@@williamdunn9010 Yes, I made them for this project. I had a couple of viewers ask me to cut a set for them, so I found an ebay seller who could do that for them. Before I bought my vinyl cutter this is the source that I used for custom graphics. Good luck!
plus a heat gun, plastic squeegee and exact-o blade to remove all bubbles from the vinyl. absolutely awesome work on the gel coat restoration and decal removal top notch.
I use a hair dryer on the decal and once they're nice and warm to the touch I then use a hard plastic 2 inch scraper to lift an edge. Sometimes you may only need your finger nail. Keep the hair dryer blowing on it while slowly peeling off the decal. Fast and easy. If there is some glue residue left on the hull, I use acetone to remove it. I don't use a razor blade or anything metal, as it may gouge the gel coat.
Thanks for sending me over to your page for the great ideas. We were thinking about doing something like this but your method is much better than what I was thinking of. Our SeaDoo and Jet Ski both need a bit of hull repair before we put graphics on them.

Nice job on the video! I loved seeing your ski transform from ragged-out oil soaked wreck to freshened-up water toy worthy of the 12 week Vermont riding season! Good luck as you grow your channel with interesting projects that won’t break the bank.
I’ve used Fast Orange hand cleaner with pumice to bring back the color on plastic parts. It’s very fine and leaves a smooth surface. I bought a 98 Waveraider and the mirrors were black. No more than ten minutes after I started they were bright yellow again.
Great job! Can't wait to try some of your ideas on my '95 waverunner! I have a couple questions....what did you use as your solvent to clean the glue residue? And what kind of spray paint did you use for the throttle body assembly? Thank you!!
For the residue I used Xylol but acetone does a very good job and it's both cheaper and easier to find. For the carbs I used engine enamel. I don't remember the brand, but a high temp engine paint is almost always fuel resistant. You don't want your paint to peel if it gets gas on it. My next project is going to be a Wave Raider. Any tips you have are most welcome.
i acquired a 93' and a 96' seadoo. both ugly yet run top shape. this video was very inspirational. i want to start a 90's jet ski club and call it 'CAN'T TOUCH THESE'
Steve, great videos. Glad I found you. Just bought my son a 1995 Kawasaki 750SXi. I have ordered some Jet Trim hydro turf and also thinking about wrapping the ski to get rid of the dated pink & purple look. My question to you is, how does the black plastic bumper paint you used on the rubber steering pad hold up? Obviously on a standup the pad will see more abuse than on a PWC. What are you thoughts on this kind of application. Thanks
The paint handles flexing pretty well but it tends to come off when you drag something across the surface. In my case, I used to throw a line around the handlebar at the dock and I had to stop doing that because it would leave small areas of green plastic showing through the paint. I now routinely touch up the paint a few times a year to cover the marks from wear and tear. At the beginning of this year's season I hit the entire pad with a touch-up coat to get rid of areas that flaked off after leaving the ski outside all winter. For you, paint might not be the right solution unless you don't mind doing the touch-up work to keep it looking good. I recently tried Plasti Dip on a Yamaha handlebar pad but I don't know yet how it's going to hold up. I expect that it will be about the same. The difference I noticed is that it doesn't overspray with big drops like the bumper paint, which means that you don't have to be as careful when masking the adjacent areas. Before or instead of painting you might want to try some Xylol (xylene) on the steering pad. It dissolves the rubber so you can scrape off the outer layer and get down to fresh material. Sorry I can't share any first-hand expience with stand-ups. I would love to hear how it works our for you.
Been crazy busy with work this month but I finally got a new one posted and another in editing. Pretty sure that you get a shout-out in the next one. Thanks for watching.
+Jeff North I drilled them out and used a punch on a few pesky rivets that didn't fall through. Holes were patched with 2 part epoxy putty like the stuff I used in the glass bottom boat video. In the past I have also used 2 part liquid epoxy but it tends to run down the hole before it cures. Good luck!
Awsome video exactly what I was looking for and I didn't even know it. The previous owner of mine did a poor paint job and blacked out the rub rails, sponsons and grab handle. How do I make these look good again? I know I can sand the paint off but I'm afraid that will run them. Thanks!
Kevin, Depends on what color they are. Once you get the paint off with stripper you can hit the rails with a heat gun and some of the color will come back. I use something like Armor All or a foaming tire shine to make the trim pieces look good for a while. After a couple of weeks they look like crap again but then I don't really notice until the end of the season when I do it again.
Hi Steve, you are a real artist my brother, I'm getting ready to paint my 2003 Polaris Virage, and cant find any graphics online for it, there's nothing, was wondering what you recommend I do to it.
Check out my video from WaveDaze 2018. You might find some inspriration there. Gotta be honest...people dig the arctic camo. I've never seen another like it on the water and I think it would look good on the Virage.
You probably won’t see this but I just bought a 96 sea doo SPX and I’m wondering what the best way to take the handle bar pad off to do some cleaning and painting?
Kevin, It's called Xylol. The generic name is xylene. It's thinner for rubber-based paint that's used for swimming pools. Takes the top layer right off.
Great video very well done love the music and the way you laid it all out. How did you make the sea do and the factory stickers you said you made them yourself?
+Roger Hockemier thanks for the kind words. Check out the video about carbon fiber graphics. It shows the cutting machine that I used. Pretty handy if you can pick one up cheap.
And the solvent is Xylol (xylene). It's the thinner that you use for vinyl pool paint. Harsh on your skin but it does a job on sticker glue. Also takes off Plasti-Dip if you don't lay it on thick enough to peel.
Have you ever made custom gunwale bumpers or rub rails or whatever they are called. I just picked up a 93 Yamaha VXR 700 Pro and the plastic bumpers are all broken and rotted and I can’t find anything to replace them with!!
Hey Steve I recently bought 4 skis 2 94s and 2 96s I love the idea of what you done I have already started on mine but am curious on what type of paint you used on your hood and has it lasted long and does it look good on the one I’m doing it to it’s the 94 so the bumpers are purple and the bottom is green and everything else is pink trying to get rid of the pink and do mostly black thanks
Justin, I used matte black paint for plastic car bumpers from the local auto parts store. Brand doesn't matter much. Once in a while I have to touch it up. It's easy to do and keeps it looking sharp. When it comes to the rub rails, I don't recommend painting them unless you are willing to do touch-up work every time you bump into a dock. The side air intake grates and the gas cap hold up well, but I haven't committed to painting the bumpers, except on the Plasti Dip ski which is one big experiment. Would love to see the final product when you are finished.
Awesome video! I have a 1994 Sea Doo SP that needs a lot of freshening up. I have owned it since it was new and have taken good care of it. I'm taking off the old faded graphics and want to clean up all the gel coat. What do you suggest to use on the gel coat to get it looking like new again?
If the gel coat has turned chalky you will probably have to wet sand it before polishing. If not, then pick up a bottle of fiberglass boat polish from the boat supply store and start rubbing. I bought an inexpensive electric polisher years ago at Harbor Freight and it has served me well. You will be surprised at how much of the shine will come back. If the ski was out in the sun for years, then you may not be able to completely get rid of the outline of the vinyl graphics, either due to yellowing or an actual difference in gel coat thickness where the stickers were but a fresh polish job will still make it look great. Search UA-cam for a video on how to restore the finish on a boat hull to get some technique pointers. Having now worked on both SeaDoos and Yamahas I'm convinced that the gel coat on the SeaDoo is thicker than the gel coat on the Yamaha. Just proceed carefully so you don't get carried away and sand/polish all the way through the gel coat. Good luck!
Great suggestion. I did tear up the gelcoat a bit until I figured out the right combination of heat and blade to pull the vinyl off in larger sections.
Very cool me and my friend are thinking about doing that to his old polairs I have a 2013 sea doo and I've got to ask what year is that and did it start when you first got it ?
The white 2 seater that you see in most of my videos is a '94. Changes to the basic design were minor from '93 to '98 and there are plenty of them out there. This particular ski took some tinkering to get started but I guess the simple answer is, yes it ran. With any watercraft this old, you are going to have some good days and some bad days. Today, for example, it happens to run. Some day I'll spend the $$ and buy some modern technology like you did. I can only imagine what it's like to push the start button with the full expectation that it's going to fire up and run. BTW, I think the polaris would look great with some custom graphics!
I graduated high school in 87. Everything was flourescent and neon. I completely agree with you about those sickeningly bright sea doos. I live in Newport News (I saw your Va boat numbers) and I see them in peoples back yards broken down and neglected all the time.
The seat cover was easy - I picked up some marine-grade vinyl at my local fabric shop, stretched it tight over the seat, then stapled it to the plastic seat frame. Search youtube for re-cover jet ski seat and there are plenty of how-tos. I have the video footage to make one, but I figred that other people had that covered already...could be fun, though. Make sure you use stainless steel staples or they will rust out in minimum time. For the lettering, I used a stencil/vinyl cutter. Check out my other video on how to make a carbon fiber center console decal. It shows the cutter in action as well as the software it comes with.
love my 98 GSX limited in red and purple, good job on your custom graphics.... $20 in materials but how many hours did you spend on that, time is money bro
So true. It took the better part of a day to remove the old graphics and install the new stuff. I split it up into a half day Saturday and a half of Sunday to get some honey-do jobs done. Once you get the graphics off it doesn't take much time at all to throw the camo on. Next time I will spend the extra $30 or so for automotive wrap grade vinyl and eliminate bubbles. Now if I had a GSX with that spiffy color combo I wouldn't have to do any of this.
Great job. What did you use to replace the floor matting? Hyrdro-turf is high dollar. I'm sure there's a reasonable DIY material. I was even thinking of high density yoga mat material, or anti fatigue floor matting.
+JJ0three11 I haven't found a cheaper substitute, although it would be interesting to try a couple of options. For now I don't have any kind of traction mat and i find that the traction provided by the textured deck is generally adequate.

I just did my floor with rubber truck bed liner from an aerosol can, turned out amazing! Bought from your local automotive store. Paid $10.00 so it's a very inexpensive idea to add with this perfect graphic idea of yours!
Have to give it a try. You will see in another video that I ended up with Hydro-Turf on a Yamaha project ski. Looks great but I understand the desire for a cheaper option. This could be a good solution.
That's was an amazing video bro :) But what did u exactly buy to make the ski like that or did u just buy the vinyl (if so how much) and make the seadoo graphics ur self... please reply cause I will be doing this to my seadoo because I have the same exact one and I love it but just looks a little old and a little revamping won't hurt
I ordered a pack of 10 five foot rolls of Oracal 651 adhesive vinyl: 2 light gray, 2 dark gray, 2 orange, 4 black. That's enough to do two jet skis with black logos and the arctic camo. Note that this is the cheap option and you will get some air bubbles under the vinyl. If you want it to look good up close then you might consider spending more and using vinyl for automotive wraps. At 45 MPH the cheap stuff looks great.
George Zama the vinyl cutter that I used is made by Silhouete. Here's a video that shows how to make a "carbon fiber" center console using vinyl and the cutter: ua-cam.com/video/1Ok5r1h_6r4/v-deo.html
Yep. Pretty much. You will need a razor blade or hobby knife and I would suggest wet sanding and possibly a round of rubbing compound before applying your graphics if the gel coat has turned chalky. If you go with the el-cheapo vinyl you can get rid of most of the bubbles by poking them with your blade and then flattening out each bubble with your finger. Post a video when you are done. We would love to see your interpretation!
Great video. But can you tell me where did you get the graphics or how did you did it?!!! And where didi you get pats? Or gow did you restore them..thanks

I have one that has been outdoors for two years with no peeling and very little fading. The painted plastic requires occasional touch up for scratches but the vinyl graphics are solid.

Don't forget to update and show how that shit peeled off after sitting in the sun all day
What 'solvent' did you use for handlebar covers???
Xylol (xylene). We tried a number of other solvents before figuring that out. It's used as thinner for rubber-based pool paint.
I think I want to try this with my waverunner xl700, thanks for the inspiration.
It looks amazing and I'm going to do it to my 1993 sea doo gtx but for the seat did you buy a seat cover or paint your seat cover that was already on?
Recovered it myself with some inexpensive fabric and a staple gun. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/_4--QNDOEUc/v-deo.html
Ommfg!!! Great video! Ill subscribe!!
I couldn't agree more, those old sea doo color schemes were hideous. Great idea to help tame the flourescent beast of the 80's.
"The fluorescent beast" - I love it!
I graduated high school in 87. Everything was flourescent and neon. I completely agree with you about those sickeningly bright sea doos. I live in Newport News (I saw your Va boat numbers) and I see them in peoples back yards broken down and neglected all the time.
This videos great your jet ski looks so cool now but for the seat did you buy a black seat cover and how'd you make the lettering decals
Oh ok thank you
love my 98 GSX limited in red and purple, good job on your custom graphics....

Wont sanding it remove the protective coat?
Just don’t get carried away and it will be fine. 😎
And I liked and subscribed
Steve Vigus great thank yo so much :)D So all the 10 packs of final wrap was $20 all together correct and thats all u need basically
How did you change the color of the seat?
Can I get examples of the vinyl wrap you use on amazon??
Great video. But can you tell me where did you get the graphics or how did you did it?!!! And where didi you get pats? Or gow did you restore them..thanks
Check out my other videos for how to make custom graphics, restore faded plastics, reupholster seats, etc. If you subscribe and click on the little bell you can get notified when new videos are posted. Thanks for watching.
I’m getting a 2003 ski doo soon it has mirrors can I take them off?
Check your local regulations. You might need them to legally pull a tube.
Where did you buy the vinyl sheets from?
okay- now that you've let that sit around in the sun.. how did that vinyl hold up? did it peel?
I have one that has been outdoors for two years with no peeling and very little fading. The painted plastic requires occasional touch up for scratches but the vinyl graphics are solid.
Look amazing, how do you make the letters?
Made them using a Silhoette vinyl cutter. Super easy.
What did you use to clean off the ski?
Super Clean. Comes in a purple jug.
