69th comment and my birthday is 6/9.... Synchronicity.... Oh and Philip Sayce is so authentic in the way he just channels himself I feel like. And it's very apparent, his playing explains itself..
Well, dang! I think SRV is the GOAT and I loved his version of "Drivin' South" ... but this is every bit as good. Look forward to surfing around and hearing more of Philip Sayce.
Encore, encore, encore... OMG, quel intro sur ce morceau d'Hendrix!!! Tone Killer, Power Trio, perfect quality video, thank you so much for your sharing :)
So would Chris Duarte down below. An overlooked great guitarist. He does a great version of Driving South. He plays everything great. So does Mato Nanji of Indigenous.
Indigenous is an awesome group. Picked up on them a little late (15 or so years ago, I’m not sure) and the music they played just grabbed me and wouldn’t let go.
I was at his outdoor performance. It was a complete surprise and utterly fantastic. Of course, live, the sound is SO MUCH better than this tinny compressed UA-cam version.
Wow. SRV really started a great cult of Extreme blues guitar Showmanship -- and this Dude is a perfect example! SRV actually inspired me to start playing guitar again 20 years ago after seeing his Austin City Limits videos. And I'm sure Jimi is a great influence as well..
Great player.....but everything he does reminds me of a cover.......not much in original musicianship....but I love listening. Much of what he plays reminds me of Robin trower
I don't know who this guy is but if you're going to take on a tune made epic by Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, you need to be as epic or make sure it's not being recorded....
+BLUESGUITAROCKER And got boo'ed off the stage but he impressed one fan: David Bowie. I like SRV but I prefer this guy's style. Hes taking that SRV thing a step further a more funky rock direction. SRV was a fantastic player but I just find his stuff a little boring now. He just regurgitates the same Albert King licks over and over. SRV's version of Drivin South is horrible, it sounds like any one of his songs. Sayce played his own thing but he left in the key parts, nobody can play it exact its and improv jam even Jimi couldn't play it note for note and he defiantly wouldn't not his style. So yeah let the hate began I didn't bow down to SRV. All you guys can take a break swinging from his nuts and buying custom shop strats with "Texas" pickups lol. Old super reverb cranked + thick strings +heavy right hand attack +some boost (ts9, klon, etc..). Get off SRV nuts for split second to insult me.
uluberlu25 No shit. I thought thats what the guy meant i didnt know where this was played. Did you not read the part about Bowie? I dont think they were at the Montreal jazz festival. Thank you so much for that geography lesson. Its Switzerland BTW smart guy.
Although I reluctantly agree that SRV music has become somewhat tired, I think reducing his style to "regurgitated Albert King licks over and over" is just wrong. I bet Mr. Sayce would disagree with you, too. I always thought SRV was a better version of Albert King- a more defined sound. But there was a lot more to him than right hand attack, big strings and King bends. SRV is a link in the chain that leads us here to Philip Sayce. There's no need to disparage any of the links in the chain.
White guys doing guitar karaoke. No groove or subtlety that builds. Music is like sex; if you hump like a rabbit straight to the climax you have nowhere to go from there... and your woman ain’t gonna be too happy either. Kenny Wayne, Chris Duarte, Phil. No soul or vibe, just self-indulgent jerking off. Where’s the song?

Love Philip Sayce, he's awesome, on par with another hero, Jimi of course . Can you imagine those two sharing a stage, WOW!
Well, dang! I think SRV is the GOAT and I loved his version of "Drivin' South" ... but this is every bit as good. Look forward to surfing around and hearing more of Philip Sayce.

Geat stuff, but, er, what the fuck is this doing at a 'Jazz' festival?
Minseito Let us not forget that SRV played this festival !

+Toni Paradise SRV never got boo'ed in Montreal Canada, he got boo'ed in Montreux Swiss

Top level player, mediocre composer and songwriter
VoodooApex
You’re a top level wanker
He wants to be SRV. Its played out. Find you're own voice.
Very uneducated comment
Very original. NOT.
not even close to Hendrix, summer sucks, Mich far ahead of this putz, listen an compare. not even close.
Coming from a douche with footage of a Justin Bieber concert. Your putz kid..
