      I doubt they will. It would be ratings sucide, unfortunately most people who were Top Gear fanatics and watched for Clarkeson and co (the ones who make themselves pretty obvious in comments sections) know and care nothing about motorsports, the scripted challenges and basic drag races get too many eyeballs on the TV for them.

      ***** Any death in motorsport is a tragedy, regardless if its a driver or spectator. I'm all for safety and better barriers but the spectator that was killed by the GTR during the VLN race were in an area not protected by the barriers. Ignorance is bliss till it bites you in the ass...

    • @teamboehnisch2854
      @teamboehnisch2854 8 років тому +2

      David Gonzalez there were barriers. The problem was that the GT-R flew over the barriers and the fence! Very bad luck in this case..

    • @davidgonzalez4665
      @davidgonzalez4665 8 років тому +1

      TeamBoehnisch Yes there were and they are there for a reason. The spectator that got killed was in an area he shouldn't have been in. If i remember correctly they had been told to move and get back behind the barriers but refused. If thats the case I maintain my previous statement.

    • @teamboehnisch2854
      @teamboehnisch2854 8 років тому +12

      David Gonzalez Absolutely. I am the same opinion that - because that part is a High-Speed part (!) - it is absolutely the wrong place to watch. And moreover the one who was killed (R.I.P. our motorsports-friend), sat directly in the line where the cars would go if they don't get the corner - so he wanted to have the best view on a crash. He had.

      PS: the US one is shit

    • @BTrain-jw3uk
      @BTrain-jw3uk 9 років тому +4

      351broncoii The core of Top Gear's success, and the reason that it will be successful among its core demo post-reboot, is that it was a fun show about cars. They now have an opportunity to go back to being a show about cars as opposed to being a show about May, Clarkson, and Hammond with some cars tossed in for flavor.
      I probably won't follow them to their new show precisely for the reason you're stating. Their new show will probably pick up where Top Gear left off, which is to say in a bad place, because that's what their following wants to see. Their characters became bigger than the cars they were driving and the show became predictable. CHOC is where Top Gear was and should have stayed.

    • @351broncoii
      @351broncoii 9 років тому +1

      BTrain5489 To me, at least they made Top Gear. I've watched Fifth Gear as well as other car shows and well they're good. There much of the same, a lot of facts and figures, same boring road testing but no personality.
      For me, Top Gear is not just the best car show ever but my favourite show period. Because it combines two of my favourite things cars and British comedy. Specifically their brand of comedy and the chemistry between them.
      I've heard a lot of non car people say they watch it. Not because they're into cars but because. But because despite the subject matter they found the show funny. To me, that's a mark of true greatness when you can get non car people to watch a car show

    Chris Harris on Cars If this is judged by others as luridly sycophantic in the end, I could not possibly care less.
    When you posted your Bloodhound SSC video a while ago, I was awestruck. The joy of being so utterly immersed in the experience and yet never pandered to. Never - as we would say in the US - "dumbed down."
    Thank you for holding true to that core value.
    Of the thousands of racing films -- on the smallest and largest screens alike -- this one retains that same brilliance, and the same inherent honesty as Bloodhound. And throughout, the luscious, totally mesmerizing cinematography... is truly without peer.

I have no doubt that Neil was planning to get some decent in car footage as the morning light rose

    • @panzerfaulst12345
      @panzerfaulst12345 9 років тому +5

      Samzilla Thats because this is REAL racing. The primary here for chris was to win the race, not film for a show. Its hard to get usable in-cabin footage. Its loud, hard to focus, and hard to stabilize without a lot of heavy equipment. Sorry he wasnt thinking of us when he rolled the car onto the ring... He did quite well regardless.

      Though certainly not a popular decision with many, I can't blame the organizers for doing so. Earlier this year at the same circuit a Nissan flipped at the crest of Flugplatz, then cartwheeled and completely cleared the barrier and fence, and killed a spectator before finally coming to rest in the spectator area. The organizers had to be seen as doing something quickly about this latest incident or the race would have been called off.

      Michael Renardson Apart from me not agreeing, when spectators die something has to be done. Sad enough for drivers, but at least they knew what they were getting into.

      grmasdfII okay fair play maybe them doing something shows their respect if something bad like that happens

    • @grmasdfII
      @grmasdfII 9 років тому

      Michael Renardson Yes, at least until something better is figured out, like major rebuilds/enhancements of the safety-installations. That's not going to be easy, though, since the Ring has been on the verge of bankruptcy for several years now and it's going to be difficult to find the funding.

    What a brilliant video! Shame you guys didn't manage to bring it home. I love these race videos nearly as much if not more than the car reviews :P The shot of that Porsche screaming down the hill was immense. Well done Neil I can only imagine it's a very hard place to film to try and capture varying shots with it being such a big place!

  • @WiseGuy02
    @WiseGuy02 9 років тому +29

    Who the hell is the safety nutsy imposing speed limits on the Nurburgring for a race? Is there new management? They also imposed speed limits for track days. So now the manufactures can't test their cars to the limits. I guess they'll have to look for another track.

      WiseGuy02 A spectator was killed earlier this year when a Nissan GTR lifted off at Flugplatz.

    • @AccAkut1987
      @AccAkut1987 9 років тому +19

      WiseGuy02 manufacturers can till test without limits, as the legalities are different for them.
      As Chris told, after the Nismo GTR becoming airborne at Flugplatz (and killing one spectator) and a number of "strange" GT3 crashes during last years 24h and numerous VLN races on the Döttinger Höhe, the German racing governing body (DMSB) was urged to do something, anything, until the real reason is sure for those cars flipping. It was imposing these speed limits or no race at all.
      There will be changes for next year, currently a Ring-special GT3 aero pack is the most likely. Manufacturers of course don't want this as it raises costs, but its a better solution than changing, sanitizing the track. Even just enlarging the gravel trap at Flugplatz is not easy due to German nature conservation laws.

      AccAkut1987 Actually Capricorn Group has officially banned manufacturers from running or publishing lap times from the Nurburgring Nordschliefe. This was discovered when Koeingsegg attempted to run their One:1 hypercar around the ‘Ring and got rebuffed.

    • @ishaanbhardwaj8992
      @ishaanbhardwaj8992 9 років тому

      AccAkut1987 It will probably need to be more than just aero. Suspension, anti-roll bars, or even resurfacing some areas of the track.

    • @juffurey
      @juffurey 9 років тому +8

      AccAkut1987 best solution would be to better protect the spectators ... not allow them so close. speed limits just seems asinine.

      Matt Jenkins Why don't you go tell that to the family of the spectator (not driver) who was killed there a few weeks earlier.
      C'mon, Man. Show some respect, not everything has to be what you want. Just because you have a thought, and there's a comment section, doesn't mean you should post it.

    • @richardharrold9736

      Luke Sluder The fatality was at Flugplatz. The problem is the GT3 cars and putting spectators in dangerous spots, not the track itself.
