Never even knew this was a thing, It sounds amazing
Best engine sound ever! Ultimate Impreza!
what a shame this car never went into production :(
@Tanner Vaughn you know that this is a 6 year old comment right
Still sad this didnt come to market. They deffo need to make a supercar
@@saadabdullah4245 yeah
Just like marcos tso on season 7
@@NICKCAMP04 yes
2:00 I was expecting for James to proceed whit explaining what anti-lag is!
"The very famous..." (I dig this pause) "... Prodrive!"
"It weighs about as much as a human hair, it goes like one too!" Hell yeah!
"Relative speed..." Brilliant expression from Jeremy!
This car is stunning~ What a shame it won't go into production :(
"What car do you have?"
"I have a squirrel mincer that makes me vomit."
☺
This thing looks like early models of the Cadillac CTS-V (~2010?) sedan from the front. It's got those parallelogram headlights, standard mesh grid grill, and similar proportions on the entire front end.
On a completely different note, that sound when you ;et off the throttle is fucking amazing! Really wish that with all the turbo-ing going on in the car industry these days that more manufacturers would do something fun like this to their turbo spool discharge/release noise. I guess it would be an expensive thing to develop for what would inevitably an annoyance to most people, and therefore not very good return on the investment.
Am I the only one that looks at this and sees an Audi R8 that's had the nose and tail smooshed in?
Or rather, when looking at the R8, seeing a P2 that's had the roof smooshed down so that the whole car's splayed out?
There is absolutely some R8 influence here. I like it.
That was the first thing I thought of too. A 3/4 R8. I like it too 👌
The R8's design 'leans forward' a lot and I severely dislike it as a result. This P2 here looks far more balanced, even with all the weird air scoops. But there's some similarity, yeah.
Idk about you but it's more like a compact version of Cadillac CTS-V to me than the R8....
It's not just you, haha
@jfroskate02 anti-lag are the small explosions/bangs you hear when he lets of the gas. They are ment to keep the turbo spinning and thus keep the boost pressure up even when no throttle is being applied. Basicly all rally cars are equiped with this but since the wear on the turbo is immense no production cars usualy have it.
Sad they completely skipped over/derided the technical aspects of the car, which was the reason Prodrive lent them the P2 in the first place. The boss vowed to never lend them another car after this.
It's an entertainment show, explaining the technical aspect anymore than he did (saying it has anti-lag and a clever diff) would just be boring for most viewers.
It’s not like they made another one 💀
Well would you rather listen to an engineer ramble on or would you rather watch JC do a practical test to prove it works and demonstrate the prowess of the car?
Clarkson: This is a fantastic car
Prodrive: How dare you!
That lap time is insane. 1 24.3 from only 345 bhp, and it's not exactly lightweight either.
TopGear's video team continues to amaze me. Superb videos like no other.
@casseebest actually anti lag work by making the fuel mix richer and sending it through the exhaust where it ignites on contact with the hot exhaust pipes, which then goes to the turbo keeping its RPM in a usable range to create no lag.
impreza motors are always awesome :-)
The EJ series is amazing
Since when did the track have a line of flagpoles on the side?
Airport circuit
Floodlights
£40K ! I was expecting £140K..
Too bad it's not gonna go in production, it seemed really nice.
Why did I never see this before?!
I was sure he was gonna say "Not only can it blow your mind - it can blow your chunks."
That is the best use of a turbo yet, not dumping all the built up boost in one go!! I'm glad some is making use of the available technology, we have had this stuff ( gyro sensors, roll, pitch & yaw sensors, accelerometers..... etc etc....) for many years in aircraft, it's time to put it into our autos!!!
"its dirty" Haha :D Love the squirrel sound xD Great test ^^
I can't believe they used a Death From Above song in the car demo, I love this show so much
ive seen this car before online about 2 years ago its insane antilag is awesome. wish they would acutally produce this car.
One of my fave ever Top Gear segments and one of my fave ever cars. Such, such, SUCH a shame that Prodrive elected not to put it into production.
Why didn't they bring this amazing machine to production?! It's incredible! I read an article that claimed it "wasn't pretty", maybe not, but it looks really cool. Well, everything but the grill looks really cool.
just love that boxer sound, cant get enough of it! =)
Fun fact: Ford actually started as a racing company, sort of. Henry Ford tried to establish another auto firm before the Ford Motor Co. we have today.
In an overly simplified summary, Ford entered the 1901 “Sweepstakes” and beat the well established Alexander Winton. The publicity this victory brought convinced investors to completely back and support Henry’s second attempt at a car firm, which would become the modern Ford Motor Co.
@caio20v its a dose basically no blow off valve when you lift of the throttle the air hits a wall goes back wards spins the turbo the other way and make that sound. it's know technically as a compression surge.
I remember seeing pictures of this car a couple years or so ago, how old is this episode?
Anti-lag - Basically when the turbo is off boost, because the engines at low RPM, the ECU allows car to run rich, causing fuel to ignite in the exhaust manifold. This keeps the turbo spinning even at low revs.
ATD is basically Active Yaw Control which is also found in Evos and that noise isn't the wastegate, it's compressor surge and it's bad for your turbo.
"Animal and machine in perfect harmony?" 笑
@Pitttdog dont forget the differential with all those settings!
"That's what it is a squirrel mincer." Loved that part.
this was the first episode of Top Gear with the trio that I ever saw.
Hey guys!! Whats the name of the song that starts at 0:34- and keeps going.????
The ATD explanation was actually pretty simple to understand...sounded like AYC on an EVO.
@iThoughtOfaUsername turbo lag is where the turbo is spooking up enough to be effective..so an als system is one that minimizes that lag time
what is the song called at like 35 seconds in the video?
What that's not anti lag...Anti lag is where you adjust the ignition timing and keep the turbos spooled at low speed (like around corners or from a dig) so you can engage it when you need the power either off the line, in a rolling race or to regain speed coming out of a corner.
@qwikyking yeah i think its when they tune the turbo to work way b4 3k-3.5k rpm
Good thing to know the stig is compatible with the P2's computer :)
Does anyone know, whats the name of the song is 0:33 ????? PLZ
4:30 sounds like the mafia 2 throwup sound 😂
Lol was that Rosetta stone or something when the stig was driving?
Of all the years that Jeremy Claarkson has been driving turbocharged cars and still insists that the surging "squirrel sound" from the compressor wheel is the "waste gate", couldn't be more wrong. It is the blow off valve, the waste gate is to control your boost pressure. I have heard him refer to "waste gate" too many times in previous episodes.
squirels being pushed into the engine is another term for compression surge?
@jfroskate02 What Buffynajtor is correct. Any car where constant boost is wanted, 2 step launch control is there. Plus im pretty sure Porsches use Sequential turbo systems don't they?
@MrMrShobear
I was wondering if this has a WRX chassis underneath? I mean it would save a lot to use that chassis that u can just use the same engine. The only cost would be making brand new panels and interior fittings. Still cost a lot. My point is why Subaru never made such a thing but Prodrive which only mods WRX for races does. Strange world this is.
Does anyone know what the name of the song is that starts at 0:33?
0:30 what is that song please?
If Prodrive plans to put the P2 in production, let's hope there's a sick bag as standard equipment. It's circles around so fast and tight!
That’s what she said.
@JTshoot i think its the Koenigsegg CCXR and the other long one its the same but its the CCX, if im not right please correct me.
What a pity this car never came to production!
Its a shame it didnt get in production. It was an amazing piece of enginiering
Wouldn't be such fast without Impreza engine! But I still love it!
Will it be for sale in America?
Also by Anti-lag if it means 2-step launch control. Then its simply constant boosting =]
i would love a traditional mini with a 1.6 turbo and 4wd!
the wastegate sound is awesome!
the subaru boxer engine (both standard and tuned) sounds like a rally saab v4 in my opinion
@MattTrecartin Doesn't the nissan gtr already have that technology?
@Gigdoat UA-cam uses a different tracker for 300+ views.
So new videos will usually see a view count cap at around 300. Then the other system will update the true viewcount later.
I see
@MeeGra123 "Break" refers to the horsepower at the breaks. It's one of the 3 most commons ways to measure power. The other two beeing Rhp and kw. The reason why you have bhp and rhp is that you "loose" some horsepower in the energy transfere frm the engine, to the actuall wheels. So that's why (if Im not mistaken) rhp is what your engine produces and bhp is what your car actually does on the road. Hope it helps x)
Break is when they test the engine on a stand and apply a braking force to it. The alternative is wheel horsepower which is measured at the axle, or more commonly at the wheels. This is with the engine in the car with all drivetrain components sapping some power.
Edit: i just saw this was from 11 years ago. I hope you have a bit more knowledge now ;)
Would anybody tell me whats the "break" in bhp?
I cant translate it but I would like to know :-)
Is it BOV flutter or compression surge?
is that guy from prodrive the previous head of the subaru world rally team?
What episode is this from? I don't remember it.
the sound u get when u step off the gas is the blow off valve.
Looks like a MG X-Power SV from the rear?
BEAST!! I cant believe they were playing a Missy Elliot beat
That is one of the coolest, most amazing cars in history. Imagine how amazing would it be to own a P2 with a EXE-TC safari suspension! Perfect car for Baja!
@SpeedFreakNO
do you know the song name?
I'm very familiar with Anti-Lag.. But once in a while top gear will put a basic car out with Carkson or the Stig on a track a without Anti-Lag installed and flames would shoot out the back like a butane lighter!!
looks awesome and futuristic :D
@TheFenerli10 always nice to dream. There's plenty of other people who give very thorough and factual reviews about ordinary cars.
can it PLEASE come state side?? this thing is incredible...
ok what is the name of the music at 00:34
what episode was this in?
this vehicle is amazing. i wonder if they will bring it to the north american markets.
I have actually been to the pro-drive factory and got a chance to sit in this car. it's actually very boring to look at. bare insides, just grey fabric, great technology though and the representative who showed us around really didn't like Jeremy either lol. the engineers were very cool though, showed us some of the stuff they're working on like Chris meekes wrc mini :D also the Aston martin lagonda's. also I got to sit in the legendary WRC championship winning Subaru Impreza that was driven by Colin McRea. great factory.
A bit late, but better late than never! It's Partyline Honey by Faultline. I heard it here...loved it and bought the ablum.
what wass the price again?
lol 6:38 pru de cos se du pra de sema ko..... where can i find traffic lights?
hahah Jeramey's voice cracks at 0:23
@JTshoot
its a old mini cooper i think
Death from above 1979? I didn't expect that on top gear!.
The ADI seems to be a good system!
Full potential of the Impreza STi engine, unlocked.
Anti-lag drops a droplet of petrol into the turbo which keeps the turbo spinning through let's say gear changes or deceleration so there is never any lag from the turbo. The downside is that the system costs a lot and ruins the turbo.
@mydeftones hahaha, that's one wicked sound >:D
It sounds quite oldschool. I like the noise.
What's the name of this type of Turbo Valve??
I LOVE TOP GEAR !
What episode is this from?
@thetito626 hell yea man! i wish they would mention how much the cars cost in dollars though!
is it episode 7 of the 15th series? already?
i want it. a futuristic sportscar body with inteligance and acts and sounds like a rallycar
I honestly would have bought one of these if they'd been available.
Man I miss this show
Such a cool looking car.
@acidongitim a paint job and bodykit? What are you? 12 years old? however I do agree with you that it's power is very awesome
Gotta love those subaru engines!
