but I wouldn't have minded another rap verse by Moonbyul as you suggested. In live performances they've dropped the bridge or done other arrangements such as a latin jazz pop version with horns, which I personally prefer over the original. As I'm sure you've noticed kpop songs often have a startling change in the bridge and even if Moonbyul took another rap verse I think it would have had to have been over something very different than the reggaeton groove used throughout the rest of the song or it would have gotten boring. Hope you check out more songs by Mamamoo. They're one of the most fascinating and talented groups in kpop. 😂
Not really an intro to mamamoo when you fail to mention half of the members wheein and hwasa are also part of the group and amazing vocalists I hope you also check them out
@@UzZZ-m4k Correct. If it was intended to be an intro to Mamamoo I'd have said so. I was trying to have a conversation by replying to comments he made, tho I did go off on a tangent or two along the way. :)
The Vocal Queens. Trust me, they are even better live. Saw them in concert 2 weeks ago and I was still blown away by their vocals and stage presence. The dance break here also threw me off a bit. Not my favorite and it would have been nice to see Moonbyul go off during that part. I feel RBW, their company, likes to add those little breaks but sometimes they just don't blend very well into the song. I believe only the MV has it in there not the studio version. This is still only a small percentage of the vocal power and charisma that Mamamoo offers. To me they are best female group in kpop and actually are more than just idols. Check out- Mamamoo Killing Voice Immortal Songs Medley Mamamoo Best Vocals Also. MOONBYUL is not only an amazing rapper, and the most credited female kpop rapper, she had amazing vocals as well and even auditioned as a vocalist. Check out her cover of Trying to say goodbye.
Roscoe, mamamoo in known industry for top tier voclas and have been around since 2014. Theyre voclas are amazing and harmonies. Stage presence and swag are theuir signiture as well. Hope you can give them anotehr song beofre moving on. They just completed a 9 state usa tour yesterday as well and recieved over 365 + 5 star reviews on ticket master..theyre so good live. Known for singing live no lipsyncs.
please do more mamamoo.. egotistical, hip ..are amazing. if you want to hear their real vocals ..recomend mamamoo on killing voice dingo. They sing live meddley of their hits. Give you good feel for their voclas power and muisc styles.
That song got me hooked on Mamamoo cause I saw their behind the scenes for the MV shoot first (mistook it for a Girls Generation promo cause they had a similar concept with the night shots for their comeback) and really liked their goofiness.
We’ve been saying about it too… another verse for byul to shine with her rapping/melodic rap…because we know she is capable to but maybe in the next cb
So many hated the dance break. I did too haha but during concerts it's cool and I like that they changed it. I like another version better. Also my favorite part of the song is Moonbyul's rap. so I totally agree with this
After seeing Mamamoo live I can atest that they are even *better* live than the recordings. The acappellas were amazing and the different arrangements of familiar songs showed their vocal ability.
Not chat saying that Solar mainly does the high notes when Wheein did that iconic whistle note (or close to whistle note) sound in Woohoo 💀 which i definitely recommend even though it's an ad music video but tbh Mamamoo ads are the biggest bangers. Hwasa can also hit those highnotes btw. You should watch their Immortal Songs performances and their medley
The MAMAMOO members(as of 2020) are among some of the most-credited idols in K-Pop. Moonbyul actually has the most songwriting credits of all 3rd generation female idols (at 65 credits according to this artical, but at 111 as of 2023), since she writes her own raps in almost all of the group’s songs. And more(songwriting, composition on Illella). Solar has 25+ credits to her name. She also wrote the lyrics and composition for her solo song, “Spit it Out”. Composer on "Honey" Hwasa, meanwhile, has 27+ credits. The lyrics to her solo song, “María”, were praised for its inventive and meaningful wordplay. ("Somebody" w/Loco) Wheein has at least 9 (that I can confirm, probably more) as of 2023. There are definately other songs between the artical in Sept 2020 and now... I've mentioned one for each LOL,
Heyyyyy! Us fans have been wanting their directors to change!!!!! They made some great stuff at the beginning, you should watch Wind Flower for reference! Maybe you should direct for Mamamoo
I've only been listening to Kpop since the pandemic, but to me Mamamoo is easily the most talented group I've come across. Other groups like Twice (which I also like) are very good, but I have not seen that they have the vocal abilities (except Jihyo). I guess what I mean, is that Mamamoo is the only group I think I would enjoy an acapella concert. I think too many kpop groups would struggle to pull that off.
Of the two "power vocal" moments you highlighted, the first was Hwasa (riding the silver bull), and the other was Solar, who usually does it (the Aguilera). As a side note, Wheein can belt, second in power only to Solar, but very rarely does it. The closest USA equivalent to Mamamoo would be if you put together Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Katy Parry, and P!nk as a group, and then initially told P!nk she has to be the group's rapper because someone has to do it, she seems to have a good "feel" for it, and she has the least "singerly" singing voice (and lower timbre)...
The company sometimes disregard moonbyul because she’s the main rapper but they should let her sing more her vocal ability is crazy and when she was a trainee she was always vocal but they needed a rapper so they forced her to be one
They can all belt but Solar is the one with the most power. Wheein is viewed as the backbone because all they she might fly other the radar most of the time, it's her range, agility and stability that pulls it all together. Oh yeah, she can belt as well. Hwasa is Hwasa. Yes, she too can belt. Moonbuyl, great rapper and she can sing. Her singing voice is clearly the weakest and the least developed but seeing that she has to 'compete' with the rest of the members it says more about the quality of the other 3 voices. All in all, do they have the best voices ever? No. But compared to most other GG there aren't many that come close as a group. The only ones I can think of in the Kpop scene is Big Mama (2nd gen) who disbanded 2 years before Mamamoo got on the stage. They reunited in 2021 by the way. I'm so sick and tired of reactor that will find anything (no matter how lacking) as FANTASTIC, the BEST EVER, MAGNIFICIENT just to trick fandoms in subscribing to them. Sure, taste differ and one can like all kinds of groups and kinds of music but if EVERY single group is FANTASTIC and there's never any kind of caveat or criticism it just reeks of hyperbolic LYING. The sad thing isn't seeing just regular people doing that but 'vocal coaches'. They'll even go on about the vocal prowess of a 'live' performance that is clearly lip synced. *face palm* You are a rare breed. You know how rare it is to hear any reactor, and I do mean any reactor, say something 'negative' a.k.a. voice a criticism of any kind even if it's just something about personal preference? That deserves a sub ! Keep it up.
Yeah, for me this is actually one of their weakest songs. A lot of people agree with you that that break was a miss. Your idea of an epic Moonbyul rap would have been way better! You should check out some of their most popular songs like Egotistic or Aya, but I think you would love Gogobebe even better. It's both catchy and hilarious!
This was a comment regarding cadence and flow… not Suga specifically. Moonbyul has an awesome skillset and I know she would’ve killed it if it had been in the song. It’s a reference.
I'll vote for more Moonbyul anytime
solar is a straight up power belter, moonbyul is known for her mid/low rhythmic singing, wheein is known for her smooth breathy vocals, and hwasa is known for her husky and deeper tones, but all of them actually have incredible vocal range and versatility. since being a fan in 2014, i've never seen them do a genre they couldn't handle. from jazz, to retro, pop, funk, hip hop, r&b, ballad, and even rock, they slay every single fking time. while they stand out in the group for what they're known for best, i strongly suggest you check out their solo stuff for their actual range of talent. particularly for moonbyul, as her abilities as a vocalist are virtually untapped in mamamoo projects. hope this helps!
