  • WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A JET SKI PERSONAL WATERCRAFT
    ► Our Website: mechaniclifestyle.com
    Hey guys, in this video we will cover some major things to check out when buying a used jet ski / personal watercraft. Jet skis are usually divided in two categories: 2 STROKE and 4 STROKE. There are advantages and disadvantages for both but I personally prefer 4 stroke. Always make sure you take it on water before you buy the jet ski / personal watercraft.

      @@calebkroll4698 It's not really a jet ski thing. It's an engine thing. Especially a 2 stroke engine thing. Jet skis get abused. Most people don't care for them properly. A compression test is a must before buying one. Even if it runs you need to do a compression check on each cylinder before buying one.

    after owning multiple skis over the course of several years, stay away from polaris and tigersharks, i seem to always favor ski doo because i am most familiar with them , ive had a couple yamahas and a kawasaki, never like the way yamahas handled, the sea doos are numerous and parts are relatively cheap compared to other brands

    I hope you don't buy that jetski because the 780 the parts are very scarce and the reason I know that because I use to specialized in Polaris engine parts I salvage them for a living for years and those blue motors are a nightmare.
    Also the 1st thing you need to do is make sure it has an aftermarket fuel pump because the stock blue fuel pump on the ski does not feed enough fuel into a 3rd cylinder therefore your 3rd cylinder always runs Very lean I just hope you done a compression test Especially checking the 3rd Cylinder

  • @gureno19
    @gureno19 7 років тому +46

    First step of buying a used jetski.
    1. Dont buy a 2 stroke unless you are into standup skis.
    2. Don't buy a brand that no longer exists, theres a reason they arent around anymore....
    3. Just avoid 90s built sit down skis all together.
    4. Hours arent everything, rental yamaha VX 4 strokes (most popular rental model in the world) get upto well over 1000 hours on original skis. A low hour ski jetski that is old....is still old, think of it like the 40 year old virgin.
    5. Dont buy a 2 stroke, seriously. Unless you like wrenching on your motor more then you ride it .
    6. Compression test it, a compression test kit costs like $25. And can tell you alot about the health of a motor. Above all buy one that has a very well documented history, sub 50 hour skis that werent cared for will blow up alot quicker then one with 100s of hours that was well maintained.
    7. Always water test, always.water.test

      Compression test, inspect the impeller and water test. 4 stroke a aren't a golden ticket to worry free use and will be even more expensive to repair. They keep making them more expensive and complicated the newer they get. 4 strokes are jam packed in the hull and a lot of the labor cost is just getting ti a part to replace it.

    • @markg999
      @markg999 5 років тому +3

      @oliver closehoff Where you getting those numbers...your math is way off. My point is jet skis get way more abused than a car does in a short amount of time.

    • @markg999
      @markg999 5 років тому

      @oliver closehoff No worries...2k hours would be tough. Rental skis get alot of use they can hit 1000+ hours so 2000 is possible with alot of use. Most put only 50 hours if that a year on a ski. Edit see some Yamaha rental have been known to hit over 2000 hours.
