Wow wow wow wow That was an awesome video I could've watched about 60 more minutes of it though I just got to say Thank you JF For producing In putting out a supremely High-quality and exciting video... In my eyes everything you touch is Gold And I'm very sincere in that comment thanks again...
So can you bring a stock Aston to ProDrive, ask them to install racing suspension, brakes, and rollcage, would they do it? I think an Aston with racing bits on the street is a thing of dreams to me.
The Aston Martins do have a short wheelbase compared to some other GTE machinery though, this tends to tend itself to the car being more twitchy when on the limit. Add to this the fact its front engined unlike the Porsche & Ferrari and you begin to see why the back end could be a bit unstable in difficult conditions.
Because the Aston Martin LMP1 car (AMR-ONE) was an abject failure and only completed a combined 12 laps between both cars. One tub was purchased and became the DeltaWing, the other tub was purchased by Henri Pescarolo and run at Le Mans in 2012 with a Judd V10.
FPV was half owned by Prodrive (51%) until they pulled out recently. They were the ones who did most of the development on the supercharged 5L I believe :)
As a point of reference, a full season arrive & drive program in a Ginetta G55 supporting British GT is ~$50,000 GBP. A recent interview with Starworks on Radio Le Mans put the per event cost of Grand-AM & WEC at ~$150,000 per event for a DP or LMP2. This is not even considering all the licensing & track time to obtain the necessary experience. GT3 is likely to be a similar cost for Blancpain, GTOpen or a similar series.
would someone please for the love of god get a person who knows how to interview people .................. and did he say after 3 years they refresh the race cars ..... so can i have a old one ............ ha .
anti-intrusion bars? the 2 equally spaced bars that run vertically from roof to cowl on the inside of the windshield, they help distribute load across the windshield/sheetmetal in any instance where a very heavy object might strike the windshield at very high speed(say, a worst case scenario incident at daytona where a loose tire from a wrecked/damaged car may strike the windshield of one of these astons going 100+MPH).
-> I have a feeling that this Prodrive episode NEEDS a part 2. But this time Chris Harris NEEDS to do a double header. Driving that epic P2 and that Aussie Ford Falcon BOSS in UK roads and see how he thinks about it! Since that Falcon is one of the very few available in the UK!
An interesting topic to address for another episode is...Why doesn't Grand Am fall in line with FIA Regulations and Specifications? Especially in the case of GT Racing, it seems practical have one roll-cage for GrandAm and another for FIA events. Uniformity across the different racing series seems like a way to reduce costs for teams that want to participate in more than one series.
When he said the Regulations mean they can't use a lot of the high end developments / materials I wish you'd asked what they miss using vs what they're glad to be rid of.
I've noted all of JF's lines on the shop tour: Okay. Okay. Mhh. Okay. Okay. Interesting. Mhh. Right. Ready to go. Really? Yeah. Okay. Oh yeah, we've talked about that. Got it. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Are you doing your own CFD work? Got it. Cool. Okay. Okay. Okay. Got it. Mhh. Okay. Got it. |||| This is enraging! Why don't you prepare?? He is probably one of the smarter guys there, and you only ask him one question? CFD? Really? Okay. Cool. Got it.
And a Le Mans spec 458 GT2 weighs 250kgs less than the 458 (my google-fu is strong too) . But if you think finding a quarter of a ton weight savings is massive fail then I await the debut of your "Frederiksen" brand where you show how it's done :)
These are the kind of videos that make Drive unique.
Thx for this.
Prodrive is one of my all time favorite engineering companies, Thank you for shooting this!
Another great piece this week. Keep them comin!
Thank you drive central! Got to love Aston Martin and prodrive
I love these behind the scenes type videos
This is one beautiful piece of automotive journalism.

Great to have you back JF!

Very Neat video... Thanks for producing an amazing show, JF.
RIP my fellow Dane, Allan Simonsen
This was awesome!

Great to see some of the Drive team over here in the UK! Great video!

Excellent interview, and I've finally seen an Aston I want.

Beautifully shot, again. Big fan of your Koenigsegg series.
Very nice video :) Keep it up!
Drive is putting out some hight quality content these days. Keep up the good work!
Awesome, just awesome! MORE!! Love that in all those amazing cars they had the Austalian Ford Falcon GT!! haha
Wow they have some amazing motorsport heritage in there!
nice car ,great video always :D
wow amazing video! Great work Drive!
Just makes you wonder... where does all that funding come from! all those people and cars etc.!
Hnngh, I want to be standing in that showroom so badly. So much automotive history in in one room!
Thanks drive!
A space chassis? Is that what is used to span large areas with few interior supports?
What brand jackstands are in use in this video?
Very good music all through this video.
I've been there myself, and managed to blag myself an opportunity to sit in the Le Mans-winning DBR9. It's an amazing place to visit. :)
That Gulf LMP car in the back, ohh sexy. Pretty much anything with gulf colors are great!
RIP Allan Simonsen. Good on prodrive for racing to win it for him.
I agree 100%. Thank you for all the effort you put into making the series, but all the "Got it's" and "OK"s in the interview are quite unloquacious.
I have done work with them for years. I have a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt converted to ADR through them.
This one was acctually pretty good :)
Love it.
Would have been nice to have seen them go into the paint shop and see the carbon kits being made
Too short! But thanks. Fantastic. I think I was among those who made a comment with suggestion to visit Prodrive like a year ago.
Why no mention of the Falcon GT in the garage??
anyone knows the name of the song from the beginning?
Nice background music on this one! Can you tell me what it is?
Cheerz JF, pretty jealous right now !
Although I'm not a Ford guy, it was cool to see an FPV in their garage!
What is it that J.F. Musial says at 04:27, that I can't understand? It sounds like RX-7 or something. Can someone help me out?
So can you bring a stock Aston to ProDrive, ask them to install racing suspension, brakes, and rollcage, would they do it? I think an Aston with racing bits on the street is a thing of dreams to me.
Seeing videos like this just make me want to modify my car even more.
Interesting - thanks

The RX-8 Grand Am car was a space chassis with a RX-8 body on it and J.F was asking whether it was the same with the Astons
Where was the race???????
FPV was half owned by Prodrive (51%) until they pulled out recently. They were the ones who did most of the development on the supercharged 5L I believe :)
Is that Kinks reference?
Oh, I see. Thank you for the explanation :)

I'd love to work there.
Fucking sweet. Keep making more videos like this drive fuck yeah!!
The music used in this video is sublime. Does anyone recognize it?
My heart sinks every time I see the link for this video. A team favored to win in both classes but finishes in tragedy.
What would it take to get a job for a race team like this?
They just got the pole in GTP Class, P1-2
whar is are anti-extrusion bars?
anti-intrusion bars? the 2 equally spaced bars that run vertically from roof to cowl on the inside of the windshield, they help distribute load across the windshield/sheetmetal in any instance where a very heavy object might strike the windshield at very high speed(say, a worst case scenario incident at daytona where a loose tire from a wrecked/damaged car may strike the windshield of one of these astons going 100+MPH).
those aston martins are super fast for the lemans test session....lets see their longevity

what happens to the engine after 5000km ????
Rebuild?
Nothing on the FPV :(
Joffry Baratheon at 5:57 I didn't know he worked for Prodrive.
What about the prototype !! :P
yessss
When he said the Regulations mean they can't use a lot of the high end developments / materials I wish you'd asked what they miss using vs what they're glad to be rid of.
Sorry space frame chassis which is a tubular steel chassis like you get of sport prototypes before they started using carbon tubs
Cleanest garage ever?
Why did u not show us the LMP1 Car! But good video other than that
The interviewer only says "cool" "ok" and "got it" xD
should have got him to speak about the FPV GT 335
Ali G in tha hooouuuse
so weird to see a drive video with no comments
Tell me how you work surrounded by Aston Martins on a daily basis...
Interviewer didn't ask questions or they were cut
yea, it felt like a high school field trip interview lol... cars were cool tho
Why did you not talk about the Lola
"light weighting"... interesting choice of verb
why, with all the metal in that room, why does my stupid mind keeps wanting more info on the Contour / Mondeo SVT racer, god I feel stupid.

watch topgear uk. they had it on years ago
He did explain that unlike the competition (Ferrari), that starts out as a sports car, these are GT cars...
Great video; high tear level multimillion $ race organization. Feel very poor with my garage, should just buy from these guys direct
Also, at 8:26 (with CC) thank you for not using a damn apostrophe to mark the plural form of DBRS9! Apostrophes don't show pluralization!
His questions were being answered all throughout the episode, they were just edited out.
RIP Allan.. :(
yeah...unique in the UK though
RIP Allan Simonsen
Street legal GT4? Yes please!
