Just to clear some things up...when the USSR fell, many opportunists, "smart guys" or "the blue eyed" found it easy to buy for nothing state assests that later on were sold at very high prices. This, didn't only happen in fromer USSR/ Russia, but also in its satellite states. Corruption (particularily this kind of system corruption) was the main reason why some eastern block countries took long to enter the EU. Even now, things are not yet cleaned in the state system but in Russia it stayed the same with Putin. This guy is just one of many and most likely the reason he came out was because somebody wanted to get rid of him (like many jumped out the window, died in car crashes etc.). ive seen pugachev in a documentary about jeltzins election and a documentary about him and his ex-girlfriend and mother of his three youngest kids called the countess and the billionaire, and i gotta say, i find him super interesting and insightful. obviously i never know how honest he is when it comes to his own involvement and wrongdoings, but i find him very pleasant to listen to.
