    JF, you've turned into a full-fledged host. You often came across as a bit of an awkward duckling in the past. But now, not only are you seemingly more confident, you've become quite the likeable video personality.
    I love these factory visits. Please keep it up!

    Excellent! Peterhansel and Roma are legends of Rally Raid, it was enjoyable to hear them speak about the discipline they so enjoy. Good editing, music and quality interviews as others have also noted. Hearing it from the experts is far better than hearing it from the presenter. Great work, looking forward to future episodes.

    Great video. I love these factory tours and the fact that you just let the experts speak. It is so educational. Only complaint is I could have used some subtitles. I had a hard time understanding the driver in the last few minutes of the video because of his accent and driving noise.

Check out a guy called Jan de Roy and his twin engined DAF 3600ATI Dakar raid truck. That thing passed me on a motorway in France doing about 110 mph!! It is a monster!

    The driver of the ride-along is Spaniard Joan "Nani" Roma. He's from the countryside and he has raced a ton of French-organized raids during his career. Also, he used to have a French co-driver. I guess that makes for a funny English accent
    The other driver is Stephane Peterhansel AKA "Monseiur Dakar". He is French

    All X-raid cars have all those spare parts. You never know what will happen. If you get seriously damaged, the assistance truck may need up to 3h to get to you. You cannot loose that much time so you need to be able to repair it by yourself. Also, these cross-country raids are considered "adventure races" so you MUST have basic supplies to survive around 48h easily on your own

    Wow.... I just learned so much about cross-country racing that i didn't originally know. mind.blown. How would someone get into this sort of racing? I can imagine skills from rally would transfer over with similar driving styles but it seems like that's just the tip of the iceberg with so many different terrains amongst everything else. It just seems like so much to learn.

  • @DiegoRuiz1991
    @DiegoRuiz1991 11 років тому

    The cost of the events vary A LOT. Most European countries have National cross-country championships with 1-day and 2-day races. If you want to know more about car preparation, check the FIA cross-country rally rulebook for the T2 class (it's a bit like the Gr.N from rallying)

  • @ohgodlemmein

    Just because you seem to not understand metric measurements.
    The maximum wheel base in Dakar is 2m90 which equates to 114.17 inches.
    For your reference a Ford F150 6.5' Regular Cab has a wheel base of 125.9 inches or 3m19.
    These are trucks and they are limited by what the regulations impose.

    2WD cars are allowed to have a much longer suspension travel. It's like a balance: with AWD you get much better traction but with 2WD you can have better suspension and auto-inflatable tires

    I thought that xraid used a custom diesel engine, but finding out that they use the BMW 3L i6 is impressive as heck. I always knew BMW made the best diesels but now from "holy" they acended to "divine" in my eyes.

    • @MudhaffarAdhwa
      @MudhaffarAdhwa 2 роки тому

      Yeah most of the teams use production engines. Xraid uses BMW engines, Toyota uses the TT V6 found in the land cruiser (some use Lexus V8s), Prodrive use Ford EcoBoosts etc.

    yeah i know my point was that yes the title is misleading but not technically incorrect, like i said they probably simply meant the car is capable of that, not that they were going to do so in the video

  • @DMStraylight
    @DMStraylight 11 років тому

    FIA mandates a minimum driving range of 800 km on the cars, to build in some margin of error. This Mini's fuel cell is "not quite" 400 L, which is at least good for that much, if not more.
    Considering these things carry enough spare parts to just about build a second car, I don't expect this is some WRC featherweight (the Dakar Car class is anything up to 3500 kg). Between that and the conditions they drive in, that sounds like decent fuel consumption to me.

    250mm is 10" which isn't all that bad. I'm guessing thats like an inherent safety feature, keeping the driving from pushing to hard for days in a row. compared to something like trophy trucks with feet of travel nearly flying across similar terrain

  • @AaronSmith561

    No Minis are cars. But these trucks that look like Minis are trucks.

  • @brimstonehd
    @brimstonehd 11 років тому

    In the Dakar the Mini's race in the car category. The Dakar race trucks are much much larger. 10 tonne. Think MAN, Kamaz and Tatra.
